Building a Better Anemometer #1 - The Anemometer Body and Electronics
Просмотров 1132 месяца назад
In this video I begin on a complex project - building an anemometer for storm chasing from scratch. An anemometer is a sensor for measuring wind speed. I am replicating the style of an R.M Young brand sensor, because I like the style and It's more of a challenge to build than a simple cup and vane style sensor. R.M Young products are insanely overpriced for a simple hobbyist though, so I will b...

Hey Everyone! In this video I install and review the tried and true antenna, the 102' long whip. This is an 11 meter CB Radio antenna. Through the software you should be able to adjust the axle power in each frequency range, you just need a watt meter, also you should solder the power wires,

    • @ScuffedRadio
      @ScuffedRadio 7 дней назад

      Why would I want to adjust the output power? I want it at maximum all the time. The power wires should be soldered, I agree. But it is a work truck and I can't make anything permanent.

    • @Yippynutsmacker
      @Yippynutsmacker 5 дней назад

      @ScuffedRadio likely the power will differ between say 137mhz vs 178mhz, lots of radios do that, through the service menu you can adjust it, also you can adjust the deviation and make sure it's transmitting on frequency, other then the power you sorta need special equipment tho. I guess if you have a second radio you can adjust the deviation by ear.

    • @ScuffedRadio

      @@Yippynutsmacker I had it checked out by a commercial radio shop, they confirmed it was putting out full power on the ham bands, and the deviation is good.

For all of my setups , past and present , I run the standard length full size spring , 19 feet and 6 and 3/4 inches of coax , mount in the center of a flat surface like a truck toolbox lid , center of the trunk , etc and the SWR is usually flat in the middle of the band . 👍. What is the proper tuning procedure for this antenna? I have seen recomendations to ignore the lower section and just tune the whip and others that say the lower mast section tuning is as important as the top. What would be the correct order, is it a case of adjust one the then other over and over? Nice video. Thanks in advance. (PS That's the C pillar, A,B,C,D from the front. )

    • @ScuffedRadio
      @ScuffedRadio 2 месяца назад

      According to the included manual, you're supposed to tune the bottom section (with the top installed) for best SWR where you want it, then tune the top for best SWR. That's what I've done two times now on two installs and it's worked for me. I have a 1:1.1 SWR right where I want it. Bandwidth is a little narrow but workable.

      The 102" needs a spring because it is too short for the 11 meter band by default. The spring adds electrical legnth which brings it into tune on the desired band. The device under my mirror is a radar detector. It detects cops running speed traps so I get an alert before they can get my speed.
