    Dynema is fantastic rope. It is as you said, stronger than steel, it is also much lighter and will float. The bigest advantage, in my view, is that unlike steel it does not store energy so if it snaps under load it is less likely to flail around chopping arms and legs off or even killing anyone in its path.
    I have used it for winching for a few years now and I will not use steel ropes again. There are lots of reviews and tests on youtube so have a look. I think you will be happy to keep it.

    I scored some old Motorola repeaters at an old tower site. Temped to put up an all analog UHF Ham repeater and a GMRS repeater now. Thanks for the video!

    I live in Sardinia / Italy, and there are zero analogue repeaters here. I guess I have to put up one myself. A lot of stuff to learn.. This video is an excellent starting point 👋

    Hyteria, Motorola and Kenwood. Running all Kenwood commercial and they are just as good. Since you live in Alabama I would suggest calling up Commander Technologies and purchasing a commercial grade antenna. You'll notice even more difference on the Tx and RX.

      I have a commscope DB-224e at home that needs a little maintenance but that's what's going to replace the Hustler. Same gain figures but far more robust.

      @ScuffedRadio got a question about the cudy cell/wifi router. Who is the cell provider you were able to use and what monthly cost does it run you. This seem like the ultimate solution for remote repeater sites.

      @@stevenharvey1375 I use T-Mobile with a prepaid unlimited data plan. It's $50 monthly. The only disadvantage that it's a shared public IP address, so port forwarding does not work. A VPN has to be used to get that functionality back.

    • @stevenharvey1375
      @stevenharvey1375 4 месяца назад

      @ScuffedRadio so if you're using Echolink or Allstar they will not work without the the VPN

    • @ScuffedRadio
      @ScuffedRadio  4 месяца назад +1

      @@stevenharvey1375 they work but only making outbound connections. I have a "hub" allstar node at home that is port forwarded. My repeater is connected full time to the home hub server and that solves all the issues.

    Yup, interconnection cables are always cut to different lengths when one changes frequencies over 5 MHz on any duplexer. P25 sounds light years better than DMR.

  • @MrFreddarama

    I almost bought another Hytera repeater that was on Ebay last week but their support is now abysmal and its easier to build a repeater from scratch for less cost.

    • @ScuffedRadio

      There's definitely cheaper ways to do it. They did remove a lot of the information online about it and idk how you'd even get the software now but the hardware is so good it's almost worth it.

    Maybe it is an optical illusion, but your tower seems VERY close to the power lines running nearby. Close enough that if the tower tips over your antenna will hit the power lines. Is it really that close?

    • @ScuffedRadio
      @ScuffedRadio  4 месяца назад +3

      It is nested between a triangle of power lines. Nothing we can do about it. The whole area where the tower is is like that. I'm not the only one. I cleared it with the utility company and they gave me what was required for clearance and we maintained that.

  • @KD9ZZP

    Very curious but how much does it cost monthly to run a setup like this? (in terms of power draw and an electric bill)

    • @ScuffedRadio
      @ScuffedRadio  4 месяца назад +1

      Power costs about $35 a month currently. Somewhere around 70KWh a month on average. Now that's just power. There's always gonna be tower or land rent costs unless you own the tower and land.

    ???This is on 147.425? Isn't that in the simplex band? You are bragging about hundredths of a microvolt sensitivity difference, but you have a short tower on flat land. Around here we put them on hilltops
    On an aside, what have you done for grounding? That looks to me like lightning, incorporated.
    What are what appears to be a bunch of other overhead wires/ cables/ guys? Is this thing next to a taller tower?

    • @ScuffedRadio
      @ScuffedRadio  4 месяца назад +1

      It is on 147.425. The ARRL is not a governing body so I threw their band plan in the trash. Around here there's too many dead repeaters taking up all the pairs.
      The tower is NOT on "flat land". It is on a mountain. Coverage is fantastic, around 45-50 miles in all directions. This system even outperforms another repeater at the same height about a quarter of a mile away. The difference in hardware performance is very apparent. It's not hundredths of a microvolte, it's 0.10 microvoltes more sensitive than everyone else in the area.
      Grounding wasn't shown in the video but there are ground rods and polyphasers in use.
      The other wires you see are from power lines. I cleared the setup with the local power company inspector and he gave me the required clearances, which I am in compliance with.

    You should probably put an aircraft clearance light at the top. Planes shouldn't be a problem but drones and helicopters could be. Since it comes back down, it shouldn't be a big deal to replace the light bulb when it goes out.

    • @ScuffedRadio
      @ScuffedRadio  4 месяца назад

      I'm not required to add a light until the tower exceeds 200ft total height

    should be doing much better then .25uV my vhf quantar does .12uV. Also no need for 500w on a repeater. 100w is the sweet spot. 2.2db insert loss on the cans is pretty high should be about 1.5 1.6db. and of course like always stay away from LMR anything in duplex. heliax outside and 1/4" heliax or RG400/393 in cable. de OG free speech repeater indiana.

    • @ScuffedRadio
      @ScuffedRadio  3 месяца назад

      In reality the sensitivity *is* better, but I said the *rated* sensitivity just to be safe. There may not be a need for 500w but we do it just for fun. More is always more! And yes there is zero LMR in my system. It's M&P hyperflex. Thanks for the comment!
