This video deserves a million likes! Metalzone has its spice and makes a difference, while SD-1 and DS-1 make better what amps already have(my opinion) if you love the taste of Metalzone then you can go everywhere(with tons of mid-control)
No, the DS-1 will still have a bit of drive even with the Dist control at zero. The SD-1 will be much cleaner with the same settings. If you're getting a pedal for this purpose only and do not plan to use the Drive at all, maybe look into something like the MXR Micro Amp?
Actually this video helped a lot. I was looking for a lead boost, and thought: I have my old Metal Zone laying around somewhere would that work? Turns out... I'm definitely gonna try that.
How come I can't seem to make DS-1 kick as a boost pedal with my Revv G3 and OCD? Whatever order in the signal chain I tried, output depletes when it's on. 🧐
The DS-1 has a lot of gain on tap and it doesn’t work with all amps. I used to own a Jet City 20w head and the DS-1 was the best boost ever. With my current 50w and my old Marshall DSL15, not so much. Sounded like both distortions collided instead of blending.

Thanks so much!
Super super helpful! Thanks. Gotta buy the DS-1
DS-1 here. It does something magical to the low frequencies.
hey man is it possible to get a perfectly clean tone while DS-1 distortion is ON? if not, maybe I should've bought SD-1 overdrive for these purposes?

And remember that the Metal Zone has a powerful EQ section. Use it to your advantage!

Hey Donnie I use my metal zone as a boost for my orange crush 35rt and it sounds killer, especially with crowbar tunes🤘🤘
Well, it is what Kirk has been doing with his Randalls and eventually Crush Pro! 🤘
Excelente versus 👌🏼
too much band in the background. cant tell diff between the pedals
Try watching the whole video. You might find the part where there is no drums or bass.
I always liked the ds1 the best
Does it work well as a boost?
no pedal is best
With this particular amp, I agree!
