i have the Arlo Pro 2 cameras. When I first got them I was using just the battery power. living in New England with a cold climate, I didn't want to have to take down the cameras to charge the batteries. So now they're hard wired. Also, by having them wired I'm able to have settings without a subscription, like activity zones. As far as clip recording, I installed a usb drive onto the hub, which records all the clips until the drive gets down 20%. Then It'll just start automatically erasing older clips to make room. I love that it integrates well with homekit. I'm able to have the motion from my camera turn on an exterior light that's close by. the one thing I wish was available is the apple secure video. For now I'm happy with the Arlo cameras, but I might replace them with the secure video enabled cameras, if Arlo does not end up supporting it.
I’ve used Arlo to protect my home for years. I decided to disable it due to random recordings and battery drain. Customer service fails to respond, leaving no other option than to disable the system and look into other options. Very disappointing.
I think people complain about subscriptions because companies make great products that unless you get the service are not very useful. Compound that with the notion that my surveillance footage is my data. I bought the product, I should have full control over that data and not have to put it in the cloud. It should be stored on the hub, maybe emailed to me, or even stored on my NAS for my review. It's the notion that everyone wants their $10. Families only have so many $10 bills to go around. Otherwise, this video is great and very informative.
Great in depth review of the Arlo. I didn’t have a good HomeKit experience with the Arlos. They initially showed as being uncertified for HomeKit and I followed their instruction to remove and re-add. Problem was after I removed them they no longer showed up as available for HomeKit. I’ll likely need to restart and set-up from scratch to try and get them to show up again.
I bought mine and used for less than 6 months, moved house then left them in the box for months, I then tried to set them up and it was a nightmare, the app didn't detect them, then after 2 days it all of a sudden connected, but not for long. They are basically useless, they've recorded a few times after turning them on and off over and over, but I may as well throw them away. Cost me over a thousand for around 22 weeks use. As for a 6 month battery, that is false, I had to take mine down 5 times a week to charge them

Hey Eric - thanks for the excellent review. One area you briefly touch on which has been a major reason I'm shopping for a new camera system, is Ring's hard cap on view length of 30-seconds. I've got Ring cameras around the house right now, and there is no way to extend them past a 30-second recording window from when they first detect motion. I've got a larger yard that generally takes more than 30 seconds to traverse, so by the time a delivery person (or trespasser) gets to the door, the Ring camera has stopped recording. Ideally I'd want a video recording system that would just continuously record so long as there's motion, and not arbitrarily cut off, or at least have this configurable. Have you found a difference on this when testing Arlo vs Eufy & other camera systems? It's not a part of the feature set that's discussed on virtually any review, but in my use case it's a frustrating dealbreaker for Ring.
I would look at Arlo's continuous recording. I don't use it because I don't need it but it sounds like it would do the trick. The other option to consider is Nest. You could integrate it with HomeKit via Starling Home Hub, and most Nest Aware subscriptions come with continuous recording accessing footage in their app. I use that on my Nest Hello. It can make it slightly harder to get to the actual events compared to clips, but overall it's better. Scrolling through the Nest app seeing a time lapse of my front door is really cool too.
@@EricWelander thanks for taking the time for the detailed reply. I do love the Eufy idea of having all of the storage local as opposed to relying on continuous upload to the cloud. On your Eufy setup, what's the minimum you can set the re-trigger interval? It would seem that so long as you could ratchet that down to 2-5 seconds, you could catch not only use cases like someone walking across the yard, but also someone loitering and window-casing before acting & attempting entry. 30 seconds with a 5-minute re-trigger just leaves a ridiculous security hole for anyone with the basest idea of how Ring cams work.
Was looking for a battery powered indoor or outdoor camera and decided to get the Armorax battery cameras. Couldn’t have made a better decision. Long lasting battery, easy set up and each camera comes with its own wifi base station and they don’t even charge you for it

I think the Arlo Ultra is the only base station and camera that supports 5GHz. As far as speed of streaming, getting the hub connected to your network on hard wired Ethernet is key...either to your main router or the back of a mesh access point. After that, it’s probably down to your internet upload speed and ping latency.

Most cameras should help including this one. The only issue you might care about more than most people is getting a good angle where you can see license plates. Any 2K camera like this Arlo Pro 3 is probably good enough for that but it depends on the location, distance from vehicles, the vehicles themselves, and the lighting.

in 6:48 you say "yes you can use their cameras without a subscription" that's not exactly true.. you can look at who is at your door, or in your yard.. but it does not record not even 1 video unless you pay the $9.99 per month, without that you literally only have a way to see who is at that very moment in your yard or on your porch.. the camera is virtually useless without recording.. also I would have not bought it if I had known the camera 100% stops recording after its 3 months are up.. I have other cameras from other brands and their subscription system works on "you pay extra to use extra features" Arlo's is "you pay to use the camera, or then you can just throw the camera away" and my other cameras are high def and cost 1/3rd the price of the Arlo system I bought wasting money... sorry if that annoys you to hear(odd you'd care that your viewers find something upsetting since not all of us are on the same budget as you) anyway I suggest to anyone wanting to use a security camera to just not buy this, unless you plan to pay $9.99 per month for the basic subscription... if you can't afford another subscription the camera is literally a pretty deterrent to people trespassing because they will fear you have a real security camera(which you might if you pay but if not you won't have one..) you'd think my $400 was enough to at least be able to have 1 or 2 day video storage which then deletes... again I am so sorry for upsetting you by talking about Arlo bad... but people need to realize it doesn't work if you don't pay.. doesn't at all give you any security
I was using one of these with the magnet mount and it worked great until some guy climbed my fence, approached it from the blindside and took the it away.
BUYER BEWARE!!: Arlo and most products like Ring have a major flaw on IOS systems. You only get one notification when a sensor is triggered with no repeat options or sound customization which means you will miss/sleep through these most of the time - absolutely unacceptable for an alarm system. Thousands of users have complained about this on the Arlo forum for years to no effect. I have and Arlo system which I will replace as soon as a proper product is available on IOS
Just got a couple of Armorax battery powered cameras, one for my front porch, the other for my daughter’s room. Couldn’t be happier. Great battery life and so easy to install
Thanks for the great video! Have a question that's really bothering me. The strata council of where I live would like to use Arlo Pro 3 for monitoring the activities around the entrance of the building, is there a way to turn off the App Notification so everyone who has the app won't get ping every time someone comes in or out of the building? The purpose of using Arlo is not to catch someone in action, but rather use it for evidence after someone breaks in

Good review! Could you upload a video using the two way audio and the siren? I’m not sure what to get between this or ring, I know ring is loud enough but not sure about arlo
So this only works on an Apple system not Android?
No it works with Android as well. I'm just focused on the Apple side of it.
Does it have facial recognition?
No
Does it work with android phone ?
Duh
Thanks for the great information. Much of this video should be contained in an official product video from Arlo. The instructions of connecting your SmartHub and cameras, then you are on your own blows. Arlo needs to make much more information available regarding the product's usage.
Agreed. I had to do my own search for the PDF of instructions.
great review Eric , im now awaiting delivery of my Pro 3 and also Pro 3 floodlight Camera , iv had Arlo since its inception so im very biast as regards to security camera and now floodlights.
Thanks for the this in depth video. It answered many questions I had about this system. It’s now on the way from Best Buy with same day delivery.
I subscribed so I can learn about other HomeKit products you review.
That’s great! Thanks! Have fun setting up your new cameras
Such amazing details! Thank you. I definitely want to purchase it now for my Ranch in Mexico. Does anyone know if I would be able to install them in Mexico and be able to see what's going on while I'm in the USA?
I don’t see why not...as long as you have an internet connection active in Mexico and pay for Arlo Smart
Can you use droid phone not apple?
Was Arlo acquired by any big companies like Google or Amazon?
Jason Ong Arlo is owned by Netgear.
Marc Kamo oh, thanks!
Thanks for the review, how is the two-way audio? I have the Arlo 2 installed at my mom's house but the two-way audio is barely audible from the camera speaker. I heard they improved the speaker with Arlo 3 is that true?
Sunday’s civic didn’t forbid corny habit you’d incur juicy hence isn’t into giving goo go guy cushy Sunday gents did dit’s bitch fick you diadhdhryehhf disco chic flats disco cloth hobo
We got some of these cams and they are way too sensitive. Everything sets them off. We tried everything and nothing worked.
I'm so sorry to hear that! It can be tricky to get the settings dialed in just right for motion detection.
in 6:48 you say "yes you can use their cameras without a subscription" that's not exactly true.. you can look at who is at your door, or in your yard.. but it does not record not even 1 video unless you pay the $9.99 per month, without that you literally only have a way to see who is at that very moment in your yard or on your porch.. the camera is virtually useless without recording.. also I would have not bought it if I had known the camera 100% stops recording after its 3 months are up..
Nicely done. Great overview. Thinking of buying one. Great deal....
Battery is expensive and I have to change them too often. Do not fully record- record part and the rest freeze. Live shows with delay.
Couldn’t you just use the homekit video storage?
Good question...That requires support from the camera vendor like Arlo.
Hey great video thanks for uploading!!!... What is the max capacity of USB you can use in the Arlo hub to store video?
Unfortunately it's relying on FAT32 for a file system for that, so there's a 2TB limit
Eric Welander thanks for the reply. Not horrible. Good for gathering vital clips. Thanks again, live the videos!
Clearly endorsed by the company
Nice video im thinking of buying this camera system 🤔
Thanks for the great video! Have a question that's really bothering me. The strata council of where I live would like to use Arlo Pro 3 for monitoring the activities around the entrance of the building, is there a way to turn off the App Notification so everyone who has the app won't get ping every time someone comes in or out of the building? The purpose of using Arlo is not to catch someone in action, but rather use it for evidence after someone breaks in
Solid review. For some reason you remind me of Woody Harrelson! Lol
A subscription to their service is required once the smart trial ends. There is no 7 day storage like the older versions.
So it’s a required subscription?
Are you related to Tim Cook?
Eufy or Arlo?
That’s my question also.
Butternut Squash? Yes Please!
All in with HomeKit.
Awesome video!!!!
Nice system but battery life has been horrible, I've adjusted zone for movement several times.
I find the Armorax battery powered cameras better than the Arlo, Blink and Reolink. In fact compared to almost any other battery camera on the market the Armorax cameras outshine them when it comes to the important things: battery life, easy of install, video quality and connection quality!!
