So when you build them on the rims you are talking about front tires only and don’t put nylocks on them? Or take them back off to put the nuts on? Also where can I get these same studs and nut? I only used the short 1/2” mole kutters, woodys gold pros and super trac studs that only go in my lugs. Thanks

We always use nuts on the back side of the studs. With the front tires in the video we put them on the rim with a bit of air to see how the tread pattern was going to look, Then we took it off the rim and placed nuts onto the back side of the studs. marcelfournier.ca and splashndirt.ca sells the studs. There is a bunch to choose from. A long time ago I remember using screws in my dirt bike tire. Whatever gets you out riding works. Hope this helps.

Hi Jay. Many guys use Bighorn tires, or tires with a similar pattern. The bar type tread holds up really well to the additional weight that SXS's have. Also, these machines typically see more studs in the tires to account for the additional weight and power.
We haven't raced any SXS's so we only know what we have seen with others, but if you pose the question on the Canadian Ice Racers FB page, there are guys who can help you out for sure with first hand information.

I suppose you really only have to worry about splitting a lug if you ride really aggressively with them right? Tons of tire spinning, etc.

The thing is you really don't get a whole lot of tire spin, because a studded tire really hooks up. Riding on ice with a properly built tire is like riding on concrete. The tire will definitely last longer if you aren't trying to intentionally spin them or riding aggressively but if the stud placement is not ideal they will still snap off or crack the lug. The stud after all is still trying to move the weight of a quad and a rider no matter how much load you're placing on it.
Should also add that when we start to get a lot of tire spin on a track it's because we're really just spinning the tire in snow because the track is getting chewed up.

Are those the MF44 endurance studs?

    • @canadianiceracers3951

Yes they are. We are using taller studs the last couple of years since we started racing against bigger 4x4 quads for more traction. Can’t remember the name those ones right now but should be easily found online.

    Will it leak for tubeless

The tire will hold air, no tubes or tire sealant is needed. If the tread splits from use when riding that's when a leak occurs.

@@maddmavic MF44 endurance 2. We have had these for years now, but we might go with a longer stud this year. Now that the snow is about fly that's when I remember. Hey! Ice racing coming up better check back on the YT channel. Other words sorry for the late reply.
