  • This video demonstrates how to replace your automatic great shifter trim blind cover on a 2005-2009 Ford Mustang. Tools needed are: Ratchet & extension with a 10mm and 7mm socket, flathead screwdriver, T15 screwdriver and Philips-head screwdriver. *NOTE* - Make sure your parking brake is up and you're on level ground while changing your shifter trim blind cover. There will be times when you move your gear shifter from Park to Neutral and other gears.
Here is a link to purchase a new trim cover (shipping from the U.S., not China): amzn.to/3uycQKt
If the new trim piece you purchased is slightly wider than the original one, you can cut/trim the sides of the new piece with scissors.

Just replaced this part on my 2006 mustang. Instead of ordering the piece I went to Office Depot and bought a black folder that I cut to fit into place. Works perfectly and I only spent $4.

Thank you for this video. I ordered the part from eBay, but it didn't fit, so I had to cut it myself to make it fit. And now it works. My auto repair shop wanted to sell me a whole automatic shift gate. Now I have saved a lot of money by replacing the part myself.

Geez I've installed stereos in vehicles and had to.pull less crap.off. but my wife has an 05 mustang she bought brand new back then and this happen last year and been bugging me. Also the leather/vinyl on the door panels peeling off. But atleast the early 2000s trucks and cars were still somewhat easy to work on, everything pops on and off with tabs and clips.

I’ve got a 2014 I’m gonna try to use this knowledge for if the dealer doesn’t fix this by Friday. But it’s more the orange indication doesn’t line up with the actual gear it’s in. So I’ll fix that myself.
*Edit*: I’d be cleaning it up too while I’m at it.

When I took my shifter off it was just the metal arm piece. Somehow my car is missing the plastic piece that goes over that meaning I can’t get my replacement track piece to line up correctly. Do you know what the piece is called?

Hi, my great shifter trim blind cover broke, and now my gears don't match the letters - for example, I have to put it in "neutral" to reverse, and I have to put it in 3 to drive. I'm going to be getting it fixed in the next couple of days, but I'm wondering if it's safe to drive until then. I did make it home after discovering the issue, but I'm reluctant to drive it again until it's fixed. Thanks!

Good tutorial, but gosh there’s so much cheap chinsy brittle plastic in that whole shifter & console assembly. What a cheap & awful design by Ford, they tend to do much better than this with their interior quality.
