This was one of my wifes favorite Garth songs and it was our wedding song. When she was diagnosed with cancer I would sing this to her after her chemo treatments. The day after she passed I was driving home and this came on the radio, its like she knew I needed to hear it.

20 years ago I met a girl. We had three months together. She showed me this song. I didn't know it then but that was the best time of my life. I was 20 and an idiot. I left her and moved to Texas. I came back a year later with the intentions of winning her back, getting a good job and proposing 6 months later. I showed up at her restaurant and asked to sit in her section. When she came out from around the bar I saw it ... She was about 6 months pregnant. I knew then that I had made the biggest mistake I could have ever made. I lost her 20 years ago. Last week I had a dream about her, first dream in a decade. I contacted her, we spoke for hours. She's divorced, she confessed to me that I was the love of her life and that she still loved me. That she had been waiting for me. It's the one thing I've wanted to hear for the last 2 decades. The only problem is I'm married and we have 2 young kids. Life is painful. I've been listening to this song for the last week and it hurts more every time. I feel like I've lost her all over again.

Remember your parents and those who helped raise you. I'm just days from 45 and the greatest memory I have of my father was when I was a wrestler as a freshman in high school. I won a conference championship against 7 seniors. When I turned around to walk off the mat, my father was running from the top row of the bleachers to meet my...with a damn dislocated hip...and gave me the biggest damn bearhug ever! This was over 25 years ago and the greatest memory of life. And it was of a man who was tough but made his boys tough.

The only thing that helps any at all is remembering one at a time the good memories that you have . I lost my husband of 40yrs when he fell asleep in his chair watching TV and never woke up . I curse, I scream, I cried until I couldn't hardly breath . It's been 7 years now and there's still a huge hole in my heart . But I still wouldn't have changed the thing . Lord but I LOVED THAT DANCE !!!!! ❤❤️💔💔💔

My friend Texas songwriter Aaron Watson lost a daughter, and he wrote a song called Bluebonnets (Julia's Song). You just said it, we are only hear for a little time.
Long gone like bluebonnets in the spring
We're only here for a little while
    It's beautiful and bittersweet
So make the most of every mile
So pack light and love heavy
Give it all your heart and soul
So in the end you won't regret one thing
Life is like bluebonnets in the spring

This song is probably Garth's best. It's also much more meaningful with the original and official music video. It shows people like those on the doomed space shuttle Challenger, Martin Luther King and his wife and child, JFK with his family, John Wayne, Keith Whitley and his wife Lorrie Morgan, and pro-rodeoer Lane Frost. They all could have missed the pain, we all could have, but we'd all miss the enjoyment, the depth, the accomplishments, and the ups and downs that came from those few lives, as well as in our own lives with those we've loved that aren't with us today. It's a great song to remind us that our best moments are the ones we have now, and to cherish our time here with our loved ones, because we don't know how things would go if the dance was without us or our loved ones. I think this and "If Tomorrow Never Comes" are probably the best and most meaningful songs Garth Brooks has ever made.
One thing about Garth Brooks, his producer was Allan Reynolds. Allan Reynolds only does one or two takes of a song, and doesn't over-produce songs like they do commonly today. He wanted Garth to put his all into it and hold nothing back. This is particularly evident on his first 3 albums which I think were all produced by Reynolds. So what you hear was pretty much a one take song, with full heart and soul into it, and it has become a top tier country song for over 3 decades and a #1 song. That speaks to the talent of the artist and the songwriter, but also the genuineness of both Garth and the songwriter of "The Dance", Tony Aratta. That piano instrumental kills me every time.

Sending prayers your way. I lost my mother when I was 20. I'm 63 now. Then I lost my sister in law. Then I lost my dad in 2007 and lost my only sibling, my brother less than a year after losing my dad. God bless you. I feel what you're going through.💜

Great memories are definitely worth the risk. You can’t be sure ever

I have lost both my parents and most of my elder family. (I am the third oldest person in my family now.) I am sorry for your loss and wish I had the words or wisdom to help you through this. The thing is everyone grieves different. Take your time. The memories will flood at you. Hold those dear but please don't let them get you stuck. The future is still yours for the taking. Never forget that.
