@wifernwifern No problem. Thanks for tuning in. The paint I used is interior latex with a satin or eggshell sheen. The cloudsd are the same paint. I think I used Behr ultra pure white from Home Depo and added my other colors to that. I used quarts of red yellow and blue from Sherwin Williams. It's all the same kind of paint though. If you need slower drying time, then wait a day between coats. a freshly dried coat speeds the dry time of additional coats on top.
you can use anything. I find acrylic latex wall paint to be the easiest because it floes out quickly and dries fast so you can add layers. you may find blending difficult with the fast dry time. Floetrol helps a lot with that. you can see more about that in my vid, Common Questions. Hope this helps you. Thanks for watching.
Behr ultra pure white, interior, eggshell for the white. The red, yellow and blue I think are Sherwin Williams. They have a red base and a bright yellow base that I like to use. The blue is the ultra deep base with 12 ounces of blue tint added. I use these primaries to mix all of my colors.
Thank you very much! I only do commission work so far but I may do more work on canvas in the future. I am presently tossing around the idea of doing workshops for folks looking for some instruction. For me, teaching is more fun than doing. I really appreciate your compliments.
Hi Joe! Wow...Love your work! I am doing a kitchen remodel and I needed a clever solution to utilize a ceiling box-light frame that once housed fluorescent bulbs. I painted the frame and ceiling a beautiful white, (will now install recessed can lights on the outer perimeter) and paint a lovely sky mural within the frame~ thanks to your influence!! BRAVO! Problem solved...Will check out your videos too!
@Akaliko If you're not bothered by the fumes of the oil and the thinner, then the oil will give you more workability. I always have to move faster because I use the water base. However, oil base paints apply slower than water base. Kinda like spreading peanut butter vs applesauce. Thanks for the question.
It's a recorded loop that comes with the software, "Garage Band". All of the music on that program is free for commercial use. Thanks for the nice words.
Omgoodness you are such a great artist. You have away of explaining where your coming from, to achieve the desired art work and it look real.:) Everyone of your tutorials that I have watched have helped me. Thank you so much for sharing. You truly have an amazing gift.
I love the colors! this is amazing. Could you tell me what colors I need to paint something like this?? I have my own idea in mind but having a hard time deciding what color paint to use
Thank you so much I have been trying to find a easy way to make clouds for my bed room ceilung and you, made it so simple. I live it and getting started today. You did an amazing job and can't wait to get started on mine. 😁😁😁👍✌
@wifernwifern I also use Modern Masters water base faux glaze (one hour open time) as an additive sometimes to extend the dry time of my paint. Hope that helps.
I'm sorry this is misleading. I add red as well. you just don't see it well in the video. I add more red where it meats the blue but the red and yellow are not necessary. I just like my white to be slightly orange for this application.
You are so adorable! And what a lovely little Sylvan Family of Joe's. I'm a painter and was going to be doing some invention rather than drawing from nature to model some clouds and the ease of your demo looked like fun. The videos point out the plasticity and character of your drawing. Nice! Do you have another life as a fine artist? Nice.
Hey Joe - Excellent tutorial. I am excited to try this. I am equally excited by the acoutic fretwork on the soundtrack you put this to. Who may I ask is the composer/performer? Thanks!
Hi Darja. Just because I mixed the colors on the wall doesn't mean that you have to. Have you watched my other video "How to Paint Clouds In a Room"? It is much more discriptive on what paint to use and technique. This video is a good example of a way to layout the shapes of the clouds. Thank you for watching.
muraljoe please tell me the cost to have you here to paint our ceilings with clouds.....my daughters want it in their rooms, and will let you stay with them while doing the work in our Venetian Manson.
Great video, I’m inspired! I’d really love to do this on the ceiling in our bathroom. What are your thoughts on the humidity in a bathroom, would it ruin the paint?
Hi Joe. Awesome as usual. I have a question though: i see you mixing in some yellow on the sun lit parts and then you use blue for shadow. How do you prevent green from popping up?
Could you do this with pink and purple n whatever color u need, I bet it would look so color. You wouldn't have to do it on your ceiling just on some flat wood or cardboard or something
Helo Mural!I wanna try to do clouds in my room first time but i dont have any information about it..how called this thing, what i can used for the color do not go so fast dry,and how i must use this? Do you buy different colors of u mix them self? How u do different blue colors, that they gonna easy one to other, just mix them on the wall? Thank U!Im waiting answer.
Joe I have tried and tried and tried but to no avail....frustration has now taken its toll and I have unfortunately given in. but excellent tuition, I just cannot see it in my eye as I do it...….
joe what r all the colors you are using for ceiling and clouds? thanks for the tutorial it helps i have a victorian house and i have been renovating it for 6 years ,i'm finely to paint and on the front porch ceiling i am going to do clouds , when i finish i will send u a photo.
i wnna ask a question joe , so .. im about to paint clouds on my ceiling.. soo.. im wondering , the base coat u use is what paint? and issit the same as the paint that you use to paint the clouds? if no , what paint did you use and the type :) thankyou.. i hope you can reply my question asap
Which paint did you use? I want to paint a nebula in my son's bedroom but I don't know wich pait is the best for the job, oil? acrylic? water paint? i'm a little bit confused...
You needed more light in your clouds with a touch of reddish-orange hues running at the topmost edges near your sunlight perspective. It just brings a little more life into them suggesting movement. Nice work though.
@Joe actually, I'm an artist. I was just making a suggestion on how light travels in nature and hits objects. Clouds are vapour and light reacts differently on them. Movement of light and refraction is dependent on the contours of the object it hits. I was only making an observation and suggestion. It wasn't meant as anything but that. Sorry, but I'd want the critique to improve my art. Carry on.
Doing this to my bedroom ceiling today!!! Thank you for this video, I've been watching it all week. I'm excited to try it!
ayo ik its been 7 years but how did it go

Where are you out of?
@@poybenp Hi there Benjamin! I live in Flagstaff AZ.

That's fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing that.
May I suggest reducing the volume of your guitar soundtrack?
I could never do this. I'd rather just pay you to do this to one of my rooms
Same. I’d want this^ guy to pay you to do this at my house as well
^ how much for ceiling clouds?
I'll doo it it for $5.00 a square foot. Angels and cherubs are approximately $200 per item.
hi joe im a nigerian painter i really love your work and you are good model to look up to
Moving soon. Can't wait to they these techniques in the new house. Getting the "why" something is done in addition to how it's done is tremendous
Joe, unreal. What a masterful painter/muralist/ARTIST.

Very cool Joe. I love how you don't just use blue, white, and gray. Good eye!

This is really really nice. I love clouds very much. I can't wait to do some of these to my bedroom :)
like your cloud tutorial I have a job coming up and we have to do clouds this was helpful.
It would be such an honor to meet Akiane some day. I read a book about her. She is amazing. Thank you for the compliment.
@wifernwifern I also use Modern Masters water base faux glaze (one hour open time) as an additive sometimes to extend the dry time of my paint. Hope that helps.
Amazing, we have to give that a try, looks realistic!

Mine came out way more abstract but yours were fun to watch

Awesome job bro! 👍🏻
Ha ha, thank you! That would be an expensive cloud job. I wish I could make it easy for you. I'll work on that.
he makes it look so easy......
that was awesome, is very difficult to do that.
I use 1 1/2 " to 2 1/2" contractor brushes from Purdy. Good luck with your project!
Love it

Cool!!It was what i was seraching for!!!Thanks!!
So do you prefer a ladder over using scaffolding? I've heard it can cause neck pain.

You and Akiane Kramaric can shake hans!
my passion are the clouds. but I feel it is more difficult to paint.
amazing
This is exactly what I was looking for. I can't wait to paint this in my new room. What size brushes are you using?
Wonder how your shadow would change tone with different light bulbs shining upon the work?
I really want this mural on my ceiling. How I wish I could do it! 🙁
muraljoe This is beautiful! Were you using a photo reference or making it up??
Joe I have tried and tried and tried but to no avail....frustration has now taken its toll and I have unfortunately given in. but excellent tuition, I just cannot see it in my eye as I do it...….
Dang this guy is genius.
Harder than you make it look Joe, nice job, please paint my ceiling!
@10231898 Definitely. That would be cool.
Ok awesome! Hit me up on Facebook if I can help you with any tips. I know my vids don't have real thorough instructions.
This is brilliant, thank you (:

Thanks for answer me!

I’m doing this in my room!!!

Which paint did you use? I want to paint a nebula in my son's bedroom but I don't know wich pait is the best for the job, oil? acrylic? water paint? i'm a little bit confused...
nice!
great but why the overpowering noise ?
just wonder what is best to use... oil, or acrylic?
What colors do you use for painting on wall? Are they oil based?
Ever toy with painting the shadows the same tone and value as your REAL shadow cast on the ceiling as seen in the video?
how many colors i need, obviously sky blue, white and yellowish color right? i want this for my girls room ceiling
12 years ago? You've been doing that already?
Can't watch this video, the music is too loud. Can you fix that?
hey mate, can you tell us all the paint colours that you used ?
What kinda yellow didja use??
You needed more light in your clouds with a touch of reddish-orange hues running at the topmost edges near your sunlight perspective. It just brings a little more life into them suggesting movement. Nice work though.

Please tell us the color names and brand, please :)

Joe you to good of painting I don't think I will be able to do it right can I hire you only
Let's make a nice Little bush here on the corner with some titanium white..... That's gone be are little secret...
Do you know how to paint in perspective on a ceiling? e.g. a balloon floating away...
NICE! Good video but background music is a little too loud and a little distractive…I’d go with even easier music in the background
👍👍👍
i can imagine the neck pain
How can I hire you?
Transparent broken up clouds don't have this dark of shading.
The guitar is so loud I have trouble hearing him
Wondering how I will ruin my wall thinking this will be easy.
Alright vid man shame I could only just make out what you are saying because the music was quite loud.
