My son grabbed my arm yesterday and pointed to the sunset. "Look, mom--those clouds are as beautiful as the ones Mural Joe paints!" You are doing an awesome job, and I really thank you for posting these.
You are one hard working artist and you are really blessed with lots of talent. We all appreciate your videos. Don't worry about the rocket science comments. As long as your making a living at this, that's all that counts. You a re a great artist. Thank you very much.
I'm not going to read the comments to find out what was said about anything rocket science oriented; however, if someone is saying this isn't "rocket science," well, first, no. It isn't. ;) (At least they got that much right!) Second, if they are here watching the video for any length of time, they are probably here to learn and feeling a little out of their league! Third, Mural Joe isn't painting-by-number; he's painting by-hand! I agree with A Martin, "It takes a special...intellect, (and)... Joe is a genius!" I came to find out about painting a beach sunset on a large wall. I have *never* painted more than maybe trim around a window or some shelves - plain, blocky, done. :) So I'm absorbing all I can about light, depth, color, etc., and I'm thrilled to be here! Thank you, Mural Joe! "Liked & Subscribed!"
Thanks for being straight with your teaching, MuralJoe. That's the most directly informative lesson on art I've ever had. Everywhere else just seems to gloss over the important stuff. (I'm an digital artist/animator and I'm trying to refine techniques and I always struggled with clouds. I'm confident your method will help me improve- despite the fact it's digital work)
OHMYGOSH!! I just started really painting about 7 months ago and it all started after years of watching Bob Ross. I've been struggling with clouds (not that I can't make the BR blended clouds) and want them to look like what I see out of my window. I've watched countless videos and asked a million questions and until finding your video I was still very down in the mouth about my clouds. My first set of clouds I did with acrylic paints looked like a cotton ball spaceship... my other clouds have always blended away into almost air. I've wanted those layered clouds that you can almost reach out and touch for my paintings as I'm getting ready to paint the side of a mini camper my husband built! Your video is golden for what I've been trying to learn. Thank you so much!!!!! I can not wait to try my clouds with this tutorial! OMGOSH I'm excited about painting these.
Thank you for this. I’m currently doing a mural of clouds in a room and I have overthought the process. I can paint anything on a small scale, but for whatever reason a mural is so intimidating. These tips help so much!
I am an artist in Belize and watch you a lot, please never change how you do your videos , i like how you explain step by step...thank you so much...you are a master...
I really appreciate that you give such clear directives, are non pretentious and just do wonderful work. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for your videos...thanks so much. Currently, well it's been ongoing: this work in progress of mastering atmospheric clouds. Your instruction in this video offers a clear path even as others are fine but I like a 'road map' if you will. :) So much of my work is inspired by the local South Louisiana landscape so you can see why I really need and want to be able to provide beautiful clouds.
Thank You ! Thank You ! for years i been avoiding doing clouds for not knowing how to do them,, man i was smiling doing the whole video, Thank You so much my friend and God Bless....
Very recently I chanced upon your videos and must admit they connect with the subject with feel of happiness . Clouds and waves being my favourite... you are superb 👌
This is so helpful. I'm thinking about painting a cloud mural in my room and this has given me a great idea of how the execution of it would go. Thank you Joe!
joe- i luv this technique- just have to practice it a million times and then will start to get it. i get a lot of streaks and then have to scrub a lot. . the pink in the clouds really make it pop- great job.m
kia ora joe i love your work, ive learnt a lot from you I've nearly watched all your vids and i cannot get enough of it i can't say anything bad about your work because it is spot on bro keep up the good work mauri ora
What an easy to follow guide you've posted here! I was looking for some inspiration to paint clouds on wine glasses and you've helped me A LOT! Thanks Joe!
Yes! it's really amazing just how many things in nature have that very characteristic. like water, trees, branches, mountains... and millions of little things. Some are just more scrambled than others.
Thank you very much for posting this video. It was extremely informative and I certainly learned a lot. The tips on what types of paint to buy are great because I usually end up with colors that are either too similar or too contrasting if I attempt to pick them myself. I have been intending to paint something similar for a while and your video has now made this a more happily anticipated experience for me. The shadowing is beautifully done-I fully intend to check out other videos of yours!
Well, I'm not an artist by any means but I do love to draw and paint. I wanted to paint clouds in my bedroom because I have this whole sky theme going on and thought clouds would be a nice touch to the dull blue wall. However I have been absolutely DREADING doing the clouds. I saw your video and am so inspired!!..Meaning I may have to hire you instead of doing it myself!! D8 In all seriousness, you are amazing and I just LOVE your talents. God bless you and your career!! (and wish me luck, too!)
I use the same paints that people use for exterior walls. Just keep in mind that oil base is slower to apply and fades in the sun. Water base is not quite as resistant to moisture. I would still use all exterior acrylic paint though and then use an acrylic exterior clear coat over it as well. I just don't know what products you have there in the UK. I use a lot of Sherwin Williams for exteriors. A lot of painters here like Dunn Edwards too. I'm sure there are many other pro opinions about brands
Great video! I am attempting this in a friend's new nursery this weekend. Your video is so good, it gives me the confidence so that I feel like I can actually accomplish it. I will have your video on my phone so I can reference it when needed. Someone mentioned above that your narration sounds like "a cross between Maguiver and Charles Bronson", we actually think it sounds more like David Blaine! Thank you for a great video!
Wow God bless your talent, of all the cloud painting videos I've watched none have been as easy to understand for me as this one, also very informative :3
perfect lesson for a "never painted a cloud on a wall" Grandmother! I'm making a Beatrix Potter room for my Granddaughters & I have the room painted blue & green...now just need the clouds & some meadow grass. You explained things perfectly & I am going to give it a try! Thanks for sharing your talent.
Yeah I know what you mean. I would look for a small angled brush. Same shape as the big one I use but small, just like the one I use in How to paint Ocean Water. I rarely use any other brushes.
Hey man I Just ran into your feed a while back. Really digging your videos. Yours are a step above in skill and in demonstration. you explain yourself very well. Hope you are still making videos.
I'm teacher for arts, painting etc. Your practice and videos are really bloody brilliant. It would be great, if there are German translation or subtitles. Thank you a lot!
I always use angled brushes with synthetic bristles. Typical paint contracting brushes. and for the small stuff I use angled artist brushes with the synthetic bristles
That's great! I hope it turns out awesome for you. The exact color is at 0:04 in the video. That is the color for the entire sky except that I added white as it gets closer to the horizon line. Thank you for watching.
I'm going to do a large exterior mural in the uk and we get bad weather do you have any advice on what paint to use and if I should use a varnish to add more protection? Cheers joe . Drew
mural Joe I work at sherwin williams. the sample quarts are actully similar to the cheapest contractor paint we carry. We do insist that it isn't paint that is built to last but it does just fine.
Ha ha. That's funny. Thanks. Those are not terrible guys to resemble. I did start my car with two paralleled drill batteries and some aux wires yesterday.
i love your video, got the information which i wanted regarding colours. This acrylic latex colours should b used directly or should it b with any binding agents?
A Cumulus cloud is an accumulated shape made of a cluster of smaller similarly shaped clusters made up of a cluster of smaller similarly shaped clusters made up of a cluster of smaller similarly shaped clusters made up of...... Love your videos!
Hi Joe, I am trying to paint a mural on my cement block wall! I am having a hard time trying to blend colors on the cement. I dries so fast I can’t blend it at all. Even though the mural is big should I use a medium to help my blend or am I just doing it wrong. I want the blue at the top to become lighter at the mountain range. I’m in Phoenix and it is really dry! Oh you just said fLowtral. Maybe I’ll see if I can get to help!! Thank you 🎨👏👏
Do you have any tutorials for seagulls just did a beach themed bathroom didn't want to do the lines looks tacky want to do more detailed thanks for the cloud tips ganna try it out. I love clouds.
Thank you Joe for all of you in sight. I'm not an artist and I'm trying to paint a mural on my basement floor. I want to paint platform in the sky looking down on the clouds. Can you show me how to do that?
My son grabbed my arm yesterday and pointed to the sunset. "Look, mom--those clouds are as beautiful as the ones Mural Joe paints!" You are doing an awesome job, and I really thank you for posting these.
This guy is a great teacher which is better than a great painter when you want to learn. Great presentation great work and great articulation
I totally agree with you.
There isn't any reason to complain about Joe's work. It's just amazing, not only a high quality work but also well explained. That guy has a gift...
hes a great painter and a great artist and a great teacher lol
You are one hard working artist and you are really blessed with lots of talent. We all appreciate your videos. Don't worry about the rocket science comments. As long as your making a living at this, that's all that counts. You a re a great artist. Thank you very much.
It takes a special type of intellect to be an artist. Joe is a genius at perceiving patterns and in understanding natural phenomena.

You are a very good teacher and painter. Thank you for sharing your techniques with us regular folks who have no idea where to start or what to do.
