  • Last time on Lunch Ride I installed a Fox Factory Transfer dropper post to help quiet down the ride. Well, I isolated another cause of clatter: the cables running through the down tube. While they do have a little bit of foam around the housing, they are still making enough noise for me to think there could be improvement. So, what I aim to do is gently stuff the down tube with air filter material that you can find at any hardware or home store. This will add bulk to the cavity of the tube and should keep the housings from any unnecessary movement. Plus, it weighs, just about nothing.
I originally saw this tip in a video by Mr. Tonka, and I thought it was a damn fine idea. So, check out his video when you realize how little time I had to make this video…. yeah.

Off course it was helpful specially for those who doesn't have channel for cables in their down tube and hate the rattle sound, but not for those who is going "cable less" ( got to hate those freaks with bluetooth gadgets....lol, because I am not one of them!!!!), what can I say your bike will thank you in those winter colds when is going to be quiet and very warm, thank you, V!

The Bluetooth stuff is amazing. I would not say no if I was handed a set. 🤑

I have a feeling that filter material will be too light weight and you’ll still have cable rattle. Did you consider the zip ties in the down tube trick?

I didn’t know about that trick. But I will tell you that stuffing the filter material worked perfectly! I love it.

You're making this way too hard on yourself. Get the foam shrouding that fits onto the cable itself. You just slide it on the housing through the cable guides.... only thing you have to remove is the guide grommet

It already had the foam on the housing. Still rattled.

Any idea what happens to this material over time as water gets into the frame?

Honestly, no. (note to self: possible follow-up video idea.)
