- In this video i will be looking at Novus Malum by Enviro Games, their ethos on Eco-friendly and sustainable wargaming products and how they've managed to make that a reality.
And if your interested in the 'Test Model' process, ill be painting up some of the models from the box.
Don't forget to subscribe for more painting tips and tricks.
Also I've partnered up with the The Army Painter, and will be using their Warpaint Fanatic range in my videos.

thank you peach! luv u too. That teal dwarf is lookin nice. 🙂
🫶 Hey Brent thanks for stopping by, always enjoy watching your stuff
❤ Brent!!
we love an eco king
😍🙏😍
Really tried to get eco warriors into my titke or thumbnail, but just couldn’t quite get it to work lol
Hey Trent! Loved your video on making terrain by re-using old plastic food packaging as moulds. Now if only they would start making /packaging donuts in the shape of 28mm miniatures 🤔
Innovations like this in our hobby are so important to help build a sustainable wargames industry. The models are great!
Also this must be the first time in YT history that someone has said they love Raid without actually being sponsored by them! 😂😂
Hahaha! I genuinely do love the game, mostly because of the colour scheme, kitbash and conversion ideas I can steal 😂👍
Thank you for your hard work Peachy👍 I enjoyed the positive messaging about sustainability and also enjoyed your process for a test model.
Garbage industry insider here:
Plastic as a product is fine. The problem is single use plastic or plastic packaging that is problematic. By far these are the things filling the ocean.
Thank you, always great to hear useful info like this 😍👍
Small sidenote though; even lego and plastic drunking bottles will lose little flakes of plastic over time that end up everywhere, even inside us. So you are right in that single-use plastic is worse, other plastics unfortunately also cause problems.
@@dendronkenfoetus Tru dat
Sb who worked recycling told me at least here in Austria most plastics aren’t recycled cause… you guessed it, not profitable. My German mother has been sorting up to three kinds of plastic since the nineties, only for most of it being burnt or buried. So if „we“ don’t want to socialize everything, we at least should consider to cut down on our plastic use drastically.
Almost all kinds of plastic shed microplastics which can be incredibly damaging themselves. Indeed, a lot of pollution of glacier areas is microplastic fragments from jackets and coats.
But in this case, the pollutive matters is more the avoidance of shipping huge distances from the cheapest manufacturing places.
What's wrong with "generic" fantasy? All that means is YOU get to make up the lore as you go, and use your imagination. Very cool product; I'll look into it more.
Wise words indeed….and 100% support this take 😍
I love generic fantasy, and within generic fantasy, I like humans the most.
It's a blank canvas. Pink skinned gnomes and albino dwarfs for me
@@nightlordAL Now THAT is a colour scheme we cant wait to see!
great to see your video on Novus Malum mate, i had a long chat with the team at UKGE too and picked up the set which was built immediately.
Awesome! They’re great folks, love the ethos and concept of their business, and it’s great to hear your a firm supporter too 👍
This is why I love ArtelW products, that feeling when you get the wax sealed, string tied, brown paper wrapped box. It is almost as exciting as the minis inside the box. Small details add a huge amount of value to the experience.
" i just love dwarves, they're great." Peachy 2024. Best quote of the year for me❤
Test models are almost always the best times i have painting. The excitement for the project is normally at its peak for me, and the creative spark is definitely sparking.
Couldn't agree more! And sometimes even if it doesn’t work out on that particular model it’s worth banking the scheme for other stuff down the line
I have a box full of PLA plastic detritus from my 3D printers that I am hoping to recycle one day so I fully support this initiative. Downloaded the rulebook for free from their website and the game looks great! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome! Thank you for watching g and checking them out 🤘
Thanks for checking out the rules!
Great video Mr Peach. You've done yourself proud. Your ancestors are looking down on your work, and they are happy. Thanks.
Keep up the good work.
❤❤❤ thanks boss, I appreciate you 🙏
Good morning and happy Sunday Peachy 🌅
Embrace your inner Sméagol and Gollum just as much as you would embrace your inner child self as it does keep you safe, sane and secure…
Thanks Peachy! Looks like a great game with loads of scope for future development.
I’m very excited to see where it goes, and also what other factions they have in store
Another small games company doing good thing re: reducing environmental impact is Olmec Games. They’ve shifted towards reducing packaging for models and making what they do use recyclable. They’re also shifting towards 3D printing in house to minimise wastage too. Plus their game is a great skirmish game involving dinosaurs!
Well that sounds cool! 🦖🦖🦖
Great video! This looks like a fun game and the paint jobs you did were superb. Thanks for highlighting such an exciting new company, and one you support!
Cheers Steve, as a pleasure making the video
Hi Peachy. Just wanted to say thank you for another awesome video. I've watched your videos from the GW days and since you've gone off on your own I think it's awesome. Been painting for 20 odd years and do it more these days to help with my Ptsd and anxiety from my time in Iraq. Can I just say thank you. There's loads of people who give tips but you give so much confidence an actually come across as human unlike some. It really helps my head too.
Well I’m honoured to be able to help in some small way, though I’ve never had to go through the experiences you’ve had to, it’s nice to know that my videos can bring positivity to your day. And it’s a big win for me that keeping things fun and simple helps folks like yourself.
Keep up the good work and stay strong you magnificent human 😍💪
I love dwarves too! If I see a random box of generic dwarves at a game store, I'm picking it up and painting it.
Now that’s knowing how to live your best life
Feel very guilty about all my plastics. I'll give this a look. Thanks for the recommendation
Just a quick note for all the eco-friendly people out there.
Glossy magazines and box art contain chemicals that are non-biodegradable, so plain brown cardboard packaging and monotone (Black and white) illustrated paper cover sheets are much more eco-friendly, as they can be recycled or used to make pieces of scenery (Creative recycling/upcycling), or kept simply to store your hobby items/tools in.
LOVE this video, as I am a huge Dwarf fan for many decades now, and may just buy this game just for the beautiful minis themselves, as they look like a joy to paint.
Not much of a fan of cleaning up minis, I have to admit, but it's worth it in the end, when you see your paint schemes come to life as you go along.
Thanks again, Peachy, for another inspiring tutorial/review 🙂
😍😍😍 tbf is anyone a fan of cleaning miniatures lol, it’s definitely a task that needs to be done, but I’d rather be painting 😂
Thank you for commenting, super helpful stuff 😍👍
Peachy, seriously love this video, thank you! I'm a bearded, dwarf-loving, mountain-crazy wildlife conservationist! And that Dwarf mini paintjob is fantastic!
❤❤❤❤ yaaay! Brother I’ve found you 🫶
Best brown paper…. And paraffin oil
Hahaha! I wanted to mention that but wasn’t sure if it’ll get lost on a lot of folks…..feel I missed a trick for the Sharpe fans though 🤦♂️😂
Now GW has new edition sets without the army rules.
This looks fun.
Thank you Peachy
“Paraffin oil and best brown paper Mr Sharpe” . We KNOW why you really like brown paper Peachy lol
😂😂😂
This is really cool! I often worry about the environmental impact of my hobby. Hopefully more companies will start doing this.
Hola Fellow beardless dwarf!
It’s very interesting what you said about the base it makes total sense that the surrounding colour impacts how you see the mini!
Even now, I sometimes forget to repaint it, and get puzzled why my scheme looks odd lol
Love the aesthetic of the cardboard and paper - makes it very "luxurious". Great models as well.
Looking at that test model, that is one gnarly looking gnome.
Me, "Find someone who looks at you the way that Peachy looks at his models."
Peachy, "... I could do better."
Gnarly, or a knarly Knarlwood Knome 😂
Thanks again. Bit of feedback I think your chapter markings/titles are from a previous video about scenery.😊
Yes, you are right, I mean to sort that last night, thank you for the reminder 🙏
The impact of plastic production of models all across the world is extremly small, comparing to stuff like transport fillers, bags or plastic cord used to secure stuff. People with plastic models shouldn't feel too bad. And for the full victorian box expiriance it should have either and inlay or isolation paper. Coloured light blue or green , with the tone and depth of the paint being dependant on how strong the arsenic paint was.
Thank you Peachy :) I love your content it's fun to build/paint to!
Aww thank you I appreciate you 😍🙏😍
The Evil Gnomes strike again. Must tell the Overlord to cush them. Great video Mr Peach and they seem like a great start up company, look forward to seeing how they progress.
Love this , lets hope they succeed and start to influence others in the sector
Thanks Mr Peachy, came across a little needy at the end there 😛but your time, effort and hard work are all every much appreciated. Cheers for the video.
Hahaha! Yeah I realised after launch that might be how it seems 🤦♂️ thanks for keeping me grounded 😍👍
Thank you, this is a legit concern I had begun to have as my collection and sprue trash grew
I received an order from Artel W miniatures that was in a little brown cardboard box, wrapped in twine, and sealed with wax with a W imprinted into it. I thought it was really charming and helped cement the quality of the company in my mind. :)
Teal dwarf looking strong !
💪
Very interesting angle. It's good to know that there is a company making miniatures with low eco footprint in mind. I'll check them. Also, a real nugget in there is tour notebook for the process. It would deserve a video on its own 😊
Oooh, never thought much about my note book, just lots of schemes and dreams in there, but if folks want to see a video on the secrets of an army painter then yeah I’m game lol
@@PeachyTips personally, yes. I find painting notes so be the unsung heroes of the Hobby. So far, I heard only James Sothero from Siege Studio explicitly mention them as a tool to improve consistency, but also experiment better with colors. Seeing how another painter approaches notes would be mega.
Really like the green and red combo on the Knome Peachy! Never thought about doing green skin before. Wonder if it would "pop" more if you tried a shade of light purple for the robes and some light brown or white fur around his wrists/ankles? The Dwarf Hammerer looks super. As you said you cant beat a silver; blue and gold scheme, its always a winner. Glad you not only had a great time with the minis but also liked the packaging. We spent a lot of time trying to keep the premium look and feel, while also making everything biodegradable/recyclable. Enjoyed reading through everyone's comments/criticisms, we are taking it all on board and trying to improve as much as possible! Fantastic video as always. Thanks again - Andy.
That’s a smashing suggestion Andy, I’ll give that a try, also I have the feel bads as I didn’t give you a shout out in the vid 🤦♂️
Glad you enjoyed it, really excited to see where you guys go with these products
Great video peach 🍑
You are the best x
the plastics in miniatures are not actually much of an issue. plastics in clothes, plastics in tyres and "disposable" plastic packaging are the biggest offenders for plastic pollution. those introduce microplastics into the environments. your minis you put in your display case release close to 0 microplastics, especially compared to a single load of laundry.
As long as you don't file or scrape the mold lines...
@@kudosbudo those are included in the drop of the bucket compared to a single load of laundry.
Thank you peachy for the video!
🫶 thank you for watching 🫶
The studs always need more love!
Oooooooo they are some cool looking s
Dwarves thats my christmas sorted
I really like this video format--great overview! And you're so right about the brown paper packaging.
Thanks! And I’m a big fan of brown paper parcels even more now
thank you peach!
Ecowarrior gaming!!
Yeah! Also I immediately forgot all the cool thumbnail ideas you mentioned so I’ll need to redo my title etc
😂🤦♂️
Thanks peach, inspired to try your Knome colour scheme on some wood elves
Cheers Tom, we’ll I’m glad my failed scheme will work for someone, hope you had a safe journey home btw
Anyone else expecting Peachy to break into a rendition of 'these are a few of my favourite things' during this video? 😂
Hahaha, well now I’m wishing I had 😂
@@PeachyTips so am I!
😂😂😂
Thank you for all your hard work, Peach!
Hahaha! Thanks boss
Thank you Mr Peach!
The look of the knomes with a k reminds me of the brownies from the film Willow. I think that's how I'd paint them
Pretty minis and simple skirmish game mechanics in an 80 quid starter set. When I have the spare money then deal me in
We appreciate your efforts peachy 😊
Awesome video Peachy, and love all your takes! I Really appreciate what the folks at Enviro Games have done. Like you, opening this box really felt special - I REALLY loved the smell, opening the envelopes that contained the wood-cut tokens. there was something about it, I don't know what. They have been my only experience with Siocast miniatures, and it floors me the amount of tiny detail they can get.
I do think this isn't perfect for someone just entering the hobby, it is less beginner friendly - however, for people that are familiar with miniature games, this hits home well.
Months ago when I spoke to Dan for EG, I highly recommended them reaching out to you directly, to do just what you did here. So to see you doing this video is awesome! And I look forward to your video painting up the two characters! (hint hint) :D Thanks Peachy!
Thanks bud, and thank you for sending them my way too, it’s been super eye opening, and I must’ve cut the part out where I gush about the model details lol
@@PeachyTips In fairness, i just looked at the email, it was back in February. You had just dropped a video that you were making your own channel. I don't want to try and take credit for sending EG to you, just that I am so happy to see you and them connecting. I love the direction EG has gone, and I love what you do Peachy! Really awesome collaboration!
Did we just get a genuine RAID advertisement in a video that isn't even sponsored by them?
I think you did hahahaha
Such a useful resource for colour schemes etc, especially if folks struggle to pick colours that work well together.
#notsponsoredbyRAID
Great video good stuff💪
The gnomes have children of the forest vibes for sure
Most Green thing you can do is paint a Rogue Hobbies Goblin ;)
AI is the worst thing you can do, by a long way, it's 1 litre of cooling water just for typing the prompt (side eyes "200 prompt virgin" painters).
worst carbon footprint was traditionally the "last mile", maritime and rail are really carbon efficient despite the distances.
Electric vehicles have their own issues...
It's not just plastic that is basically "petrol" either, a lot of wood products use hydrocarbon based glues.
Sadly it's really hard to avoid, at least recycling & reusing do help a lot, nice to see a company trying to make a difference.
As always enjoy the great and also honest painting Peachy !
(and sorry about the neuro-divergent sponsored rant)
Always enjoy a rant neurodivergent or not, thank you for commenting, and I should go paint a rogue hobbies gobbo, but I’d make it look really gross and fleshy 😂
Amazing concept, about time there's a tabletop eco option!
They’re pretty decent. The dwarves I mean. It would be interesting to see different dwarf models compared. Like, older WHF next to the 8th/AoS Ironbreakers, next to these guys.
That’s a cool Idea, annoyed with myself now as that would’ve been fun to add into the video
They are quite big for Dwarves! Definitely more on the AoS scale than WHF. We chose this scale so the Knomes would look very small in comparison while still retaining their detail.
I know what you mean about more simple brown boxes and packets, I'm a very tactile person in that regard and I'd love digging through a box like that.
It’s the best thing tbh 😍
Those Knomes remind me of the Wee Free Men from Discworld. Id be tempted to do their skin blue just for that reason.
I think I’ve seen some painted blue 😂👍 so you into something with that lol
@@PeachyTips I went to look at their website and they have them blue on the here, so I suspect that there might have been some inspiration taken. They look good.
Always interested in hearing about the old victorian smelting days!
😂😂😂 tough times for this man in the hobby
Corvus Belli are using siocast for their bigger stuff and warcrow but I know in the past reception has been mixed ... QC issues or siocast but all of those looked great.
Yeah you know what I didn’t even pick up on Corvus belli doing siocast 🤦♂️ those black legion guys are ace
Great video! Hopefully other miniature companies will follow this example.
I hope so too! It’s. It not as doom and gloom or quality effecting as I thought it would be, in fact I was blown away by the miniatures details, that chainmail 😘👌
The art of the game and how you colored them reminds me a bit of Bungie's "Myth: the Fallen Lords" game series... ahh yes, I'm very old. Thanks for this Peachy!
I too saw this at the Games Expo. I was tempted but I ended up not getting it. For me the knomes appealed the most, they looked pretty interesting. The dwarfs, while being perhaps the dwarfiest dwarfs that ever dwarfed, didn't have enough of a unique hook to appeal to me as much as the knomes.
Thanks for stopping by at Games Expo! What sort of factions would you like to see next?
Brent is a cool guy, goobertown follower here
He really is, and super smart too
I think the knome would look good with jaundiced skin and luminescent eyes, It might bring the skin out from the green clothes.
Always love to see a well painted dwarf. Amazing work as usual
Thankyou for the compliment, we're super pleased you enjoyed watching Peach giving his little beardy man a tickle of colour 😉
Luv Mrs Peach 🍑
A really good video, nice to see some eco consciousness in the industry. One thing I wasn't clear on though; how do you feel about Dwarves? 😂
Hahaha! I love those beardy guys, couldn’t you tell 🤣😂
There's so many plastics that can be recycled, I'm really interested in upcycling
Those dwarf minis look sick
Thanks, Peach loves a dwarf and really enjoyed painting them!
Luv Mrs Peach 🍑
Great vid mate ❤
Thanks 😁
"I hate painting greenskins," proceeds to give the gnome green skin... 😂 Looks great as always though and thst tone of green with the autumnal hair looks cool, very 'Children of the Forest' i think
I also love the honesty about struggling with the model and then caving to the strong tone, I think that is useful - I've had models that I struggled with or didn't enjoy but ended up looking OK with some perseverance (and liberal application of washes!!)
Hahaha yep that’s very true lol
I think it boils down to the fact that the shades, help define those details a bit more, helping to bridge the gap between colours etc but also helps tie all the colours together with that same tint. I super appreciate your comments thank you
I never click videos as fast as when i see Peachy vids.
😘😘😘
These look awesome! Gonna have to get some
These dwarf minis are great looking. The gnome is cool - doesn’t look like my vision of a gnome at all though, seems more of a goblin like being with some wild hair. 😅 Love seeing more unique and new minis from new companies always Peach!
We all try going down the brown route once in a while
Thank you for some great tips!
How do you do the small bushes on the base?
Those are tiny grass tufts from gamers grass, really great tufts and scale super well with miniatures
This link will take you straight to the tiny tufts section

If there is a management position at Peachy Tips going, I'll say thank you...
😂 that’s all I needed to hear…..and it tells me you watched the entire video 😍🙏😍
Just one piece of feedback for the game developers - a nice sticker with the game name on one of the sides would be cool, as i store boxes usually with other boxes on top of them
We've actually just changed the label to a box sleeve which includes text on the side. Not only does it help keep the box closed but means you can display it on your shelf with pride!
@@EnviroGamesLtdyou guys are smart 😍👍
I'm not normally a fan of fantasy dwarves but I quite like that one, maybe it's the armour or that funky shield. Hope they're successful and more companies can figure out how to reduce waste! (I heard that one of GW's biggest expenses is the electricity needed to melt the plastic pellets for manufacturing, so I guess using plastic will always have a horrible environmental effect...)
I do find dwarfs can be hit and miss depending on the designer/company but these one definitely tick my dwarfy box.
And though it’s been mentioned a ton of times in the comments that the impact of miniature plastics is small, I still prefer to see companies making those changes
@@PeachyTipsagreed, any industry change is welcome!
Interesting, was thinking disassembling and recasting bullets ☮
Another great vid Lord Peachington, have to ask though, until this video, I've only heard hate toward Siocast, so much I've steered clear so far, so any chance of a video about the different types of materials companies use and the pros and cons?
Being a relativity new technology SioCast seems to lack the wealth of expertise that other model making methods posses. Combo that with the process being quite tricky, it seems to have earned itself somewhat of a bad name. Luckily for us we have found a local supplier that really knows his stuff and had been able to make it work in our case!
Thank you sir for all your hard work. How do the dwarves scale to other dwarves?
I’d say they’re larger than Oathmark, and firestorm ones, but not by a great deal, a bit chunky for frostgrave stuff, but about the same as GW
@@PeachyTips thank you was thinking about alternatives for Oathmark
Not a particularly thought of impact of war gaming! I dread to think how many microplastics I alone pump out by clipping, cutting and filing my minis!
Just stuff like manilla envelopes for game pieces and basic printing on brown boxes massively improves the recyclability of the packaging. Great job Enviro games!
Peachy still have that graphics card for you if you still need it.

🥚🍑🥚 thank you kindly 😂😘
Thanks Peachy for the informative video. The miniatures look great but the question is will you be doing a play thought in the near future like you did the silver Bayonet?
I recorded a Necromunda game early this week, so I reckon in a couple of weeks I’ll have that ready, I want to do a few one offs of done other games etc then do a return to Sharpe and so on

@@PeachyTips 🤣
Thank you!
Great video again Peach, keep them up.
I had a couple questions withe for you, Mrs Peach or the community. Is silver bayonet model agnostic? So could I just grab some Poxwalkers and have at it?
Also any ideas for cost effective tufts? If I were to base an army with a couple to each base if need a fair few of this blister packs worth
So silver bayonet is pretty much use what you want, you could even use GW fantasy miniatures and play Mordhiem with it, but yes do what you will.
From a tufts pov, most companies do cost a fair wack, but you could always buy a bag/tub of static grass and use that, check my silver bayonet paintguide for applying said grass to minis with super glue.
There is also a piece of kit that you can make you own tufts, I need to look into it more, but it’s basically grease proof paper with pva glue, static grass sprinkled on and the an electric charge runs through and turns them into tufts….magic, in the long run that’ll be more cost effective
I would like to see more miniatures agnostic games myself - im very close to reaching "enough" miniatures now. That does no mean ill never buy anymore, but ill be slowing down substantially.
As such Miniatures agnostic games work really well for me. Cheaper and better for the planet.
Just to clarify - I enjoy the painting hobby, so I'll still do a bit, but I'll not need to do armies or units- just individuals.
Totally understand I’m exactly the same 😍👍
Really wish this game had a second starter with teams that are more appealing to my tastes :( I want to be environmentally conscious and support it but I just...don't like dwarves that much and the gnomes aren't what I'm looking for either. I hope they come out with more in the future!
I’m pretty sure they will
What factions would you like to see?
Sprue-cons, if you know, you know.
🔥🤘❤️
