This is so great. Inspiring to see someone bring this kind of passion and sharing their knowledge. Also, I can't believe how authentic you made the track sound. I feel like there must be some late 70s vinyl b-side in a crate somewhere that sounds exactly like this :)
Your sound is perfect; growing up as a very young kid in the late 70's and then into the 80's, dub was a staple in my musical diet. Fascinating how all those parts come together to make that magnificent sound. I only really started hearing about tape delay around 5 years ago; and never made the connection between it and the music. I'll go in with fresh ears now. Thanks for the 'behind the music' explanation.
God damn it this is cool man...I've seen a bunch of sick stuff on your channel but this just takes it off the cliff for me. Legit, you can do ANYTHING! This sounds like legit dub roots reggae! So damn good!
I’m sad I sold my Juno-60 because it didn’t have midi or Cv/gate. I should have held on to it. It sounds so good. Glad I kept my RE-201. This has inspired me to start using it again.
I love the old spring, plate reverbs. Did i hear some Vangelis in there (mode 3):D Feedback. Most underrated feature of any box. really great for getting the most wacky sounds by making software and hardware "bug-out" and hopefully not crash :P Finally some cow bell!
bro you're so on point in every genre i can't even compliment you and thank you for your presence enough, ever teaching oracle the one and only synth mania
In 1978, my parents bought me a Roland Sytem 100 for my 21st birthday, and I really wanted one of these, but couldn't afford it. As a compromise my grand parents bought me an AKAI 4000DS reel to reel which I used as an echo unit to great effect
I'm not lucky or rich enough to have 1 of those old Roland Space Echo machines, but I have the next best thing - a Boss Re20 Space Echo pedal. I like it, it's good fun to use and it does a great job of emulating the Roland machine. I also like playing dub reggae with mine, it just has that vibe and does it better than any other echo/delay pedal I've ever used. 👍
Oh, man, is that a time machine in every sense of the word haha!!! Gotta smile at all the stuff going through my mind when I hear this like this on it's own. No physical time travel though hehe! :D
This must be fate! You chose to upload this video and I just ordered a RE-201 from Japan a couple days ago! It was meant to be!!! Oh and great stuff as always! (Did I use enough exclamation marks?)
apart from the demo of the delay it's a perfect tutorial on how to do dub and a nice groove! strangely enough there is dub techno nowadays that's house instead of reggae-based. very nice too. i guess it's called "DUB" because you play around with the overdubs but I've always wondered about that
HI - as usual, good content and details. One question though: as the "instrument" input is most probably expecting a guitar (low signal), how do you set volumes up when feeding it a synth? I might assume you don't have the Juno-60 to full volume (which actually would recommended, as there's the most SNR). Is there any modification in the RE-201 to have it work with line level input? Thanks for taking time and explaining shortly.
Impressive stuff Paolo! I wish I could be as multi-talented with instruments as you are. A quick question though, is there any way to replicate a space echo effect on a digital effects processor that doesn't have the option? Perhaps a combination of delay and reverb in serial with each other?
Thank you! Yes, all you need is spring reverb and tape echo emulations. If it doesn't have them, you can emulate spring by eq'ing out the highs from a digital reverb, and tape echo using filter cutoff on the repeats of a digital delay
Nice job man! I felt like I was listening to some Bob Marley. Now you just have to sing on the track. Keep up the great work. I like the Roland RE-201. It has some crazy effects. :) Take care and have a great week. Sam.
Tape delay is so underrated i used a modern delay up until about 3 weeks ago and the difference in production is crazy they have so much life
This is so great. Inspiring to see someone bring this kind of passion and sharing their knowledge. Also, I can't believe how authentic you made the track sound. I feel like there must be some late 70s vinyl b-side in a crate somewhere that sounds exactly like this :)
Simon, thank you very much for the kind comments, yes, the RE-201 is truly a classic

The endless echoes at 02:41 are lovely.
Love the saturation it added sometimes too, especially with the organ.
Really great video all around. Your talent not only shines obviously, but you also k ow your gear well. That Space Echo demo is awesome.
Brilliant! Love your skill, your energy and positivity. Waiting for more videos... :)
Danko, thank you! Yes, I try to post every day or every few days.
What a fantastic sounding machine, just beautiful.
God damn it this is cool man...I've seen a bunch of sick stuff on your channel but this just takes it off the cliff for me. Legit, you can do ANYTHING! This sounds like legit dub roots reggae! So damn good!
Man, that sounds so tight. Two of the best hardware pieces right there.
I've learnt lots from watching your superb 👌 videos and tutorials
Thank you so much 😀
Awesome. Still sounds great after so many years.
Impressive machine, and very cool and entertaining teaching with lots of knowledge. Thank you.
Man your collection of gear is so impressive. Worthy of a museum. Thx for another informative video. 👍

oh wow that sounds phenomenal! I didn't want that demo to end lol
Excellent demo. That Juno 60 is sooooo 80s synth pop!
Very nice demo and showing the mixing. Great!
i like this Paolo, the way you just made a decent track from a combo of stuff you had lying about plus some nice gear of course. Very creative,
perhaps the gratest thing what roland brought out!!!
That analog sound on efx.....You are my hero bro !
Such a magnificent piece of equipment..
80'S Forever Paolo Amazing

Torai, thank you very much!
I def hear some early breakbeat and jungle flavors. That box authored a lot of that music from the Ragga Dub vein. Awesome 🤙🏽
I'm 19, been saving for one of these I wish I got to own one of these in its time! I'm going for an electric / analogue hybrid set up now
electric / analogue? what do you mean?
i think he means digital/analog
I had a juno 60 back in the mid 80'snd I still have the program tape for that.
That was fun! Gotta love them FX

Very cool! I hope you kept both :)
I'm definitely going to have to add one of these puppies to my synth arsenal one day. Thanks for reminding me how good this thing sounds. :)
upvote for the raga hat!
also, the demo was great :)
Thank you, Benjamin!
It's great for experimental/drone stuff too, I believe that Wata from the band Boris uses one of these
I could see wata using this. Its a dream piece of gear for experimental/ noise musicians.
Awesome Demo! Always wanted to know what the 201 sounded like! getting expensive to buy now everyone wants one!
If I could LIKE this a hundred times I would.. Love your content, thanks !
Talent+money==awesomeness
I find your videos so inspiring!
Thank you!
Nuff said! Excellent work
Thank you!
Some of these sounds would fit right into a Tame Impala song, very cool
brownpaste that's because Kevin Parker uses both of these pieces of gear
That's exactly what I was thinking!!
He uses a Juno-106, not a Juno-60. Not so sure about the Space Echo though.
@@raypark6013 used space echo on a few songs at least.

I really liked your song!
Thanks!
Nice demosong! I use this space echo on each track now. Good stuff!
excellent!

Thank *you for watching, Jill!
Siiim-ply... Haa-ving... a wonderful Christmas time!

good work , good vibes all
round , thank you.:-)
Thank *you!
Dude, that thing is really cool. I wish you had opened it up so we could see inside it.
Oh, man, is that a time machine in every sense of the word haha!!! Gotta smile at all the stuff going through my mind when I hear this like this on it's own. No physical time travel though hehe! :D
Nice. The Boss RE20 does a nice replication of the 201, fun to have and use the vintage though 🙂.
We love you man🙏❤️
These are the two main parts Kevin Parker uses to get his sound on tame impalas Lonerism!
When the Two Sevens clash.
very good work - my friend
Love the space echo! 👽👍
I remember Steve Winwood from the 80's being credited with playin all the instruments on his album ...that seemed pretty cool back then.
this guy must be LOADED
Instant vintage vibe!
A de 2:40, on a le son de confirmation dans le menu d'une Sega dreamcast :D
perfect demo
Thanks for a great video!
Glad you liked it!

Were you happy with your purchase?
@@aquamarine99911 too busy in delay heaven to answer lol
Pure genius. Sounds just like Scientists, aka Overton Brown. Top notch dub.
Thank you
its so simple, yet so complete. you can literally just throw a drum track on it and you have a tune.
sounds really cool, i have the RE:3 digital space echo :)
at 3:38 it sound like ''Wonderful Christmas Time'' from Paul McCartney!!!
Because it is
+mikosoft - Well, almost!
this song always creaps me out. its so strange. like an IT version of a christmas song.
Dreamcast menu sound as well.

Hold on let me call " Scientist "
Wow, that was cool!
I love it!!
Thank you
Used by Lee Scratch Perry, Scientist, Peter Chemist,
Righteous.
Hello, I'd love to see you try and recreate a 70's german Cluster style sound, especially the album Zuckerzeit.
I peep that TEAC 80-8 on the floor!
Good catch :)
@@SynthManiaDotCom I love mine, too bad the relay on my cards started to go. Now I got a pretty heavy paper weight!
I like how every time the knob is turned you hear the echo it makes.
_clickickickickick..._
equipamento sensacional
Yeah man!
Hey, man! You good play pattern on drums!!!
Nice dub man’s doing🤙
Oh thats where all the cool gear went .
awesome
Luv It!
It's magic!
I'm here because Line 6 Helix emulating this effect :)

that organ though
this was fucking awesome
Do you still recommend it over newer tape delay units etc.? Any thing in particular one should be aware of when buying one?

perfect dub machine
wow your synthesizers sound cool how many do you have ?
The reverb sounded great...though I think the memory man is a modern equivalent
how often do you have to replace the tape after it gets worn out?
300 hours+
thank you!
this is THE dub effect. i hear it all over scientist's stuff.
i wrote this comment before i got to the dub part haha yes!! cheers, nice video!
