It's because hawk very often hunting rattlesnakes. That's why he was scared of him. It was his instinct for surviving. Plus he can have some bad history with him (his missing part of the tail)

@@isdrakon9802 Compared to most chameleons a diamondback rattlesnake IS a monolithic being. While some of the creatures are a tad small for what they are, they really did do an amazing job in this movie. A shame its not more widely known. Johnny Depp and Bill Nighy are an incredible duo. No matter the movie they are in.
What's crazier is that my uncle's common pet snake would destroy Jake. California King Snakes are immune to rattlesnake venom, and often eat them. Your average house snake could easily kill one of the best snakes in fiction.
0:17 whats funny is that rattlesnake venom (like any venom) is only dangerous if it enters your bloodstream. Assuming Rango doesn't have a cut in his mouth or something he probably could've drank that entire shot glass and been completely fine.
something i love about Jake is the fact his anger is kinda justified, Rango had been basically sullying his name and reputation claiming their brothers to a gunslinger like Jake that's the ultimate insult, using his name and reputation to basically boost his own reputation is dishonorable, its why i love how they part ways, Rango honored his promise in ending this all with one bullet saving both the town from jake, and Jake from the Mayor Rango never had to do that, he could have shot jake but instead he chose the girl, which is honorable and as cold and cruel as Jake is, he respects honor
Ironically drinking his venom probably wouldn't have hurt Rango at all unless he had some stomach ulcers. But the intimidation factor probably would stop most folks from even trying
@@artsiefan3385 I've got you, random stranger. Most venoms generally aren't toxic unless exposed to the bloodstream and tissues where they do all their damage. Dissolving them namely. So if you had an ulcer, you'd be in for some trouble.

Honestly one of the coolest villain aesthetics & personalities I've ever seen and to this day this is still one of my favorite movies & villain. I especially love the short but powerful character arc Rattlesnake Jake has on his perspective of Rango
I like that Jake plays the role as an honorable OG outlaw, who was simply enraged that someone was bringing shame to the act, he makes play and stage references and even makes oneliners on que, i like this guy, clearly an A++ in drama and nothing else
Before we had Death from Puss in Boots we had him. They both - originally hate the main character because they think the MCs are frauds and undeserving of what they have - come to respect the MC after they show their bravery at the climax - personifications of death/devil - low amount of scenes but everyone remembers them - incredibly badass peak animation villians
"Or by all the fires in the black pit, I'll squeeze them pretty brown eyes outta yer skull!" Probably one of his more underrated lines. Jake was a legendary kind of evil.
Anyone else notice that Jake didn’t smile or smirk when Rango was interrupted? Usually these devilish villain types are smug about their backup protecting them, but Jake is a man of honor and respect. Rango earned his respect with that stare down.
Jake and death are two great villains that aren't true villains, they hate that the main character is just so smug and once the main characters develop to be more humble they let them live there life
He was my favorite part of the movie love him and his desig. He’s so intimidating and just fun to look at The way he moves and the way his gun tail moves is amazing
A fantastic detail Ive noticed is that at 5:11 Jake stutters in absolute shock. For once, the gun has been pulled on *him.* By none other than the wimp he previously scared out of town. This wasn’t enough to scare him, of course, though the “try me” definitely was.
Rattlesnake Jake reminds me a lot of Death from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. A truly menacing villain in a mostly lighthearted setting that is as cruel as he is formidable but is shown to have his own set of principles and twisted sense of honor.
Same here. But I can't say Death matches him at his personality. Death was cruel, but he only did it because Puss angered him. In general I think Death is a nice guy who feels pitty for those who he takes with him. I don't think Jake can match that. But yeah, Jake does remind me a lot of Death.
2:09 This is my favorite scene of Jake. The soft but commanding tone that crescendos as you slithers around Rango culminating with throwing him towards the crowd; who, in turn, part. Leaving Rango one path towards the sunset, or WEST.
I love that Jake did not just stand on the trap, he saw it and tried to escape instead of just "oh well, time to wait for it instead of try to get away."

@@EvaEsteraif we are to assume the roadrunners or boar are of normal size (probably not but...) then jake would actually be fucking giant for a rattler
Yea imagine walking through a trail and coming across a rattlesnake which is deadly enough but then you notice the tail is a fucking mini gun
I like how despite Rattlesnake Jake being an infamous gunslinger and the most feared man in the Mojave desert, he's still afraid of something, that something being the Hawk.
It's because hawk very often hunting rattlesnakes. That's why he was scared of him. It was his instinct for surviving. Plus he can have some bad history with him (his missing part of the tail)
Makes you wonder how many close calls jake had with hawks to be deathly terrified.
@@NoWayJose24 That's probably why his rattle is a gun.
Anyone would be scared of a giant flying creature a dozen times their size.
Damn, the amount of detail is insane, when jake gets checked by gunpoint, he is filled with terror and kept his eyes trained on that revolver until it was uncocked and holstered. This Movie Rocks
I always forget that these are animals, so they are actually tiny compared to us. Funny to watch this movie considering that fact 🤣
They did a good job with scaling, turning an average snake into monolithic force that rumbles the ground
@@metaknight115 yes, but is he immune to bullets?
0:17 whats funny is that rattlesnake venom (like any venom) is only dangerous if it enters your bloodstream. Assuming Rango doesn't have a cut in his mouth or something he probably could've drank that entire shot glass and been completely fine.
It would have probably tasted like extremely salty vodka

Awwww....yeah.. 😌 Well done for the ovservants.
04:04 I think this chuckle is pretty underrated. Just a small one, but it just sounds so right for Jake. Bill, you amazing bastard, you.
something i love about Jake is the fact his anger is kinda justified, Rango had been basically sullying his name and reputation claiming their brothers
to a gunslinger like Jake that's the ultimate insult, using his name and reputation to basically boost his own reputation is dishonorable, its why i love how they part ways, Rango honored his promise in ending this all with one bullet saving both the town from jake, and Jake from the Mayor
Rango never had to do that, he could have shot jake but instead he chose the girl, which is honorable and as cold and cruel as Jake is, he respects honor
Rattling Gun is one hell of a design. My inner-kid is screaming
Ironically drinking his venom probably wouldn't have hurt Rango at all unless he had some stomach ulcers.
But the intimidation factor probably would stop most folks from even trying
Explain hiw
@@artsiefan3385 I've got you, random stranger. Most venoms generally aren't toxic unless exposed to the bloodstream and tissues where they do all their damage. Dissolving them namely. So if you had an ulcer, you'd be in for some trouble.
@@a.w.r3311 As a follow up, there are some venoms that are acidic enough to burn holes through contact but most are only dangerous if they reach the bloodstream. Some cultures even deliberately ingest venom since they tend to be full of protein.
@@a.w.r3311 thank youu!!
@@a.w.r3311 So someone with ulcerative colitis wouldn't be able to drink venom? Or would the process of it previously being in the stomach change that somehow?

Probably one of his more underrated lines. Jake was a legendary kind of evil.
Anyone else notice that Jake didn’t smile or smirk when Rango was interrupted? Usually these devilish villain types are smug about their backup protecting them, but Jake is a man of honor and respect. Rango earned his respect with that stare down.
Jake and death are two great villains that aren't true villains, they hate that the main character is just so smug and once the main characters develop to be more humble they let them live there life
That was my first thought when i saw the death in puss in boots
I'm having a feeling that the writer uses Rattlesnake Jake as one of the reference for Death. Straight up sadist, but with honor
That would make him and Death the only TRUE antagonists in a cartoon.
That stupid wolf is so overrated I cannot wait for people to shut up about him
What an absolutely spectacular antagonist.
He was my favorite part of the movie love him and his desig. He’s so intimidating and just fun to look at
The way he moves and the way his gun tail moves is amazing

When you bring your grandpa with ptsd to an air show
A fantastic detail Ive noticed is that at 5:11 Jake stutters in absolute shock. For once, the gun has been pulled on *him.* By none other than the wimp he previously scared out of town. This wasn’t enough to scare him, of course, though the “try me” definitely was.

Jake gives off that feeling of death and I love that about him
Rattlesnake Jake reminds me a lot of Death from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
Making Rattlesnake Jake's rattlers into multiple gun cylinders is actually very clever, whoever came up with that idea is a genius.
