Really good! It’s been a while since I saw the movie but it’s a funny isekai-esque look on identity and being a hero. Also, this won the Oscar (though tbf, the Best Animated Feature category was dire, despite Tintin being robbed of a nomination).

    • @jordangan3246

Speaking of which, you should watch The Adventures of Tintin (which I grew up with). It was released in the same year, directed by Spielberg, VFX by Weta and Peter Jackson, and is very Indiana Jones-esque. I grew up with the original comics so this comes highly recommended from me.

This movie was done by ILM the VFX company behind all the Star Wars movies, it was their 1st animated movie. If you look closely there's a few references to movies they've done, like the pics Rango makes during the campfire scene. And how one of the bats crashes, it mimics how one of the ships crashes during the trench attack in Star Wars A New Hope ;)

When I was in high school (many years before this movie was made), I had a classmate named Jake that everyone called "Jake the Snake", or just "Snake". It was customary to greet him by asking "how's it going, Snake?" The funny thing was that he was the least "snake-like" person imaginable as he was big and bulky (he played on the offensive line in football) and incredibly cheerful, laid back and good-natured (he kind of looked and acted like a high school age John Candy). The first time I saw this movie, I couldn't help thinking "how's it going, Snake?" every scene that Rattlesnake Jake was in...

Kids are a lot smarter and more capable of understanding things than adults often want to give them credit for. I'm not saying that they'd all pick up on and understand everything in this movie, but this is how movies for kids should be written. Talking to them, not down at them

Rattlesnake Jake is one of the best villains ever, and it's the voice of Davey Jones too

Rango names himself. Before he enters that bar he is literally the man with no name.

4:25 I just realized that the metaphor the armadillo is talking about is death. I mean Obviously I knew it later in the movie but I didn’t realize that he was referring to it that way so early in the movie, I just got that.

Only thing that could have made this better is having Clint Eastwood actually being the Spirit of the West. Sadly for some reason they didn't get him to do so. I mean he did a fun cameo in the film Casper I dunno why they couldn't have him voice The Spirit of the West.
