You're right, this is how I feel on my GS lol And your comment about hands being too close together is how I feel whenever I've sat on a sport bike. Have yet to ride one. Ride safe!

Hello Randomly, the good news is that I adjusted with seat time. After some hours you will be as comfortable on your GS as your Mighty DR650.
I never could adjust to the bars though, and replaced them with a straighter, wider pair. Made a world of difference. - Frank
