12:09 was so impressive!! I used to do tail slides when I skated more often before 2010. Just started skating again a couple years ago, and really got back into it this summer with my brother before I turned 39. My goal for 2024 is to get a solid tail slide (for me maybe more than a couple feet) I was able to get a mini few inch tail slide back on the 4th and “felt” the slide! Was so stoked, had been over a decade since so felt that feeling. This video gives me hope for at least a couple feet long slide!
13:50 Totally agree on that view of skating. I love the tinkering on the board with what the environment has to offer. I think looking into the "athletics" of skateboarding has been huge for my improvement on the board and I think helped expand how creative I can be. I started it up as a hobby almost 4 years ago while overweight and in the the last year I came to the conclusion that I want to improve, a lot, and I feel like I could; but my body wasn't catching up to how fast I was grasping the concepts on the board mentally. I've seen so much more on-board improvement by training my body off-board and the tinkering has been more fun because of it. I do look at the skatepark as like a gym and that it's for training, but I have so much fun in the gym jamming to music and improving, similarly to skateboarding, that I never don't have fun doing either; at least in the moment. Sometimes I do loathe getting ready and going to the gym or the park, but being there I almost usually have fun. Unless I get hurt-hurt lol. Guess what I'm trying to say is if your skateboarding and not having fun, maybe its not really skateboarding anymore.
I’m an old-school skater so I love my deck rails and they do make it easier plus keeps the graphic nicer keep killing it
Cheater… jk
Remember nose guards, tail blocks and copers? Useless. 😂
@@himebaughchris4026 if it doesn’t cause or catch fire I don’t want it
There called rails. NOT deck rails. Always been that way always will be. Rails. Thats it. Ur not that old school if you call them deck rails.
Yeah but it just looks kinda ugly imo on the board
The face he pulled when the guy interrupted him at 3:45 is priceless!
😂😂😂
I like the rebellion ways and your totally right about the aspect of street skating brother💯
Duuuuuuuude that tailslide heelflip out was so sick 😮😮🔥
I had such a bad day but all the stress and anger was gone when i was wachting ur video. Love your content for years now, u keep me rollin even its not easy with work and stuff like this. Much love
the tailslide flip out was sick af. ngl I'm content with skating my local park. I respect street skating but weekend sessions at the local are a blast
John that tailslide heelflip was exceptional, sir! I've been a fan for years and when I hear you're in the hospital, I can't help but feel concerned...I hope all is well sooner than later!
I'm sending healing vibes :)
John, I just wanted to say that I love your videos! They always inspirate me to go skate and try new things! I'm glad you recovered from hospital and hope everything is fine! Keep killin'it!
I'm going to teach you something about those rails the closer you put them towards the middle and less towards the edges the less drag you'll have the easier it is to pop off of shit. And it'll slide a lot better A lot of people like to put them right on the edge of the airport put them right on the underneath the inside of your wheels so there's less surface area the farther you spread them apart the more drag
Hope you’re healthy man. I’m going thru a Crohn’s disease diagnosis at the moment and skating is so hard. Stay healthy!
bro wanna be Mr. Beast so bad
@@fueg00nyxxx mr beast? Why?
@@Sk8Comeback i was just joking cause Mr. Beast has Crohns disease
@@fueg00nyxxx yeah I googled mr beast & Crohn’s… cos I couldn’t work out why you said it… highly doubt he has it mate. He looks pretty healthy. And he’s a pretty rich so he’s going to be fine.
Yo bro, I actually thank you for that… I didn’t know. Just done a little bit of digging. I’m still a little unsure if he ACTUALLY has Crohn’s as to get it at 15 is absurd. But damn… good to know as I can do with all the help I can get atm. Stay healthy 👊
Calling rails cheating is no different from calling wax cheating
Edit : if skateboarding is about doing whatever you want and expressing yourself how is there even cheating
took the words out of my mouth. amen
Wax is cheating
But wax is actually necessary sometimes whereas rails will never be a necessity ..
Taking footage you took of your friend doing a trick off a skyscraper over a helicopter on to another skyscraper and then passing it off as your own clip then going pro off of it is cheating.
@@skateboardiouscontext?
Hands down one of one favorite skaters to watch and learn from! You freaking shred man
broooo the last tailslide heelflip out was PROFESSIONAL
I couldn’t agree more with what you said about street skating being the essence of skateboarding. I feel out of place every time I go to a park but street spots and parking lots feel just like home
Love the music in this one! Thanks for the awesome videos
Nice video man your enthusiasm is awesome. I miss living in Northern California but I guess getting back on the board is better anywhere then nowhere
I am a beginner skater at 53 just learned ollie and I have to say, when I go for walks I look at everything much differently now that I skate, I look at stairs ledges, curbs and ask myself, is that skateable? to funny how your perceptions change as your obsessions change.
100% dude. you'll never look at anything the same again. it's a beautiful thing only skaters understand. Good shit on learning ollie's it a milestone for sure
Nice job ❤ how long did it take you
@@RagingRopeVlogs Well I have been skating for a year now but I am still learning!
@@VintageSk8nice❤
Literally one of the coolest videos I’ve ever seen
12:40 the jazzy ending on that tail side was DEFINITELY the cherry on top 👌👌👌
Love this spot! Front tail heel flip was so sick
Wasssup John Hill!!
Recently started watching you again and watching the old vlogs from 2016-2018
Man those bring me back 🥲
Keep Killing It!!!
def not cheating. i like that they slide more consistently/predictably and distribute the weight/force so i'm less likely to break boards on a rail/lip slide.
So cheating
My favorite genre of skater is the bushingless truck and missing screws deck rail guy. That shit SLAPS!
Yess love your content John!
11:12 😮 whoa, that looked crazy
Yeah dude, you earned that Like. Going faster made that tailslide look REAL nice. Happy to hear you’re going to be exploring more. That’s the good stuff. Rock on.
Love this type of videos! Keep killing it, John! You are too good!🔝🫶🏻
Awesome frontside tailslide
This was probably my favorite video of yours in a while. You absolutely crushed it at this spot and I could tell how exhausted and relieved you were afterwards
Sick video! BTW what camera are you using because that picture quality is amazing. Flawless
congrats on the coming soon baby brother I just had my first ob appointment today tomorrow is first ultrasound
You are so good John thank you for constantly putting out videos that motivate me to get better on the board and be better in general!
feels like he's just getting better with every video crazy dude
Unrelated but just wanted to say it would be cool if you did a learning transition series
That tailslide heelflip was bonkers. Incredible.
Is there a skate trick John can’t make look easy😂❤
so awesome bro
awesome, i enjoy watching street skating much more, always fun to watch you
That tailslide was awesome... and then the heelflip out?! Insane man
That tailslide heeflip was CRAZY 😮😮😮
Too cool Jhon, sliding the edges until the end 🛹♥️🔥🇧🇷🤘🏻🤘🏻
, that’s what I’m talking about good skating Killing it
What’s slicker, rails or the slick decks from the 90’s? I didn’t like the slick decks. I actually liked the bit of resistance from the wood.
Love this video!
You’ve gotta get a video part together and USE that kickflip back smith 😱
I was waiting for the squirrel to get right up to the lens lol
smith flip was super buttery on the bench.
just listened to the pod with dale on it and no idea mr. hill was once on birdhouse. that is cool
man im happy to hear a populare youtube skater like you say that the "athletic sport culture" in skateboarding is taking a away from the root essence of what skateboarding is as a whole. I hear a lot of people buck back against that concept and say it's gatekeeping whatever whatever. but nah its just lame, skateboarding to me will always be about reinterpreting your surroundings to be skateable and fun. not about sports drinks, corporate sponsers, and tricks being tied to points on a board
just skate to have fun man, it's a good feeling to learn new tricks
i really enjoi the video. greetings from mexico. and proops for the fs tail slide heelflip out
Hi John. Thank you for the entertainment
I love your videos! And the iron giant deck 🔥
Sick tailslide heelflip! Lil flip bs smith was also proper
Why were you in hospital? Hope you're good bro
it's interesting to see how bigger, wider boards (people out here saying 8.5" is skinny? lol) and rails have made a massive comeback, it's weird, i don't know where or when this happened but it's cool to see. I can only see it as a very large part of the skateboarding community are now in their late 30's and 40's and just straight chilling, curb skating slappies cruising etc is just a way to keep riding at our age and we're seeing that in board size/style trends. idk, i could be way off.
When i used to skate more than a decade ago the most common sizes were around 7.5-7.75 and 8 were very much outliers, anythinng above that was almost unheard off unless you skated pool or ramps. Nowadays 8 seems the minum people go for. For sure interesting to see the change or recurrence of trends.
If ledges have big chunks or skate stoppers you can't really skate over them with rails. It'll rip them right off but sometimes rails help🤷♂️ so there are advantages n disadvantages
I hope you know that a lot of us deeply resonate with what you said at the end there. Thanks for keeping that message alive
YESSSSSS! More LA street skateboarding! 🔥
The hoody is fire, any update on merch releases?
go back to the ledge spot with a filmer and have him follow you for the tail slide heel flip it would look sick for a video part.
Best video clip 🔥
The Legendary John Hill. ❤️🔥♾️🍀
I’m not gonna lie same John last night my mindset has changed some bad news changed my whole perspective and mindset
Use to think of it as a egotistical way now I relized just enjoy your life no need to push to be the best of the best no reason to get out your comfort zone
Matt Kennelly has me wanting to grab a pair
Damn hope you’re all good health wise, John.
Great work as ALWAYS @johnhill
Sick FS tail 🍷
You have to accept what and who you are .Dont fight it knkw who you are and then progress from there. Your good homie
Rails are only cheating if distance grinded matters. Like wax, it's just allowing the board to move better. Doing a trick with rails or not doesn't make the actual trick easier, just reduces friction
That fs tail heel flip out was just insane
Glad you are doing better. Stay healthy.
nice slides bro
What size thunders do you ride
Mucha salud en tu vida.
This is a good video! I’m surprised it doesn’t have more views!
This is a great vid🔥🔥🔥
its funny those plastic rails are used to help grinding. i just finished a recommended video from some rollerblader saying how rollerbladers need to use more wax (and thus ruin skate spots) because theyre sliding plastic on concrete which doesnt slide as well as wood or metal. guess he was full of it lol
Street John 2024!
i posted a video making DIY deck rails out of uhmwpe cutting board. they're actually really nice.
Good video
Fire🔥🔥
respect
Yes. Yes, they do. But the fully through mounting bolts are better than them tiny wood screws. Some Gorilla Glue added helps too. I hope your health meter is back up also.
Tail heel out was for video part
Thx for the tips also how many tricks do i need to know to go pro
at least 2
@@ppaatthhmaybe 3 just to be sure
🔥
Yeah!! That's what's up!! We want to see the street spots!! That spot is literally so damn amazing that it looks 10X better than any skatepark anyway. And no scooter kids or kooks R there. Lol....and I agree with what U say about athleticism. That being said, whether U realize it or not, YOUR body is a fine tuned ATHLETIC body, just cuz U skate so much. And it IS a physical activity (very rigorous, at that,) whether U want that label as an athlete or not. U R a skater first. U R also an athlete because U R a skater.
If I want to get an old school board, where is the best place to get one?
Can you go to Lewisville skatepark
I hope you and Sara and family are ok. Life is a journey.
Good as video ❤🔥🔥🔥🔥
I remember having culpers and plastic tails and plastic nose and your skateboard had everything on it it was still a toy with everything on it
What deck is u using
He has progressed daily and therefore is now killing it 🧐😳🤯
how do i get that sweatshirt? Your website doesnt have it
Where’s this spot?
You’re really good at sk8ing
