      Fun fact: the KNS piston for the short ACE is already external adjustable. Since the piston is so short, you can just pull the charging handle all the way back and adjust it from the ejection port. 🤠

      I recommend trying this gun with a Krinkov-style muzzle device. The cone at the end serves the purpose of directing muzzle blast downrange in addition to hiding flash. There's a reason it's designed the way it is. It also cuts down on muzzle rise. You can also try a muzzle brake that comes with a blast can to send the muzzle blast forwards. The blast can will also capture the sideways flash so you the shooter won't see it. I had one of those on a 7.62x39 AR and it worked great.

    7.62x39 and .300 Blackout are functionally identical rounds. They have the same trajectory and same velocities (within ~50 FPS) using the same bullet weights and barrel lengths. Both are available in 123-grain supersonic and 220-grain subsonic (Brown Bear made 220 grain 7.62x39, as do other companies), as well as 90-grain. And 123-grain (an oddly specific weight if you're making a whole new cartridge, but the most common weight for 7.62x39) is the most common supersonic bullet weight for both. While almost no one will admit it, the true point of .300 Blackout is to mimic 7.62x39 in a cartridge that more reliably feeds in the AR15. This is proven by the simple fact that they maintain nearly identical velocities at the same bullet weights and barrel lengths, across the board. Someone figured out 7.62x39 subsonic performs well and decided to copy it.

    • @ericdiesch7591
      @ericdiesch7591 6 месяцев назад +1

      Been saying this for years.

    • @wigon
      @wigon 6 месяцев назад +10

      Nope. This is not true. As someone who fires a lot of 7.62x39 and .300 blackout, while the terminal ballistics and velocities are very similar, .300 blackout has slightly less recoil and slightly lower muzzle velocities than 7.62x39. However it also has a better bullet design that gives the round a superior bullet coefficient resulting in a more accurate round at 300 meters. Both subsonic and supersonic rounds are also optimized to shoot well out of short barrels. So they create less wear and tear on an AR bolt assembly group compared to a short-barreled 5.56mm. I know because I have both a 7" 5.56mm upper and a 7" .300 blackout upper. Also the .300 blk round was developed because 7.62x39mm rarely worked reliably in AR platforms. So overall, I while I do LOVE my AK-47 and SKS rifles, I found the .300 Blk round to be superior in short barreled rifles in terms of less recoil and much less muzzle flash due to the faster burning powders used in most commercial.300 blackout rounds. So I'll keep shooting my full size AKs and SKS's, but for home defense CQB, .300 blackout 110 grain V-max rounds from a 7" barreled AR is absolutely devastating. They also make for an extremely compact and lightweight hog hunting firearm.

      @@wigon You're about16? Nothing you've said makes sense. 2 identical rounds out of identical barrel lengths moving at the same velocity would have nearly identical recoil impulses. Muzzle flash has nothing to do with the projectile, and more to do with the type of powder. Vmax bullets are interesting, but why would you want a thin skinned varmint round out of a short barrel? Vmax require a certain velocity to expand. Does a 7 in barrel achieve that? Doubtful.

    Im running the 8.3 with a DeadAir Sandmam and adjustable KNS piston. Very very very rarely have had any sub sonics been through it, but, the Sandman paired with the E-brake mitigates flash from super sonics all day long.
    Even without the E-brake, I'd get a small burp of flash with the first round from time to time. But, that Dead Air can is an absolute life saver.
    Super impressed with that can.
    Even though the KNS piston can be adjusted from the ejection port, it would be awesome to have an adjustable block to make for quick and easy adjustments on the fly. I like the idea of being able to see numbers on a block that i can turn to knowing exactly what each number is dialed for... holding the bolt open and adjusting the piston 3 clicks this way or 2 that way isnt that fun. That being said, i dont see myself in a position where im going from subs to supers while running and gunning... but that option is definitely doable and something I'd like for the "just in case" factor.

    I've owned an Arsenal Sam7K with 8.5" barrel for many years. It's lived it's entire life mostly suppressed with a Dead Air Wolverine. It was still flashy with supersonic Russian ammo so I put an Ebrake on it. It now resembles an m4 with bird cage flash hider for flash reference. It served as a stand in 300 BLK for me. Russian brown bear subsonic ammo sounds and runs great with this combo, and I saw no reason to buy 300blk. I've never installed a kns piston in this, and it runs perfectly super Sonic suppressed or not, as well as subsonic. Only need to change the magazine. The milled reciever and metallurgy of all the parts have worn in as well or better than my Russian AK's and Galil Ace gen 2. The Sam7k series guns I rank as among the best in quality for a non custom import gun after my experience with this one example. That said, I bought an mcx in 300blk when the ammo ban happened. 300blk is currently a better suppressor caliber. I could see that changing in the future, but the different loadings are to great and plentiful for x39 to compare currently. Also, an AR style gun is more quiet to my ears than an AK style gun. I enjoy super Sonic shooting from the Sam7k more than my 9" mcx though.

    • @RonJeremy514
      @RonJeremy514 6 месяцев назад

      From what I saw on a french channel called Klaim (former Gendarme, but not GIGN) testing the GIGN's BREN 2 SBR, it doesn't seem to have that mild of a felt recoil actually but it seems better still. He mostly complained throughout the video that the buttstock's rough edges and seam between the upper receiver and the folding stock part to be painfull but that can be fixed with a different positioning. At least it can be replaced but they are issued with those and no other modifications in the contract with CZ so there is that. Otherwise it behaves well for 7 meters shots (Mozambique drill and Alpha zone shot placements). Note: the BREN 2 has proprietary mags so it's not even better on the logistical aspect than AK mags. Except for 5.56 versions which are obviously standard but that's not the topic.

      @@RonJeremy514 I'll look it up. I shot it after leaving the military and moving to the industry as a R&D design and testing engineer, so I may have more experience than the average gendarme on managing assault rifles recoil (they mostly use HK UMP and sometimes MP5, G36 in some units, and normally have basic training on FAMAS)
      It was several years ago but I remember being surprised by the weight/recoil ratio. It is about the same size as an MP5 but spits massive fireballs through that vortex flash hider! Felt kind of snappy but absolutely not painful even though I was shooting prone (my HK MR308 can be painful in that position for instance)
      I got to compare the BREN805 and 5.56 BREN2 with accelerometers and the recoil impulse is just incredibly improved on the newer version, it is quite stunning (and feels so when shooting)
      I also shot several thousands rounds with preseries BREN2BR 16" (takes standard AR10 pattern mags BTW) and never had an issue with the stock, which I really like - it actually is a good part of the recoil taming part, since shooting the DMR 20" (also a few thousand rounds) with precision aluminium stock was a much less pleasant experience, despite the overall added weight. I actually am impatient for the BR to hit the shelves as it will be my next .308, it is simply that good.

    While the 300 blackout is slightly more efficient than 7.62x39 in terms of muzzle energy versus grains of powder used in the same barrel length with the same powder and bullets loaded to the same pressures, my 7.62x39 does get slightly higher muzzle velocities. When I step up to slightly slower powders that are better suited for 7.62x39 than 300 blackout, the gap widens.
    If you shoot enough that ammo cost matters, get a Dillon. Nowadays, the biggest incentive for me to use a blackout or Wilson x39 is the use of small primers and cheaper brass vs 7.62x39. 6 vs half dozen.

    From a design and development standpoint I think this is interesting, and honestly, the Ace with the ability to externally dial the gas to the desired performance isn't a bad idea.
    That said, and here is where I am going to piss someone off. I think the concept at least as presented, in practice, short of some sort of external quick adjust, isn't that useful. Obviously, the adjustment as presented is working prototype, but it would need to be able to quickly, without tools, get adjusted by the shooter, to at least meet the same performance that the 300blk can pull, which is to go from subs, to supers, with a mag change, which is really the selling point of the 300blk over an SMG in my mind. Having the short, and quiet sneaky subsonics, and then with a mag change, being able to push the engagement beyond that nominal 25-50 meters that most people see as the SMG's engagement range and reach out to the 150-200 meters with something with more than pistol performance.
    That said, I still am not sure where this would realistically be able to make headway when corrosive ammo is brought up into the discussion. As with the AK12 video, there is a definite issue that is possible with leaving the gun uncleaned with with the corrosive ammo out there(And I have to ask if the rust that appears on the rifle in the video is from that), and that ammo, in this scenario, is likely going to be more likely available than not. Now, obviously, remove that issue, and running the gun for several hundred, or even a few thousand rounds between detailed cleanings is really a non issue in my mind.
    I suppose the question in the end is there a large enough market for this in the Galil.

    I'm glad to see someone attempted what I've been eyeballing for a long time, and sad to see the result was the same. I've been looking at 7.62x39 as a cheap way to shoot faux .300 blackout subs without having to pay the absurd subsonic tax, for a long time. But because of Ukraine and the import ban on notRussian 7.62, that dream has been in the grave.
    The result I came to was that if I wanted a lightweight, controllable, PDW that I could shoot cheaply and quietly, I was looking at having to get a PCC. Because if I went the rifle route of running .300 blackout, I'd be handloading my own subsonics anyway. And with PCC's, its still considerably cheaper for me to make my own funky projectiles that approach the level of God's goofiest soldier of commercial .308 projectiles, than to load straight .300 blk.

    • @echofoxtrotwhiskey1595

Speaking for everyone, we'll totally buy the heck out of a replacement gas block (and a front sight combo block) and although I hate the idea of clamp on gas blocks, to be commercially viable for the average at home Smith, it's probably gonna hafta be. I just don't know if it can come to market at a price point where it would sell well. Heck, I don't even know how to price my own work in this new economy.

    Basically, Henry & Josh applied as much lipstick to the pig as possible to get it to sorta approach what a good 300blk weapon can do……but……it can’t switch ammo type without adjusting the gas AND you still have the possible wandering zero due to how optics mount, proving AK type weapons are still pigs. I think AKs are just best left as simple weapons or just entirely ignored.
