What were they thinking, the original sao series was so much better. I loved the idea of unlimited skills, interactive npcs, custom swords and sword skills, if they could make that a game it would be amazing
For everyone saying they need to make the first arc of SAO into a game, that's how the new game looks, just altered slightly. But the camera on this game isn't difficult to handle either, but from the looks of the gameplay, it must be soooo complex for some players. You don't really need to overdo the camera movement, not moving it while fighting is the best use of the camera to reduce disorientation. You were fair to the game, but the story without side events isn't so bad despite being non canon. It just needed to be done more like the original series to keep the Sao game LIKE the series. Lastly, I can understand that there is no reason for constant flirting. Kirito, your married to a attractive girl. All that needs to be said. Well done Lost Song too with the Yuuki part, I love that part of the series 2.
The reasons why today’s Anime games don’t have English voices now because Bandai dropped out the R1 anime distribution industry years ago, which is where they pulled in most of their voices for the video games division. Today they only dub the games that are expected to pull in a large amount of profit like anything from the Tales franchise.
Should have guessed they would give it a bad rating :P Honestly, this game is actually pretty damn good, especially when compared to most releases these days. I've been playing it non-stop for the past 3 days, so it is pretty damn good. I'm by no means a "SAO fan" but this game does a lot right in the game. I enjoy the gameplay and even half-assing it have had no issues with the targeting/camera in the game. All i have to say is:"Finally, some AI that know how to res and when you die it isn't Game Over!". It never made sense to me in a game if you died or got KO'd that it had to be game over, even if your allies are still fighting and are capable of bringing your character back. As for the campaign it took me roughly 9hrs to burn through on Hard mode, which is long when you think about how most games only take about 4-6 on their hardest difficulty. So to call the story paper thin is a joke to say the least. :P Overall this game more than deserves a 7 for non-fans and an 8 if you are one.
Everyone out playing Lost Song, and I'm here, making a Japanese PSN account and getting Senran Kagura Estival Versus cuz I can't wait for an import or for the US release.
Remy Dolce I had to buy a PSN Yen card from Play-Asia. I bought a 10,000¥ for $90 bucks and its a Digital Code. Make an account first, and then purchase it so you don't have trouble with all the signing up.
1) use the damn targeting feature on winged creatues 2) learn to stop in mid flight or even take off the wings and use the L to reset camera angle to face the front of chara even if he/she's facing backwards towards the enemy while ur looking the other way. Flying is fun but only if you make the most out of it. 2.5) Nothing but offensive skills on the hotkey settings? Put something else to balance the character. Cuz it's obvious if you look in the options, kirito isn't meant to do much with those basic elemental offensive skills. Just do the de/buff skills. Grinding skills also got way easier but there's less reward and satisfaction out of it compared to unlocking skills in Hollow Fragment. 3) pretty much spot on about the gameplay in general. There's nothing much of value but just dialogue from characters. Very small fanservice (and i dont mean erotic) compared to Hollow Fragment. Hollow Fragment despite that its auto attack system, was far more enjoyable and difficult. Some other complaints 4) The sprites and expressions are quite limited compared to Hollow Fragment and the talking animation literally takes 2 frames when you see their cutouts in dialogues. 5) mostly the multiplayer/adhoc stuff. Needs more improvement. Just make it a damn MMO already and let us make our own chara and start from lv 1. It'd have far more replay value.
I honestly don't understand why so many people hate on the alfhiem arc. I actually found it almost as enjoyable as the Aincrad arc, for different reasons. Aincrad has tons of tension, as death is real and final. Alfhiem however, was tense for different reasons. I personally really fell for Kirito x Asuna (Though Shinon is best girl) and the dilemma Kirito faced was just as tense. Sure, death was not final, but had Kirito lost Asuna, he wouldn't really have wanted to go on living anyway. The only weak point the entire show has had so far in my opinion, was the Excalibur arc. That was next to pointless. The Sleeping Knights arc however after that, was just as great as anything else: Again for different reasons. Maybe I'm just a sucker for sappy/predictable stories, but I really enjoy SAO. Now Lost Song is indeed a bad game, but I quite enjoy hollow fragments.
there are some indie guys trying to make an SAO like game, but as an mmo were you can make your own character, and it's coming along pretty well for the small team
I never understood why game developers and the overall media flock to Alfheim online like it's the standard SAO experience. It was easily the worst arc of both seasons. Give us the original Sword Art Online game (Had higher stakes and looked far more fun than Alfheim) or give us GGO. All this Alfheim nonsense is begging for failure.
Alfheim is just a neater idea though. What is it like 5 clans/groups or something(havent watched that in a few months so I don't remember) competing for control of the world. Oh yeah and flying. Of course though it has the worst writing of the show(not saying much it's not written that well in general). GGO would just be a shooter and Sword Art Online would be a standard bogged down RPG.
Damion Dixon It was 9 races of fairies: Spriggan, Undine, Sylph, Gnome, Leprechaun, Cait Sith, Salamander, Imp and Pucca. All with their unique set of advantages.
Miles Johnson Do not compare SAO to garbage like Akame ga Kill for one. Two, yes they do. Subverting and playing around with tropes is what leads to good stories that stand out. Three, shut up. Four, saying that SAO only appeals to audience due a relativity factor is pretentious hipster bullshit. And five, just because the reviewer is dumb enough to spam the same attack over and over again in the footage means jack when it could easily be their fault, not necessarily the game's.
+Damion Dixon (Deezyfesheezy) eh it depends. I can see potential for both games. I would personally prefer a SAO just because i tend to prefer ground battles. Since there is no flying, there would be a lot more platforming and maybe jumping around granted there would be restrictions in boss rooms. Also since it has a better story to work with they can potentially take advantage with a player made char being forced to make morally ambiguous choices in the game, kinda like in the telltale walking dead stuff like kill a person or not. also while alfheim has the magic system implemented, they can pave way for more sword skills in sao so i can definitely see them making the aincrad arc work.
FakkuElite Yes I do. And I can tell you right now Akame Ga Kill is garbage! It is nothing but senseless gore, pointless shock death of characters and one-dimensional villains with no depth. It's trash.
I don't get why on the trailer SAO: lost song is also for PlayStation 3 but here in Europe it's only for PlayStation 4 or PlayStation vita.Does it just take longer or is the PlayStation 3 version only for Asai and America?
Is it just me or is IGN getting better at giving scores to games and not falling to the hype anymore ? This is the people that gave 9.5 of 10 to games like Gone Home, FTL and Minecraft. Good games sure... but 9.5 ?
Honestly this generation of games as a whole has been disappointing. We hardly heard any complaints about Final fantasy 10, kingdom hearts, or any of the games we had back in the day. Few rare occasions where ppl trashed a game. Nowadays everyone seems to be bitching about every game that comes out.
The truth about this game and whether you should buy it is put simply like this. If you are a die hard fan of SAO, buy it! but if you are just a fan, don't because you will get bored. I personally love it despite its flaws but that is because I'm obsessed with this anime.
Wow, was not expecting such a low score lol. I'll admit the little bit of the story that I played so far has been kind of bland but I was kind of expecting things to pick up the further I got. Such a shame.
This review was so biased before it was made it makes it idiotic, the reviewer had an opinion about the arc (Anime, and probably didn't watch the whole episodes or series) and projected that on this review, but that's the usual IGN.. Not like I'm saying the game is great, but if you have an opinion from start then why make the damn review in the first place, we all know that the first arc is better story wise than the elf one but review game as it is and leave the anime review for another opportunity
+InitialDAmine Psst... people are biased. Anything we make is biased because *we* are biased. It is a natural consequence of being able to learn from experience. You are upset because the reviewer's bias didn't match your own. Haven't played the game but her thoughts on SAO itself seem pretty typical; originally it was overhyped to the point the anti-fandom was dominant and now? If you don't like SAO, that is fine. If you do like it, that is fine. For me, SAO and SAO II are a guilty pleasure as I try to remind myself not to stress too much about the elements I don't like and enjoy what I do.
+Kami-sama no Otaku they still could of put some effort into the review, what I am saying is let's all just punch that time card and run for the door is what I got from it
+jason martz Did you switch accounts? If not, then you were not the person to whom I was responding. That person was +InitialDAmine. As you wish to chime in, though I'll answer you: 1) This is their job. 2) It is up to the *game* to impress the reviewer. If it does *not* then yeah, it is going to be a pretty generic review... unless the game is so bad it makes an impression is the opposite manner.
YES AND ITS GONNA BE CALLED HOLLOW RELIZATION !! ITS GONNA BE AWSome idk why people complaining hollow fragment. Was good I had everything in the game have AHAH and I have lost song is fun to 10/10 for me it's my opinion but hollow relization gonna be awsome
now if the sword art online series would allow for a custom character and multiple styles of combat to choose from, while actually making it an open world, that would be much better
+Sir Gawain No it isn't! If it's so much better, why did I drop it after 4 episodes? Why are the characters obnoxious manchildren? Why are the fights so lame? I've had it with you Log Horizon fuckers preaching that show is better. It's not!
Falcovsleon21 Except it's significantly better in every single way possible compared to the absolute dribble that is Sword Art Online. The show has literally no redeeming features, not even the art direction.
It's said this is a boring story and enemies and combats are repetitive .. I am a fan of the anime series.. so beside off all the negative comments on this game.. I would like to try this for my self
+riel ochoa, I just started playing around the past 2 weeks. My brother had the game for awhile but I was so busy with school to make time for it. Let me tell you first that I do agree with how there are reused monster designed just changed w/color and different elemental affinities. But I disagree about repetitive. Its an RPG, of course grinding to level up skills and such will feel like a chore at times. That's how RPGs are. The game is very enjoyable however. The storyline carries you through the team trying to beat the new ALO updated game, which feels very peaceful. Honestly its a great, fun game. Cool skills, lots of characters, easy to farm items, intuitive controls as IGN stated. I would honestly give it 8 to even 8.5/10..
Seriously to all the people hating and trashing on SAO, why are you here? We all have opinions, and we are all entitled to it, but do you seriously have nothing better to do than watch a video of a game of a series you already hate just to bash on it? Don't even know if the grammar on that is right but you get the point....
I support my fandoms. SAO was good. I have Fractured on my PS4. Getting this one as well. Though, I think I would have preferred a SteamPunk Gun Gale Online. It seemed more intense than SAO in my opinion and FAR superior to Elfheim. From what I've seen about this game so far, it looks like it could have used Random events in the world. Random as in, these random events don't happen at a particular time like in Destiny. Random as in, Whenever the game decided to do it kinda random. Either way, still getting it. Not buying into the hype at all. I'm an SAO fan. So therefore I will support my fandom. Call me dumb, but I like what I like.
I found this review because this game is on the top downloads list on the Vita store and it's highly rated there, not sure who to trust, store rating? Or IGN?
Okay for those of you that keep complaining there should be a part where you create your own character there is. there's even videos where people make their own character. So the graphics aren't up to par with today's video games but need I remind you of where final Fantasy started? At least this game starts off somewhere better than that. The game format is similar to kingdom Hearts in the sense that you have to beat a boss (to complete a mission) in order to be able to unlock and explore a new Island. I will admit it's more for those who really love SAO though because they appreciate even the small details in the game. I'm really not looking to argue but I actually like the game and I think it deserves a chance ;-;
I'm just going to say this on behalf of SAO fans: this game only tailors to SAo fans lol I love SAO, and animes of its nature (Log Horizon and Overlord, for example) and I was super excited to have a game with great graphics, awesome animations, and my favorite characters. I didn't ask for a detailed 100-floors of Aincrad or something ridiculous. I will keep those hopes up, but I am fine with this. It keeps me entertained and it suits me well as a SAO fan. So, 9/10 for me.
i kinda figured this would happen. When it comes to SAO the first season was good so it had loads of potential for story content. However i knew going in there wouldn't be much of a story to this one unless they dredged up another murder online type. but they didn't even go that route in this one. this game is for the serious die hard fans of SAO and no one else.
SAO totally reminds me Dot Hack Sign... which for years now I have always wanted a full fledged mmo based on Dot Hack Sign. I want to create my own character, choose my own skills based upon the character class I choose, and lastly of course having the seemingly endless Gate Worlds. With No Man Sky claiming to have an infinite amount of worlds.. I dont see why Dot Hack Online couldnt pull it off.
I had no argument about the cost and it just felt like we needed more things to fight I didn't really care about the combat repeating this thing because you could just change your character or the weapon
if the game isnt going to be a true mmo rpg like the anime, they really need the games story to follow the anime. like having the goal to be saving asuna
Why can't they just give us Sword Art Online rpg where we can make our own character and explore Aincrad? You know, like in the actual anime? Why do they insist on giving us what we don't want.

0:20 a game based off of an MMORPG with repetitive combat?! You don't say?!
If this came out 25 years ago it might have done well.
This sounds exactly like the anime though, so perfect adaptation?
As I handed that cup of coffee off to the lad I realized... my god, I'm an NPC
The reasons why today’s Anime games don’t have English voices now because Bandai dropped out the R1 anime distribution industry years ago, which is where they pulled in most of their voices for the video games division. Today they only dub the games that are expected to pull in a large amount of profit like anything from the Tales franchise.
6/10 Needs more Harem
More harem for more garbage!
Should have guessed they would give it a bad rating :P
Honestly, this game is actually pretty damn good, especially when compared to most releases these days. :P
Overall this game more than deserves a 7 for non-fans and an 8 if you are one.
best videogame based in a anime is the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm saga for me it is simply the best.
Gundam Vs extreme full boost is the best anime based game I know of
Gundam Vs extreme full boost is the best anime based game I know of
+sadbro01 I'm not interested in shallow trope-filled anime that's aimed at kids.
Mayo Rice Even if you don´t like the anime it is a great fighting game. And this is not something I just say many people think this.
Everyone out playing Lost Song, and I'm here, making a Japanese PSN account and getting Senran Kagura Estival Versus cuz I can't wait for an import or for the US release.
does it actually let you buy the game? because I tried a few years back but it wouldn't let me buy games with my credit card :/
Remy Dolce I had to buy a PSN Yen card from Play-Asia. I bought a 10,000¥ for $90 bucks and its a Digital Code. Make an account first, and then purchase it so you don't have trouble with all the signing up.
Dominique Smith well, when i tried looking for the physical copy it was arouns $75 everywhere I looked. The digital copy was basically 6,800¥ = $55
+Marty Arararagi I guess the digital price is lower now because it was much higher when it released
+Dominique Smith ahh okay. Still, I would have liked that big box with the chibi figures. But I couldn't drop that much at the time for it.
Apparently you didn't watch the anime. lol
1) use the damn targeting feature on winged creatues
2) learn to stop in mid flight or even take off the wings and use the L to reset camera angle to face the front of chara even if he/she's facing backwards towards the enemy while ur looking the other way.
Some other complaints
4) The sprites and expressions are quite limited compared to Hollow Fragment and the talking animation literally takes 2 frames when you see their cutouts in dialogues.
5) mostly the multiplayer/adhoc stuff. Needs more improvement. Just make it a damn MMO already and let us make our own chara and start from lv 1. It'd have far more replay value.
The second apart was my favorite part of the series. I don't understand why people didn't like it other than the internet and their dumb running gags.
i wish there were an soa game that starts at floor 1 and ended with floor 100, that would be great
Christian Schulz id love it but storage would be maddd
Hey, I liked the Aincrad arc. Probably the only one but still.
In the lost song they did include infinity moment right because you know I can't play the psp one because Japanese I do not speak it XD
Sword Art Online hating Hipsters incoming
+Shaydew Teh Hegdhug You don't have to be a lame hipster to realize that SAO is trash.
So much potential, they should give it to a AAA company and make it a mmo.
why can't they just make a SAO game a mmorpg like final fantasy 14 ARR. Then make is it VR compatible.
there are some indie guys trying to make an SAO like game, but as an mmo were you can make your own character, and it's coming along pretty well for the small team
the same repetetive enemys? remind me, how many enemy types exist in Zelda Breath Of The Wild?
Imagine if she reviewed hollow fragment
Damion Dixon
It was 9 races of fairies: Spriggan, Undine, Sylph, Gnome, Leprechaun, Cait Sith, Salamander, Imp and Pucca. All with their unique set of advantages.
Miles Johnson
Do not compare SAO to garbage like Akame ga Kill for one.
FakkuElite
Yes I do.
Good games sure... but 9.5 ?
+Roberth Pilesund Don't forget they just recently gave Call of Duty Black Ops 3 a 9.2/10 and they didn't even include any cons.
And they gave fallout 4 a 9.5 when it deserved a 9 or maybe an 8.8.
Smit Vaidya I think that might have been due to the amount of bugs they found in the game. But at least they weren't game-breaking... until now.
The only reason it is getting a break is because it is Bethesda
+Roberth Pilesund Did you miss the Black Ops 3 review?
Honestly this generation of games as a whole has been disappointing. We hardly heard any complaints about Final fantasy 10, kingdom hearts, or any of the games we had back in the day. Few rare occasions where ppl trashed a game. Nowadays everyone seems to be bitching about every game that comes out.
Her pronunciation of alheim online proves she has never watched the anime lol
The truth about this game and whether you should buy it is put simply like this. If you are a die hard fan of SAO, buy it! but if you are just a fan, don't because you will get bored. I personally love it despite its flaws but that is because I'm obsessed with this anime.
6? That's generous. Its awful combat makes it really hard to enjoy the game.
As you wish to chime in, though I'll answer you:
1) This is their job.
2) It is up to the *game* to impress the reviewer. If it does *not* then yeah, it is going to be a pretty generic review... unless the game is so bad it makes an impression is the opposite manner.
Are we so lazy that a 5 min review is ok. Sad when I value angry Joe's reviews more then a major outlet to do a decent job
+InitialDAmine I like S"O but you gotta understand. It's sucky. Most fun anime out there. But the plot is dumb.
What should i buy
Hollow Realization or Lost Song?
Lost Song
so, according to IGN, this is crap and OliOli is great. aha..
They really need to make an MMO reboot of this game
Sword art online is a insult to Entertainment.
+Falcovsleon21 >mom jokes in 2015
+Falcovsleon21
Watch out people.. 12 year old jokes coming through..
Butthurt much
Nice Fubuki avatar.
+Hope Ocean thanks! :D
This is why the game should have been an MMORPG. Any SAO fan would want one.
Better lost than found, you are a savage, I hope you get fired ;)
so, the complaints are essentially the same things that are in 95% of any rpg then
God and to think that they already announced next SAO game, why, why it won't die finally?!
+Crimson-Tone What do you mean ? Is there another and what is it called?
YES AND ITS GONNA BE CALLED HOLLOW RELIZATION !! ITS GONNA BE AWSome idk why people complaining hollow fragment. Was good I had everything in the game have AHAH and I have lost song is fun to 10/10 for me it's my opinion but hollow relization gonna be awsome
+Crimson-Tone Why you ask? Isn't it obvious? It sells, that's why. Whether you like the game or not, there's always a dedicated fanbase to buy it.
+Crimson-Tone As the person above me said, it sells like hot cakes to sao-tards.
+Crimson-Tone As long as it prints money and baits weebs on buying it, then it won't die
now if the sword art online series would allow for a custom character and multiple styles of combat to choose from, while actually making it an open world, that would be much better
Log Horizon is better in every single way ,_,
Its not the one getting the game is it.
+Sir Gawain No it isn't! If it's so much better, why did I drop it after 4 episodes? Why are the characters obnoxious manchildren? Why are the fights so lame? I've had it with you Log Horizon fuckers preaching that show is better. It's not!
Falcovsleon21
Except it's significantly better in every single way possible compared to the absolute dribble that is Sword Art Online. The show has literally no redeeming features, not even the art direction.
*****
Sword Art Online has character development? When? Never? OH right. Never.
*****
Where is all the political intrigue in No Game No Life? ,_,
Kirito is great fighter, and he have really cool outfit,if he is the lone wolf probably he will be better than Sasuke.
This specific anime is the definition of weeabo trash.
so are you ash Ketchum einstein
weabo only swagers and fucktards use this word grow up kid
+GottEddy "swagers " and "fucktards" are typical words used by people who can't think for themselves
+GottEddy weeaboo
+GottEddy Salty weeaboo detected!
U need a vr to play it?
They should change the title to be "Sword Art Online: Lost Hope"
Welp, seems legit.
The story doesn't recon anything. The game Universe is a completely different universe with its own story.
she said alfheim wrong...
I think lost song works better but hollow fragment had a lot more variety in fighting style and more planing out your attacks in most battles
I would honestly give it 8 to even 8.5/10..
riel ochoa nah this is a solid 3/10. another tales of wannabe
thank u mr. Matt Ha ... ill be sure to try this one as fan of the anime series.. im also fan of JRPG games like this.. better not miss this one
Tiny fairies, boring/pointless story? Clearly she has not watched the anime.....
Saying an action rpg as repetitive is the understatement of the year
I can understand the rest its just that statement
Seriously to all the people hating and trashing on SAO, why are you here? We all have opinions, and we are all entitled to it, but do you seriously have nothing better to do than watch a video of a game of a series you already hate just to bash on it? Don't even know if the grammar on that is right but you get the point....
is it better than hollow fragment? Because I thought that was decent
Should have taken place in the gun world level instead of this fantasy setting we already played through before.
They should have just made an SAO MMO RPG like in the anime, instead of basing the game around the cartoon and making it a jrpg..
I don't think the developers realize that what we hate about the series is Kirito and his crew of Harem girls..
I found this review because this game is on the top downloads list on the Vita store and it's highly rated there, not sure who to trust, store rating? Or IGN?
Store rating. People actually know the series unlike IGN.
Okay for those of you that keep complaining there should be a part where you create your own character there is. there's even videos where people make their own character. So the graphics aren't up to par with today's video games but need I remind you of where final Fantasy started? At least this game starts off somewhere better than that. The game format is similar to kingdom Hearts in the sense that you have to beat a boss (to complete a mission) in order to be able to unlock and explore a new Island. I will admit it's more for those who really love SAO though because they appreciate even the small details in the game.
I'm really not looking to argue but I actually like the game and I think it deserves a chance ;-;
Am I the only one who noticed that she didn't lock on to a single enemy during the whole review?
i kinda figured this would happen.
SAO needs to wait for VR with good graphics, and mechanics, this would make this game awesome.
Yeah yeah yeah BUT is it only English Sub or is it also English Dub? I mean I still may try this but I prefer Dub over Sub.
flight limitation? isn't it explained why in the anime?
If you think this is bad wait til you watch the actual show
1:24 well... you know this is an simulation of an mmorpg right? And gues what you do in them?!
GiulerPowerGamer lol nice one
I had no argument about the cost and it just felt like we needed more things to fight I didn't really care about the combat repeating this thing because you could just change your character or the weapon
I'm not a fan of fan service for men but it seems fun to play with my friends so I'll try it thanks for the review
Also the thing you said about getting disoriented while flying. You should know by then you can lock on to enemies lmao
they should of made it like fable , were you can buy houses and get married like the real sao
still looks better than most of these anime games nowadays .
I guess it's one of those games where if you enjoyed the anime you'll enjoy the game since the enemies didn't seem to change much
Indeed. You have to enjoy the anime to get a real kick out of the games in my opinion, otherwise it feels like a choir to play.
its a game based on a MMORPG anime what did you think it was gonna be.
if the game isnt going to be a true mmo rpg like the anime, they really need the games story to follow the anime. like having the goal to be saving asuna
