Hey, I enjoy your videos quite a bit. Just wanted to say, im former military and was a technician for the Patriot Missile System. It came out in the 60s (far before the gulf war) and its a surface to air missile launcher. Fun fact: Raytheon, the company that made the Patriot Missile System is credited with inventing the microwave oven after experimenting with microwaves to track aircraft.
There was a lot you missed out. I am interested in kojimas depiction of nanotechnology, genetic engineering and bionics. All of which seemed outlandish in mgs but is being researched right now and will be implemented into our reality in the coming years
The Russian "Deadhand" (or more accurately, it's real name “Perimeter”) isn't a automated doomsday machine, it is a semi-auto mechanic that assists the commanding personal when launching the ICBMs, for example, launching a rocket with repeater to broadcast the command of nuclear retaliation. The fully-automatic version of Perimeter system was proposed and was never adopted. And most importantly, why such fully-automated doomsday machine was never adopted is that, it adds nothing to the nation's nuclear-deterrence capability. Think about it, it claims that "if we were to under nuclear attack, we would launch our ICBMs ASAP", HOWEVER if the leadership would wish to negotiate a peace talk or surrender, he can STILL shut the machine down, and thus the claim is invalid. If you are to bulid a fully-automatic doonsday machine that cannot be shut down: first, are the nation's leader insane? second, even if someone did construct such a thing, how do they convince others that "it is a doomsday machine that acts on it's own and cannt be shut down"? cause others would think it is insane, right? The exact question appears in the movie Dr. Strangelove as well. The only way to proof if a auto-doomsday-machine works is to launch a full-scale nuclear war, and that's unacceptable to US or USSR. Under situation of MAD, Mutual Assured Destruction, the number one principle of Nuclear Deterrence strategy is Nuclear-no-use, or Nuclear taboo, by Thomas Schelling, because a all-out nuclear attack equals to suicide. In conclusion, the "Deadhand" is just a normal back-up plan as in other nation, like the US Designated survivor, or the British Letter of Last Resort. otherwise, great video
Awesome! Can't wait to see you do a video on the African security companies in MGSV and their gears. Most of the npcs use rifles resemble the FN-FAL or the Howa Type 64(UN-ARC in the game), heavy calibur, full length battle rifles were the mainstream thing back in the post cold war era. The AM-Type 69 rifle the Marines used in Ground Zeroes later called the AM-MRS-4R in MGSV look like hybrids between the Howa Type 89 and the IMBEL MD97. Its even rumored to resemble the Armalite AR18 that was used by CIA paramilitary or US backed combat groups in very small numbers.
Its more like a AR-18 hybrid with a A&K M4 GR-300 NS15 rifle, considering theyre japanese, its really plausible they used the airsoft rifle to have a physical model
@@A-G-F- Hey thanks for the info. That is possible cause I remember seeing kojima office staff practice enemy npc room clearing scenario with airsoft guns in the making of MGS2 documentary.

There's an episode of Black Mirror called 'Wasteland' about horryfing little killer robots called 'dogs'. It's black n white, really atmospheric, well worth a watch, I recommend every episode can't rate Black Mirror high enough.
That might be my favourite episode, reminded me of Alien a little bit. Interestingly though however, it's called "Metalhead" when I look it up, I'm in Australia so maybe that's why.
Awesome video, again ! I remember in MGS3 the fulton device you were supposed to use in the Virtuous Mission was more accurate to the real life one than later titles because they specified it had to be filled with helium and the process was something like 20 to 30minutes
I remember back when I first played MGS1, I had the strategy guide for it, and one of the chapters was about the real life gear in the game, and seeing that almost all of it was real was so mindblowing to me. Seeing that since then only more of it has become real, and even been surpassed is just wild. Like by todays standards the PSG1 is pretty quaint, but back then it was a $10,000 rifle. Even now, the first commercial sold (even if not even close to being combat viable) handheld coil gun went on sale this year. I believe the Navy now deploys lasers like the one on Metal Gear Rex to shoot down UAVs around it's ships. It's so wild to see how close Kojima nailed it on so much of this stuff.
Thank you for the details. People will finally understand my joke about Snake's battle with Dracula! Maybe I'll actually make a joke video where Mantis brings up CastleVania and Snake flashes back to fighting the M1A1 and it's spitting little fireballs or something. Snake throws Holy Water, anyone? ;D
I just received a secret codec call from my trusted source claiming that US based Kojima Productions is stockpiling massive amounts of the most dangerous gear ever created....the infamous LA gear.

And the interesting things? Sure the cypher, the davy crocket, the xjet i thought it was sci-fi, but the choppers and tanks... Everybody knows how that works and what's the purpose. What about the real fulton recovery, the real attempts to make stealth camo in planes, the real chaff flares, the Boss' custom gun and its tumbling bullets, the sensors Raiden uses to detect the bombs: is that even a real thing?... resuming: the things most fans ask.
