Snowpiercer is a standout performance in a film full of standout performances. Should have shaken up the action genre but received minimal distribution
I really love her role in "I Am Love" by Luca Guadagnino. It's a movie where she has to act in russian and italian (mostly italian), and there's a scene where she has to make us believe that she doesn't understand english, her mother languege, and she does it with brilliancy.
Top 3 Tilda Swinton movies where I didn't know I was watching Tilda Swinton 3. Snowpiercer: Didn't realize it was Tilda until her second scene. "Wait a minute, that's Tilda Swinton, barely recognized her" 2. The Grand Budapest Hotel: Wait, wasn't Tilda Swinton supposed to be in this, did I miss her? Let's see the credits... She was the old woman!? 1. Trainwreck: Because Mark Kermode just said in this video she was in Trainwreck. An I usually take pride in being able to spot and recognize actors but I can't get a grip on Tilda.
She has many options; a quirky career full of rich characters and performances. But still, I can't help feeling that Julia was overlooked. Her most believable, multilayered, and most ferocious role to date. Truly a masterpiece!
Definitely Only Lovers Left Alive, which is probably the character that I've seen her play that is closest to her true self. She was also fantastic in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It's always good to see her play roles that are either leads or large supporting roles, although Wes Anderson does give her some brilliant small parts.
+Jackson Ossea I agree completely. She was flawless (even spoke amazing Italian the whole time, along with some Russian), and I thought it was a gorgeous film. Surprisingly, it got very mixed critical reviews - mainly, I think, because of the 'melodrama' towards the end. Still love it.
I had no idea that was Tilda in Trainwreck. There was something very familiar about that character but it must have been one of the rare times that my curiousity didn't lead me to IMDB or my otherwise very reliable trainspotter brain didn't work the way it should. Superb actress.
I believe The Beach never receives the respect it deserves. Tilda Swinton was amazing in it, can't read the book afterwards without picturing her as Sal
The War Zone is one of my top five movies ever, just for the daring brutality. Kermode quickly glosses over it here. She was pregnant for and during the role and I can't think of many actresses who would have dared to try. It was Tim Roth's directorial debut. I was very careful about who I recommended it to. No car crash scene will ever equal that one.
I'm surprised you didn't include Edward II. But, given the time frame of this video, I can't fault you for not including Only Lovers Left Alive. Still, I think we both agree that Tilda is one of cinema's most incandescent lights, an acting marvel of titanic proportions.
Top Five may be good for any other actor, but for Tilda I think one has to do Top Twenty. Anyway, Julia. She took me with her performance there on such an emotional spin. Yes, I know, every critic said Julia is an unlikeable character, the film is wrong, but I did empathize with Julia. Thanks to Tilda's performance and perfect acting of this alcoholic woman's desperation.
The War Zone? C'mon now I love Tilda Swinton but her character remained blissfully unaware the majority of this film while the rest carried the heavy lifting in that film.
You forgot her turn as Maggie Thatcher in SNOWPIERCER. I realize she looks a bit butch for most fellas, but I always found her bewitching. And how can you not like a gal who lists STALKER as one of her favorite movies?
+Noel Tanti I was going to protest that she wasn't in Caravaggio, but you were correct. Now I have another reason to watch that film to identify her. I liked the film a great deal.

Swinton's performance in We Need to Talk About Kevin is one of the best performances I've ever seen.
She is a bloody brilliant actress

I was expecting to see "Julia" in the list. loved this movie.

I absolutely, positively, agree with your list on the ones I've seen. Two I haven't seen. Now I must.
She's also great in Grand Budapest and Burn After Reading!
´I am love´ and ´Only lovers left alive´ are both amazing
I'm surprised that I Am Love didn't make the list.
Her performance in that film was great, but I found the rest of the film surprisingly bland, mainly the production design.
Loved her in The Prestige. Oh wait...
I had no idea that was Tilda in Trainwreck. There was something very familiar about that character but it must have been one of the rare times that my curiousity didn't lead me to IMDB or my otherwise very reliable trainspotter brain didn't work the way it should. Superb actress.
I like her in The Beach , which for me is underrated.
+chanceie12 I agree she was good. Unfortunately, she was the only thing I liked about it :/
+TheHitherto I liked it me. Though I've never read the novel , which for most , is a terrible adaptation. I liked it. Loved the dreamy score as well.
I Am Love! How is that not on your list??
She's also excellent in Young Adam, I am Love and Caravaggio.
I believe The Beach never receives the respect it deserves. Tilda Swinton was amazing in it, can't read the book afterwards without picturing her as Sal
My favourite performance of hers would have to be her narration in Derek Jarman's Blue, given its context.

Defiantly Only Lovers Left Alive.....
I agree 100%
Mark! I urge you to check out I Am Love if you haven't already.
Won't make any top 5, but I personally loved her as Social Services in Moonrise Kingdom. She blends authoritative, creepy and funny so well!

BURN AFTER READING OR YOUNG ADAM but i find her good in all her rolls
If there's ever a Julia Gillard biopic we know who to call. It's uncanny how much Tilda looks like her in Michael Clayton.
Broken Flowers, Only Lovers Left Alive, Adaptation...
I honestly only just realised that was tilda Swinton in trainwreck. I totally didn't recognise her
Only lovers left alive!
Top Five may be good for any other actor, but for Tilda I think one has to do Top Twenty. Anyway, Julia. She took me with her performance there on such an emotional spin. I very much enjoyed "Cycling the frame" and "The invisible frame." Two almost meditative films.
Orbital - The box
Only Lovers Left Alive was a very good one as well
Tilda Swinton = the David Bowie of acting? Maybe??
***** Okay.
+Luvie1980 I definitely see what you mean!
+Luvie1980 or just the female David Bowie? Well, she does not sing, but he did act. They look alike.
Such that it was, her performance carried me through Snowpiercer.
Would love to see her play Queen Elizabeth I
Has anyone else seen Teknolust? A very weird film, but Tilda is amazing in it!
+godfreemorals It's the film after Orlando where I fell in love with her work.
I didn't like Constantine very much, but I found Ol' Tilda's brief appearances to be utterly magnetic.
only lovers left alive
She's great
Only Lovers Left Alive
And hot!
Why only 5, she's made films than most working actors?
We need to talk about Kevin! Surely :)
Only Lovers Left Alive :)
The War Zone? C'mon now I love Tilda Swinton but her character remained blissfully unaware the majority of this film while the rest carried the heavy lifting in that film.
Orlando is number one, period
Ok,Jadis, The White Witch and Voldemort making out after they got killed by a lion and a highschooler. 0:08
young adam with ewan mcgregor
You forgot her turn as Maggie Thatcher in SNOWPIERCER. I realize she looks a bit butch for most fellas, but I always found her bewitching. And how can you not like a gal who lists STALKER as one of her favorite movies?
Wittgenstein
Swilda Tinton. Yeah, that's better.
Only lovers live
The Deep End!
Hail, Caesar is a really interesting film, unfortunately Tilda Swinton's performances are two of the few things that did not work for me.
Caravaggio...
+Noel Tanti I was going to protest that she wasn't in Caravaggio, but you were correct. Now I have another reason to watch that film to identify her. I liked the film a great deal.
Wittenstein.
Scrubs up well when she can be arsed to wear make up.
We Need To Talk About Kevin is awful. And the lack of Only Lovers Left Alive disturbs me.
snowpiercer!
Only lovers left alive
