One of the classics is "How do you sink a Norwegian/Swedish submarine? You swim down and knock on the hatch."
Many many Norwegian resistance fighters and civilians who had to escape from the nazis or Norwegian collaborators did so threw Sweden. Mostly moved on to England, Scotland, or Faraoh Island. No hard feelings towards the Swedes, just love and friendly taunt 🙂. (Like, what is the world's smallest book??? The Swedish war heroes). Norway was also a neutral country at the start of WW2 but got invaded and occupied by the Nazis. Swedes and Norwegians voluntarily fought the Russians when Russia invaded Finland in 1939, mostly at the Salla front. All Scandinavian and Nordic people are brothers in arms today. Our Viking blood runs thick. :-) Love from Norway.
We do like Sweden. You'll often encounter them, at work, or in shops and restaurants, and they are more often than not, nice. In fact, it was the Swedish who taught us Norwegians to greet each other, in grocery stores! When I grew up in the 70s and 80s, this was not the norm. The cashier was usually silent, just stated the amount you had to pay. But then a lot of Swedish people started coming to Norway, looking for work, and many of them worked in pubs, cafes, restaurants and also in grocery stores. They taught everyone this very simple, but up until then, lacking thing with our culture, at least in Oslo: to say Hi! when a customer arrives. It's so simple, and things are nicer with it, but before the Swedes, it didn't happen. Actually, almost the entire pub I frequent weekly for the quiz, once a year now travels to Gothenburg in Sweden, because it's a nice trip to a nice city, with great food and fika. A couple of days there in spring, just lovely.

You missed a couple of joke statements. “Many ways to see Sweden” (joke) See them across the border, the coast from boat, and from above in a plane going to Finland. Never from inside Sweden. “Best neighbors” (joke) We are a neighbor. We are envious of not having ourselves as neighbors. 😂
In Swedish, and probably also Norwegian, about words that start with ”kn”, like knekkebrød in Norwegian, or knäckebröd in Swedish, the k is pronounced.
Most Swedes don't generally think everything about Norway is better. That guy is probably in a minority with such an extremely positive view of Norway. The way you described it as a sibling relationship is much more accurate. We like Norway, but we also like to hate Norway. If Norway ever needed help from Sweden I think there wouldn't be many that said no to volonteering. But if it's a sports competition we generally want Norway to lose.
We very much feel the same :) Its a lot of fun to banter and tease among ourselves, but we would stick up for you guys anytime! Bro love for Sweden🇳🇴❤🇸🇪(but we are still going to kick your asses in the winter olympics😉 )
There is rivalry, especially in skiing and football. And there are a lot of jokes between us. From Oslo its like an hour drive to the border. We go there for cheaper shopping. From Oslo there is a daily ferry to Copenhagen. Overnight trip and you get 6 hours in Denmark before you return. Some people do this like a partytrip. So our connection to Swe/Denm is really close. We love our neighbours!
Tip. You can drive to Sweden within 10hours(with WC stops and/or refueling) drive from Bergen. I would say Bergen is the city that are furthest away from swedish border (thow I have not actully learned or use time learning wich city in Norway are furthest way). So in a day you can drive buy stuff (Beer,Smoke) and drive back home. All thow this would be more expensive due to the fuel price. =D
Norway and Sweden had a war of jokes in the late 60s and early 70s. There is far less jokes these days on this topic. We have in common jokes about Molbo, which is the danes.
Urge is the Norwegian name for the soda *Surge.* Norway was actually the Coca Cola market test area for the soda, and was release here first. After the test they saw that we liked it and then started selling it in other countries, under the name Surge.
@@SaxxooDukei Sorry, no sources. It must be 40ish years ago that I heard or read that statement a few times. It may very well have been used in a limited context and quickly gone out of use.
@@TroelsNybo1st I'm from Stockholm, and I've heard it a couple of times. "Danes don't care much about Asia", they use to say, in response to questions about Sweden.
I do think quite positively of Norway and of Norwegians. The language is quite similar and you can generally understand what they are saying but it can sound a bit odd. But overall we love them but have some rivalry for sure. It is the Danes most Swedes have an issue with!
"We envy Sweden to have the best neighbours in Scandinavia". Scandinavia doesn't include Finland. So what does that mean? The neighbour is? It ends with orway and starts with N :P
My family always spent vacations in south of Sweden, Simrishamn, Ystad, Trelleborg, Malmø, Stenshuvud Nationalpark, Sandhammaren since I was 11 or something. Alunbruket, Castle concerts.. Me and my brother took our Honda mini bike along and took it for several cool rides :) The thing is Sweden is a great Nation, and there is no problems between the two, just poking fun of each other :)
It is normally just the press that try to stir things up ahead of skiing championships to sell copies/clickbait. But everything is good-humoured, we joke about each other but we like each other. E.g. Norwegians have bought cabins in Sweden. In Norway we got lucky with natural resources, while Sweden is better at making big international companies. Sweden is the older responsible hard-working sister, while we are the kid brother who got lucky and are a bit richer due to oil and gas without really working as hard as Sweden for it I would say.
I was in stockholm for the first time in my life at the age of 50. My first beer in gamle staden was 35 kroner. I almost died.. as I thought it would be 100 ish. Stockholm is a real beaut.. and the people is amazing. I am Norwegian soooooo.. one thing I would not do... is going 17. of may.. I was there 18 th of may hahaha
Like many families, us and Sweden fought a lot during our "adolescence", and the Swedes had difficulties letting us "just be ourselves", and have a sovereign nation. But now in "adulthood" as fully formed nations, we get along much better. Although some playful banter and sometimes getting very annoyed with each other, is ofc a part of our relationship. Or to quote a famous Swedish movie: "Varfør gjør dom på detta viset?"
My Swedish side of the family and we enjoy joking at each other's expense. Swedish jokes are the equivalent of Norwegian jokes in Sweden. But it's all done with love. Sweden is fantastic, and I will always think that their language is more pleasant to listen to than the Eastern Norwegian dialect.
The Nordic country are mostly the same we are like loving sibling. The only problem with Norway is the taxes. As a Swedish citizen i agree Stockholm are best in the summer because the people from Stockholm are away.
Sweden was the true "big brother" in everything in the 70`s and 80`s, and I mean EVERYTHING: economy, industry, sports, famous people, culture, films, music etc. I just mention: ABBA, Bjørn Borg, Ingrid Bergman, Volvo, IKEA, and so on. It`s been a bit more equalizied in the last two decades, but we beat the Swedes in winter sports, in the past, now, and in the future, forever!!😁 And, of course, we adore, and love, our Swedish friends and neighbours!
Our languages is so close (bokmål) that we seldome bother to speak english to each other! As a swede.. Norweigan (bokmål) isnt goofy.. its a bit funny, becuse they still use some old norse words.. that still is in swedish vocabulary but not used that much in modern swedish!
i wanna comment on the thing were we norwigan and swedish people think we have a goofy versiton of swedish(im norwigan), i personally myself find swedish strange sounding but like i fully understand it, but like from my point of wiew like watching a movie in swedish just sounds odd to me(i do not hate on good movies made in sweden, im just so used to norwigan that when i watch a movie in swedish i find it so weird in comparison so probably not only a swedish thing that)
I think globetrotting, travelling abroad is a big giveaway. Sitting at some bar in Kuala Lumpur as a Norwegian? Meeting a Swede there? Yes, you are siblings then. Having spent large parts of my life abroad I can tell you that whenever in far off locales, Norwegians and Swedes meet it is insta friendship and groups forming etc. Funnily enough, the same cannot be said for Danes. Which sort of surprises me. Perhaps because with Danes, even though the language is more closely related at least in writing, we have a harder time understanding each other. Then again I guess the same would apply to some Appalachia hillbilly and some black dude from Bronx meeting in such places. They truly have more in common there, so. Guess brotherhood is relative.
As a Swede I view it as a sibling relationship. Mandatory teasing and poking fun at each other included. However, this is a exclusively nordic privilege, performed with an quiet underlying understanding of love, mutual respect and common identity. If non-nordic people would make the same comments I would be offended on behalf of Norwegians (or any other Nordic country)
For examples of Norwegian-Swedish banter, you could look up some videos with Pewdiepie. For example: - "PewDiePie takes me bouldering in Tokyo" (especially the end of that video) - "The real reason I left Sweden." (starting 23:03) In the first of those videos, Pewdiepie disses Norway for inventing less than Sweden. Which is fun, but I'd say we do significantly better than what he implies. Take for example this webpage. All webpages are running JavaScript, which is indirectly inspired by the Norwegian programming-language Simula (the world's first object-oriented programming language). And all webpages are styled with CSS, which was proposed/co-created by a Norwegian. But there is no Norwegian equivalent to IKEA or Volvo or Spotify. And even with population-numbers taken into account, I'd say the US is more innovative than both Norway and Sweden. I could imagine several reasons for this. One of them being that the US is an English-speaking country with more large population-centers and more "economies of scale".
In the second video, Pewdiepie has a freudian slip of sorts when he says "we also fight amongst ourselves" (in reference to historical wars between Norway/Sweden/Denmark). Norway is a "natural unity", and so is Sweden, and Denmark. But combined with are also a "natural unity". Our cultures are more similar than alike, and while the languages are different they could almost be considered far-off dialects. You could see it as a result of historical happenstance that (for better and worse) we're not just one country. Similar to how the US and Canada not being one country is a result of happenstance.
The Eurovision part is so real, in 2023 a lot of Norwegians also got angry at Sweden because Sweden won over Finland, and often in Eurovision people from different countries will have someone they want to win (either their own country or someone else) and then they'll have one country they HAVE to beat, like getting less points than them would be soooo embarrassing as a country, it's THAT serious 😭 2023 was crazy though because people wanted Finland to win so bad and everyone was so shocked when Sweden won, to the point where people in the audience were booing and singing the Finnish song while the hosts of Eurovision were talking lmao. If you haven't watched Eurovision before, I would recommend checking it out because it's the most European thing and there's so many weird people and weird songs. Also people got angry at Sweden this year too, because they disqualified the Netherlands and then dropped the case afterwards because of lack of evidence, and he was one of the fan favourites. The most Norwegian Eurovision song in my opinion is Fairytale by Alexander Rybak, Norway don't really like him that much but he had Norwegian dancers jumping and kicking hats off of sticks and played the violin and everything.
I love Sweden. A wonderful country and wonderful culture. I´m thankful for Astrid Lindgren, traditional wooden houses, the coastline and their music. But I don't root for them in sports...
As a Swede I don't recognize that sports rivalry. The only Nordic sports rivalry I can think of is the one between Sweden and Finland, but that's Ice Hockey only. And track and field every year in Finnkampen, the Finnish battle. About the jokes, there are jokes about Norwegians in Sweden as well, they are exactly the same jokes, but the other way around.

Yes, Sweden was neutral in WW2 and didn't want to get involved when we were invaded by the Nazis. Some old people are still sore about it. But generally, we love Sweden like a sibling. 🇸🇯❤️🇸🇪
i got i joke for you norwegians: It was a chartered plane heading to a sunny destination. There were 156 passengers aboard: 155 Norwegians and one Swede. They encountered a severe storm, so the pilot announced over the intercom, "We need to rebalance the airplane. Could all passengers please go out and hang on the left wing?" Everyone complied. As they all hung from the wing, the wind shifted slightly, causing the plane to start losing altitude. The pilot announced that one passenger needed to jump off. All the Norwegians hesitated until the brave Swede said, "I'll sacrifice myself." The Norwegians were so happy that they applauded. Yes i'll add the best one. do you know Jesus was not born in Norway?": Because they couldn't find three wise men
Swedish language is the weak singsongy version of Norwegian. It's also probably the vocally pleasing language in Scandinavia for ever non Scandinavian speakers. I have lots of Swedish friends,v andv they're all awesome people. They're however also mostly economic refugees 😅.
Yeah, that first comment about Norway, was it really written by a Swede?! 😂 No, we are all siblings in the Nordic region, pros and cons. We don't envy Norway, or the other countries either. But it's great to have the similarities and the differences so close, we can just enjoy each other, and bicker... 😊 Sweden helped Norway and Denmark during ww2, since they were invaded and we were not, but stayed "neutral". (We also helped Finland who had it real tough.)
Well...Sweden let the Germans transport personnel and material on the Swedish railway to capture Northern Norway. That is probably the reason why many older Norwegians are not as enthusiastic about Sweden as the younger ones. The Norwegians who escaped to Sweden also had to fend for themselves (or get help from other Norwegians), while you arrange everything for the Arabs, including money.
@@ahkkariq7406well, Sweden wasn't too much of a welfare state in the 40's even for Swedes, but evolved dramatically over the next 40 years and is now available for immigrants too regardless of their origin.
@@mikaelathunell2822 The Norwegians during WW2 would at least be able to work to support themselves if they got a roof over their heads and a bed to sleep in. I've lived in both countries and I'm a Swede, I agree, there's a lot of jokes but also a tremendous respect that goes both ways. Norway is a bit weird, how positive the language sounds, yes Norwegians sounds goofy. Also it's weird that you more or less can't buy food on sundays and a few other quirks, that it costs a liver to buy a pizza in Norway for example. Sweden and swedes are great. There’s pretty much nothing of importance they’re not in the top notch international. When it comes to ww2, Sweden would not be able to fight back the nazi. We did hold back long enough in the most critical moment. If Sweden weren’t neutral in ww2 the Norwegians wouldn’t have any place to escape to. It would at least be limited, so Sweden and Swedes saved a lot of Norwegian life’s. They were also helping us after the war with houses and other aid.

Norway is FAR ahead of Norway as an industrial nation. There is simply no comparison when it comes to manufacturing, innovation, finance, industrial production, etc. Norway has a number of truly global and recognisable brands; Hydro, Yara and many, many more. Sweden have arguably none.
Well, I think H&M and IKEA will crush any Norwegian brands when it comes to recognition around the world... Also Volvo, Spotify, Fjällräven, Electrolux, Husqvarna, Hästens and Absolut Vodka. I guess you can say those brands are more consumer oriented, while the Norwegian brands are more for industry (and therefor less recognisable for the average person)

Did I forget to mention the cheese slicer? I think most Norwegians are aware of the Swedes' industrial successes, athletes and artists, but I don't exactly have the impression that the Swedes know anything in particular about Norway.
Swedish music is so generic, no thanks. They don't have any world class classical composers like Grieg, world class painters like Munch, or world class writers like Ibsen and Hamsun. They have Strindberg, but we all know he is not in the same league as Ibsen and Hamsun.
I totally agree. The comments above are the most accurate. 🙂❤️ /Random Swedish person
We love our neighbours!
norwegians joke about swedes, swedes joke about norwegians, both joke about danes
We tease each other and we're in competition as far as sports and international exposure, but like each other very much!
Urge is the Norwegian name for the soda *Surge.*
Norway was actually the Coca Cola market test area for the soda, and was release here first.
After the test they saw that we liked it and then started selling it in other countries, under the name Surge.
How do norwegians see swedes? We go to a mountaintop and look east.
Yes, that's a joke.
In Denmark we say that Asia begins in Malmö. (A Swedish city which was Danish in the good old days.)
we do? never heard about it though, you happen to have a source for that?
@@SaxxooDukei Sorry, no sources. It must be 40ish years ago that I heard or read that statement a few times. It may very well have been used in a limited context and quickly gone out of use.
@@TroelsNybo1st I'm from Stockholm, and I've heard it a couple of times.
"Danes don't care much about Asia", they use to say, in response to questions about Sweden.
And Danish stores does not accept dogs or Swedes ;)
@@olenilsen4660 At least not if they are "drunk as Swedes".
I do think quite positively of Norway and of Norwegians. The language is quite similar and you can generally understand what they are saying but it can sound a bit odd. But overall we love them but have some rivalry for sure.
It is the Danes most Swedes have an issue with!
You definitely know about characters written by Astrid Lindgren. The most famous is Pippi Longstocking.
"We envy Sweden to have the best neighbours in Scandinavia". Scandinavia doesn't include Finland. So what does that mean? The neighbour is? It ends with orway and starts with N :P

@@AudunWangensurprised he didn’t get that one with so much previous banter that we are better than them😅.
I thought he meant Denmark?

I'm Norwegian and the one thing I like more about Sweden is Liseberg
We nordics have a sibling relationship.
My family always spent vacations in south of Sweden, Simrishamn, Ystad, Trelleborg, Malmø, Stenshuvud Nationalpark, Sandhammaren since I was 11 or something. Alunbruket, Castle concerts.. Me and my brother took our Honda mini bike along and took it for several cool rides :)
The thing is Sweden is a great Nation, and there is no problems between the two, just poking fun of each other :)
May i ask YOU a question @Tyler walker ?
I hear alot of banter, what is that? Like the cat, the pather?
I love sweden. ❤️ Also they talk so polite. Even When their mad.! They sound like a polite person😁 also very pretty land, and people😁
Norway, Sweden and Denmark are really one big family.. but like siblings, we like to pick on each other :)
In fact, Norway can thank the Swedish people for leaving us alone. They refused to mobilize for war.
"We envy them for having the best neighbour in Scandinavia"
"Finland?"

Vi er som søsken ,ler og tuller med værandre
I love it and i love all my Brothers and sisters in Scandinavian ❤😂
the thing you have to be careful about when in Stockholm ... xD beware of the stockhold syndrome lol
With children it is nice to visit Denmark as it is a very small country with short distances.
For example:
- "PewDiePie takes me bouldering in Tokyo" (especially the end of that video)
- "The real reason I left Sweden." (starting 23:03)
In the first of those videos, Pewdiepie disses Norway for inventing less than Sweden.
Similar to how the US and Canada not being one country is a result of happenstance.
hey um tyler you should watch joniboi SWEDISH PEPOLE CANT WATCH THIS
The Eurovision part is so real, in 2023 a lot of Norwegians also got angry at Sweden because Sweden won over Finland, and often in Eurovision people from different countries will have someone they want to win (either their own country or someone else) and then they'll have one country they HAVE to beat, like getting less points than them would be soooo embarrassing as a country, it's THAT serious 😭
2023 was crazy though because people wanted Finland to win so bad and everyone was so shocked when Sweden won, to the point where people in the audience were booing and singing the Finnish song while the hosts of Eurovision were talking lmao.
Urge is Surge that was popular in end of 90's. Norway is the only country that still make it. I know USA import it from Norway.
He did not get the joke about see Sweden from above on the way to Finland 😂
in norway there are alot of doctors who are swedish (i find it hard to understand them)
And in Sweden there are alot of doctors who are persian or arab (I find it hard to understand them).

It's definitely not a love-hate relationship, it's a love-indifference relationship. Swedish people are more indifferent to what goes on in Norway than the other way around. My impression/opinion only!
Love-hate from the norwegians, I believe. Indifference from (I guess) mostly young swedes.
Elderly swedes tend to care more about scandinavia.
Yes, Sweden was neutral in WW2 and didn't want to get involved when we were invaded by the Nazis. Some old people are still sore about it. But generally, we love Sweden like a sibling. 🇸🇯❤️🇸🇪
I am right in the middle, it depends on situation
i got i joke for you norwegians:
It was a chartered plane heading to a sunny destination.
All the Norwegians hesitated until the brave Swede said, "I'll sacrifice myself."
The Norwegians were so happy that they applauded.
The neighbor joke
I love all of the Nordics, we are family. If I could have my way I would unite us all and become Nordland.
Yeah, that first comment about Norway, was it really written by a Swede?! 😂
No, we are all siblings in the Nordic region, pros and cons. We don't envy Norway, or the other countries either. But it's great to have the similarities and the differences so close, we can just enjoy each other, and bicker... 😊
Sweden helped Norway and Denmark during ww2, since they were invaded and we were not, but stayed "neutral".
@@ahkkariq7406 Yes, there is also stories about Norwegians being arrested by Swedish police and being transfered to the nazis.

@@mikaelathunell2822 The Norwegians during WW2 would at least be able to work to support themselves if they got a roof over their heads and a bed to sleep in. They wouldn't have turned Sweden into a fallen state, and they would have returned home when the war was over. That is more than can be said about their Muslims. The Swedish welfare state faces a bleak future.
@@mikaelathunell2822
By the way - Norway also had no welfare state during the war, but managed to provide housing for the 50,000 from Northern Norway when they were forcibly evacuated. Sweden even manages to provide housing for the immigrants, but has for periods let its own old people live on the streets despite the welfare state.
All Swedes also knows that Norway is our obnoxious little brother, they may bark a lot but it's us Swedes that are the big dogs here. ;)
Nah sweden is bad
It is not weird having restrictions on Sunday shopping, actually in Europe it is more a default. The fact that you can't buy a normal pilsner with 4.5% alcohol in Swedish groceries, now THAT is weird.
