Just for the non-Scandinavians Allemansrätten functionally means "The Right to Roam", yes, but that isn't a literal translation. A literal translation would be: "The Everyman's Right/The Every Man's Right" Which is somewhat telling about our part of the world I think. It is every man-, or woman or what-have you's right to roam in nature. Not without consequences for bad behavior obviously, but the basic right of people to freely roam their surroundings and partake of nature's beauty and bounty shouldn't be denied to people. Maybe I'm just being patriotic and silly, but there's a certain profound fundamental respect for your fellow humans in that concept if you ask me.
Yeah a clear horror thriller movie has nothing to do with real midsummer. I thought it was pretty obvious. Midsummer in that movie is more of a sick cult than anything else.

Swede here. Both good and bad things. But also more of what things you value. One thing many foreigner complain about (specially younger ones) our alcohol laws If you are unable to plan ahead few days ..or even few hours, Yes it may be a problem You can "only" buy stronger alcohol 12 hours per day, after those open hours you must go to a pub to get it. Personally I have never had problem with it, just buy and keep it at home when you are close to run out, buy more. always have a stock and refill it when need. Cold and darkness during winter is also something we complain about It is what it is, nothing anyone can change, so I dont really get the fuss about it. dress warm when go out. we have street lights and lightbulbs so it is not we wander around in complete darkness, sit in a dark room from Oct to April..as some make it sound like. Migrants and gang violence is an other hot topic. Yes crimes have gone up a lot during last 10 years but still very low compared to US and most other none EU countries. Majority of all violence happens between gangs, if come as tourist, you wont be a target not even normal regular swedes is involved, unless unlucky bystander. Taxes and things are expensive. As we do pay a lot in Tax, we dont have many bills that many other countries have, as we already paid for it by Tax. It may sounds it is free, but it is rather pre-paid. As everyone pay towards same goal, it work same as insurance but cost of have it is less. No one plan to have a heart attack, but we all know it can happen to anybody so everyone pay Tax that go to healthcare to those unlucky that needs it. No nobody ever think like Americans, if I pay but never get an heart attack..I must try to get my money worth ..by doing what ..stab yourself?!? People do have fire insurance, none lit their house on fire to get their money back?? Weird mind set . Almost everything about Sweden, is by 99% about Stockholm only. Yes as it is capital, things are more expensive, yes rents are higher, yes it is around 50 years que to get an apartment from government queuing system. other parts of Sweden do not have these problems. ( I live up north, big 3 room apartment for 300'ish US dollar per month) For being a capital, rents and cost of living is "low", compared to London, New York, Oslo, Tokyo It is like tourists make an guide for US and only talk about New York, after spent 1 week in Manhattan.
You can camp anywhere, 2 summers ago when me and my "sambo" a term for the partner you live with, its like being married but without the marriage. had vocation we slept in the car a whole week, we slept at different beaches everyday, we did this to be able to save money, Btw we have around 4-5 weeks of vocation in sweden every year.
It's more like the big brother. Finland used to be a part of Sweden for very long, and it doesn't have much history without Sweden. There has been alot conflicts back and forth between the Scandinavian countries (I think Sweden and Denmark holds some kind of record for most wars fought between two countries). But Norway gained independence from Sweden in the early 1900s.......Haha yeah I wanna adopt you both. I live in the southern parts and haven't seen the northern lights. We can see it here sometimes too, but I always miss it. I got the mushrooms. Let's venture north.

There are of course bad stuff in Sweden like in every country. But compered to the US at the moment I would be very very concerned about fact controling how my own country is doing before I'm flying high above the clouds and giggeling over Sweden.
As a swede, it is difficult to answer if we have the dream here. Born and raised here and can't really compare it to other countries. So what I'm trying to say, it all depends on what you compare it to. At the core we are very lagom (also a bit reserved at first) and we have the "Law of Jante" steering us in the right way. It's a different way of living, but who can say it's "the right" one? :)
Why is it strange to have someone who invented dynamite establishing the Peace Prize? He didnt invent wars, to the contrary, he wanted the dynamite to be used for other important human developments issues. Where would our globa infrastructure today be if we wouldnt have had dynamite clearing the way for roads, railways, housing anf construction and so on and so forth. So by intalling the Peace Prize he said, use this wisely and not for war. Right? :-) But gosh how beautiful you are though :-) Lucky husband indeed! :-) Greetings from the Land of the Free, i.e. Sweden ;-)
"If you come in peace". That just shows you one of the ways the US has gone so wrong. Thinking about defending your property because someone walked through your woods is so far removed from the Swedish consciousness that it's not even a concept that would enter your mind. It's surreal.
About the movie Midsommar. I have Netflix but that movie is not launched yet on Netflix Nordic. 😳 So unfortunately I have not seen it yet. But I can tell you that Midsommar is one of our most important and lovely tradition we have in Sweden. Similar importance that Christmas is. -It is so sad that many people outside Sweden now got their first association to horror when hearing about Midsommar. That film destroy our beloved tradition when people not knowing about them do not understand all beauty we have in our soul thinking of that day of the year. 😢 By the way, part of that film were actually made in Hungary. From the mountain I think. So it is not accurate daylight. In Sweden (especially in the north) the sun is up nearly the whole Midsommer night. The special thing is just that light summer night. Which is not the case in Hungary. I am interested to see if the film really look authentic Swedish. I doubt that. When I look at pictures from the film it seems the try to dress the actors with something trying to look as Swedish National costumes. Which is a common thing here on Midsommar. But I they looked like the got dresses from another type of culture? Maybe central Europe?
Of course there are bad things in Sweden, just like in all other countries, but the fine and the beautiful outweigh the worse in a nice way. It all depends on what you want to see, right? The residents may seem a little shy at first and have difficulty communicating with new people. But it passes quickly. We love our long country. Look up more films about Sweden on youtube and you will soon want to come here and experience it for yourself, I promise you, you will not be disappointed.
One strange detail about Sweden's right to roam is that it is referenced in the constitution, but never defined anywhere! This is probably because by defining it, you must also limit it. As things stand, people are free to do things as they see appropriate: things that may be perfectly acceptable in one area might very well be unacceptable in other places. So it is best to not define the right to roam. Further, this right can be traced back through history to the viking age! Not bad of a bunch of people to come up with a right that is still valid almost a thousand years later! And to finish off: the English expression "the right to roam" is a bit misleading as a translation fo "allemansrätten". The Swedish legal tradition that is "Allemansrätten" also gives you the right to pick nuts and berries (unless forbidden by law), the right to camp, and the right to use fallen twigs/branches/trees as wood to make a fire. Very likely this has come about so that people could travel from one village to another, without having to carry several day's worth of food and water.
Yes.. sweden isnt an utopia, its a hard working country.. that got its whealt by being higly competetive on the global market! But.. swedish midsumer then, go to Minesota, to a small village with 5-6 generation swedes that still do celebrate this! But the Nordic lite.. I have watch it ones in my life.. I prefere to be inside and watch my firewood burning.. and its warm! There is a lot of tourist traps.. all ower the world, dont go for it, take a time and learn more about ones traveling area.. or buy a charter trip! Now you have been to Alaska.. its kinda the same as Scandinavia in winter, done that! Hope you didnt need to sleep on ice beds?
Uh so... the "right to roam" does not cover private gardens.... You can't walk into my garden and steal apples or flowers. Private large forested areas, maybe, unless it states strictly off limits. Or if you ask for permission. I feel like this is important to set right, because too many "misunderstand" this.
5:08 I'm never gonna watch the movie because al my friends that have watched it didn't like it because it destroys our holiday 😭😭😭😭 *don't watch it react to the real thing*

Especially since getting kids and appreciating other things in life than party or my own materialistic standard. @@danieloskarsson215 are you trying to gaslight me? What is this argument? ”If you however feel like you yourself are the most important thing in the world and have money there are som really good countries…” implying that anyone who moves is a narcissist. I agree that living standards are great in terms of housing, healthcare etc but not everyone is cut from the same fabric, people are different, and for you to say that if i only care about myself i can move? Really weird. You would think someone like yourself if what youre saying is true would understand why someone would want to move to a different country. Its like you are talking to yourself, i never mentioned partying, kids etc
@@NoSnakesAround i replied to your comment about wanting to move, I am sorry you took it that personal. After living in so many countries for na big part of my life including childhood, teenager years, early adulthood and family life my comment was rather that each one of those countries had a far less community focus and much more self focus. The thoughts were seldom to your "neighbor" or the welbeing of around you. It was just more self-centered societies for good and bad. i also find it much more joyful in each of the countries to party and have fun. Its not bad in Sweden but it was often better in the other countries. I dont know you and could not possibly make assumptions about your party needs. It was merely a reflection about my own experience about the pros and cons. I met quite a lot of expat swedes living abroad and the majority were more self centered and partypeople and therefore did not appreciate the goody two shoes society here, something i now have learned to appreciate with a few more years under my belt. Please dont take it personal, it was more general reflection of almost 30 years living abroad.
@@danieloskarsson215 you worded it bad in the first place then, the reason you met Swedes outside of Sweden who were closed off/self centred is because Swedes are antisocial, may i ask which countries you lived in? And more specifically where in those countries, because if you move to a place where people go to party then its not surprising most people you met were party people. Im not sure where in Sweden you reside but there isnt a whole lot focus on communities here, people dont even want to sit next to a stranger on the bus.
@@NoSnakesAround the wording did admittingly leave it quite open for a different interpretation. And why I met Swedes is because expats in many countries tend to stick and socialize together. Swedes are sometimes socially less self-confident and feel awkward therefore tend to stick together, but so do most other groups. I've lived in Switzerland Zürich, St Gallen and on the country side at the bodensee, Austria in Linz and Vienna, German in Regensburg, Spain in San Sebastian, Malta in Sliema, France in Bordeaux, US in LA and upstate NY, Denmark in Odense and NL in Groningen. Some party places other far from it. Regardiing the community feeling I think I have another definition of it. Although people do not want to socialize extensively within a community the behavior and sentiments how they behave in society is more considerate towards the ones around you . We actually (according to studies) like to pay taxes if it helps others, we don't try to bother others, we don't try to trick everyone or have a saying like one of the countries had (you better fuck others otherwise you'll get fucked). You can lose your phone or leave your wallet in a bus and it rarely gets stolen, we have a modicum of trust in that the authorities have our best interest, we try not to bother our neighbors with trash or loud music. Of course its not black and white but its a stark difference in many other countries although you have bad apples everywhere to some degree.
Yea the highlights here is correct but the BIG downside is that we have 20% immigrants in this country. And therefore an extreme high killing per capita.

Next is Norway with almost 240000 then Finland with 178000 Islands (lets face it, the entire Northern European region is the most islands region on the planet), Canada: 52500 Islands and the US with 18000 Islands, next is then Indonesia with 17500 ...
I don't think it's strange that the man who invented dynamite also gives out the peace prize. The dynamite made you get through mountains as he wanted, he never said it was to be used to blow up safes. So I don't understand what you meant with your comment =)
"Lagom" is the best 🎉
Just for the non-Scandinavians
Allemansrätten functionally means "The Right to Roam", yes, but that isn't a literal translation.
A literal translation would be:
"The Everyman's Right/The Every Man's Right"
Which is somewhat telling about our part of the world I think.
The movie Midsummer sucks, has NOTHING to do with the real midsummer celebration in Sweden.
Speak for yourself...
Yeah a clear horror thriller movie has nothing to do with real midsummer. I thought it was pretty obvious.
Midsummer in that movie is more of a sick cult than anything else.
Dynamite is mostly used when building things. Tunnels, roads etc❤
The dinamite was to blow up mines ore to make room for citys and roades. And when Alfred Nobel found out that war and kill people with his dinamite he edvented the peaice prise to make god for the bad his dinamite did to peole. Love from Sweden and sorry for bad englich spelling.
Swede here. Both good and bad things. But also more of what things you value.
One thing many foreigner complain about (specially younger ones) our alcohol laws
If you are unable to plan ahead few days ..or even few hours, Yes it may be a problem
You can "only" buy stronger alcohol 12 hours per day, after those open hours you must
go to a pub to get it. Personally I have never had problem with it, just buy and keep it at home
when you are close to run out, buy more. always have a stock and refill it when need.
Cold and darkness during winter is also something we complain about
It is what it is, nothing anyone can change, so I dont really get the fuss about it.
dress warm when go out. we have street lights and lightbulbs so it is not we wander
around in complete darkness, sit in a dark room from Oct to April..as some make it sound like.
No one plan to have a heart attack, but we all know it can happen to anybody
so everyone pay Tax that go to healthcare to those unlucky that needs it.
( I live up north, big 3 room apartment for 300'ish US dollar per month)
For being a capital, rents and cost of living is "low", compared to London, New York, Oslo, Tokyo
It is like tourists make an guide for US and only talk about New York, after spent 1 week in Manhattan.
3K för en 3 rums lägenhet?! wtf..... för det i skåne får jag kanske en skrubb... the hell... här nere kan du lika bra köpa ett hus.......
I will join too I've also got some "toppisar" .
Finland was Swedish for about 600 years. And Finland has only existed as a country for a little over a hundred years.
If you haven't already you should react to Jonna Jinton to get a good glimpse of the north of Sweden.
Omitted in the video is all the HUGE contributions to the world coming out of Sweden in the fields of
Inventions/engineering - this list is sick
Pop music - It's almost all from US, UK, Sweden
Computer games - minecraft is one of them, and many more
We are verry happy🎉 no stress, if You get sick, or loose the job👍
There are of course bad stuff in Sweden like in every country. But compered to the US at the moment I would be very very concerned about fact controling how my own country is doing before I'm flying high above the clouds and giggeling over Sweden.
The crickets was because of the mushrooms? Because if not, it was summer and you never see the lights in the summer😅
I think we are happier than You, but of course it is not perfect!
I can adopt you . Bring mushrooms and i will show you the northern lights and the ice hotel 😂
I am from sweden, there Are many youtubvideos out there,it take me to long time to explain, buy Elisabeth 68 year old from gothenburg ,sweden😊
By the way, part of that film were actually made in Hungary.
If you want to know more about Sweden I very much recommend Geography Now Sweden 👍🏻
Me: Walks on private land.
Owner comes running with gun yelling '''Are you trying to steal my mushrooms????''
This was by the department of tourism, but yeah, it’s mostly like that
To us Swedes it's paramount to invite Americans to our Midsummer festivities or we would all go hungry 😉. You're delicious 😂
Finnish people are happier than us swedes 😢
And yet Finland has the highest suicide rate of the Nordic countries. Go figure.
Yes.. sweden isnt an utopia, its a hard working country.. that got its whealt by being higly competetive on the global market!
But.. swedish midsumer then, go to Minesota, to a small village with 5-6 generation swedes that still do celebrate this!
Hello From Sweden..
Uh so... the "right to roam" does not cover private gardens.... You can't walk into my garden and steal apples or flowers. Private large forested areas, maybe, unless it states strictly off limits. Or if you ask for permission. I feel like this is important to set right, because too many "misunderstand" this.
8:07 Not really, we are only the 4th happiest country in the world. Finland, Denmark and Iceland is above us.
What you see in the film is not a lie. But, we have problems here as well. As any country in the world.🙂
good bye and thank´s all the fun. Liked your videos. T: Pahis
I love mushrooms from a Swede
Nobel was trying to make reparations for his work in the weapon industry
We dont throw out old people from the mountain as i hope you understand,Da ?
All-mens right to forage, coffee breaks, Midsummer, Ice hotels etc. all over the Skandinavia. That is more like selling vid than true...
5:08 I'm never gonna watch the movie because al my friends that have watched it didn't like it because it destroys our holiday 😭😭😭😭 *don't watch it react to the real thing*
Well if you move here good luck with making friends as we are not to open to let new people in at all no mather if they are fellow Swedes or foreigners

It´s not perfect. There are gangwars with shootings and explosions.
08:06 im Swedish and no lol, i want to move away from here i cant bare the weather/climate and the materialistic-ness(?)
Mate, i''ve lived in 9 countries (incl US), a majority of my life. But have now moved back since 5 years. loved many things abroad!! But here everything just works better and is more humane and sane. Especially since getting kids and appreciating other things in life than party or my own materialistic standard. If you however feel like you yourself are the most important thing in the world and you have money there are some really good countries :)
Just ask
nobel peace prize is not Swedish, it's a add on.. with a couple of more prizes in a bloated political organization now day's.. sad
8:06 nah dawg🙃
Tjejen verkar ha totalt noll koll på vad hon tittar och lyssnar på.
Riktigt dåligt inslag. Det är nog bättre dom håller sig till sin egen hemstat.
do scotland next !
The lady is just mumbling, can't hear what she's saying, annoying 🤬
Yea the highlights here is correct but the BIG downside is that we have 20% immigrants in this country. And therefore an extreme high killing per capita.
They kill each other. Otherwise action would have been taken 20 years ago...
What are you? 13 yo?
I am still waiting to hear any English-speaking narrator pronounce Swedish names correctly. First of all - IKEA is pronounced "ee-ke-ah" and nothing else. Some research would really be advised before producing videos like this one.
