Congratulations on purchasing your new JBL Bar 9.1. We’ll walk you through a few quick steps to help you get started. We’ll also provide a few tips and tricks most users will not know about, so with our guide, you’ll get the most out of your new Dolby Atmos soundbar system. The first step you’ll want to take is decide how you want to position your soundbar. The Bar 9.1 is designed to sit under your TV and it can also be wall-mounted. Wall-mounting brackets and instructions are included in the box. If you place the soundbar under your TV, we recommend separating the bar from the TV to give the upward-firing drivers enough clearance to direct sound up to your ceiling. There’s also rear-speakers that detach from the Bar 9.1, you can place them anywhere in your room for an immersive experience. JBL marks which rear-surround speaker is the left or right channel on the sides of each unit, so you’ll want to pay attention to that as that will affect the sound. When you detach the rear-speakers, it’s generally a good practice to place them on top of tables or even a pair of stands behind you. They’ll give you about 10 hours of wireless playtime, and when it’s time to charge, a red light will blink on top of each unit to let you know it's time to recharge.
If you’re just getting started with Dolby Atmos, usually, a quick google search is the best way to see a list of all the great Dolby Atmos content available. However, we have a fun Pro tip: you can see all the movies and TV shows encoded with this new surround format on Netflix and Amazon Prime just by typing the words “Dolby Atmos” into the platform’s search field. If you have Disney+, you'll have to search google for a comprehensive list of Dolby Atmos content, but we’re really impressed by the large collection of Dolby Atmos content available on Disney+, so be sure to check that out for the most movies encoded with Dolby Atmos.
After you plug in the power supply and make the necessary connections with your TV, the soundbar will automatically display helpful instructions right from the LED screen on the front of the bar. Next is the calibration process. Your Bar 9.1 will capture the unique properties of your room and then tune its output based on the acoustic readings it gathers - and it does all of this in just two simple steps. First, you’ll want to start the calibration process by placing the two detachable wireless rear-speakers behind you. Using the remote control that JBL includes in the box, hold down the button labeled “HDMI” for 3 seconds. The LED display on the front panel of the bar will count down the seconds for you. After this, the Bar 9.1 will output a few test tones directly from the soundbar and the rears. The internal microphones built inside the Bar 9.1 will automatically capture the acoustic properties of your living-space in less than a few minutes.
This concludes our tips and tricks for the JBL Bar 9.1. This should get you up and running so you can start enjoying all the great movies in this exciting Dolby Atmos format. If you’re looking for more audio equipment or if you have any questions that were not in our video feel free to chat with us on audioadvice.com, call us or if you’re in the area, come into any of our Raleigh or Charlotte NC locations. Got a doubt.....Whats wrong if there r more speaker's!!
also pressing and holding "tv" button will allow you to regulate sync problems. i just found that info on a test on internet. will try it tomorrow !
Why do you say that you should point the surround speakers with the connector facing away from you? The mounts for the surround to attach them to your wall put the connector to the side, so I would think that they are intended to be placed in that direction correct?
Not sure what tips and tricks were supplied that I didn't get from reading the user manual, big thumbs down...

Exactly, one giant commercial ad. My neighbor has one and it sucks monkey balls. The thing doesn't want to skip WiFi setup (if you don't wanna stream, you don't wanna stream!) and when you press the standby button On the remote, turn off your TV, it won't turn on when you turn on your TV again. Upgraded firmware, no luck. Manual is poor to say the least and you're completely right, this video offers nothing like the title suggested.
Thanks for the tips… just wanted to understand if I wish to permanently detach the surround speakers, would it be advisable to keep them in charge via USB at all times? Would this affect the overall battery life, performance, etc of the surround speakers considering it’ll always be on charging mode separated from the main bar?
What I do is connect both speakers to a dual USB brick that outputs at least 1A each. I believe mine is 2A each at this time. Attach the charging brick to a smart plug like wemo. Set a schedule as you please. I have it charging daily right after work for 1 or 2 hours when I will be most likely watching tv. By doing this you could just turn on your tv and your rears will auto connect without any input from you whatsoever.
I would setup the assistant with your smart plug too so that you could turn the charging on and off with your voice. I have a customized voice routine using Google or Nest products that will turn on the speakers and then it off right after if I ever want to just connect the rear speakers without the need of charging them. You could really do a lot like see a timer to always turn off your speakers after an hour of charging or so. You could even have it turn off at certain time at night so they it doesn't just charge overnight without you knowing.
Good luck!
I have mine connected to usb chargers and they have been running like this for months w ok th no issues. When the bar needs to be updated, you have to plug the speakers back into the sides of the main bar though.

Left..... Right. Is the left right taken from the left of the sound bar looking into the room, or left from the room looking at the soundbar??

I search how to connect to wifi with this bar. You are the first video to come up.... you literally said nothing about connecting to wifi

Just purchased this incredible sound system. Everything works perfectly and sounds even better in person. I'm only having trouble updating the sound bar in order to use the Chromecast. Anyone else have this problem? I'm not sure if it's my wifi or if it's the Google Home App. Any solutions would be appreciated 👌
hi, i am considering buying this one. check all review and kinda doubt to hwq800t. Is it really good ? How the dolby atmos ?
I bought this bar 2 days ago and I’m having the same problem, do you have any tips that could help?
Hard wire it and it will update itself
I can’t get my sound bar to say Dolby Atmos. When I play Atmos movies sound bar says Dolby surround sound. I’m using LG OLED CX 77 inch. I’m using Apple Netflix Disney and Prime apps that’s on the tv. I had to change HDMI cord because one came with system was too short.
I have a LG c9 Oled. I had the same problem. you have to use "passthrough" to get the Dolby Atmos feature. Go to your sound menu and look for the HDMI connection. You should see passthrough . Just highlight it and you will be good to go.
@@albertwinbush1739 thx you very much sir!
Have a problem trying to change battery in flicker
Or does it have battery
Hi Greg. The internal batteries in the wireless detachable rear speakers have a battery indicator light that flashes to let you know when the battery is depleted and needs recharging. They charge when they are magnetically connected to the charging ports on the sides of Bar 9.1 soundbar. There is also a power input on each rear speaker that will let you connect them to a wall outlet for power and charging as well. We may need more information about your setup at home to better understand how to troubleshoot further if this information does not resolve your issue. Anyone having trouble calibrating the speakers? Mine keeps asking me to retry :( can’t seem to get past setup 1
Try to have your video source needs to be connected and on, otherwise it will ask you retry. Had the same problem earlier this week.
@@HBC6823 what do you mean by this? Can you give an example? Thank you so much 🙏🏽
@@nralopez I had the same problem and fixed it by resetting the soundbar. You can do it by pressing and holding the power and input button for 10sec.

anyone having issues Calibrating the soundbar? I keep getting "calibrating retry"
Yes, it took me a while! Keep retrying, and make sure you eliminate all background noise
Please can you make a comparative review of the JBL 9.1 and the Bose 700
I did this calibration hoping it would fix my issue but it hasn't. I don't understand the purpose of the detachable speakers when they don't even emit that much sound. I thought they would have more of a surround sound effect when placed in the back of my room. I even placed them directly close on the left and right side of my ears and they still seem very low. It seems most of the sound is coming from the actual soundbar itself and the detachable speakers sound better connected to the bar. When i demo'd this system at best buy they had the speakers spread apart and as a whole it sounded way better in the store than in my apartment. Am i missing something here? I mean it is very loud as a whole but the detachable speakers seem pointless to be placed anywhere else but connected to the bar
Interesting. The detachable speakers will definitely not be as loud as the bar but they shouldn't be that quiet. We'd recommend contacting whoever you purchased them from to see if you are able to still exchange it for a different one.

Thx to your video. I decided to pick up this product. I’m enjoying it so far! I wanted to ask. Do you know if there are headphones that can connect to this sound bar? Any recommendations?
All I want is to find out how do the components connect to each other, HDMI wire, power cord to the bar or the sub, etc, to see if it fits with my room. But all I see is this guy talking. OK I'll find it elsewhere.
Bar plugs into power along with hdmi to the TV. Then the sub also plugs into power and is connected to the bar wirelessly. The sides charge while attached to the main bar and then run wirelessly as well when removed. Thanks for watching
Just purchased this Soundbar, my first Dolby Atmos Soundbar too. Do I need a HDMI 2.1 cable for Dolby Atmos? Or is 2.0 enough? My TV is the LG CX

My philips TV has 4 audio output options that are: Multichannel, Dolby Digital Plus, Stereo (uncompressed) and Multichannel (Bypass).
What of those 4 settings should I choose to get most out of the JBL soundbar?
Thanks man!
Thanks for your question! Sounds like "Multichannel" might be the best option if you're wanting to experience multichannel Dolby Atmos content. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
@@AudioAdvice Isn't it the Multichannel (Bypass) which will bypass the original audio format like Atmos? I guess, the Multichannel option will output an LPCM signal. I also have a Philips TV with same options.
Well I have some more tricks that amazed and annoyed me at the same time..
1. Press Bass button for 5 seconds and then Vol UP will change to different modes
2. 3rd, 4th and 6th mode will enhance dialogue to a surprisingly theater level, which I loved
3. The downside, it will stop playing 5.1 content and only play stereo🙄👎
4. To come out of the mode, factory reset is the only option
5. Smart Mode is always ON and you need to keep checking with a Mute button hold for 3 sec and then vol up..
If the modes mentioned above can be included with 5.1, it will even beat a 2000$ soundbar hands down
How do you do a factory reset?

@@iynch1938 I certainly understand wanting the best sound and experience possible, why not go with the traditional full surround system. You didn't say when tuning the soundbar weather it was hooked up to a TV! Don't you need an audio signal! I'm having issues getting sound at all. I am using a VAVA projector and have the HDMI Arc hooked up. Still no sound.
Yes, you would always need it connected to something to provide audio. You should try connecting your JBL to a TV with ARC out (if you have one) to see if it has the same problem, it is likely a setting in the VAVA, but we are not a dealer for that brand and know nothing about it. We assume you have sources connected to the VAVA?

I'm looking at an LG C1 77 inch and one of these but the spouse wants the TV mounted. Right now, the TV is in a corner, angled into the room, so the wall mount has to adjust to also rotate into the room while in use. Sonos (via Sanos) has a soundbar mount for a tv wall mount, but that seems to be the exception. I'm concerned "universal" soundbar TV mounts won't adjust well so that the upward firing speakers clear the TV adequately. Any recommendations on a TV wall mount for this soundbar?
Great question, some of the better TV mounts have sound bar extension mounts that allow you to adjust the distance between the bar and the TV. We feel you want at least 4" or more.
If you use the soundbar without calibration it’s a game changer and sounds much better! Much louder and punchier bass! I might even say that on Standard Mode the Audio becomes more detailed and the Subwoofer a tad Punchier too!
