I've been photographing them for 25 years. The reason they run from the waves is Not from a fear of drowning or getting wet. They know that a large wave will flip them over and interrupt their hunt for the arthropods tossed up by the ocean. In a completely calm sea, they will wade in the water.
So cute! We see them here in San Diego at Torrey Pines. Can’t help but smile when watching them! Thanks for great video...you did a wonderful job! ❤️❤️❤️
I'm puzzled by the energy used in this feeding style. Do they get enough from each food item to make all that running worth it? I suppose they must do.
Je les vois souvent sur la côte Est des USA ils sont adorables et tellement habiles, ils vont et viennent au gré de la vague cueillant les coquiilages pour se nourrir! :)
Have you seen any this winter? We are missing our Sandelings in Portmouth and have not seen any since Feb 2012. Hope tey soon come back to Eastney Beach.
I saw many over here on the east coast a couple of weeks ago at Sandy Hook, New Jersey just below Manhattan, New York scurrying around North Beach at the tip.
I already commented on this years ago, but I'm commenting again to ask a question: may I use a portion of this video to dub in some funny dialog and post it on my channel? I want to get permission before I just go ahead and use it. Thanks!
@@stuarttingley Finally got around to doing this. Thanks again. This isn't the best dubbing job in the world, but what can you do? I'm by no means a professional. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the effort: ruclips.net/video/pBtDg0DDpCQ/видео.html

:) Crustaceans they eat hide in the sand right under the surf line. When wave goes out, they run in and grab all they can find. Then escape the next wave.
This is the birder's equivalent of a funny cat video. Love it!!
Matthew Crawford This and the American Woodcock. Birds are just so amusing to watch. XD

I wondered the very same thing as I was watching them running to and fro at Shell Bay, in Dorset, England, today.
@@nicolafigini6346 I was a couple of miles from you at Middlebere today. Small world.

I saw a video like this once but it had 'Flight of the Bumblebee' playing in the background and it was sooooo funny 🤣 I wish I could find it.

They are so cute!!!!
Я бы с ними побегала:) 👍🏻 У меня поднялось настроение! Спасибо!
:) У них даже задний пальчик на лапках редуцировался, чтобы не мешать при поворотах. Классные птички.
Love to watch Sanderlings they make me laugh!, I always hear Monty Python group yerlling "Run Away Run Away"!
Omg yes 🙏🥂🐾
I find that hilariously entertaining. How they move so fast and don't run into each other is also impressive.
cute little guys - we get them in Southern California during the winter months.
Sanderlings are too cute!

Too cute.
This is so funny!!
Look at dem ([B O R B S])
The energy they seem to expend to grab what little food the ebbing waves might provide seems counterproductive.
かわいい。
Came here because of Disney+ short "Piper"
