  • Mike Phillips hosts a round table discussion at Autogeek's Show Car Garage with experts from Meguiar's including,
    Jason Rose -- Technical Service Manager for Meguiar's Professional Line
    Mike Pennington -- Global Director of Training for Meguiar's
    Steve Coronado -- Marketing Product Manager for Meguiar's Professional Line
    Join Mike and his guests from Meguiar's as they hold an open discussion about Meguiar's incredibly popular cutting compounds in their Professional Line. This includes,
    M105 Ultra Cut Compound
    M100 Pro Speed Compound
    M101 Foam Cut Compound
    When Meguiar's introduced M105 it quickly set a new standard for both cut AND finish quality for an aggressive compound. M105 is what is called a SMAT product, that is it uses Super Microscopic Abrasive Technology instead of old fashioned coarse "rocks in a bottle" abrasive technology or diminishing abrasive technology, (DAT).
    Following the success of M105 Meguiar's introduced M101 Foam Cut Compound in Europe where it quickly became the new buzz throughout all the popular Internet detailing discussion forums. M101 was not originally sold in the U.S. market but due to super high customer demand Meguiar's was prompted to introduce the popular M101 to the U. S. market.
    Next Meguiar's introduced M100 Pro Speed Compound, which like the M105 and the M101 quickly gained popularity in the refinishing industry, detailing industry and even the do-it-yourself market.
    Mike, Jason, Mike and Steve discuss all the differences and similarities between these three compounds as well as describe the variety of ways each compound was intended to be used along with successful non-intended ways these products are being used throughout the entire spectrum of the refinishing and reconditioning industries as well as the car hobby in general.
    A lively and informative discussion that will clear up any confusing you might have as well as help you decide with compound will be the best choice for your specific paint correction and detailing needs.
    Yancy Martinez, the Creative Director for Autogeek really does a spectacular job of directing and editing this video making it not only informative but simply put, fun to watch.
    So grab a bowel of popcorn and your favorite cold beverage and get ready to learn more about Meguiar's premium, top shelf compounds.

    Technique is a very important factor as it relates to getting stellar results. I know a lot of guys say technique is Number #1 but when it comes to doing correction work abrasive technology is Number #1 and technique is Number #2. Here's why, if the abrasive technology isn't any good, it doesn't matter how great your technique is because you're still going to get lousy results. -Mike Phillips

      @@macallanvintage - M105 is excellent. People try and work it for way too long, with too high a d/a speed drying it out. They seem to have a hard time "reading" the product.

      The entire “dusting matter ” was a characteristic that was leveraged by Americans to be created into an “issue” by American mftrs and inporters of detailing products because their own products contained more minerals oils and used formulations that created less residue (unrelated to performance).
      Its the same as me putting down the “tit size” of other women and making tit size a huge issue just because my woman has great big tits. I have turned a simple trait into an ISSUE and insinuating that this issue is a SERIOUS issue that must be solved ....classic American culture.
      And this “dusting” was promoted by Americans to become an issue in mostly American detailing forums and groups, and propagated as an issue that cannot be tolerated.
      If you closely scrutinize this situation about “dusting” and 105 being lambasted, it was again started by Americans, propagated by Americans and appearing mostly only inside American detailing forums and groups. Its a part of the American “spoilt brat, always complaining, bashing-happy” detailing culture.

    I got a White truck that didn't shine but i did have a good water bead when it got wet, M105 brought back the shine and got rid of a lot of halo marks. now I am looking for something to keep that shine alive

      KalanzoKP: I'm sure Gold Class paste or liquid wax would be perfect to keep the shine. You could always use M6 cleaner wax once a year to get that just polished look back if you notice some fade to your shine.

    Just an excellent video Mike! Does a great job explaining the intended use of each product. The only thing not mentioned was the dusting of each product. On the forum there are rave reviews about M101 not dusting like M105. Though there are ways to keep M105 from dusting of course. Thanks for doing the get together.

    I am a very big fan of Meguiar's product. My Audi TT was even used to advertise Meguiar's product is some auto magazines in HK. Just want to point out that despite this product being to good, human factor still counts. I sent my car for regular detailing job (in my place) and used this compound. The car was great under the shadow, but under direct light, you'll see a lot of swirls burnt pattern. the paint was ruined. I don't think it's the compound, but it's the person who did the job.

  • @louizabas6418
    @louizabas6418 11 лет назад

    Really liked the discussion, but the way Mr.Rose presented m101 compound disencouraged me of using it with my DA polisher (nothing fancy a DAS6pro).
    I have 2 volkswagens and one Audi with 10 years on their backs and could not remove
    the defects (swirls mostly & some scratches from cat nails) with the CG V34,V36 & V38 although i was satisfied with their finish result... So i was thinking to check m101 since it was specially made for European paints and since it's an improvement on 105.

    I just bought one gallon. I used a small bottle on a freshly sprayed hood on my 70 Mach 1 mustang. I wet sanded with block using 1200, 2000, and 3000. This polishing compound cuts even better than I anticipated. I used a rotary Dewalt at about 650 to 1500 rpm. And used foam pad that was green. So pretty hard foam pad. But I'm still amazed with the no swirls! And I don't have to go back over it with something finer. I don't know how it works...don't really care. I just know from experience I will always, from now on, use this for every polishing need I have. My classic mustang now looks like a show room restomod! I just purchased one gallon from amazon, which was $66.63. Way cheaper than any other source. Free shipping. I will fill up my small 8 ounce bottle for spritzing it onto my vehicles. Love it. Its a must.

    • @danlc95
      @danlc95 3 года назад

      D300 is not body shop safe like M105. It also stays wet for a long time, and can be worked longer. M105 gets in and done really quickly.

    Single Stage Urethane (color) is every bit as hard as Urethane Clear.
    They both dry as hard as a rock. There is no difference in "shine" between the two products. Clear does not give paint more shine. The surface smoothness creates the shine.

  • @oha100

    So if m105 works with MF pads, then what is the point of D300???

    • @autogeek
      @autogeek  10 лет назад +8

      The D300 is in the DETAILER'S line. For detail shops where it's okay to use waxes. M105 is for use in the BODY SHOP INDUSTRY, that's where products must be body shop safe. Meguiar's caters to more than one industry. The confusion comes because "detailers" use body shop products in the detailing world. Nothing wrong with that. The Meguiar's DA Correction System is a SYSTEM they created specifically for the PRODUCTION DETAILING INDUSTRY.
      I know it can be confusing but there is a reason for everything. The best way to get more information is to join or even just read our forum.

    What's better to use with these compounds, wool or foam with a rotary?

    • @jdisdetermined
      @jdisdetermined 3 года назад +1

      Depends which one you're using, but honestly whichever pad type you like working with. They each have their pros and cons but they all get the job done. I tend to prefer wool pads because they cut fast and run significantly cooler than foam and microfiber and they tend to be durable and hold up well. I'm not a foam guy, I only use it when I have to, for fine finishing.

    Would have been better to discuss the types of paint defects each is supposed to address rather than just how awesome the products are. Placing a call to your help line for clarification on your compounds was not only not helpful but the rep made me feel like I should have never called in. He kept insisting “just get the Ultimate Compound” regardless of the different defects I was concerned about addressing. Great products I am sure but it feels like you all only cater to detailing pros and not the intelligent DIYer at home.
