Just watched this again to remind me how to face a quilt rather than bind; I don't use this often but really wanted this on my latest quilt finish as a gift for my cousin. So informative and the only one I found that also showed how to put a sleeve on the top of the quilt (and so great seeing Enzo snoozing in the background)!!
I was looking for a good tutorial on a facing. Found a couple that didn’t look clear to me and then yours. I’ve followed you for years and just knew you would explain the process. I was right! Thank you very much for the pleasant tutorial. I also liked the rod pocket idea I didn’t think about and included it also. Thank you again for the tutorial.
That is what I want to share that quilting is not hard...there is a way to break down anything to an attainable process...and the variety of quilting has a chapter for everyone!
I have been searching different videos on this technique and when I saw this I wondered how I had missed it. Then I looked at the date. Just posted today-perfect timing. Thanks.
Very interesting technique, as an alternative to binding. And, I like the idea of using the facing as the hanging sleeve, which saves a bit of time. Thank you for the demonstration.
I also bought My Grandfathers Blessings off Amazon, can't wait for it to come. We are going camping for 4 nights starting the 25th so I am gathering projects and books to take.
I just used your facing method for a wall hanging. That tip about the 1/8 inch seam is what makes the facing work. I'd forgotten about that trick. When I sewed clothes, that was always part of the pattern instructions for facings around armholes and necklines. Terrific video!
Thank you for teaching me this technique of facing a quilt. I appreciate that you share your quilting knowledge with me. I have never heard of facing a quilt, but I look forward to using this technique in the future. I love your tutorials.
Okay you’re a little bit hilarious! And have a bit of .......SQUIRREL! But. So I watched a lot of facing videos, because I was going to make one for one specific step. But you did it and explained it well. That step where you edge stitch the facing to help it pull to the back, which in garment construction is called under stitching, is what every other facing video is missing. I love that you incorporate a hanging sleeve into your facing so seamlessly 😅😂🤣. SEAMlessly, little sewing humor there.
Hello, Resident Opinionator! Thank you for introducing me to quilt facing, which uses the same under stitching technique as in apparel sewing WITHOUT the stressful clipping. Love your pedi, especially the color that looks like a polish I have, called “Fearless”. My mother left this earth last May sporting a pedi in a similar color called “Cabana Boy”. Ha! Thanks again for fun in the bee hive 🙋🏻
Quilt Roadies Yes ma’am, she was your/our kind of gal! She had a collection of toe socks she wore with sandals teaching 1st and 2nd grade, and used a chunk of retirement money tree cash for sewing fabric and another for her own sets of Legos that she played with alongside her grandchildren. I miss her very much.
Thank you for sharing this technique with us-Your quilt turned out beautiful! As usual you make me smile-especially when you showed us your pretty toes! I always look forward to watching you and usually laugh out loud a few times, but I learn so much too! Enjoy teaching your class and all your future trips with G and Enzo. (By the way-you ARE perfect and wonderfully made in God's eyes-don't ever forget that).
Thanks for the quick reply, I think I will order a kit for the Buttermilk Basin free mystery block of the month to get started. I too like the look of hand dyed wool! I just ordered Pat Sloan’s pattern for the sewing machine wall hanging you did, love it. You have reignited my sewing mojo!
Oh I am so glad you are inspired! It was fun converting Pat's pattern to a wool pattern and I increased the size by adding an additional border to make it 40 x 40 inches.
As I am watching your video, Tasmania is having the same type of weather, cold, windy and snow on the hills. I liked how you finished your quilt, I will have to try it on my next quilt.
First off, I absolutely love your cross stitch project!! It turned out beautiful! (I am an avid cross stitcher.). Secondly, thanks for sharing your “facing a quilt” tutorial. I’ve seen a few quilts with this technique but never tried it. I think I will. The technique of sewing the seam toward the facing is a garment technique. I used to sew some of my own clothes and do some sewing for my granddaughter now. I do prefer quilting though. Always enjoy your videos. Thanks!
What cute little toes you have ♥ Love the facing idea. I have tried it on small journal quilts, but love seeing it on a larger quilt. It really does look spectacular on your quilt!! Great idea to make the top strip wider for hanging the quilt. Thank you for all the time you spend sharing with us.
I'd never heard of facing a quilt before your previous video. Then I saw a video from On Point (a different method) before you released this video. I'm guessing this is a technique that is starting to catch on due to, as I think you said, the modern quilts. Love this whole cloth quilt. Love your videos. Keep them coming.
Hi Anna, So excited to try this on a quilt. Thank you for sharing! I lived in Sister 59 years ago when my Dad was a Forest Ranger. It sure looks different in your videos : )
So it's Changed a lot for You too! : ) I lived across from a Forest Service warehouse not far from the Main Street. To think if I hadn't moved away in 1st grade I might have been part of that quilting community.
Another great Bee Hive visit! I have a couple small quilts I am thinking this technique will be perfect for. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed coffee with you this morning. P.S. That camel fabric -- OMG :)
Thank you for the tutorial. What a neat way to finish! I think your toes look great. I am traveling to Sisters for the show and taking a class this time too. I hope to run into you and tell you in person how much I enjoy all your videos.
Anna, you are a delight. Totally have enjoyed your videos. Looking forward to your SOQS videos. Am having some health issues so will not be able to attend this year. Hoping to learn some hand stitching while I'm down. I just purchased Sue Spargo's book, so we'll see how it goes.
I am so sorry you are having health issues...but hey, that is why we didn't make our winter camp adventure. Life happens and we have to figure out a new reality. Hugs...and I hope we see you in the future! I have a video in the works on hand piecing!!! Oh brother another hand project...but I do love the relaxing aspect of them and I think it is good for our health!
At first I thought that your video could have been edited to show you sewing only one seam, but then as the video went on, we get to see your cute location and other things in the room. I found your video to be relaxing, in a sewing with your friend kind of way. Now I want to see more, so I subscribed.
Awww, thank you for hanging out with us...you do have to realize we are NOT professionals so sometimes the videos are challenging but we love do them and meeting people along the road!
Hi Anna! Love your tutes and all your other videos. Thank you for sharing the facing finish. Would love to give this a try on one of my future projects. Take care, Jan Trivanovich
This was so much fun to watch, Anna. I am going to try this technique. And girl, you are looking so fit! Have a great time on your trip. Oh, I see that you finished your cross stitch bee hive project. It looks great. Pam in Alabama
Hi Anna, a friend of mine Jayne Evans, will be visiting Sisters for the quilt show. She will be with a group from the U.K. and is bringing a Welsh whole cloth quilt to display. Have told her all about your videos and Enzo. Oh how I envy her!!!😊😊😊
Oh Anna this was a fun video! I love your humor. That quilt is so unique, I do like the modern look of it. I never heard of facing a quilt but I am going to try that on a quilt wall hanging I am working on. By the way, you look great! Hope G is still feeling well too! 😊
I am glad you are going to give it a try. It is nice to have options! G is working his way back to his old self...thank you for the well wishes. And thank you for the kudos :)
Although I love regular binding, this is a good alternative! Thanks for clear instructions. I, too have a Janome Horizon (an older one with the red front), and absolutely love it. Also, I have the Panasonic cordless iron, and love that as well.
Hi Anna, I love you. You personality, your talents. Thanks for sharing what you're reading in book club. Never heard of facing, but thinking about what I can make to showcase this. Your teaching style matches what I need. Thanks so much.
thank you, I thought facing would be the perfect finish. G says hi back...Enzo is zonked out. I also can't wait to see her shop. We will be up there in Sept. but lots more adventures first!
How did you know i needed this tutorial, Anna? I have been working on placemats for my little granddaughters and didn' feel like binding the traditional way. Thanks so much!
Anna that turned out lovely as all your work does. When is the Sisters Quilt show & is it open for anyone or just the locals? Can’t wait to see the next video you are making to share with us. ❤️
Thank you! The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show is on the same day every year. The second Saturday in July. it is preceeded by a week of classes called the Quilter's Affair and that brochure is online at the Stitchin' Post web site. It is a non judged show open to anyone who wants to hang their quilt but there is a deadline for submission :)
WOOOW! Learned a LOT from you today, TFS! 1. What's this about leaving fabric for your binding to be more puffy? 2. BRILLIANT idea on the magnetic tool holder! 3. Cordless iron?! WOO HOO! Again, TFS! (HUUGS) and Texas Bluebonnet Alohas to ya!
stuffing the binding was a check off by judges in major shows... and I had friends who would actually cut batting in little strips and sew it in as they tacked the binding down. me...I would just leave more backing and batting and fold it in while tacking the binding down :)
Hi Anna, just started following you and want to say how professional and entertaining your videos are. I would love to try wool appliqué, is there a difference between felted wool and wool felt. Also what is the best source of the wool, I’m in Canada and no one seems to have it.
Thank you for coming along with us :) there is a difference...all wool used in quilting should be felted and that means it has been washed and dried to tighten the weave. Wool felt is a different beast and I don't care for the feel of it...but with that said some people like working with it...it is all preference. I love the hand dyed wool. I think the best resource is to sign up for a block of the month or kits...because the expense is spread out rather than all at once. Try a kit from Buttermilk Basin...they are so cute!
What does the bottom of your t- shirt say?😄 Yeah,...the weather has been crazy all over... So, for chit chat: my whole life feels like you did in that moment, waiting for your iron to heat. We moved, are staying with our grown daughter and her family while trying to get a house, and all our stuff is in storage, including my sewing.😫 I have to vicariously sew through you, for now.😉 Thank you for that!😘
...and then I laughed and laughed and laughed. Oh I am so sorry...I believe the transition periods are the worst...waiting...at least when you get to the other end you are so busy feathering a nest...but the middle part...challenging. Glad you are here to hang out!
Beautiful job! I would love to know if anyone has used this method (or any facing method) on a larger quilt. Would this work for a quilt that is 50 by 70 or larger?
Hi Anna. Do you lengthen your stitch when you sew this way? I too have a Panasonic and I love mine as well. Have a good day, hope your weather improves. It was 87 here for two days and needed the AC. Then it was 63 in the house and I needed heat. That is Mother Nature for you.
I hate to say...I don't change anything on my machine or by hand....I would trade my 31 for your 87 :) Mother Nature...that relative you love but hope she doesn't visit long, lol
Yayyyyyy!!! You finished another beauty!! Good for you!! I'll be your personal cheering section. hahahaha Anna, you are literally disappearing! I won't ask how much you've lost but congratulations. After 68 years of abusing my body, I, too, am on a healthy kick and am seeing the difference. Keep it up, Anna. Say "HI" to Enzo and G and have a great time on your trip to Sue Pippen's.
I need a cheering section to get all this projects moving!!! You know...since I gave up dieting and changed my lifestyle I only weigh my self every so often...just go by how I feel. Thank you and I am glad a lot of us are starting to see that we need to make a change and take control! G says hi back...Enzo is sleeping, lol
I worked peds then one of the PP nurses talked me into coming to OB so I worked L&D, PP. & NB Nsy as a aide back in the 70’s. I joined the Army in 80 ended up marrying a fellow soldier & when I got out of the Army & was out for about 10yrs I went back to school I got my LPN didn’t get my RN as they only excepted so many at a time & when I got my license I went to work and my husband went to school . After that we both worked in nursing. He was Army trained as a LPN I opted to wait as with both of us active duty they wouldn’t guarantee that we’d stay together. I worked 22 yrs as a aide n 23yrs as a LPN. I was forced into retirement d/t bad hips, back, & a heart attack that I never felt 🤷♀️Loved my nursing jobs. Specialized with vents n trachs n gt
Thank you for taking the time to do a full length video with detailed instructions. It was so helpful.
Just learned about facing a quilt. So glad this tutorial popped up. Your instruction has been awesome.
Glad it was helpful!
I sure do miss him❤️
Dear Anna, I've just seen 2 more new videos regarding facing and yours is by far the best.
Yahooo, I love hearing that! Thanks for letting me know :)
What a very informative video, Anna! Really like the facing/sleeve idea!
great! it is awesome alternative for some quilts!
Just Beautiful, I'm new to quilting but having you along side me as I stitch makes me believe that I can takle anything. Thank You
That is what I want to share that quilting is not hard...there is a way to break down anything to an attainable process...and the variety of quilting has a chapter for everyone!
I have been searching different videos on this technique and when I saw this I wondered how I had missed it. Then I looked at the date. Just posted today-perfect timing. Thanks.
OMG how perfect! Glad we showed up, lol
Very interesting technique, as an alternative to binding. And, I like the idea of using the facing as the hanging sleeve, which saves a bit of time. Thank you for the demonstration.
I just used this technique on a wall hanging for my sister. Your instructions are easy to follow and I got a great result. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this technique...and for sharing your pretty Spring pedicure! 💐
thanks for coming by :)
I have never seen this before! I learn so much from you. Thank you.
I also bought My Grandfathers Blessings off Amazon, can't wait for it to come. We are going camping for 4 nights starting the 25th so I am gathering projects and books to take.
you are going to love this...but I have to say it is not a binge book more like you want to read a chapter and savor it! have fun camping!
This makes me so happy...quilting is about sharing and I love that you are going to give it a try!
This is a new technique for me. I like the clean edge it gives and will be sure to try it. Thanks for sharing.
You're too funny! Enjoyed watching your video. You're a great teacher - and quilter. Thank you for the excellent lesson.
thank you for stopping by!
Brilliant top for the rod ... thank you for such a great video!!
I really felt clever, lol
And you ARE!! Thank you so much for your tutorial. Finished the facing and rod and ready to enter it into a quilt competition!
I never heard of facing, thank you for teaching me something new. I do like that clean edge!
I forget to say how beautiful your quilt is....I was able to see the quilting better and it looks great

you are so kind! I was happy with my spring toes...even though as I type this it is snowing outside...grrrr
Thanks Anna, I viewed this wonderful video before but needed to watch it again as I have an art quilt I’m going to face. I love your videos!

Learned something new from you again. Loved the video and I thought your toes looked great!!!!
WOW...I love sharing something new. My toes are happy!
I love shopping at the Stitching Post and I also love Buttermilk Basin patterns.

Hi Anna, So excited to try this on a quilt. Thank you for sharing! I lived in Sister 59 years ago when my Dad was a Forest Ranger. It sure looks different in your videos : )
Wow! I can’t imagine because when we moved here 30+ yrs ago there were only 600 people!!
So it's Changed a lot for You too! : ) I lived across from a Forest Service warehouse not far from the Main Street. To think if I hadn't moved away in 1st grade I might have been part of that quilting community.
I have never seen that done before. Thank you for showing that. Have a good day
Fantastic...you saw it here first!!! Thank you for stopping by!
Another great Bee Hive visit! I have a couple small quilts I am thinking this technique will be perfect for. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed coffee with you this morning. P.S. That camel fabric -- OMG :)
the best way to enjoy us with a nice cup a coffee :)
Thank you for the tutorial. What a neat way to finish! I think your toes look great. I am traveling to Sisters for the show and taking a class this time too. I hope to run into you and tell you in person how much I enjoy all your videos.
Oh I hope we meet! What class are you taking???
Facing a quilt is just like putting a facing on a neckline! Great way to finish a design!
I did not know that! :)
I love facing on some quilts!

Hi Anna, a friend of mine Jayne Evans, will be visiting Sisters for the quilt show. She will be with a group from the U.K. and is bringing a Welsh whole cloth quilt to display. Have told her all about your videos and Enzo. Oh how I envy her!!!😊😊😊
Small World!!! I have a whole group of quilters from the U.K visiting the Bee Hive the Monday before the show...hope she is part of this group!!!
Anna, thank you for the tutorial...you are a hoot!!!!
Glad you stop by regularly :)
Although I love regular binding, this is a good alternative! Thanks for clear instructions. I, too have a Janome Horizon (an older one with the red front), and absolutely love it. Also, I have the Panasonic cordless iron, and love that as well.
we are buying twins, LOL...I love that iron...G says that I say that too much on the video...but I love it!
Thank you for sharing this new idea. I will for sure use it.
This was so enlightening, loved this idea. You taught it so well. Like that Toe also. You are such a true inspiration.
glad I could help!
Hi Anna, I love you. You personality, your talents. Thanks for sharing what you're reading in book club. Never heard of facing, but thinking about what I can make to showcase this. Your teaching style matches what I need. Thanks so much.
Thank you! I love sharing what I learn...isn't that what quilting is about :)
I was typing the question when you started to tell us about your rack or holder for the scissors etc! Reading my mind. Lol. Thanks.
What a beautiful finish to a beautiful quilt! I see Enzo!! Say hello to G. I am anxious to see your visit to Sylvia Pippin's shop.

Quilt Roadies perfectly understandable ;-)

Hi there, thank Your for your time in teachings this method !! I see u have a long arm type of machine in back , would u mind sharing what type it is?

Here I am again getting a review lolol. Diana Romero ❤️🙏🏼💐 p.s. best part of vid a sneak peek of beautiful Enzo😌
Learned something new...thanks!
this is good at my age...learning something new
It was a beautiful quilt.
What does the bottom of your t- shirt say?😄
Yeah,...the weather has been crazy all over...
So, for chit chat: my whole life feels like you did in that moment, waiting for your iron to heat.

Beautiful job! I would love to know if anyone has used this method (or any facing method) on a larger quilt. Would this work for a quilt that is 50 by 70 or larger?
oh yes....it would give it a totally different look. This method does not decrease the work but just gives it a simpler/modern twist.
I love Enzo sleeping back there 💞
Do you know how to make a rag quilt ?.?
yes I do...do I need to do a video!!!!
Hi Anna, what size is your beehive??? Do you have a magnet attached to your sewing machine for pins???? Thank you for your videos. missmisty
It's about 500 sq ft. No magnet :) it is attached with a velcro square...clever huh! Thanks for stopping by!
Love it. Thanks again. Awesome idea.♥♥♥♥
Glad to see you here!
♥
I like this but I'm a machine quilter I don't hand stitch anything I wonder if I can find a decent way to do this method with machine quilting
You must machine stitch down your bindings 😀 quilters are clever...you may figure out a way!
Sarah Gilmore check out Ricky Tims
Beautiful
Hi guys so nice to see you tfs.
thank you for hanging out with us...
What did you do when you worked in the hospital?
I was a L&D nurse for many years and the last 8 years worked for the OR😀
I worked peds then one of the PP nurses talked me into coming to OB so I worked L&D, PP.

Too much chatter
Informative but too much small talk. In the interest of time should edit.
