Does anyone here know if Dave said "good morning" at the beginning of the show because he thought he was still doing his morning show gig? Or, was the Late Night show taped during the morning back in 1982?
the 2nd show and from Daves guests, not many stars what to go on Late Night at the start but they will change their minds. This program featured terrible quests, and bad jokes but Dave pulled it thru.
This was a re-run from 1993. NBC to decided to air the first two weeks of Late Night before Conan arrived. This video was also stolen from another channel.
A real low-energy show, but a charming interview with Steve Tesich! Seeing that after the bizarre Pat Paulsen interview shows Letterman's two sides as an interviewer. How did the booker go from Bill Murray to Steve Tesich one show in?
The camera bit is what made the show what it was a simple masterpiece
Breaking away…..one of my favorite movies
this was so long ago, John Belushi was still alive, MTV debuted and elvis had only been dead for 4 years
And, apparently, most people didn't know what "software" was (see 3:58).
groovy and sophisticated

The timeslot was 12:30 in the morning, technically.
I think he meant morning as in 12:30am. Tom Snyder used to open the Tomorrow show like that as well.
I work the overnight shift at 7/11 and it always bothers me when people walk in and say good morning. Dawn is the day's morning
Twilights
Pat’s dry humor was going over the heads of everyone. Loved his mentioning David’s writers obviously were saving their best work for other shows.

This is some wild stuff lol
What's up with the Conan commercial just before the 11:00 mark? This was 1982. He wasn't even spawned yet.
This was a rerun

😆NBC was working on creating a prototype model of Conan all the way back in 1982. Needless to say, it wasn’t going too well.
