People dont realise that New Order created the ability for drum machines and synths to sync up. They couldn't do it at the time and they got a friend from the local uni to create the tech to get them to sync up. Also for probably 30+ years almost all drum machine sounds are New Order's Stephen Morris work because once one person had painstakingly recorded each drum sound into a drum machine nobody else could be bothered doing it. He joked the because of the nominal nature of the royalties every few months he would gather up the cheques from record companies for huge hits and go and buy himself lunch at the local pub with hsi share.
I am running 2 12 Xmaxx monsters American Bass , with about 6000watts I can tell you this songs Drums & those kicks were something else shaking the car!
Great review great tune. This tune was the first crossover from indie to dance that started rave culture in uk and made it cool to dance. Aw the best Mac
I'm 22 and I can see the guy on the left looks bored while the song is playing. I love the song one of my favorite songs out there, I enjoyed the real reactions out of you guys, Cheers from New Zealand.
As I was "alive" in the eighties I Iove this song. Good beat. Really innovative and catchy for that time. But I do not know why I remember these songs, in general, not for the bands or titles, but only when I listen them on your channel. Ciao.
Yes living in the US my whole life, but loving UK Bands always .... it's interesting learning how singles were released in different order off albums and which songs are actually more popular in the US versus the UK 😎😎
It was only released as a 12 inch , well in the UK anyway, cant speak for other nations :) Still got my original March 83 copy . Huge club favourite of the time. Iconic track.
@@reactionextraction Didn't see this exchange before posting above - the 12" single was the only Blue Monday single released in 1983. It is the original version. Until later remixes were released, the single existed solely as a 12" single or as an album track on later pressings of the band's Power, Corruption and Lies lp. The version you listened to is the only original version, or normal version.
"Blue Monday" is brutal to think about because of the way it handles "feeling." "How does it feel / To treat me like you do?" . . . "Tell me, now, how do I feel?" . . . "I'm quite sure that you'll tell / just how I should feel today." . . . "Tell me, how does it feel / when your heart grows cold?" Our intimate singer is so divorced from feelings. It's very sad, but I love it. I'm glad to see you guys share my taste on this one. And Ty's right about the complexity of the music. Layer on top of layer on top of layer. Tyler's shoes are nice, too.
This song is absolutely amazing. This is one of my mom's favorites and every time we go on a car trip she plays it. So whenever I hear it I instantly go to those memories. Just such a fun song! :) Edit: His shoes are awesome! I would wear them! :)
This is the normal version. There wasn't a short version in '83, what you listened to WAS the original and only version the song at the time. And still the best. A shorter version remixed by Quincy Jones was released in '88. Jones was hesitant to touch the original as he deemed it perfect, but his mix was well-received and charted highly.
There is no "normal version" of this song. This is it in its full glory! There was a promo 7" single released only in Japan that is extremely rare and has an edit of the full song. Again, it is not an extended version. It is crazy that this eventually made its way to the radios and got significant air play over the years!
New Order went to New York in the early 80's and visited some of the House Music Clubs, they came back to produce this track. If one song transformed the Manchester music scene its Blue Monday. Manchester already had a strong Independent (four band) Music scene but this opened the door to House music (EDM) which exploded in Manchester a few years later and made Manchester the centre of the European Dance scene for several years in the late 80's early 90's.
In the 80s any time my friend and I were out looking in the stores and came across an electronic keyboard floor model that had a drum kit as one of the instruments, we'd try to do that kick pattern.
The 12" is the normal version: The band actually had to build theiir own stuff to make this song work. Then when it started to sell, they lost money, 'cos the sleeve was so expensive to manufacture. Beautiful!
You have to remember ,no one had heard anything like this back in the day, they used to be Joy Division a great band in their own right ,then they wrote this . 3 bands changed music ,The Beatles,The Sex Pistols, and New Order, everything after was either copied or sequents.
Blue Monday will stand the test of time. The Weeknd is awesome because he respects the 80s. His music has soul unlike most of the new artists of today. There’s a great lack of depth in the current music scene.
New Order the best. Young people don't appreciate the legends.

Shout Out to Stephen Morris ....
Is that Dave Smith the creator of midi?
This 12" Single is a masterpiece, i would never give it away - brilliant !!!
Agreed , Totally Brilliant 😎😎
This track pretty much single-handedly redefined the entire music dance scene in the 80s, shortly followed by "Relax" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
Your right ... Thank You New Order for such greatness ❤️😎🤘🏼
The glummest reaction from the guy on the left to a classic track ❤😂❤😂
Please leave the stage 😅😅😅😅 im waiting to hear blue monday not gloom friday
I'm 47 years old from Manchester England and you guys are taking me back to my favourite period 👍👌💪
Best friend had 2 12” Alpines in his truck and man this song rocked that truck like no other song
I am running 2 12 Xmaxx monsters American Bass , with about 6000watts I can tell you this songs Drums & those kicks were something else shaking the car!
Always loved this song, especially this 12" version. Such a great build from the minimal drum beat at the start then layer after layer added.
New Order, ahead of their time 😎😎
Great review great tune. This tune was the first crossover from indie to dance that started rave culture in uk and made it cool to dance. Aw the best Mac
Why is the guy on the left trying so hard to look completely bored out of his skull?
Kids Right ?! Ha The generational music gap is wide 😳😎
I'm 22 and I can see the guy on the left looks bored while the song is playing. I love the song one of my favorite songs out there, I enjoyed the real reactions out of you guys, Cheers from New Zealand.
Hello from Texas ... Cheers to you in New Zealand 😎😎 Thanks for watching the show !!
Crazy he has no taste 😅

Best Comment Ever 😎😎 Love Hearing That !
Love this. Think this was more popular in the UK than True Faith but I was there in the US at the time so love em both

Can someone get the youg guy a strong coffee please before he falls asleep? 🙄
Kids right, ha 😎

Iconic track, not sure if we had the single or 12" first in the US ......good question 😎😎

One of my top faves from 80s club culture! But wondering how anyone can remain still while listening to these?🤷🤔

Very ominous song Yes & I like the shoes too 😎

I know right, wish I had cool shoes like that back in the 80's, mine were basic Nike or Adidas or Kaepa (if anyone remembers those ha)
I can still remember the first time I heard this track. It was as though I had had an epiphany.
That’s my second favorite! The perfect kiss is yet better, in my humble opinion
Thanls for this reaction guys!
Thx for watching 😎😎

Small correction: it WASN'T the original version, it IS the original version... ;-)
Good to know, I had forgotten about that. 👍🏼

this song was released 3 times in the 80s
True Dat, amazing track and 12" version, total classic 😎!
This is my desert island song. I could play it a hundred times in a row and not get tired of it. It has to be the 12" though - nothing else will do.

They had biggest saling 12 inch single off all time lots new to live at 30 songs
Fabulous...........!
Love New Order music...great dance club music!

A good one would be She Sells Sanctuary by The Cult
Agreed ..... that's a great song 😎😎
The Nike are dope new order are my 3rd favorite band
The 12" is the normal version: The band actually had to build theiir own stuff to make this song work. Then when it started to sell, they lost money, 'cos the sleeve was so expensive to manufacture. Beautiful!
Good job Ty liked it otherwise you would have had to disown him ...
Hmm, the thought did cross my mind, Ha 😳
The most ingenious song ever to patched together!

Recommend Party Fears Two by The Associates....quintessential New Romantic record...very cool 😎
Wow forgot how long these songs were lol
Ha funny, yes 😎😎
cool trainers cool tune whats not to like. I also like "Vanishing Point" another great tune.
IKR My shoes were not that cool when I was a young Lad, Ha 😎😎
Blue Monday will stand the test of time. The Weeknd is awesome because he respects the 80s. His music has soul unlike most of the new artists of today. There’s a great lack of depth in the current music scene.
1983
We like the song, we like Tyler's shoes
Sweet Fab Band 😎 I want a pair of Ty's shoes for myself, ha
TOUCHDOWN! 🤣
SCORE 😎 !
Cover song for greatest decade in human history
The young lad looks bored😂
Crazy 😅😅😅😅
Seems like the guy on the left couldnt care less. "I want my Miley Cyrus" :)
There is no normal version to this song. Only 12inch
Besides Blue Monday, I think their other best tracks are, Your Silent Face and Age of Consent.
Sorry, but the Weeknd is weak.
