You guys are lucky. Even with being seemingly very-attentive to cleanliness and environment (away from carpets, etc) I've had less success over the past few tries. Had one successful tub out of 3 attempts, but all the rest ended up getting contaminated either in the jar, or in the tub as the mycelium was trying to colonise.
I was crying when he said "too damn broke to buy a pressure cooker" That was me back in the day... buying a hand-painted oriental rice cooker off CraigsList from a sweet 64 year old Chinese lady, who bless her heart, gave me some tips on making good rice. Little did she know.....
Those qrt hard of just whole brown rice i would think have a higher chance of contams. Mix wit vermiculite could be wrong tho. But you can use half pint too for this the quicker jars are fully colonized the least chance for contams
If you bought a 5 pound bag of rice, it fills up a mason jar to the point he shows in the video exactly 6 times, then fills them exactly to the right point, without a grain leftover. So, if you're making at least 6 jars, you don't have to waste your time measuring them all out. (Hopefully that's helpful to someone, haha...I was shocked at how perfectly it all worked out as I was making exactly 6 jars.)
Finally!!!! After 2 failed attempts. Success. Yesterday afternoon I noticed pins and this morning saw several more and boom. This afternoon I have them. Thanks for your teaching
I followed these instructions. Inoculated on Oct 17, began harvesting Nov 21, just started second flush a few days ago. So far, I have over 70 grams of dried G.T. mushrooms. Thank you!

Bruh I had literally months of failure .. months .... Until I stumbled upon Ben's Tek. My first limited success was with a dollar store bag of rice ... But I'd already bought a pressure cooker and was determined to get this grain jar shit down. Then came a string and I mean string, one vendor after the other sending me junk like unsealed agar cultures and spore syringes so old that you could have called it no nutrient water liquid culture ... Like both syringes on sale so I get it buyer beware but all they produced was contam... So then I tried agar ... What a joke that was ... I had plates I put swab to that didn't do shit for 2 months until the agar started to degrade 😂 like I tried everything .... I had limited success.wurh bens Tek... But today I have a bunch of jars colonizing iny drawers ... Dozens
I like to do 5 jars instead of 4, reason why is I’ll keep the 5th jar as a starter jar to help jump start my jars. Pretty much let all 5 inoculate fully keep one as a jump starter, when you get your next set of jars ready all you gotta do is take a small chunk of inoculated grains throw it in the new jars and boom in 7-9 days fully inculcated jars 👌🏼

Do you have the problem of overcooking your jars while sterilizing, half of my jars always get all mushy and overcooked when I put it on medium/low, I’ve tried going a little less hot, but then they don’t fully sterilize and become contaminated
@@RH-th1zu - like philipariel stated, try to dry the rice / grain more prior filling the jars. Letting it sit in a strainer (so it can drip dry) for 15-30min. Do not rush this drying step -- patients. Somewhat contradictory to video suggestions, maybe try to not quench under cold water after put in the strainer so it can "steam dry". If one is going to wash the grain post simmering, maybe wash with HOT water? This advice may be totally wrong - other input appreciated.

PGT is the best! We put spores from the same syringe in whole brown rice and also bird seed. Same time and temp cupboard. Rice is way ahead. Visible mycelium in 4 days.
Finally. On to the fruiting stage. Still going great thanks to these videos. It anyone wants to have success, these are the videos to learn from. So far I've had zero problems and even started some agar plates. I even started thinking about how I could make soil so much better for all our plants. Its kinda like the more you know and do, the more you start thinking about what plants would like and I definitely look at mushrooms in the wild a different way too since starting this amazing adventure. Please keep the videos coming. Maybe some videos on how to start different species like turkey tail or red reishi.
TBH, this is considered "dirty beginners" mycology. If you want to really learn, go to Shroomery and check out any one of their tek guides WIth all that brown rice you could have made yourself some PF cakes and saved yourself the hassle of getting out hard clumps of rice from a jar. If you wanna bulk sub, use birdseed or millet.

ive innoculated my jars on my oven door with it on. I havent had any contamination yet but the still air box method seems simple, efficient and a lot less warm than my oven!
I did similarly when I did PF Tek, except slid out the bottom rack and placed a piece of cardboard as a flat work surface. Used inoculation holes on the 12 1/2 pint jars and had no contams. I’m going to try this next for quart jars.
These are great healing compounds! When used in proper context, they are life changing and so good for us. They've changed my life for the better and I'm so grateful for them.
I followed this TEK to a T ... nothing happened. I used spores ... in a FB group they said you can't use spores for this, it has to be LC or agar. I would enjoy a clearer answer, but I won't try that again for now. Lost an entire syringe. Appreciate you PGT!
Idk if you have other things but regular pressure cooker and grain jars would be cool some point for the people also. I have enjoyed this different approach and think many ways should be known thank you

I've tried to grow shrooms. I bought the sterilized substrate with the rubber, self sealing lids. But I keep getting burned on the spores. Ordered from three different vendors but got totally ripped off by one that simply took my money and delivered nothing. The other two sent me syringes with plain water. I gave up. Any recommendations for reliable suppliers? I would love to be taught a lesson by a Golden Teacher.

Tip, dont do the upside down lid, ive found rust that actually ends up getting into the metal due to the finish the lids have micro scratches end up rusting the lids, contaminating your grain, best to just barely lay the lid on the jar lightly then screw the cap on loosely without sealing jar. The heat will automatically seal the jar once it reaches the sterile temps.
I hedged my bets using agar and uncle ben's my first go... with this tek on my radar. for my 'gourmet' mushrooms. So glad I wasn't intimidated by agar, Success on both fronts so far, knock on wood... but the agar is just awesome to see and so confidence inspiring :) I will be doing BBT jars next with agar wedges. I did purple, 2 drops blue to 1 red.

way back in the 60's in college I used a cardboard box with a window on top and holes cut in the side for a still air box. I sprayed the box with lysol to sterilize it, used good sterile technique qnd I was very successful getting clean cultures on agar. I'm sure many wanting to save $ could use that instead of buying or making a plastic still air box.

Philly is one of my main guys but I disagree about the upside-down lids. I do like the unmodified lids when it's time to shake the jars, but I've had air-exchange problems, so I much prefer a modified lid with micropore tape over it. I think it's more consistent and more resistant to contamination that way.

PGT, I really enjoyed watching your videos. I am new to this and just recently started after seeing your video/ videos. Using this video I was able to generate 4 jars with Mycelium growth. 1 with green mold that was removed and thrown outside. I watched a video of yours about making sure you don’t have carpet that it can be a cause of contamination. My question for you is I’m two weeks into Mycelium growth with that contaminated removed but my grow is being done in my coat closet. There is a patch of carpet, but the jars are on the top shelf near the ceiling of the closet. After watching your video I was thinking of removing the carpet slab in the bottom and purchase an air purifier to place on the top shelf with the jars. One of my big questions is, how should I transform this closet to have ideal conditions?? Unfortunately the closet is in the living room and it worries me there may be to much activity outside the closet that could increase chances of contamination. If I should remove the carpet, do I need to line the walls of the closet with anything? Plastic? Any other material? I currently have 3 jars with Mycelium growth in this not ideal condition and am worried they will be or already are contaminated and I just can’t see it yet. Whatever tips you would have for me to set this closet up to be more ideal would be extremely helpful and would appreciate it very much. First time my cat did this experiment, he used PF Tek. He is still a fan of that Tek, but this is so much easier and eliminates so many steps and chances for things to go wrong. THE WAY for brown rice

I know this video is from a half a year ago but I’m 10 mins from Philly and it’s always great to see people near me who also shroom. I just got into using actually using psilocybin about 3 months ago after doing research for a year and it’s helped me TREMENDOUSLY with my anxiety and serious depression bouts. I’ve taken over 14 medications and mushrooms have helped me more than any anti-depressant. I’ve dosed 3 times within the past 3-4 months and they’ve made me feel better than I have in a long time, so I decided that I want to try to start micro-dosing. This video is going to help me so much once I start growing, so THANK YOU! If we ever cross paths in the city some how, I owe you a drink!
I’ve had so much trouble with finding shrooms in our area, so I feel like growing them on my own might be my best bet. I use reddit a lot and theres a bunch of information on how to grow on there, so that should help too
Wait a sec. This was in my recommendations because I was googling stuff I could do with my moist cellar. Since everything’s moldy after a two day it thought maybe growing mushrooms together with my daughter is a good idea. But these are not the mushrooms I was looking for, are they?

Hi, do the jar lids need to be screwed all the way down (tight to the jar) before steam sterilizing?

Hello, I have two questions: I am thinking about using a substrate of: Mix of seeds (bird food), brown rice flour, flaxseed flour, vermiculite, glucose. Do the ready-made jars have an air filter? When the jars are colonized, can I remove and transfer the substrate to a grow box. That is, can I hurt the mycelium(damage) Thanks in advance
ive innoculated my jars on my oven door with it on. I havent had any contamination yet but the still air box method seems simple, efficient and a lot less warm than my oven!
I did similarly when I did PF Tek, except slid out the bottom rack and placed a piece of cardboard as a flat work surface. Used inoculation holes on the 12 1/2 pint jars and had no contams. I’m going to try this next for quart jars.
Back again, even though I have all the steps in a notebook. It’s like a tradition anytime I do a batch to watch the accompanying PGT video 😂

I followed this TEK to a T ... nothing happened. I used spores ... in a FB group they said you can't use spores for this, it has to be LC or agar. I would enjoy a clearer answer, but I won't try that again for now. Lost an entire syringe. Appreciate you PGT!

I've tried to grow shrooms. I bought the sterilized substrate with the rubber, self sealing lids.
But I keep getting burned on the spores.
Ordered from three different vendors but got totally ripped off by one that simply took my money and delivered nothing.
The other two sent me syringes with plain water. I gave up.
Any recommendations for reliable suppliers? I would love to be taught a lesson by a Golden Teacher.

Do the jars have to have an air filter? Meaning is it possible for them to be completely hermetically sealed?!

Tip, dont do the upside down lid, ive found rust that actually ends up getting into the metal due to the finish the lids have micro scratches end up rusting the lids, contaminating your grain, best to just barely lay the lid on the jar lightly then screw the cap on loosely without sealing jar. The heat will automatically seal the jar once it reaches the sterile temps.
Second this. This just happened to me. I’m moving on to plastic wide mouth lids. It’s not worth the risk.

I'm excited to see the 2nd part I've never tried doing these before but I think I want to
way back in the 60's in college I used a cardboard box with a window on top and holes cut in the side for a still air box. I sprayed the box with lysol to sterilize it, used good sterile technique qnd I was very successful getting clean cultures on agar. I'm sure many wanting to save $ could use that instead of buying or making a plastic still air box.

Philly is one of my main guys but I disagree about the upside-down lids. I do like the unmodified lids when it's time to shake the jars, but I've had air-exchange problems, so I much prefer a modified lid with micropore tape over it. I think it's more consistent and more resistant to contamination that way.
Pretty sure he changed his mind about the lids after this. He made a video about it or maybe a short.

PGT, I really enjoyed watching your videos. I am new to this and just recently started after seeing your video/ videos. Using this video I was able to generate 4 jars with Mycelium growth. 1 with green mold that was removed and thrown outside. I watched a video of yours about making sure you don’t have carpet that it can be a cause of contamination. My question for you is I’m two weeks into Mycelium growth with that contaminated removed but my grow is being done in my coat closet. There is a patch of carpet, but the jars are on the top shelf near the ceiling of the closet. After watching your video I was thinking of removing the carpet slab in the bottom and purchase an air purifier to place on the top shelf with the jars. One of my big questions is, how should I transform this closet to have ideal conditions?? Unfortunately the closet is in the living room and it worries me there may be to much activity outside the closet that could increase chances of contamination. If I should remove the carpet, do I need to line the walls of the closet with anything? Plastic? Any other material? I currently have 3 jars with Mycelium growth in this not ideal condition and am worried they will be or already are contaminated and I just can’t see it yet. Whatever tips you would have for me to set this closet up to be more ideal would be extremely helpful and would appreciate it very much. I’ve watched several other videos about these grows but your videos were what made me get off my ass and start doing it. I hope to hear back from you soon.

I know this video is from a half a year ago but I’m 10 mins from Philly and it’s always great to see people near me who also shroom. I just got into using actually using psilocybin about 3 months ago after doing research for a year and it’s helped me TREMENDOUSLY with my anxiety and serious depression bouts.
