The screen "issue" is something I've noticed in a lot of newer car designs. Older car dashboards were recessed so the display was underneath a ledge which blocked sunlight shining on it from above. But I've seen many newer cars with digital displays which have no such ledge. So any time the sun is not shining from the front, it shines directly on and can wash out the display. As best as I can tell, this is a case of artistic design being prioritized over functional design.

Used to be an AAA service truck driver and I responded to a call for a flat tire. Now with inflator kits our policy was we can’t touch them and it becomes a tow call. This kid I stopped to help would not stop whining or moaning about how “ he didn’t have time for this”. By the time his father got there I was using the inflator kit just to shut him up and to get him to quit whining and to get the car moving, I insisted on both signing the liability form and fully releasing me from any problems cause he initially wasn’t going to even get a new tire. His dad told him he was. Breakdowns or flats are always inconvenient but you had better be ready cause they’ll happen when you least expect it or ignore advice from somebody telling you to fix it

and then there was the day when a customer brought in his BMW E36 325i with a damaged engine. I don't remember what it was. so we calculated swapping engines with one from a local car yard, as they at least won't remove an engine if it ran sketchy. all done and dusted, we realized the original engine had the adjusting intake camshaft, the swapped engine hadn't. but fret not, all you have to do is cut out that part of the cylinder head where the adjustor/actuator goes, which is not a big deal. just took my co-worker 3 hours to do... but engine won't start still. this took a while, until I had the idea to compare both engines' balancers, and lo&behold the spot for the sensor was placed differently! after swapping the balancer the engine ran nicely and without any more error codes.
    but, BMW, why?

0:23 - As a former mechanic, I cannot help but wonder why the rear windshield washer tubing is routed from the pump at the bottom of the reservoir in the engine compartment, through the firewall, UP THE A-PILLAR, and then towards the rear of the vehicle?
1:09 - I fully expected the "Door Ajar Light Always On" complaint to be for a mid-90s Ford Windstar.
2:37 - I wonder why the wires are melted? Couldn't possibly be from jamming a paper clip into the OBD-II port and grounding out electrical circuits, right?
(Sidenote: The paperclip-in-the-OBD-port trick, to my knowledge, only works for OBD-I GM vehicles, and all it does is flash the Check Engine Lamp to indicate which stored codes are present.)
EDIT: 3:10 - HOLD IT RIGHT THERE ONE SECOND! Is that a Daewoo Leganza?!
It wouldn't hurt to research your vehicle's make, model, and year to see if there are any easy methods built-in for code retrieval. Many Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep products will post codes to the digital odometer after a certain number and speed of ignition on-off cycles. Some older Mitsubishi vehicles require an analog multimeter between two pins in the diagnostic connector, and you have to count the needle deflections to get the code number (and, in 2014, I couldn't find any shops near me that could read OBD-I from a '95 Mighty Max, not even the Mitsubishi dealership, thank goodness for the internet).
Not every manufacturer gives the owner that much access to the onboard diagnostics, but some do. While most shops and techs are honest - for every bad experience, there are likely hundreds of positive experiences - I'm always a proponent of being an informed consumer. However, do NOT clear codes until repairs are made - DON'T clear them before driving to a shop, either - as your techs will need that diagnostic info too.

I saw a 'paint job' similar to that last clip at a shop last yea when I put my own own car in for service. The stick on film did not have artwork but a rainbow effect pearl finish that was applied to all the main panels of the car.
It made the car very distinctive and I've seen it around town a few times since. Pity the driver is absolutely hopeless, I haven't seen it lately and won't be surprised if it's in a ditch somewhere.
