though this fully crystalizes my point on microsoft spending way too much time on AI crap on Windows rather than fixing their software.
I think it was the captions that made the people stick around. Increase retention. The hot take was true.
It's crazy that some of their decisions have made the GUI less accessible and more of a hassle to use...that doesn't even get into their Search utility becoming terrible to use. I can rarely find anything on my computer, even if I use it a lot and if the folder/file/executable has a very unique name.

I've been using my win 7 computer up until a month or two ago. The hard drive has crashed for the 2nd time and it's now a brick. I don't want to move on.
I've used win7 since I upgraded to it from XP and am never "upgrading" further. 7 actually runs almost all software that advertises 10 as its minimum requirement OS and has *much* better backwards compatibility than anything that came after it.
You can also still register an "illegitimate" copy of 7 without any hiccups. Anyone who pays money for an OS is a chump, especially if all that OS does is spy on you.

Don't be confused people, it's not "AI", it's an expensive Google search bar that predicts what you are "likely" searching for. That is the case for all these programs of the AI craze.
The generative ones are basically big libraries of photos that are then put through extreme amounts of visual noise filters and get mixed with one another. All they can do is make the same images they already have in their possession with very slight variations.
Theatricalities and deception works wonders against the uninitiated, but now we're initiated, aren't we Bruce?

If you've noticed, more and more companies are pulling back on the AI, all the big models have stagnated, and investors are beginning to question if it will be a good investment.
I hope so, I work with AI and it is so extremely annoying to see it being shoved everywhere and hyped up so much. ML is really good for image & pattern recognition and some other specific tasks, but for the majority of things, nothing beats a human on the other side of the line (I am looking at you, automated customer service and chat bots that solve nothing)
That's because the innovation is done by the open source models.
These corpos are lobotomizing their AI for censorship then trying to sell a broken product.
I just purposely feed AIs really garbage material and instruction to sabotage their models

I moved my main rig to Arch a few days ago when I realized Windows wasn't being truthful with the amount of RAM in use. It shows about 4ish GB of RAM being used, but most of the RAM besides that is still in use in standby mode, meaning only about a gigabyte of RAM is actually free. That's unacceptable. Arch with KDE is so much nicer, only using about 2ish GB total, no standby BS.
@@knufyeinundzwanzig2004 it is true. Windows has way too many vulnerabilities to be a reliable server. Also you can update windows without restarting your computer, while you can on Linux, meaning the server can stay up without turning off for longer.

I suggest, as a Windows user, jumping to Pop! OS or Mint. You'll need maybe a week to figure out the minor differences and after that it'll be smooth sailing and you can run pretty much whatever you want. Stay away from the Tech Bros though.

I'm perfectly happy with windows 10 because that's what works for me, and I don't want to change my OS and have to find a new workflow. My question is how am I going to stay secure after the date? Linux is absolutely an option since it already has alternatives to Windows software, can run Windows software through WINE, and can run Windows games through Steam Proton. If you’re worried about your workflow, you can theme every aspect of Linux to look identical to Windows. Some desktop environments, like KDE, already look and feel a lot like Windows right out of the box.
You can even boot a Linux distro from a USB stick if you don’t want to clear your hard drive. Windows and Linux aren’t a “one or the other” thing: most Linux users have both. I personally have one hard drive for Linux and one for Windows 10. It works like a charm.
The switch is easier than you think. You just have to make it.

@@chrismaguire3667 Well, Linux programs can and do still have security issues, but their open nature allows it to be patched much quicker. When one bad actor wants to do harm, a thousand developers are there to shut him down
I’d recommend Debian (super easy to use installer, and supported by everything). I personally use Arch though.

AI, getting rid of the vertical taskbar, forcing Microsoft accounts, forcing Bitlocker (this one can be justified on a laptop), forcing TPM and Secure Boot, forcing you to not use a third party start menu app because they want to show you ad space, getting rid of Windows Subsystem for Android (the only Android emulator on Windows that wasn't spyware) because they didn't want to try to improve it, AutoHDR being a broken mess, Windows not even trying with backwards compatibility anymore, the user experience being complete crap with an HTPC or handheld gaming PC setup, endless storage and RAM bloat. Plenty of reasons to not use Windows anymore.
