    1963 was 18 years after the end of WWII. That was not as long a time as it might seem because the consequences of the war didn't end in 1945 but were extended for about one generation, which is roughly 20 years. In other words, they were still trying to shake off the memories of WWII, while at the same time dealing with the current threat of nuclear war with the USSR. The Rocky & Bullwinkle show poked fun at their own fears: 'Isn't that right, darlings'?
    When Rocky launched into the air, wearing flight goggles and going so fast as to trail a black plume and then to enter an out of control vertical dive, Conrad, having served as a fighter pilot in WWII, subconsciously recalled fallen airmen, and when the comic line "Heaven's to Eliza, he's a fuzzy comet" was said, his tension was released with an intense laughter. But if you listen, you can also hear him cry at the same time.

    This is great ! Never thought I'd get to hear the behind the scenes. Paul Frees was a master of voices second only to Mel Blanc in my humble opinion.

    • @macdwhac
      @macdwhac 6 лет назад +6

      That he was! There was a list of the top 10 voices that had Blanc as # 2. Such BS. IMHO Blanc is #1, followed by Paul Frees, Daws Butler, June Foray, Don Messick, Alan Reed (Fred Flintstone), Howard Morris (Ernest T Bass & Atom Ant), Jack Mercer (Popeye), Mae Questel (Olive Oyl) and last but not least Walter Tetley. Tetley was The Great Gildersleeve's nephew Leroy and he also played the wise-cracking grocery delivery boy Julius on the Phil Harris/Alice Faye show; both shows in the golden age of radio. I would also add the original Popeye & Olive Oyl (Bill Costello and Bonnie Poe/Margie Hines)

      If it were nowadays, Captain Peachfuzz would be sued by Rocky for sexual harrassment, in turn Peachfuzz would resign in disgust because an underage male squirrel is being voiced by a well-and-truly adult woman, and the public would sue RUclips because the swear "Hokey Smoke" escaped its all-controlling software and was allowed to go to CC subtitles.
