It's hard to genuinely yell while keeping up a fake voice.
"Delicately adjusting your vocal chords" and "putting all your oomph into screaming" are very much mutually exclusive. I've recognized actors of remarkably different characters just because of their screams; Robin Atkin Downes can't help but use the exact same death shrieks for a German doctor and a Japanese-American soldier.
Blanc’s loud screams translate perfectly to modem ‘loud = funny’ humor.
But in all seriousness, what a legendary voice actor.

There's a reason Looney Tunes is truly timeless in a way most cartoons aren't. It's what I'd call humor that transcends generations. Looney Tunes was funny 80 years ago and it'll be funny still 80 years from today
Screaming loudly will be funny if used right, Looney tunes and old Tomas and Jerry cartoons are real proof of it
Its not really just "loud = funny" but "unexpected but accurate = funny".
You don't expect the characters to just turn into raid sirens, but they usually do it to convey a serious emotion, in which the exaggeration helps convey it.

The funny thing is that out of all the characters he voiced in his career, the character of Dan Backslide from "The Dover Boys" is the only one designed to look like Mel Blanc.
Blanc reprised his roles of Bugs, Daffy, Porky, Sylvester and Tweety for 1988’s Who Frames Roger Rabbit, but famously could no longer voice Yosemite Sam because his screams were too difficult for the aging legend to recreate. With screams like these, it’s a wonder his voice lasted as long as it did!

Everyone is rightly praising Mel's performances, but did anyone elst notice how beauitful the animation is, from the dreamy-to-vivid colors to how the screaming stretches the designs?
Why don't somebody tell me these things?
This was back when cartoons were actually hand-drawn for EACH FRAME. A lot of love and care went into each and every frame since they were all drawn by hand and stitched together during recording.
@@lordpumpkinhead265 They were also made months apart for a single seven minutes, so naturally they had a ton of time for animation. Not making full-length episodes that need to air weekly.

my dad has had a poster framed in his bedroom that's a tribute to Mel Blanc since as long as i can remember, and as a barely-sentient child, i didn't really know who he was at first. 'course, i know how the main roles he was known for, but i definitely think it went underappreciated (or at least, it sure was where i was growing up) just how utterly cracked Mel Blanc was at BEING LOUD, even decades into his career.
that's a skill that sounds super easy until you actually try it, let alone both BEING LOUD and having a good performance despite driving your voice to the maximum. that's a heck of a balancing act, and somehow mel blanc managed to perfect it for entire decades. and somehow without severely degrading the rest of his voice, to boot; that couldn't have been easy!
is this comment rambly? yes. but this video made me think a bit about the genuine talent it took for all these COMICAL SHOUTS to land as good as they did, and i dunno, i just think that's really neat.
