It's been a long time but the FAQ says this: Spell Lores - Change the first sentence to: ‘You can choose or roll for one of the following spells for Vokmortian and each Mortisan in an Ossiarch Bonereapers army.’
Luka, I really do suggest you give the Deathriders a bigger chance, they have amazing mobility, and I believe on damage they do more point for point than Mortek Guard. Even if you don't go all out on the Deathriders, just play a unit of 5 in a list sometime and try them out. I have a single unit of 5 in my list and they have consistently won me games.
Let’s hope I can come up before Christmas. I have two painted armies an I’m proud to flex them after years of painting! Also contrast sped some things along 😅
Hey @MWG Studios , I have a little question regarding Warhammer Fantasy. So in the Lore of Vampires the Spell "Curse of Years" (CoY) states that if successfully cast, you throw a D6 for every model in that unit. On a 6 they suffer a wound. This process is repeated every following Magic Phase (not only my own?). Then it says at the end of each Magic Phase the wounding chance goes up by 1. So 6+ then 5+ and so on until capped at 2+. MY question (assuming it wont get disspelled ever): when I cast CoY in my Magic Phase and do Wounds on 6+ do i do Wounds on 5+ in my enemys Magic phase already or only in my next turn?
regarding the garrisons, I actually like them buffing the reach of the units - especially if they are 2 story. IRL those should have a big impact on the battle
I had a discussion with a games workshop staff member about petrifex, and we thought that the plus to save should have been for anything with 4+ wounds. The lore of petrifex talks about large hulking creatures, so this way the small battline guys (who in our opinion were the most difficult to deal with since they reroll all saves and can be brought back easiest) wouldn’t have it and the things that “needed” it still had it. I’m not saying it wasn’t powerful because it really was, and re roll ones to save is still a good ability, but this would have been more similar to what it used to be
Just a question to anyone that plays Ossiarch Bonereapers, are Nagash and Arkhan the Black viable in armies? This is because I play legions of Nagash and I always use at least one between Arkhan and Nagash because they are my favourite models and I’m thinking about starting Ossiarch Bonereapers.
I would say anything that would give additional Rend, even to just battleline units beats out +1 save to everything, that or Hallowheart for CoS because near unstoppable wizards farting out buckets of mortal wounds on everything is waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than a %16 better save in an all comers scenario
Been getting more and more curious about AoS now that my rage at GW's brutal murder and abominable reanimation of WFB into a poorly balanced skirmish game in order to sell Fantasy Space Marines has had time to cool. I'm discovering that they did away with that absurdly stupid mechanic of "balancing" lists based on Wounds totals, they've undone the daft decision to make each model act as a separate entity, and are really running with the elemental theme of the universe in terms of gameplay by having each realm give special rules to a game. Consider my interest piqued. I'm still angry about the decision to kill Fantasy in order to sell Sigmarines, and the amount of kits that still say they come with square bases on the webstore page does nothing to allay that, but did you know that the new High Elves get a suit of haunted armor as a general? That's pretty metal. Apparently they also enjoy a unique playstyle, which I like in an army. Might be a while before I cave in and actually play the game, but at least I'll have a fun painting project once the box arrives. Anyway, based on the batreps I've seen so far I think I already like the game. I'm noticing a distinct lack of castles because auras have a decent range, and the basic units aren't minimum sized squads of the cheapest filler in the Codex just to fulfill a CP farming requirement. Could be fun.
AoS release was horribly botched & really quite insulting, I agree, but the main guy in charge at GW has changed since then, and the overall attitude of the company has likewise changed quite a bit, and mostly fir the better. Better community engagement, certainly. AoS in particular has developed quite a bit. The core rules are still a bit wonky in a few places, but 2nd edition is an actual game, like that actual people can play, which is like night and day from the state of the game at its initial release. And it's honestly pretty fun. Some balance issues, but no more, and honestly a bit less, than you might expect from a games workshop game. IMO AoS 2e has been better balanced and more fun to play than 8th ed 40k. The competitive scene has certainlt been more positive and upbeat from what I can tell. The setting, which was also woefully underbaked at release, has also filled in quite well. Much more detail for the realms, the peoples living in them, the key characters. Lots of ongoing plot arcs, lots of development in the overall story, which is a nice change compared to old fantasy or pre-8e 40k, where the status quo was atatic and the timeline frozen in place. The overall setting has sort of a planescape feel which is kind of cool. Some of the tie in novels, especially since 2e's release, have been pretty cool. I do miss the old school, ranks & flanks style game. If you don't like AoS, there's lots of other similar alternatives that are pretty good in themselves. Not a lot of great alternatives for ranked battle games. But GW will be releaseing that Old World game in a few years, so maybe we'll get proper warhammer fantasy back in some form. But anyway, yeah, I absolutely understand being angry about how GW threw fantasy battle in the trash, but if that bitterness has faded and you want to take a look at what AoS has become, I think you might be pleasantly surprised,
Check out HeyWoah's 'why play' video series for good summaries on aosfactions, how they play, what their lore is like, etc. They're good videos, qnd give a sense of where armies are at in tge game lately.
@@Malisteen The series intro alone was enough to sell me on playing AoS, thanks for sharing! The FF XIV comparison got to me, because the transformation from a literally unplayable mess to one of the best games in the series in the span of a few years was a magical thing to witness.
I was also pretty salty when they killed Warhammer Fantasy and it took years for me to give AoS a fair shake. What initially sold me on AoS was the gorgeous models and fresh new armies, but man, the rules are also so much better than old WHFB...
quantity has a quality all of it's own that doesn't mean quantity should also improve quality. a liberator may be the equal of 5 goblins but if you have 6 goblins for every liberator you win, that is the idea of quantity over quality. however, the simple fact that you have 30 goblins in a squad means they've all been honed to be more effective than a liberator.
They could have gone about the change a bit more flavourful to not just nuke PE but oh well, would have been nice to see some buffs to ivory host, I knew PE would be more powerful so I've painted everything MP, hopefully they aren't the nail sticking out the most now, next battletome I guess
It would have been MUCH more flavorful with the lore to give the Petrifex +1 AS to models with 4+ wounds that aren't leaders. The Stalliarch Lords and Ivory Host are still secondary. The Praetorians are now the most competitive I think.
Petrifex nerf was needed, but what they went with was *way* overkill. Hekatos discounts are ok, but those units specifically were hit hard by the petrifex nerf as they are already proportionally more fragile for their points than the battleline stuff, and the units in general in OBR are so pricey that a 20 point discount doesn't actually let you fit anything extra in the list. But it is what it is, I can live... unlive? With these changes. hopefully we'll see further poin5s adjustments in the future. Soulreaper & vokmortian need hefty points discounts, hekatos might need further discounts, nagash & arkhan might need discounts too, will have to see how they run without petrifex. Poorly, I expect, but we'llsee.
I love the Ossiarchs but man do they need some new units, its so boring having 1 decent troop choice even if its borderline OP (some would argue very OP lol). As for Petrifax surely making stalkers and guard battleline would be the better choice?
Mathew nailing perfectly two of my biggest gripes with AOS. watching MWG over the years there are just some things about AOS that seem wrong. i've never understood why a blob of 30 gobbos is more dangerous than 6 minotaurs or why those 30 gobbos are just as dangerous to a squad of swordsmen as they are to a giant. the flat to wound just makes it all feel less thematic. minotaurs aren't that great because they hit and wound on 4s, when if you implemented strength and toughness, then they'd still be inaccurate but their strength would allow them to effectively mulch infantry. stuff like this and the fact that i only own discontinued armies is why i haven't tried AOS, and just stick to 40k.
@@GurrenLagann98 Mathew Literally plays the game for a living and said that the fact that 30 gobbos get buffs for being in high numbers makes no sense because the bonus is that they are in high numbers. please watch the video. my comment makes sense if you did.
@@judjementine You were invalidating Wyatt with "Mathew plays for a living". He isn't objective or correct just because he plays the game more. I don't even disagree, that the display of strength is off in this game. I just don't think it's a huge problem.
Seriously ill thought out comments on OBR from the start, firstly Mortis Praetorians have always been a good pick with Katakros in the mix. Secondly Petrifex Elite are not terrible at all, they have been balanced, but still strong.
I agree petrifex elite is still decent especially with the +1 rend command ability but from a lore perspective their now terrible having a reroll 1s in melee is laughable for what was lauded as the more durable subfaction. I personally feel that their command ability should be something like unmovable bulwark where they can increase their save instead of a +1 to rend just to be more lore faithful.
+1 rend is still good, but reroll 1's on saves, in melee only, is redundant on too many units in too many builds. The melee limitation in particular is just insult to injury. But yeah the CA is still good enough to consider them.
We house rule the double turn right out of existence....Worst "feature" of AOS by a long shot IMO. I get they are trying to add "something unexpected happened" to the game but it often becomes so game changing that the outcome was pretty much decided on one roll off.
I'd honestly like it is strength v toughness were added to AoS. And I'd like multidamage attacks to not roll over. Those changes would allow for different kinds of offense and defense with different kinds of counters. In AoS right now, there's no meaningful difference between, say 3+ to hit and 5+ to wound vs 5+ to hit and 3+ to wound. Or between 2 attacks for one damage vs 1 attack for 2 damage. It adds up to a lot of words and a lot of rolls for little to know actual mechanical depth in return. I think you could get good returns on both flavor and tactical depth by bringing back strength & toughness, and ditching damage rollover. I don't think its terrible as is, just some thoughts.
I don't think anybody was crying, but the real reason we ignore the double turn (and even then only when it is totally obvious that someone will win because of it) is because we're trying to create an interesting battle report. That's why we declare a winner and then keep filming. It's a "what if" situation that is meant to make for a more interesting video. If I was playing off camera I would just accept the outcome and move on.
To be fair to MWG here the idea of when someone double turns to win the game, it can turn a very interesting situation into a open and shut way win for one side. In many of my games I have done similar things as it's always interesting to a out the game as if you didn't win the double turn. Prepare for the worst so to speak.
I came across a lot of vague and grey areas with AoS, really like the game but it needs a lot of work. Garrison is not well explained True Line of Sight is a bad mechanic Ranged is insanly strong to this date And a lot more Hope a lot of it will be nerfed/fixed/explained in the near future.
The fact that you said your battle line is 20 Mortek Guard, “like every other Bone Reaper player”, is what is wrong with AoS... such little intra faction list diversity if you want to be reasonable competitive, especially on battle line. Fantasy had way more diversity and even 40k has more... 🙄
TBF OBR has two different battle line choices, and only one can reliably take objectives. it'd be like complaining that Harlequins took troupes or a SM player took intercessors.
The amoumt Mathew whines when he is losing is super annoying. Also the hwole "we will ignore the double turn" is bizzarre, if you dont like the mechanic don't play Sigmar, just seems odd.
Haven’t played warhammer since they blew up the warhammer old world.....watching this battle report I’m glad I haven’t bothered, I’m sorry to say age of sigmar looks complete shit 🤦🏻♂️

That Freeguild Heneral is a Manns Blades Forgeworld Musician, it was the finest looking human fantasy unit ever imo
regarding the garrisons, I actually like them buffing the reach of the units - especially if they are 2 story.
I’m not saying it wasn’t powerful because it really was, and re roll ones to save is still a good ability, but this would have been more similar to what it used to be
Greywater Fastness being outshot!? That’sna grudgin’!
CAN I CONSULT MY LAWYER PLEASE?!
Hahah shooting in AoS makes Matt And Luka dance around like scaredy cats 🐈 😂😂
Been 5 years bro.
theres an old saying "quantity has a quality all of its own" which is why i think the grots get the bonus's for large numbers
quantity has a quality all of it's own that doesn't mean quantity should also improve quality. a liberator may be the equal of 5 goblins but if you have 6 goblins for every liberator you win, that is the idea of quantity over quality. however, the simple fact that you have 30 goblins in a squad means they've all been honed to be more effective than a liberator.
35:32 for the actual first time Luka makes a decision
They could have gone about the change a bit more flavourful to not just nuke PE but oh well, would have been nice to see some buffs to ivory host, I knew PE would be more powerful so I've painted everything MP, hopefully they aren't the nail sticking out the most now, next battletome I guess
Luka, I want to see you use Katakros in a batrep!
there is such a lack of Vito... but that's some GOOD LUKA!!
It would have been MUCH more flavorful with the lore to give the Petrifex +1 AS to models with 4+ wounds that aren't leaders.
The Stalliarch Lords and Ivory Host are still secondary. The Praetorians are now the most competitive I think.
is it just me or is the bottom left of the video slightly blurry? Could just be the mat tho
Ossiarch Bonereapers are experts in Bird Law.
heck yeah i love the bonemancers
So when garrisoned they don't count towards holding objectives, that's the way it works for ko
if there is a spell that removes a model on a 5+ and it targets a garrisoned terrain piece can you remove the whole unit + terrain?
No, the terrain is not a model.
Did I hear that someone thinks the terrain rules for 40k are really good?
Are the Deathriders that bad? They look so cool lol
Endless spells need to be visible to be dispelled
Only at the set up so far. But you can only put 20 wounds in a garrison. So 20 hand gunners not all 30.
The gobos get massive buffs for being in high numbers, while larger models typically do not. It makes sense if you’d try the game.
@@GurrenLagann98 Mathew Literally plays the game for a living and said that the fact that 30 gobbos get buffs for being in high numbers makes no sense because the bonus is that they are in high numbers. please watch the video. my comment makes sense if you did.
@@judjementine people are entitled to different opinions
@@Lodorn yes they are. and i was merely stating how my opinion aligns with what Mathew said his problems were.
@@judjementine You were invalidating Wyatt with "Mathew plays for a living".
He isn't objective or correct just because he plays the game more.
I don't even disagree, that the display of strength is off in this game. I just don't think it's a huge problem.

They count as 1 on the objective. This got faq with karadron overlords
As none. If you use KO for reference
@@tommegens true dident remember that the ship was a model good call
Where helĺblasters and rockets? :(
A better way. Dont Use Garrisons. Just have them be terrain.
Those crystals clash a lot with painted terrain and models. They need to be painted imho.
I think they look fine
Didnt think bonereapers could use realm spells

This catapults just delete daughters of khaine from existance... Why do we keep nerfing them like 3 faqs and 2 ghb in a row?
will you ever return to 8th edition fantasy?
Luka is really damn wishy-washy in this game.
He is normally that way, but damn is it bad in this report.
1:19:54 I literally laughed my ass off
Sad Realmshaper rules noises*
BONESTORM
Endless doody 🤣
We house rule the double turn right out of existence....Worst "feature" of AOS by a long shot IMO. I get they are trying to add "something unexpected happened" to the game but it often becomes so game changing that the outcome was pretty much decided on one roll off.
No S vs T in Sigmar. Ever.
Nooooooo Petrifax Elite is gone it was my favorite
can stop watching at 1:19:00 when they break the core rules and remove double turn and cry about how unfair it is. Up until then the report was fine.
MWG Studios this guy reeks of troll, or just super dense. You explained it in the video and even dictated the moves if you played out the double turn.
Garrison is not well explained
True Line of Sight is a bad mechanic
Ranged is insanly strong to this date
And a lot more
Hope a lot of it will be nerfed/fixed/explained in the near future.
Luka plays like such a weenie, takes hours for his turns, and overexplains EVERYTHING bro. He needs to chill and just play the dice game
Awesome vid!
...third
