- Snowy Owls lead nomadic lives and travel vast distances from year to year searching for productive feeding areas. Some years, most recently in the winter of 2011/2012, conditions cause them to come south in great numbers.
Get an intimate look at these white owls from the north through video and photographs captured by the Cornell Lab's, Gerrit Vyn.

I so love owls but these snowy owls are true gems of nature!
Thank you for the close up look.... beautiful.
Just saw my first Snowy Owl today at Little Talbot Island state park near Jacksonville, FL. Only the 3rd confirmed sighting in Florida. A great life bird to add and right in my backyard!
Wow, you are a priviliged guy...snowy owl...in Florida.
I just could not help but to snicker when I saw some of their faces since I've seen similar looks from humans before their morning coffee. XD
AetherDreamSeeker Eh? Humans do not look drop dead gorgeous and stunning in the morning, afternoon and evening, except for a few.
What a magnificent creature . So impressive and powerful !
their eyes are beautifully made, god bless them.
Beautiful video! I saw my first Snowy Owl on Sunday at Sachuest Point in Rhode Island. It was so special.
That means your gonna become exceedingly wealthy!!
OH my!! That would be nice :)
OMG
Remarkable. Thanks to the dedicated ornithologists at the Cornell Lab!
Well, for those in the southern portions of the United States, we could have bird feeders, and make a small habitat for SnowOwl packs. This will give a nice natural attraction, and possibly help in a small amount to prevent these birds from going instinct.
extinct maybe
Remarkable photos
Remarkable Snowy Owls
Thank you 🎉
The Snowy owls this they the Wonderful the Angels !.This Documentary is Gorgeous for the eyes !.
Thank you for this wonderful video and educating us about the mysterious and captivating , snowy owl.
Amazingly clear video and photos of the snowy owl. A very beautiful bird of prey.
Gorgeous photography, thanks!
Absolutely. I can see why so many people are enamored by this bird. It truly is unique and not only does it have the mystical lure of owls in general, that old, wise character, but that brilliant white color and the dark barring with those piercing yellow eyes and fury feet that hide those sharp talons for weapons, add to that allure. Not to mention the incredible hunting prowess these magnificent raptors possess.
GoMiGman straight up
Thank you for filming and sharing these very wonderfull and beautyfull snowy owls. They are very awesome.
Joey Gravins Yes--Thank you! These are my favorite creatures; as an artist, I often draw/paint them. In fact, one was on my Xmas card this year!

Such a beautiful animal, we have an Animal Ambassador named Yeti, he's a snowy owl who meets with kids in schools and at community events to inspire them to take action to protect biodiversity. Snowy owls are so astoundingly beautiful that everyone that meets Yeti can't help but be awed by the wonders of nature.
Omg that’s so beautiful can u put a picture ????
Most human-like eyes of any bird, I would think.
Saw my first Snowy just this year, in Michigan. Absolutely stunning.
Such a magnificent raptor. When I host my Snowy Owl Photography Workshops in Ontario Canada guests have the opportunity to Snowy Owl Wildlife Models. They are simply amazing photographed in their natural environments and it saves stressing these owls in nature.
These owks are Beautiful!
I was looking in to joining this collage when I'm a bit older, I love these documentarys about raptors. They're just so beautiful.
Spectacular.
Awesome !! I live on Vancouver Island, and watching the news, saw the report on the "Owl Invasion " in Ladner , on the mainland. Why didn't they stop here for a visit ?? The only one I've ever seen in the wild, was in Manitowadge Ontario, when I lived there in '70-'71. Beautiful , and awe inspiring experience !!
A snowy owl was just down the road often on the same powerpole….watching the grassy field for food…..it was there for two years.. but havent seen it since..this was around 2010.’its 2023 now but I have moved since then so maybe its still hanging around! The snowy owl was in west michigan about five miles from Lake Michigan in muskegon county.
Absolutely remarkable

Magnificent, stunning and fabulous birds! The cats of the skies.
I loved the commentary on pack ice foraging in the dark of the Arctic winter. It opened up a new facet of wonder for me about these great birds. I hope one day to see one in person. Thank you!
We have an immature male snowy owl in Jasper County, Mo., in far southwest Missouri who has been here for about a month. I've seen him and photographed him three times. I'd video him, but I don't have nearly the equipment this person has. Beautiful job.
Amazing video and one can learn a lot about these beautiful snowy owls even just by watching this video! Love it!

An extremely beautiful and well done video. Thanks.
Great video!
i saw one in new york city, on the top edge of a highrise building. some seagulls were harassing it. he casually reached out and grabbed one, and ate it. about 15 years ago.
it was bigger than i had thought from books. five years earlier, i saw one on a distant fencepost in a field in hopewell, NJ. it never moved. both sightings were late january.
I just saw one yesterday in Fifty Lakes Minnesota. By far the most beautiful bird I've ever seen in my life!!
Wonderfully done. Thank you for passing this alone.
Beautiful. I spotted one (my first ever :) in my field at woods edge, in SW New Hampshire, this past Monday, Jan. 30, 2012. I could hardly believe my eyes! Then, late that night I heard the "whistle" call, repeated for several minutes.
Absolutely beautiful! Fantastic video and photo's of an amazing bird.
Amazingly beautiful. Hoping for more sightings this winter season!
Wow, I honestly didn't know that this has happened before. Those feathers are so soft, you have no idea what's coming from behind.

What a video! This certainly is a majestic bird and one that I get excited to see every time it comes south. The last time I saw one was ~1995 along the NJ coast.

A majestic bird indeed. How thrilling it would be to see one.
Nicely done, Gerrit!
ROFLMAO! I'm sorry, but I was feeling down, and looking at the amazing owls cheered me up.
So beautiful, what a joy to see them in the wild.

Fantastic video with excellent commentary. I will use this at school (I am a teacher). We are seeing Snowy Owls here in Middletown, RI this year (Late Nov. early Dec.) at Satchuest Point Wildlife Refuge.
Beautiful, hope to see a Snowy Owl on the shores of Lake Michigan.
We have had several in our area (SW IN) this winter. It has been such fun seeing them up close like your video. Fabulous Vid.

Heard about the sudden burst of the snowy owl population from the Lancaster bird club. It was a good lemming season last year. I'm looking forward to seeing one!
Fabulous!
They're such beautiful animals, probably the best looking birds on the planet I reckon. I remember the delightful sight the first time I saw them for real at the raptors center in Vermont, 1998.
So Very beautiful .
So beautiful....♡
Beautiful birds. Great video.
The most famous snowy owl! :D
Wow! Beautiful birds!
Just exquisite! saw only one in my life in CT. I am melting with love.
Really nice work on this video. These are easily the most beautiful of all raptors - and a terrifying sight for the poor Lemming that makes up most of its normal diet.
Excellent photography - congratulations!!
They are amazing!
great images, thanks
Just so gr8 and beautiful owl, my absolute favourite
Excellent video, very informative. Thank you Cornell.
Fasination is not the word.. love them

Beautiful video, thank you
Ever since the fourth grade, I made an article on them for my class and loved them every since.
I agree, Beautiful...
Great. Made my day (and it's only just begun).
I love snowies. For a owl they are the best. They are allowed to be hunted in Alaska for native subsistence reasons which really is weird
Wonderful video! Love it!
I saw one in KC the other day. On the map it would have been right between smithville lake and swope park.
