Thanks for the video. I share your enthusiasm for these fine owls. In 1973, I found an abandoned short-eared owl and raised it successfully before releasing it. It would come when called at night and alight on my bare arm without a scratch. A rare and blessed experience.
Wow, that does sound like a memorable experience!
Stefano your enthusiasm is so infectious and this video is just fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing. Good luck with your next shared challenge.
Thanks a lot for watching!
That was a superb watch Stefano! Such an array of birds, that many Shorties in one place with a beautiful location and light was awesome! Topped with a few mammal species, I’d say that was a successful day! Love environmental shots and you’ve done the birds justice! Great work as always! I’m moving from the UK to southern Ontario next year! Hope to get out in your beautiful country and experience some cracking wildlife! Cheers R 👍
I'm not a birder but watching your videos, I get it! Your photos are beautiful and the subjects extraordinary - both the winged ones, and the 4 legged ones. Again, your photography and short videos are wonderful. I paint landscapes. 😊
Thanks Stefano for the the entertaining video and story. Yes! More of this!👍
Excellent video! Thanks for taking me along!
I just found your channel by way of Badgerland birding and, lol and behold you live in my neck of the woods, Ontario, Canada. I used to see northern harriers often around here, in farm country jusr west of Toronto. Not any more. A certain huge conglomerate has created the corn to grow so densely that there's no way for them to hunt here. If we went off the beaten path more we'd probably find them but we are not young anymore (70), and I'm disabled. So I'm now armchair birding, first with Badgerland (just the past few days) and now you. Thanks for sharing your beautiful photography and experiences.
I had no idea you knew about Badgerland Birding! Awesome video!
Yup! 🙂 Thanks for watching!
Wow! To see that many Short-eared Owls when you have previously never seen one would be amazing! I love the pictures of them against the pink sky!
Yes I got super lucky! So glad you enjoyed the photos
I've been to that island and it's so much fun birding there. I really enjoy watching you find your lifers, it's such a great feeling.
Thanks so much! Glad you're enjoying it. It's so rewarding checking them off the lifelist.
Oh goodness! I love the Snowy owl and the Short-eared Owls photos!
The shots of the owls was magical holy mole
So everybody is using Ebird now, great! By the way the Short eared owl is my lifer too, but it is extremely difficult to find one as it is always come along with ship or something in my country, and thankfully , your owls are truly beautiful, i love how they blend into the environment!
Yup, it's awesome!
I love owls, so thank you for sharing you wonderful videos and photos.
Your videos are the best. Such a nice mix of interesting storyline and gorgeous photography/videography.
This owl is a funny one- even though its the rarest native owl in the UK is definitely the owls that's seen the most by birders- being commonly around and on salt marshes is probably the reason for it.
You got your Short-eared Owl, all seven of them. Great experience. Very cool! 👍😎
Thanks so much!!
Hope you enjoyed this challenge! Don't forget to check out Badgerland Birding to see how they did: ruclips.net/video/SalaFqyX7tA/видео.html
Beautiful place there my favourite! Thank you so much sir.
Thanks for watching!
I live in town but at end of street. The land by me is wooded. I see deer daily, I have seen sooo many animals in my yard the past 3+yrs. A pair of large hawks live in woods across street, visiting my yard daily. I’ve seen two offspring from them. Farther back is an owl that has lived in same area 3yrs. Summer brings 100+ hummingbirds some different colors but all r small. Hatchlings each summer. Raccoon, possum, brown squirrel, large fox squirrel, wild Ginny, bluebirds, cardinals, brown thrashers, Bluejays, many type finches, all have hatchlings in yard each summer. I have a pair of LARGE WOODPECKERS. THAT WERE almost extinct in Georgia. (Size of a crow). Male has red mustache. Next 20feet in old tree across fence. “They” shocked me and have remained so far. Coyotes, wolfs, wild dove, quail, butterflies galore. Turkeyand more. Most I see from chair on front porch or dining room window sitting at table. Hummingbirds come to window , sit on branch I placed thereto watch us eat. I’m thinking of building a tall pole to let down and place meat on it to feed hawks. Perhaps next summer. I tame wild animals.
I love your birding expeditions! All the best!
Thanks so much!
Fantastic video Stefano. congrats on the Shorty sighting. Beautiful images.
Thanks so much!
LOL- I have about 6 limpkins that live in my neighborhood in Florida- they howl all night long😁 as always, another great video
I'm sure that like many others I came across your page because of your most recent pond video however, since that I've found your bird watching/ photography content very inspiring. As somebody born and raised next door in Ontario with similar dreams and goals as to what it sounds like you'll be integrating more in your new homestead, it's very refreshing to see somebody sharing their genuine passion in such a respectful way. Keep up the amazing work I can't wait to see what the future has in hold for you, your home and family.
Great video and amazing pictures! Thanks for sharing :)
Literally teared up while watching this ! your enthusiasm and love to detail in all your videos is exceptional ! Thank you
Congratulations! That would be a lifer for me too. It's always impressive to see how howls can spot you from far away. There are a few times where they looked right in your lens. Great video again!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, your photos and videos are stunning! You deserve more subscribers
So glad you enjoy, thank you!
I've just discovered your channel via RUclips suggestion, and I've loved it! Congrats on stunning images and on the birding content. Greetings from Brazil
Stefano, thanks so much for this video. Your enthusiasm for the Short-eared Owl is infectious! I hope to see this species in flight one day.
i’ve been binging your videos. i live in singapore and we don’t have such diverse wildlife as this. Really love the quality!
I've been there 3 times this year. I was completely skunked on owls the last time but the two times before we saw a snowy each time and multiple short eared owls, the latter was a first for me. I'm hoping to get back there next week to try to get some better pics. I'm just getting into photography so I need all the practice I can get. It's really an amazing place, I'm very lucky to have a place like that less than an hour away.
I've just subscribed, keep up the great work. I really enjoy your videos and am learning a lot from them!
Thanks so much! Happy to hear you’re enjoying the videos. And it seems like many people in the area get their lifer SEOWs there. After visiting I can see why haha
Fantastic video as usual Stefano and congrats on the Short-eared Owls. Love watching these, always inspires me to get out and see what I can find. Stay safe and have a great year of birding!
Thanks so much! And same you, happy birding!
Beautiful video! Love the Shorties.
Amazing shots Stefano! One of my first 'birder' birds was a Hawaiian Owl (SEO sub-species) in Haleakala Crater in Maui. It circled around for a bit and then charged down into the side of the crater to grab a rodent, 20 yds below me. A magnificent bird. Unsurprisingly I haven't seen one since, but even in that moment I knew I'd seen something spectacular. Keep the vids comin!
Wow, that sounds incredible!
Always enjoy your videos and photos so much!! Thank you for sharing them with us.
Happy to hear! Thanks for watching!
Great Video. Thanks for this.. I love that Island been there a couple if times lately The Owls are far away, one guy had a great closeup on the woodpile. .
Loved this. Have a couple locally - Baildon, Yorkshire. Sitings are always exciting.
stunning photography, l have just come across your channel, love it, also your calming voice is a plus too 🙂
I just love your work. Short-eared owl is also a lifer for me
Thank you!
Absolutely love the pic of the owl flying, turning his head and looking right at you. Beautiful.
Thanks so much!
Wow, short eared owls! A winter migrant in India here and seen in quite different habitat compared to where you saw them. But as always amazing shots!🤩😍🤩😍
Not only photos but yours videos are also amazing. Love too watch more. Love from India mate
Thanks so much!!
Hey Nice to see your channel doing so well! Spectacular footage you've taken, we love that island also! when we were there last we had over 25 owls of 5 different species. Would be cool to get together one time and do an episode together!
@Text me on Telegram👉@StefanoIaniro hello!
Thank you for sharing your video's and photos 👀🙂
That fence line with the owls was beautiful! I love the fox as well!
Wow you guys have good eyes. Good job.
The Northern Harrier...my new addiction. Love the slow motion clips 👌
Thank you! I’m hoping I can film some Northern Harriers this spring!
Great vid. Still need a Shorty for my life list.
Thanks so much! Hopefully you can get one!
Beautiful cinematography and storytelling. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much!
Great video! and I love the challenge with Bagerland Birding what a great time.
Great collaboration!
Wow! So many short eared owls. Really cool birding outing and video stefano!
Thanks buddy! Finished the evening with about 10 of them!
It is so good to see your vlogs. I enjoy the wildlife of OUTSIDE INDIA while sitting at home. Thanks to you.
So glad you enjoyed it!
It’s been a great year for Shorty’s, Northern Harrier’s, and Rough-legged Hawks! I got my best footage of Shorty’s this year and currently working on a rough-legged Hawk video. Congratulations on your Lifer!
That’s awesome! Happy to hear you’re finding success with them. Good luck on the videos!!
Great video capture.
That's a location on my list of places to get to. Congrat's on getting a lifer. Great photo's of the Short Eared. I saw my first one (actually 3) last weekend. Very exciting.
That's awesome! Congrats on the lifer!!
Glad you had a nice visit to the Island, We live about an hour away so we visit a few times a year. Last visit I scored the hatrick you were after plus some fox. A few days before we were completely skunked but that's wildlife photography and the way it should be. Over the last few years the Island has become very popular and unfortunately some photographers have been baiting owls and trespassing on private property. Rightfully so ,many locals are getting tired of unethical visitors to this special place.
Yeah that's horrible. I can understand locals getting tired of that. My first day there was a Sunday, and there were a lot of people, especially for an island of that size.
Lovely vlog as usual. Awesome.
So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 🙂
Lovely video. Glad you got your lifer. So nice to see some Canadian footage.
Thank you!
That was a really fun video! Heading over to Badgerland Birding now. My list of channels is getting as long as my bird list!
Thanks so much! Haha, always new lifers to find!Enjoy their videos 🙂
Great to see this collab. Two great channels and lots of great birds.
Thanks so much!
Great vidéo !
Lovely photos !
Thank you!!
@@StefanoIaniro You're welcome !
Ahhhh, awesome! Was nice meeting you Stefano and happy that you didn't see the short eared right after we left! 😉
Thanks, Wayne! It was great to meet you too. I was telling my girlfriend it was a shame the owls weren’t out for us the day before. We were the only people there on the evening we saw them
@@StefanoIaniro I know...and that beautiful sky! I'm sure that it was the wind keeping them in the trees! Happy for you though! Take care Stefano!
@@waynearchibald3920 Thanks! Happy birding!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
I lifered SEO a couple weeks ago, and they really are magical, especially in the evening light
Great video. Really enjoyed the Short-eared Owl footage. I’ve tried a few times in Michigan this winter with mixed results. Nicely done!
So glad you enjoyed it!
always interesting my friend! I really like challenges! Merci Stéph ! 🎥🎥🎥
Thanks so much!!
The short eared owl caught face on is spectacular. Sadly in Manitoba, they're listed as "threatened" by provincial authorities and as species of "special concern" by the feds, with numbers declining by 30% per decade largely due to habitat loss and pesticides. Hopefully, your lovely images will remind us that we need to do more to protect them.
Yes, such a shame how much of a hit grassland birds have taken. Thanks for the comment!
Some birds are impossible to find here in Italy, so thanks for sharing, it's always wonderful seeing what there's in nature.
Thanks for watching!
Lovely video Stefano, Got a Saw-Whet owl last week in Vancouver, and now I'm heading off to try and get my nemesis bird, the Northern shrike, which has eluded me for many days now!
Thanks! And that’s awesome on the Saw-whet. Good luck with the Shrike 🙂
Another great video!
Thanks so much, Francis!
In my neck of the woods. Cool! Love your videos and enthusiasm. They are the main reason I decided to upgrade my kit and get out to focus my love of photography on the amazing birds in our area. Really looking forward to spring when things get busy. This is a great new hobby for me now that I am in my senior years. Thank you for the inspiration. I eagerly watch for your newest videos.
You started at the perfect time. I always recommend for people starting bird photography to start in the wintertime. Gives time when things are slower to learn your camera and practice different techniques, so that come the busy time in the spring, you're well prepared! Hope you have a productive springtime!
@@StefanoIaniro thank you. That's exactly what I was thinking and I have switched my Nikon to "M" and that's where it's going to stay. I don't know why I was so afraid of manual for all these years. Back button focus too. I love it. It has been relatively quick learning curve and has been a nice workout for this old brain. Love your videos. Keep them coming.
@@TomKTM400 Thanks so much! And that’s great that you’re picking up those quick. Took me forever to make the jump to M when I was starting off. If you haven’t already, give full manual but with Auto ISO a try. That’s how I do majority of my shooting for both photos and videos. Works well for a lot of situations. Take a look into it to see if it fits your needs!
@@StefanoIaniro Yup, already using auto ISO and I like it. I have watched ALL of your videos and dozens of others picking everyone's brain for the best ideas. I really like your approach and your ethic. Always putting the well being of the subject ahead of your need to get that perfect picture. I am going to try some video too just to mix it up a bit. We put up wood duck boxes last month and I plan to set my pop-up blind nearby and see what I can capture. Ducks Unlimited just rebuilt their dam on our family property so the waterfowl population should be awesome this coming year. Happy birding!
That means a lot, thank you! Sounds like you have a sweet setup to get some great shots. Goodluck and happy birding!
We have Northern Harriers here in Arizona and I've gotten a few pictures of them. Beautiful birds.
Agreed!
Other than photography Stefano happiness exists in his gurl ❤ I mean i can see you blushing on day 2 😂
Pov : Love ya both
Only place I've seen a snowy is in my dreams, literally.
Hopefully one day you can see one!
Great challenge - great animals! Big like and kind regards, Rolf
Thanks for the link to BB. As a Wisconsinite that's new to photographing birds, I'm excited to check out a local channel.
You’ll enjoy it. A ton of fun birding adventures!
This vlog is sublime
Thanks!
This is awesome!!
Thanks so much!
amazing sighting off the short eared owls ! enjoyed it so much
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Dang you're crushing these owl lifers, congrats!
Haha thank you! I’m running out of owl lifers in the area though!
@@StefanoIaniro youre welcome! sounds like it! What all do you have left? Need to send some more owls down this way
Long-eared should be doable, and the much trickier Boreal Owl. That'll round out all my eastern owls. Hope some come your way!
@@StefanoIaniro oh yeah i bet you could get a long-eared. good luck on those! And thanks!
Love the video, love the owls. I am trying to find owls as well but these animals are so sneaky lol. Didn’t manage to see one just yet but I won’t give up searching.
Thanks for watching! Fingers crossed you get your first one soon!
Dude great job! Loved the video format and gorgeous subjects. My folks live by Kingston and I'm hyped you were there! Was this Wolfe Island you were on? Would love to know where to look for these guys next time I'm home!
Thanks so much! No, this wasn't Wolfe. I thought about going but got kinda mixed reviews from my buddies that live in the area. This was just west of there!
Very cool video
Great video! I'd love to see a short-eared owl one day, but sadly they are super rare here in Southern Germany. Also the seems to be a LOT more nature in North America, it's like a dream, I can't even imagine it. Hopefully I can visit this beautiful continent one day. Keep up the great work, I always enjoy your videos!
Thanks so much! I’m sure you’d love it here 🙂
love your video! every single time! and im happy youre posting them in your stories on instagram cuz youtube somehow doesnt always suggests them to me
also what i like most about your content is that you create quality stuff without having to disturb the animals! ethics should be the biggest priority in wildlife photography and i try to emphasize that on my instagram...not many people i consider being on the ethical level i like to see, so kuddos to you for being one of them :)
and i really like the piano music you've used start at 8:38...is that from epidemic? is is cool if i ask you for the name? cuz i really liked it :)
Thanks so much, that really means a lot! The music is from Artlist and that song is called "Autumn Wind by Yehezkel Raz
@@StefanoIaniro big thanks for answering and sharing the music! havent checked out artlist yet but im hearing quite a bit about it..might consider using it for my videos as well. will research this first, but if you have a promo link that helps you if i sign up through it, feel free to share that. i'd rather use your link and help you than just sign up and not have them know you sent me haha :)
@@Kurzlun No worries! And thanks so much, there is a link in the description of all of my videos that would give us both 2 extra months if you sign up. It’s under the video gear section of my description. But check out the software first to see if it fits your needs!
The short eared owl is cool
Watching this makes me so jealous being from the UK…
I’m not familiar with their European range. Aren’t short-eared owls in the UK too?
Really beautiful these short-eared owl, also one of the must sees in winter here in Europe, providing there is a good mouse year.
Agreed, they really are stunning!
Good mouse year? What is that?
A good rodent year means rodent populations are high.
@@StefanoIaniro Thanks for this tip. I will use this here as well.
Oh man, owls like weeds ... great video #happybirding
Haha yup, like a dream! Thanks!
I love the seagulls
Amazing commentary! I can see why you have 36k subs!
So glad you enjoyed it. Thank you!
Cool! I visit this island and its great for the species you managed to capture so well! I plan to head there this coming weekend...(2 weekends ago the ferry had issues and I was forced to return 1 hour prior to sunset...the opportune time for SEO's! Keep doing your wonderful vlogs, Stefano.
Thanks so much! The day we arrived in Ontario was when I filmed the intro for this video, and that was the day that ferry was having issues. So I kinda got lucky I didn’t head there the first day. Hope you still found some other interesting species!
@@StefanoIaniro We were there the same day! Maybe we will have opportunity to meet someday to enjoy the challenges of wildlife photography 😊
@@Neil_C Definitely!
Awesome congrats for your lifer
Thanks!
Awesome video, Stefano! We’ll trade you our Northern Harrier for your Northern Shrike!
Hahaha, deal!
So awesome to watch the shorties in flight! What were your settings when you filmed them?
Thanks! All of it was in 4k 120fps, f/6.3, 1/250th, and Zone AF. ISO was Auto as the light kept changing.
@@StefanoIaniro thanks! The slow-mo looks great!
@@kentross1134 Thank you!
Would like to see an update on the pool when you get back
Loved the video as always
Yup, I should be doing a winter update! Still cold and not much around but we’ll see what we can get
@@StefanoIaniro OK
Amazing video as always! What island in Ontario was this if I may ask?
