Glad to say I currently overhaul these cool machines :) for the Dash-8 and CRJ series. not exactly the coolest feature of an aircraft to work on but someone's gotta do it
Very descriptive and patient your explanations are great and you make this subjects very easy to understand i really enjoy watching your videos keep up the good work :)
Excellent work👌 just i have a question about temperature in the outlet of the primary heat exchanger and how it can be calculated Thank you for your answer ❤❤
There may be external air conditioning units which would supply cold air directly to the mixer unit. Or bleed air is supplied to the Air Cycle Machine to achieve cooling through air expansion in the turbine
Is that the reason it looks like there's an outdoor unit on the jet bridge/passenger boarding bridge? is it because it's giving cold air to the airplane?
thank you for the great explanation. but how does the volume of air remain constant in the mixer unit and in the aircraft? air is just coming in, but i dont see where excess air is supposed to go out from.
I mean, if you follow the dark blue arrows in the diagram @4:00, the cooled air from the turbine is fed into the mixer unit, and into the aircraft. But there's no air coming out of the [mixer unit + aircraft] system. So where does the warmer air from the cabin go to?
could you please explain what is the filtered air you mentioned in the end of the video? Is it the old air already remain in the cabin before the new air delivered? Thanks a lot.
Sir do aeroplane still gets the air in... Incase ac stops working though the temperature inside may get high... And the plane is either on land or in air ..do these inlet still supply the outside air without any cooling or sucking of air inside?
I would like to thank but , but I cannot. You are missing to explain some major points. one of them, where the energy comes from to rotate shaft? How the turbine expansion gives enough torque to compressor? Can you explain from the aspect of conservation of energy and thermodynamic laws?
I don't know from which aircraft is this air-conditioning system but on 737 is for sure air in primary heat exchanger not cooled from fan air. Fan air is part of pneumatic system. Fan air is cooling the supply of bleed air to air duct in pylon trough pre-cooler.
Thank you but there are some missing parts, like condenser and reheater also there are some mistakes in your graphics like cooling air for PHC and location of water separater. Good luck
Think you are referring to the air conditioning system which has a vapor cycle machine. The system which I have shown is the one with an Air Cycle Machine, or ACM.
Hi Sir, I Am doing a work for my Bachelors Degree, and I need to talk in my final paper about this system. Is it possible if you could send me a link where I can get access this information. Thank you
Hello I am working B737-700. One problem our plane during on ground in the Cabin very hot not cooling. We cleaned water separator coalescer bag. Still hot in Cabin. After take off normal cooling cabin.
You probably have a worn out air cycle machine. The acm is pushed harder on the ground than in the air because on the ground the outside air is warmer than at altitude.
Excellent presentation of a complex system. However there are still some downstream portions that need clarification. The kind of filters used to because in the cannibals HEPA, and not very effective for microbe filtration, The air flow is also very poor because it is a vortical flow not laminar or horizontal There is recovery time with open aircraft when boarding and unboarding. Over all while effective cooling system for comfort it is not very specialized in in microbe or viral prevention which still makes flying unsafe..
You're right. For example the water separator is upstream the turbine and not downstream. Also the second stage heat exchanger and the trim air are missing. The ram air is used to cool down the heat exchangers.. it's a bit a disaster 😂
Glad to say I currently overhaul these cool machines :) for the Dash-8 and CRJ series. not exactly the coolest feature of an aircraft to work on but someone's gotta do it

Very good explanation, but what happens when the outside temperature is hot? How air conditioning system works while the plane is on ground?
There may be external air conditioning units which would supply cold air directly to the mixer unit. Or bleed air is supplied to the Air Cycle Machine to achieve cooling through air expansion in the turbine

Make one video about vapour cycle air conditioning system
Sure. Will note it!
Great video! Had a question about whether there is a condenser because a few of the AGU diagrams we are covering in my class have a condenser.
That's a different kind of air conditioning system, called as the Vapor Cycle Machine.
Thats for reciprocating engines
thank you for the great explanation. but how does the volume of air remain constant in the mixer unit and in the aircraft? air is just coming in, but i dont see where excess air is supposed to go out from.
From the mixer unit, air is continuously supplied to the aircraft cabin.
I mean, if you follow the dark blue arrows in the diagram @4:00, the cooled air from the turbine is fed into the mixer unit, and into the aircraft. But there's no air coming out of the [mixer unit + aircraft] system. So where does the warmer air from the cabin go to?
@@estherauyong4941 Some of the air flows back into the mixer unit after filtration and the remaining air is let out by the outflow valve!
@@JxJAVIATION I see.. Thank you for the explanation :) 👍
The No Bleed system is the future.
The 787 has it.
All aircraft must now follow.
It is a no-brainer.
Yes. A glimpse of the future!
could you please explain what is the filtered air you mentioned in the end of the video? Is it the old air already remain in the cabin before the new air delivered? Thanks a lot.
Most of the air from the cabin is vented out. Some of the air is recirculated through different filters which is called as filtered air.
Could you please make a vdo on vapour cycle Air conditioning system?? Plz!
Have noted it. Will make one on VC Air Conditioning soon!
Sorry, as my experience, on a 320 the water seperator is after the compressor and before the turbine of the acm is it correct?
Its just after the turbine as that's where the condensation happens!
Can you explain ac works in turboprop?
will do that in later video
PERFECT. THANK YOU!
Welcome!
Thank you! Now back to AE
That's great1
Thanks. Good lesson.
You are welcome!
beautifully explained
Thank you! Do Check out my other videos as well!
Interesting, if I’m understanding it correctly there is no refrigerant like in a standard air conditioner, air IS the refrigerant?
yes that is correct
Sir do aeroplane still gets the air in... Incase ac stops working though the temperature inside may get high... And the plane is either on land or in air ..do these inlet still supply the outside air without any cooling or sucking of air inside?
it all depends on the temperature inside the aircraft. if it is too hot then more cold air is sent inside.
3:46 What is filtered air taken from the aircraft? I mean i couldn't understand this part. Great topic by the way.
Air that is inside the cabin is filtered and mixed with air from engine, cooled then pumped back to cabin again
@@henrytsao1 Thanks!
@@henrytsao1 why does the air inside the cabin needs to be filtered again?
The air from the cabin is "impure air" so needs to be filtered for recirculation
@@JxJAVIATION I think that’s where the HEPPA filters are fitted
Good video. What about the "bypass valve"? Where is it located?
Thanks.
Thank you! Check out my other videos as well! The bypass valve comes between the compressor and the turbine of the air cycle machine.
@@JxJAVIATION Thanks! Surely, I will check.
is bypass valve the thing that controls how warm the air is
❤thank you so much
I would like to thank but , but I cannot. You are missing to explain some major points. one of them, where the energy comes from to rotate shaft? How the turbine expansion gives enough torque to compressor? Can you explain from the aspect of conservation of energy and thermodynamic laws?
Hello,
I am a bit confused, where are the packs? aren't they used in air conditionning system? thanks
The unit which has the air cycle machine is called as the Pack!
Superb video
Thank you! Do check out my other videos as well!
Can you also provide detailed presentation about VCM (also a type of air conditioning in aircraft)
I have noted it down. Will do something on it soon.
I don't know from which aircraft is this air-conditioning system but on 737 is for sure air in primary heat exchanger not cooled from fan air. Fan air is part of pneumatic system. Fan air is cooling the supply of bleed air to air duct in pylon trough pre-cooler.
I will need to check the Air Conditioning System on the 737, but the basic concept would be the same for the Air Cycle Machine.

Me too think there’s refrigerant in the compressor…thank you 😊
there is a refrigerant
the air is the refrigerant☠️
The question i m occupied with is that why we cool down the bleed air and depressurized it just to heat it and pressureize agai?
very nice. what do you use for your illustration software?
This is MS Whiteboard!
How do you make this animation? Which software is used? Pls share
Thank you but there are some missing parts, like condenser and reheater also there are some mistakes in your graphics like cooling air for PHC and location of water separater. Good luck

So it means the working refrigerant is air
yes!
lol so weird
I guess this is because outside air is cold enough that it doesn't need latent heat of evaporation to help the movement of the heat
HOW THE RAM AIR GET COOL AIR WHEN THE AIRPLANE IS ON GROUND?
I AM STUDING FOR MY A&P LICENSE
They use APU
