Their secret, contingency, and emergency bases were interesting. Palpatine had plans ready yet many would never be known since they weren't for the empire to seem dumb.
Right... Nobody needs to know that their Emperor lost his mind when the Jedi attacked him. Got it. 🫡🤐 Wait. No, sorry. I MEANT to say that most people wouldn't understand His Majesty's ECCENTRIC BRILLIANCE... Yes. If anyone disagrees with Papa Palpatine's vision, they lack his, uh, eccentric brilliance... That's it then. 😁😇
I have always believed & maintained that Grand Admiral Thrwan (especially in his original novel portrayal) was Himself an Imperial “Secret Weapon,” he was a quick adapting, mobile command and control center, with bolstered Imperial factions’ morale by his mere presence.
The Maw, the Deep Core, and the Unknown Regions are all super interesting to me cause they’re all mysterious in unique ways that seem to contradict every understanding of physics and the Force. They carry a sense of doom and living close to the beginning or the end of time and space. And the Emperor decided to construct bases in those places lol.
I agree. In particular, the MAW should have been a DUMB place to build any kind of research location, unless that research was in understanding black holes. Why? Time dilations. The closer you are to a massive gravity well, the slower your personal time runs in comarison to those further away. Seems like a dumb place to have someone research war-winning weapons, since the time dilation could result in the facility finishing the projects in time (pun intended) for your grandchildren to get them.
One correction Eckhart. Rancor Base was built by Warlord Zsinj, not Palpatine. The Imperials had built a Prison on Dathomir and a Spaceport. As Gethzerion grew in power Palpatine grew concerned that she and her cadre of Nightsisters might become a threat if they decided to leave the planet and form a power base in the galaxy, but he also didn't want to kill them in case they might prove useful one day. Zsinj solved this problem with ruthless efficiency, by orbitally bombarding the spaceport and any spaceworthy ships on the world, thus stranding the Nightsisters, but keeping them alive should there ever be a use for them. Palpatine was so pleased with this solution, he awarded Zsinj command of Brawl and promoted him to Grand Moff. Zsinj built his secret shipyards and HQ above Dathomir due to the relative obscurity of the world and starting mining operations on one of Dathomir's moons shortly after he became a Warlord.
I would really like to see a video on Galius rax. I found him a really interesting villain as an imperial who was a master manipulator and skilled in espionage
That artwork for the Maw Installation is absolutely gorgeous! I would have added the Hand of Thrawn Fortress, and Nirauan in general, depending on whether you think the Empire of the Hand counts as part of the Empire proper or not. Either way, leave it to Thrawn to make *his* secret base a library.
I'd be down to see a video about Palpatine's ambitions for the Unknown Regions in canon. I'm a fan of what he was looking for being Exegol, I just wonder how well that works with canon now with stuff like Lords of the Sith and implications there
If there's one thing I always get a kick out of with legends, it's that they've got a TON of contingencies and secret facilities that folk like Luke or Han just happen to find by sheer luck. So glad we're getting one of these facilities in Bad Batch
It's ridiculous that people just randomly stumble across these places. But I've always loved the lost base/science station/mysterious self storage facility motif in sci Fi.
Whoa! Within two minutes of uploading? This is my chance. Eck, I maintain that there are fewer full-scale units of clone trooper specialists than we realize. Instead of many full-sized units of -for example- Clone snowtroopers, most clone snowtroopers are simply regular clone troopers with an additional block of winterized training. For most of their time they behave like normal clone infantry, however when their unit is due to arrive in winter conditions, they teach their fellow troopers about what they can expect, and probably oversee distribution of their unit's snow equipment. There probably are pure snowtrooper units, but they are fewer in number than regular units that have "experts" sprinkled among them. For most types of specialist troopers, I'd reason this is the case. If you read this, thank you for taking a look at something that has been bugging me for a bit. What do you think? Love your work, these locations in this video are some of my favorites
1:30 what if these were the same type of people Palatine recruited in canon as his Sith Eternal, people who had no families and their planets were devastated etc and that’s why they were so loyal to him for many years.
when talking about the Lusankya it might be interesting to talk about the "resting" place, like i always got the impression it was stored "bow up" like a Space Spaceshuttle on the launchpad due the picture in the Essential Chronology Book
I was no fan of Kevin J. Anderson’s handling of the Jedi Academy Trilogy, I found it uninspired and uninspired, especially when held up the crown jewels of the Thrawn / Heir to the Empire Trilogy. One fun take away though was Admiral Daala’s musings & memories that Grand Moff Tarkin was a stallion (Bantha ?) in the bedroom. Cheers 🥂 to that !
Vjun Bast Castle was my fav location on Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron PSP. Played there all the time. You could land at either side of it and fight inside.
We have only a precious few moments of existence on this world. And I have just spend 9 of those minutes watching a video about the secret locations an empire had, in a fantasy movie about space monks, that fight with magic and laser swords. A life well lived
Yea I would love to see a list of secret imperial bases and facilities, especially where did the Emperor put all the Missile Boats after the events of the TIE Fighter game? They were never mentioned or seen again, also did Isard say in book Isards Revenge that there was a bunch of hidden facilities?
Speaking of Vader's castle, their was a book I read that had Luke tracking down locations important to Vader (trying to learn more about his father). The only one I remember was some stone ruins that Luke found and then used the Force to rebuild it. I can't recall what book it was in.
Thanks Eck. Great vid, as always. I was hoping you might have mentioned Mytos, with the prison there (Star's End). Very little info on this place (and the prison at Rattak) that I'm still looking to find someone mention in detail. Hopefully you or someone appeases my itch for info on these places!
I think C'baoth was the guardian and he only told Thrawn that he killed the real one to make himself seem more imposing for besting one trusted by the Emperor. There's no way Thrawn could verify it.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Ancient Sith and their knowledge, or lack thereof about the Star Forge! Ajunta Pall alludes quite heavily to the treasure of the Ancient Sith from his era to be the Star Forge, but I have yet to see this referenced anywhere else. I don't believe anyone other than the Rakatta, Revan, and Malak had anything to do with the Star Forge, or even had any knowledge whatsoever about its existence, and yet Pall seems to state otherwise and the Star Map is located within Naga Sadow's tomb, which couldn't have been a coincidence. Continuity error? Plot thread left unresolved? #askeck
Mr Eck, id like to ask a question, not related to the video, but where do you get the ship outlines? Silhouettes? Stickers? For when you illustrate space battles, do you make, or is there some place you can find them?
Given that you're known to consider Daala, the Sun Crusher, and several related events of the Jedi Academy Trilogy to be a little on the dumb side, I was surprised to see the Maw Installation on this list.
My favourite part about this script was the stormtrooper rebellion. As well the removal of palatine. I think it would have been better than the one we got.
#askeck #AskThreepio Was the Death Star shot that was being aimed at yavin 4 a full power shot like the one used against Alderaan or a low power shot like the one used against scarif? The Arc Hammer not included? It was one of the most secret research and factory ships in star wars. It was practically always in hyperspace and its location was only known by Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine at all times. Weird to not see it on the list.
I'm still somewhat confused about that detail, were there already people living on that planet when he found it and thus they already had the capability to create the Star destroyers or did he colonize it with loyalists to him.
@@VengeanceN7 i mean, they can build things really fast in Star Wars, like a Death Star in ~3 Years till Operational state, multiple Fleets and Armys in total secret, sooo ~40 Years to build a Fleet AND a Fleetyard with foundrys is still ample time in Star Wars. Or wipe the Memorys of freighter crew and droids to bring in Stuff
Bro, this is par for the course for canon. Instead of tying things in with some continuity magic retcon like EU did, they make it harder to connect different media instead. EU sometimes even managed to tie-in non-canon 80s Marvel stuff and make it work with 90s continuity.
#AskEck what do you think was on Armourer's shoulder? Was that just decoration or was a result of the rule which means that they(especially the female members) likely cannot easily have a haircut themselves(even without having to wear the helmet) and she grew it that long so it can be maintained without taking off the helmet?
Say, what about a video on CIS attempts to take Kamino. Of course you can include the Battle of Kamino from Legends along with the defense of the Rishi Moon Station and the Canon Battle of Kamino.
Hey @eckhartsladder, I'd love to learn about the formation of the lore. Like, I always wonder "how much of this stuff does George Lucas know?" Where did most of the lore come from? How did it get to us? I am speaking in general, but also like, in the OT, does GL know who Willrow Hood is?
Dark Jedi are former members of the Jedi Order who fell to the Dark Side, but that doesn't automatically make them Sith. They have to be trained specifically by the Sith as potential Lords to be official members. The Sith are members of a specific religious order out of countless others that worship the Dark Side. They can be former Jedi, but most are found and indoctrinated by the Sith before the Jedi learn of their existence. Asajj Ventress is an example of a Dark Jedi. She was a Jedi Padawan until her master's death drove her to the Dark Side. But despite being trained by Dooku, she was never a Sith due to the restrictions of the Rule of Two that the Sith order abided to in that era. The only way she could've become a Sith was if either Dooku killed Sidious, which would've left the role of Sith apprentice available for Ventress since Dooku would've become the master, or if Dooku died and Sidious trained Ventress himself.
Their secret, contingency, and emergency bases were interesting. Palpatine had plans ready yet many would never be known since they weren't for the empire to seem dumb.

In hindsight, Disney didn't do much with Rax outside of the Aftermath books. You think he would've been a bigger antagonist Post-Endor...
he actually made it today
Would be nice to see Saw Gerrera and his partisans or even the rebellion spec force going after some of these facilities in media.
Hopefully in Andor season 2. Still tho, I doubt anyone in the fandom would be thrilled to see Saw after he caused Tech's death.
