This song was about his dad and his aunt. He just reunited with his father in the last year. His mom left him and his dad when Kells was 9. His dad left to go be a missionary in Africa. His aunt took him in and they became really close and she was like a mom to him. His aunt passed a couple yrs ago and his dad just passed a couple months ago. At the end was one of his last conversations with his dad. He said it basically explained how the universe has always been making him fight to be here.

it's so sad cuz both him and his dad was finally in the place to reunite and talk things out, but he passed just as soon as their relationship was getting better
I thought his aunt went through cancer a few years back and beat it but died more so at the beginning of covid but I cant remember the timeline anymore its all so blurred at this point

I highly suggest getting into some Machine Gun Kelly staples to kind of giving u an insight look into his life so some things make more sense. Story of the Stairs, tells the story of his mom. Gone, tells more about his dad, and also talks about his daughter. 27, is a pretty deep song too. One of my favorites. The Return, tells the story of his upbringing so it covers a lot. It’s a heavy song. Lead You On, talks about his early heroin addiction when he was younger. He has a lot of deep, lyrical shit. He’s been through a lot. Play This When I’m Gone, on the new album is also a song he wrote for his daughter a year or so back. She’s the only one who’s had it until now.

This song. It's hard to explain how it can make you feel his pain but still comfort you at the same time. It's just beautiful and his voice is so raw and honest. He connects his pain to ours so we know we're not alone.

This song made me cry the first time I heard it. Although it’s a very personal song to MGK, I feel like most people who’ve lost a loved one can relate to and appreciate the sentiments being expressed, or the overall feeling/vibe, at the very least. MGK’s live SNL performance of this track was next level heart-wrenching. Not gonna lie, I straight up bawled my eyes out while watching that performance. Same with “Play This When I’m Gone.” On the few occasions that I’ve heard either song, I find myself with a lump in my throat, trying to fight back tears. I love both songs, but can’t handle having them on heavy rotation.

Mgk in the song Death in my pocket in hotel diablo said: doctors said my dad won't be here a year from now" and his dad died exactly a year after the album dropped
He spent his early years in Egypt with his dad but when they moved back to the States when he was a young boy, his Aunt Barbara was a mother figure to him and they were really close. When she got cancer and beat it, he was thankful but it came back with a vengeance and she passed away. He was out of his dad's life and they weren't communicating for so many years until he found out he only had a year to live and that's when they reconnected and he passed away on the one year anniversary of hotel Diablo, so his dad never got to see all of his accomplishments but I'm glad they were able to reconnect before his dad passed because he needed it more than anything. Love you bro!

I lost both my Dad and Grandfather this year, Dad was a surprise and Grandfather was during COVID, so I couldn't be there for either one. This song hit hard the first time I listened to it, especially after the vibe the first half of the album set up... came out of nowhere

MGK’s letting us in his heart and I’m glad. He’s been more open about his personal life and what I really like the most is the fact that, no matter how bad it gets, he always ends up surviving, that’s what life’s about. “No matter where you are, negativity will find you. No matter who you are, you can defeat it” are the lyrics to one of his earliest songs, always reminds me he’s been fighting his whole life to be here.
Originally, I wasn't into this song on the first listen, but like, during watching this video it hit me like a truck and im now ugly crying. I had a friend who ended her own life in early June, and hearing you talk about loss....just.... ty for this video

This song hit me like a ton of brinks. I lost my dad July 2nd, 2019 to lung cancer. He was only 60 and i was 26. Three days later Hotel Diablo was released and in Death In My Pocket, Kells says “hope I’m alive to see my baby get her cap and gown cuz doctors told my dad he won’t be here a year from now”.
Now he releases Lonely, and it couldn’t be a more accurate depiction of what it’s like to lose a parent or loved one too soon. There’s not a day I don’t want to call him or see him. He’s on my mind constantly. And he was one of the few people who understood “me”. So it’s lonely as shit without him here.
And you didn’t let down. Per usual. one of my fave reactors for a reason! You always truly listen and appreciate!

I lost my Mom and Dad both during the pandemic last year and I never got to say goodbye to my mom. So this song literally is so beautiful and gut wrenching at the same time. Between Lonely and Play This When I'm Gone, Lonely is definitely the toughest to listen to. Play This When I'm Gone is relatable for a lot of people but my goodness you can hear the pain in his voice on Lonely. Especially if you've heard Gone, Story Of The Stairs and Death In My Pocket first!
I lost my dad January 24th, 2014. I found out via phone call at 4:00 in the morning. He was going through a divorce with my mom and she sold the house. So in upstate NY, I ended up losing my dad, my mom and sister moving in with her new boyfriend, and me sleeping in a winter jacket underneath 7 blankets in an unheated fishing shack. This song hits, I’ve written one letting it out as well.

In fact, in the song he says he's angry because the doctors told him his dad won't be here a year from now... then on the one year anniversary of Hotel Diablo dropping, his dad died. Chills.

I’m like in tears right now😢. When my bio mom was giving birth to me. She was drinking and smoking when I was in her stomach and when I was born I had disability’s. My dad left me and my mom when I was born. And my mom wasn’t stable to take care of me so I had to go to a bunch of group homes. I never had the care that a baby needs from his mother. So I’m really distant when talking to girls. My adoptive parents and my case worker told me my bio mom passed away by overdosing. So my bloodline parents are gone and I’ll never be able to see them. I’m dealing with so much till this day by my friends that are girls saying they love me and then just leave and it’s a coming back and leaving endless cycle.

also about his aunt who past away in 2017. He calls her his dad's sister but that is who raised him from 9YO and up. His aunt told him to talk to his dad again on her death bed and that is why they started talking again.

Lost my grandma who raised me to dementia 2 years ago and that's all I could think about listening to this she has been the only death I have ever gone through and it still really gets to be me. I could not even imagine losing both parental figures not to far apart. On top of his mom leaving him. Does he have anything to do with her at all now?
