  • It happened to Perez in 2023, it happened to me this week. Clearly we are the same. Starting to become aware of and driving sympathetically to each individual tires' situation is part of becoming a better sim racer. Sometimes your car will teach you this kindly, sometimes not.
This sim racing guide / tutorial approaches you with some new perspectives to help you understand what's happening in a non-technical way, that helps link the abilities you already have with the abilities you wish you had.

Sometimes I like to touch grass for the express purpose of kicking up dust for the ones behind.
    I believe it’s called gamesmanship

Makes sense. But why do I see tracks where grass is being used and runs over into the tarmac? Watkins Glen final corner; Le Man before Tetre Rouge; Road America multiple turns.

It just sucks that in the sim you have to memorize how far the road and curb goes when you are looking at the apex at the other side, because in real life when you dip half a tyre into the outside edge of the curb or road, you would know from the seat and you don't have to do it with rote memory.

Great demonstration! Slightly oversimplified to my taste, but communicates the general idea well. One notable omission is that all four corners also have different amount of load on them over time, as if those strong men were changing the amount of force they apply...
Try recreating this mistake in Live for Speed (LFS) and enable the forces ("F") mode to see actual forces rather than just "an arrow pulling backwards" for extra level of detail! Also very cool to see how forces look in dynamics if you end up correcting the mistake in time.

If you change the break balance and put 70% on the front, do you think you will spin ?

Really nice video Danny. It's definitely happened to me before and I've always thought it was a bit unfair such a small mistake can have such a massive penalty - but the way you explain it makes it make sense... especially Eddie Hall...
