Love it that you present the finalized art on a CRT to get that genuine way pixel art used to be presented. I'd love your take on how CRT's actually shaped the way pixel art was conceived in the first place back in the day.
@@noahtinio9411 CRT stands for cathode ray tube. In the simplest terms, it's the way TVs and computer monitors used to work before we had LCD and LED displays.
Some really interesting and unique things in this one. The marker style coloring is so refreshing an approach, given that pixel art, by its very nature, is primarily about precision. The broken line thing you're going with recently fits the idea of perspective lines really well, too, since it gives you so many more options for angles that don't look terrible!
Thanks dude, yeah lots of experimentation here! Glad the broken lines thing could work, because it was the kind of thing I had to go ALL IN on throughout the piece, and I think it was probably the best option but also dictated a lot of the style/tone. Would be interesting to see what an alternative treatment would yield also!
Daaaang. When I saw the title I was thinking that while not my cup of tea or a style I'm interested in trying yet, it was at least going to be super informative on perspective. The end coloring though really blew me away with how even in pixel art, the coloring can convey quite a different style by just how you play around with how you shape it. Your content has always been a treat in terms of information and inspiration but this was just a great surprise for me on how well getting these different elements can make something far greater than any expectation. Great work as always and thanks for the informative video~
YAY perspective! I always wanted to practice perspective but never knew how to make it look good. But now you posted a perspective video! :DDD I literally jumped when I saw that you uploaded a new video. Thanks for the videos I feel like I got a 100x better at pixel art just by watching your videos!
recently found your channel and i must say, i'm autistic and I struggle with multiple step processes -- what 'portfolio' I have is 95% sketches over 2.5 decades because I never learned how to plan. seeing and hearing you explain the steps YOU take PERSONALLY and WHY you take them is...probably the most inspiring, helpful thing i've seen in years!! and the music and editing is phenomenal...and your voice and manner of speech is so pleasant. you are so underrated, dude!! ❤
woa, I think this is your most relaxing and calming video and piece of art I saw until now, it kinda remembered me a bit of the small good part of my childhood, thank you
Your art and sense of humor inspire me each video:) glad I started following you before you got real time big time famous;) hope things are well with you outside of RUclips!
I’d love to see a mock-up of what one of your characters would look like in an early-90’s style FPS, like Doom or Wolfenstein! Your 1bit detective character would work perfectly, but maybe you could do a 3D interpretation of one of the colorful city scenes you’ve drawn your avatar in? It would be way difficult, so it’s just a fun suggestion. Love your work!
It turned out so good! I like that you didn't do solid lines, that would have been my inclination, but to see it "fade" away at the bottom and to create depth was very clever. I also love the colour palate.
I do some pixel art stuff, seeing your videos is so satisfying and inspiring, makes me want try out more simple shapes or try out what I see with your videos on the styles I used to, thanks for this, I really hope come back here and share more experiences I had thanks to you and your top notch quality content 😄
u got me nspired to trry out pixel art to take a break from "normal art(?)" and I have to say, the process of making pixel art is oddly relaxing...? much love :)
Y'know, from the pastels to the giant monkey in the background. It looks as if this could fit in most of the art pieces\game mockups with your mascot monkey character. Like, maybe the monkey's town got invaded by this giant cat creature and the monkey went to that frog inventor for help and this battle armor is the result. Don't know, it just looks like a cut scene from a game or something like that. Wonderful piece and I hope you do more like it.
Darn! I don't have my Wii anymore, will I be able to do without the specialized tool? 😂 Man, that's a super unique look! I don't think I've seen such a style done in this pixel art format before but it really works here and the style reminds me of those colouring books we'd fill in as kids. Kinda nostalgic 😁✨
"Is it possible to learn this power?" 😂 Thanks dude! It'd actually be fun to make a colouring book with pixel art linework, then do the colouring with actual markers lol
I remember for one of my art classes, I had to make an isometric drawing. I spent 4 hours on it. It was a city like this one. Making something similar or the same as the one I did but in pixel art, I feel would take half the time. Drawing can get crazy because of how much freedom you have. Meanwhile, pixel art challenges you with restrictions of canvas size, colour and shape.
This looks great - and the longer form videos are a treat - keep them in the mix! Might be first time I have a constructive critique - amidst the battle area , which is the focal point as per the sing point origin for perspective - though it would make a busy mess for clarity, would have liked to see the origin point used in background (a sun, horizon etc) to REALLY draw the point of the skyline leading to that point. Most of the building angles are soft (Under 45deg) so the force of single point is less pronounced. Keep it up, we are all fans.
PS - new vid idea. Would be remiss of you to live in Calgary and not end up including something of an old, CRT suitable WWF ring scene with the Hitman ! animated choreo. A big fan in Australia.
Thanks dude! Yeah I had considered something like that; was gonna have a sunset behind them, but with the colour count and the space it felt better to keep it clear for readability of the characters - great idea to keep in mind for this kind of thing though!
Your brain is on another level with this one. This channel should be one of the top 10 most viewed channels on RUclips (and probably will get there one day.) This content is amazing!
i love watching pixel artists use limited colour palettes cause it makes them be more creative with shading and such its like how nes games had limited ways to make soundtracks yet they made such great songs because of those limitations they had to be creative and work around them
you are really good at pixel art, i love the pieces of art you do. please could you try doing something with the pico 8 colour palatte in a future video?
I had the same no ruler thong happen about a year ago. I think I may have overcompensated, as now I have multiple floppy and solid rulers in every room of the house. I don't think there's a time I don't have a ruler. It's pretty nice.
Nice! I don’t know why, but lately I’m very much into perspective drawings. I want to practice with that myself and eventually I really want to make an equirectangular perspective drawing to turn it into a 360 panorama! In Photoshop you can paint in 3D panorama mode, maybe it’s a nice idea for you to make a 360 artwork in pixels! Just thinking. Have a nice day, greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
This is such awesome work, and has inspired me to give it a go! For future videos could you please mention how long each illustration took from start to finish? :D

Hey Brandon, how do you manage your layers? I always have problems with this and end up messing up most of the time. Is there any criteria you follow when sorting things out into layers or you just go with the flow? Great video and illustration by the way. Love it!!
Hey Brandon, I'm sort of a perspective noob so forgive me if the question is stupid, but on the buildings closest to the camera you made the windows "stretch out" as they get further, shouldn't it be the opposite? the closer to us, the bigger they are?
Just draw a horizontal line, place a point somewhere on it and draw straight lines coming out of it towards the bottom. If you're interested in learning it I'd suggest you to search for "one point perspective" guides or examples.
