Im Chinese, 3rd generation Chinese born in Singapore. I left Singapore at the age of 17 to study at the university in Australia & remained in Australia. As such, I have lost a lot of my Chinese culture. It’s wonderful to see a young lady (like Imogen) who has so much knowledge about Chinese culture & speaks Managerial fluently. It would be good if she could pass on her knowledge about Chinese culture etc to students at Cambridge. Additionally, she could impart her knowledge about English culture to the Chinese people in China. She can a professor of Chinese & English languages & cultures. Good luck & God bless you, Imogen.
2nd gen USA born Chinese, parents from HK. I’m glad our family retained our Chinese heritage and culture, and enabled us to go to Chinese school to learn the language in more depth. Hopefully Singapore which is majority Chinese will do the same, as china becomes more influential globally.
This is really great to see such an intelligent lady interested in Chinese culture. Here in Taiwan, the government is trying their best to get the local young people to forget their Chinese roots, forget about the 5000 years of unique culture! At the end of the day, there will always be smart, talented young people, regardless of nationality, understand the treasures from the culture.
@@MitchellCallander Culture needs external impact and change, and this impact and change also bring new vitality to the culture. The Cultural Revolution was more like a reflection after many years of ideological solidification, which was caused by the historical and environmental factors at that time. My view of the Cultural Revolution is both good and bad. On the contrary, Taiwan has been living in the Cultural Revolution. Taiwan's Cultural Revolution is ongoing, and some stupid Taiwanese have been using China's Cultural Revolution to comfort themselves, so that their miserable lives do not seem so bad.
She's very intelligent, life is always improving in China thanks to their government. The future for her in China is bright and i hope she can be an Chinese ambassador that can bridge all of the misunderstandings that the West hold about China.
Unique in the sense that it can make a strong comeback after a century of shame. Is this what you mean becos I thought every country is unique besides China.
Honestly getting accepted to Tsinghua and Peking university is harder to getting accepted by Harvard and MIT. I don't say that to boost the status if China. It's the fact.
I’m so impressed with your academic achievements. Congratulations to your progress in China. It’s people like you that give me hope in this chaotic world. Btw I’m pretty sure you know about Chinese culture and history then the average Chinese citizen..

@Michael-ur3on I think you are the one who needs to do that not me 😊 recheck the way your sentence was formed try to work on your grammar a bit have a nice day 。
Imogen Page-Jarrett SI-YEH-SI-YEH ! Really interesting , so I thank you with what Chinese lady met on UK train taught me last week . . I'm a Slavist btw! I wonder what sort of mnemonic system you use to remember all that?
Chinese people welcome her with open arms, well at least I absolutely do. By the way, you do not have to have studied Chinese Studies before coming to China, but learning Mandarin, the national language, would help.
Intelligent, high achieving, appealing ... she's got it all. Now i'd love to get her into a public speaking class and break her of her 'like' habit. LIke, it's, like, annoying after like, the first few times.
She’s a positive addition to Chinese society and I believe a positive contributor to society in China!!!

Yes, agree. After learning so much and have personal experience in the society itself.
Ya....as long as she doesn't tell the truth about the Chinese govt's oppression of foreigners...and it's own population.
Intelligent and youthful, with lots to offer. What a great addition indeed.

Ya, she can be a diplomatic liaison officer between the two countries. But not to be controlled by outside influence.

That's so sad Taiwan must return to the motherland China 👌💯
What are your thoughts about the cultural revolution and the destruction of anything considered ‘old’ Chinese culture or history?
