  • The Nintendo 3DS is still great even 13 years after its launch. 3DS homebrew keeps getting better and better, especially with the Pretendo Network.

    i have a 16 gigs sd card on my 3ds, i want to install more roms, and i got a switch with 128 gigs, that also needs more space, so i guess my 3ds will have overkill 128 gigs of sd..

    • @NintendoStuff3d

      I do not recommend 128gb, it will be a pain in the ass to format. Go for 64gb. 128gb is where the 3ds starts breaking unless you do some wizardry. Remember to format in fat32, and anything past 64 gb should use 64k cluster instead of the default 32k cluster.

    what do you mean waste money a 128 GB sd card cost like 20 bucks

    • @NintendoStuff3d
      @NintendoStuff3d  Месяц назад

      You don’t need 128 GB for a 3DS, and it’s more expensive; therefore, you’re wasting money.

  • @EckmanJones
    @EckmanJones Месяц назад +1

    If you follow the guide step by step, you'll be fine. A word of advice, when you decide to install Luma and go homebrew get the largest sd card/micro sd card the system will support. The older 3ds's support up to 128 gb and the New 3ds XL supports up to 256 gb you'll thank me later. I have a 2ds door stop edition waiting to be modded and refurbished so I'll be getting a 128 gb sd card for it. The SD cards at those sizes are dirt cheap so you might as well go big or go home.
    I have to refute your claim about not getting a massive SD card unless you like to waste money. Sorry man, you're wrong. On amazon right now 128 gb sd card is $19.98 and a micro sd card 256 gb is about $35. Definitely not a waste of money in the slightest. Which if you wait for a sale they will go down to half that.

    • @NintendoStuff3d
      @NintendoStuff3d  Месяц назад

      Are they brand-name SD cards? Many cheaper, lesser-known SD card brands can be unreliable, especially for larger storage capacities.

    • @SonGayku
      @SonGayku Месяц назад +3

      I have to disagree, as unless you're buying known brands like ovo and sandisk, sd cards on Amazon can be unreliable and prone to corrupting. They also tend to misreport storage size and can overwrite files you have stores on it. Plus larger as cards mean a longer load time for games and booting the console. As for sd cards larger than 128gb, it's a bad idea no matter your 3ds model as it can cause issues with playing or displaying larger games like Pokemon and displaying custom themes. Most people will not use that extra space anyways.

    • @EckmanJones
      @EckmanJones Месяц назад

      @@SonGayku nope, haven't noticed longer load times. Haven't had any issues with any of the cards I have used. Still a great idea I've put Luma on 17 3ds's and not a single problem. I have 2ds that needs some refurbishment. But no issues other than cosmetic issues. I don't count that one complete because I haven't finished refurbishing it. But it has Luma and other software on it.

    • @SonGayku
      @SonGayku Месяц назад +2

      @@EckmanJones you definitely do get longer load times, it's impossible to avoid. The most noticeable one is when booting the console, but if you've never played larger games on a small sd card you probably wouldn't notice. Although the 3ds can physically handle up to 2tb, it practically can only go up to around 512gb, or 128gb to avoid insanely long load times (they're still longer with 128gb, but 512 is noticeably worse). Also issues with 512gb+ sd cards are not guaranteed, but when they do happen the only solution is to buy another. That's why people don't recommend going over 512 (or sometimes 128 depending on who you ask). Again, unless you're pirating or have a large physical collection you want on your sd card you just don't need all that space

    • @EckmanJones
      @EckmanJones Месяц назад +1

      @@SonGayku I'd love to see a benchmark of it. A good comparison of the different classifications of sd cards (ie a1, a2,a3) Because the read write speed is different. I don't go over the recommended size.
      I know with the steam deck it's barely noticeable. Ohnoitsalex did benchmarking with comparisons of the different kinds of micro sd cards. For most games it's not noticeable. Also the high endurance of sd cards means they will last a long time in a 3ds. I understand if you have a bias. Personally I haven't noticed any of what you're claiming and it's across 17 different devices with no complaints, including my own.
      We're going to need cold hard data on this one to put it to rest, otherwise it's just anecdotal.
