Well this sin still haunts me till this date like it took 16 years to get rid of... I was like literally helpless and one time i got caught by my mom seeing an adult scene but she didn't scold me but made me understand about the stuff but still I had this sin stuck with me and 2or3years ago I was free cuz I literally cried out to God and he really set me free.. I quit 4 days ago. For good. I started having sleep paralysis, and that was the last straw. I've been feeling afflicted and restless almost constantly. Satan is attacking me like crazy rn, because I'm trying to get closer to God. Pray for me please.
Dude same, I used to never have sleep paralysis. Only after I put my faith in Christ I have experienced it, it goes away the second I pray to Jesus for help. Pray to Jesus man, and don’t hesitate to repent of any sin, don’t let that guilt and shame linger. The most practical way to help overcome this sin is to find a biblical church and gain an accountability partner, someone you can be open with and has struggled the same ways you have. Has helped me tremendously, can’t do it alone!

Confession to God is absolutely invaluable but having someone you respect to go through this with you is extremely important too

As a Christians, it's important to remember that purity isn't just about saving sex for marriage, but it's about the heart. This is why people need self discipline, because a person can be a virgin on their wedding night but still struggle with lust, pornography, masturbation, etc, despite then finally having a wife that can please them. Sexual sin creates expectations, but in the opposite way that God intended.
Very true. I know from experience. Compulsive masturbation will affect the sex life of a marriage adversely how? A person has become accustomed to getting orgasm through masturbation compulsively that he may not get orgasm from intercourse with a female or may not be able to maintain a firm erection or even get an erection period. There are many people who would rather masturbate than to have intercourse for the reason I just mentioned. Some people may not have any issues like this but there are those who do. This is one of the many reasons why I would advise against masturbation. It can be a deterrent to marriage or having a healthy relationship with the opposite gender. We already know it is a deterrent to one's spiritual relationship with Christ. No way a person can masturbate and not feel guilt afterwards. Once the climax is over then the feeling of I shouldn't have done this or I won't do it again....but it is a lust that craves more. It's never satisfied. I would admonish people to abstain from masturbation period. Masturbation will never bring true meaningful fulfillment because it falls short of the real thing: husband and wife joined together as one enjoying each other sexually emotionally spiritually. Masturbation opens the door to all sorts of sexual perversion because it allows one to use the mind to imagine or fantasize in order to "get off". Even if you are not thinking about another person sexually you thinking about the last masturbation high and you want to experience it again or something even more arousing. So either way; masturbation is not harmless. It is a doorway to a cesspool of sexual depravity. The enemy often uses masturbation to turn a person from normal sexual desire for the opposite gender. How? Person becomes fixated on his own sexual organs and his own body. He begins to admire how good he looks and sees himself as a sex machine etc. Then after while he discovers that he is attracted to other men... It happens over time without warning. Hopelessness, divorced, & never to be with anyone again. Broken, lonely, so much emotional pain it physically hurts. Many prayers but no understanding of how anything can ever get better. Many tears. I’ll keep praying for Jesus to take over.
God has acted in many ways to heal me from my own past of trauma. One of the biggest results, as I’ve walked through that pain and healed from it, is that as it’s fallen away, so too has the desire for porn and masturbation. I was falling into that sin in order to salve the pain inside. As the pain receded, I no longer felt the urge to cover that pain with porn. I pray that you find healing from your emotional wounds. The path to healing isn’t from them, it’s through them. Let God take you through the pain and show you the truth of your identity in Christ.
I struggled in this area for ~11 years of my life. Two years ago I finally got to a breaking point, so I talked to my Mom about the struggle. We talked every Sunday for accountability, but I still struggled. What helped next was applying the principle from Ephesians 4 to put off the old man, be renewed, and to put on the new man. Basically, replace old habits with new habits of holiness. As my sin always started with lusting in my mind at night, I started memorizing James 1, then reviewing it with my Mom. Whenever I was tempted, I would just start going over the scripture in my mind. Slowly, it became easier and easier to say no. I'm currently over two years clean. My Mom and I ended up memorizing all the book of James 2-3 verses a week. Anyway, scripture memory and accountability helped me, so hopefully it can help others too. Put your mind on the things of God not on lustful images.

Then the Lord gave me a dream in which I glimpsed the spiritual warfare around me. A demon pressed its foot on my genitals and pressed down. When I awoke, I was terrified, but prayed for the demon to be cast out in Jesus’s name. 67 days later, I’m still going strong with purity! I have felt my body detox, and I feel the temptations weaken. I have developed insomnia as a side effect. Depression and anger will come in waves. But PRAISE BE TO THE LORD! HE HAS DELIVERED ME! Things have been getting better and better each day. I hope this brings courage and peace to those who read it.

Brother you can do it but you have to take strong steps. First truly want to stop and ask Jesus to truly set you free, then removed everything that causes you to lust which may even mean get rid of your phone for a season or two. The battle starts in the mind you have to rebuke lustful thoughts and speak scripture over them and ask Jesus to feel your mind with his wisdom and to remove carnal thoughts. That's a daily battle and on top of these things make sure you have a daily prayer, scripture reading and worship. Don't forget to have your occasional fasting and communion as well. You can't just say it's hard but not fight back with Jesus's tools

Every day is a war. It’s been eleven days, praise the Lord my God. The first week abstaining were literally physically painful as I went through withdrawal of the flesh. One day, it was so bad, I kept crying out to Him. I nearly broke. And then I felt His Spirit upon me, and I was able to withstand the siege upon my body. The pull is still there, but manageable. Go with God and find His peace that we are so often denied. God bless.

Something very similar happened to me. But the thing is, it is reversible. You can get your purity back, and you can learn to hate the things that robbed it from you in the first place. You just have to try, and not give up.

I understand. I'm in the exact same boat. But for me too (just kinda realized this) it's probably also tied to loneliness. All my real life friends, of which I only have a few, I rarely see. I know, and am friendly with many people, including church family and blood family, but I would not count them as true kindred, as true confidants. They are friends, just not close friends; I do not share life with them beyond the superficial or the "safe," topics I know they are on or topics we may disagree about but can do so amicably. This is an intimacy I cannot experience yet as someone who is waiting until marriage. This is something I desire because I desire intimacy with my life partner. I have never had one. So yes, part of it is that chemical physical desire, but I do think I masurbate because I want sexual intimacy. To be frank, I have never desired anyone in that way, so I wasn't sure I could feel that way. Now that I do have that desire, I will have to learn what to do about it.

I then went about 1 full year without either then relapsed. It felt awful and I thought "well this is just who I am. Why fight it?" When I was in my early teens I felt dirty when I did it. It even kept me from a girl that really liked me and I liked her but I felt ashamed when her friends told this girl liked me. I always thought about her over the years when I was down but not in a sexual way but in a loving way. I was divorced at 56 and saw that girl now a lady when I was visiting the place I grew up. She had lost her husband to cancer and we have been together 15 years and my pure love for her conquered my sexual addiction.. She always thought about me when up she was down and didn’t have a very loving marriage. We have a love for each other that we never knew was possible. I have decided to take big step as in finding a support group through church looking to find those in Christ and ask for help. The Lord said not to cover our sins but confess and pray for one another. I also for the longest I thought I didn’t want to get married but the Lord remind me instead of seeking this outside marriage which is a sin why not have it in the proper context. So I have kneeled to my Father to help me find a partner and was once against having children and the Lord show me that children are a blessing. If more and more Christian’s stop having children the faster I feel our society will fall it’s already bad but children are for the glory of God. I am a woman and struggle for years I have judged and analyzed myself and by the grace of God this sin is dead I will not seek it out for comfort. Loneliness was a big part of it for me.

One thing I've learned the hard way is that an inconsistent sleep schedule will destroy your productivity. If your job requires an inhuman sleep schedule, or you’re staying up late often or skipping on sleep, you will destroy your focus and set yourself up for being blind to fatigue. Fatigue is no different than being intoxicated and *IS* far more dangerous than being under the influence of drugs. Waking up a few hours early here and there is one thing, but regularly abusing your time will have consequences. *edit* I had no idea I made those spelling/grammar errors. I was very fatigued when I typed this.

I thank the Holy Spirit for his convictions in my life and though it was a process I'm free from it. If this was taught to young people or any age in church I think people would have a much better understanding on how to deal with this and minister to others that are struggling.

I knew deep down that it was wrong, but I convinced myself it was okay until when I actually knew what it was, I had already been drawn into habits that were leading me further and further down this path. I related to so many of the things in this video that I had never heard before. I can't describe how painful (in a good way) it is to hear someone actually lay out the truth of this sin. I used to, and still do sometimes, hate myself because I had the "bad" sin, or that I had the sin only guys are supposed to have. Watching this video has given me hope, not only did you give me practical steps to avoid temptation and heal besides just "have more faith" but you also helped me self-reflect on why I have struggled with this for so long. People are confusing lust for masterbation. They are separate things one is a sin and one is not.your allowed to masterbait in a healthy way. It's absolutely natural and is apart of your anatomy. I've struggled with this for almost 3 decades. you hit the nail on the head with the expectations part. It, paired with porn/stimulating media corrupted my sexual expectations and ruined my marriage because I was getting more satisfaction with myself in less time than being with my wife and so I never wanted to be with her. I'm going to get that book because that is the core of my struggle, detoxing and changing how my mind and body handle stress/anxiety. This addiction is a chemical one, it is my fix to calm myself and so it's a routine and what my body is used to in those times. Something I recently heard from a therapist that really stuck with me is pornography and related sexual fantasies involve sex with professionals, no regular person can live up to that.

It's so much harder than it sounds to cold turkey something like this. When you're single and super lonely and it feels good and doesn't seem like it hurts anyone, it becomes easy to just go ahead and let some of it out and just feel good and be less stressed out but that guilt afterwards reminds you for sure. It's definitely difficult.

It was a lack of hope for me. Fear of never getting married and concluding m*sturbation was the best I would get. I quit thanks to God’s power but I struggle with wanting to resume the addiction.
For me, I was free for 3.5 months after surrendering my life to Jesus and no longer being lukewarm but all in for Christ. Then I slipped up and the last year since has been a battle like I'll go 2 months slip up for a few days, then go 2 weeks and slip up a day then a month and skip up again etc. I just slipped up again and really feel horrible. I think I need to completely get rid of my phone for about 6 months.

This is over spiritualized. I know countless men who are married to cold and unfeeling women who show no affection to their husbands. These men do this thing in private rather than cheat or put away their wife. I knew a coast guard cook who struggled with it for years. Very kind man, one of the most righteous men in my life. Abstinence from this action does not make you a better man. However, accepting that God’s love is enough does make you a better man. Make this the focus and the private behavior will control you less. You may not be perfect all the time, but you will be a better man.

What if you feel unworthy to be in a relationship? What if you hate yourself. I know no matter the situation there is no excuse. Sin is sin. But they suppress their emotions. And try not to express their thoughts or feelings. Like they sabotaged themselves.
I used to feel that way too. But there is no justification for wrong. It helped me to see that God's law is there to save me not because God will lose something but because we lose him. He died for us so that he wouldn't let us be separated from him. And he gave us this grace without us deserving it. And how do we respond to his unconditional love? Which in the end will benefit us by honoring our body because he died so we don't die in our sins. Will my low self-esteem betray God? After he forgives me just because I think I am unlovable? Remember God is the kind of God that wants everyone on earth to be saved. Even though you can't see your relevance, remember God still chose to save you. And when you start to see your value, you stop justifying it and let go of the sin. Remember your body is also a temple so when you hate yourself you are hating the Holy Spirit that is meant to dwell within you. Would people's love matter, those who can't save you? If masturbation is dangerous, then not masturbating is even more dangerous. This is one of those lessor-of-evils type of thing. But one example is the whole prostate health issue. If you don't masturbate (assuming you aren't married) you risk prostate cancer - I know, I've had it twice. My urologist actually wrote on the diagnosis report showing the cause as "....inadequate ejaculatory frequency".

I may be the only one in this thread to share this viewpoint, but my goal is to speak truth and spark more dialogue on this topic. Forgive some longwindedness! This had been a long struggle with me. Purity culture and a very scant sex education influenced my views. All I was taught was that masturbation was sin, but I wasn't told why, or even if that was Biblical. So I set out on a journey to see what Scripture truly had to say. I wanted God's Word to be my guide, not man's. Thus I have come to a brand-new view on this topic. Biblically, I see our sexuality as a gift from God. He has given us needs, including sexual needs. It does not make sense to me that this major need would have no outlet for some people (singles, divorced, people in bad marriages, etc.). I'll state right here that Scripture never condemns the actual act. I studied it. In fact, Leviticus matter-of-factly gives washing instructions to men who ejaculate...alone. So, as far as the physical act, there is nothing in Scripture to prohibit it. (The sin of Onan has nothing to do with masturbation, by the way. He was having sex with his dead brother's wife and failed to obey God's command to impregnate her to specifically raise up children for his brother.) That brings up the intent of the heart, which is what Jesus cares more about. One can explore one's sexuality purely, without lust. Porn does not need to be in the equation (though I think "porn" is a broad term and demands a separate discussion). Masturbation can be used as a time to pray and praise God, to thank Him for our bodies and sexuality (instead of seeing it as dirty, which was part of my struggle), to wisely learn about your unique hardwiring, and to pray for your future spouse (again, without lusting for any specific individual). Why do we make dirty what God has given us? He gave us the need to eat, to sleep, to be touched, to have fellowship...all of which can be abused if our intention is wrong. But they can also be blessings if we use them rightly. Another thing that struck me is that it makes no sense to go into marriage with no knowledge beforehand about your body, about male and female anatomy and arousal, and the differences in achieving pleasure. We study up on everything else before we try something new (a job, a hobby, a diet, a medical procedure, etc.), so why is sex the one thing that we've made hush-hush? The church, sadly, has made anything connected to sex as shameful and embarrassing, and that is so wrong. God describes sex (in marriage) as beautiful and glorious...and erotic. Has anyone ever read Song of Solomon? Very explicit sexual acts are described! Yet single Christian men and women are told to not learn about it or think about it until their wedding night. That is NOT the time to find out all that stuff. No wonder we have practically sexless Christian marriages, unsatisfied spouses, bored (and wandering) husbands, wives who get little or no pleasure and thus would rather just skip sex altogether...all because there was no learning beforehand. I stress again that the learning, the exploration, is to be done in purity, but it needs to be done. The more I learn about female anatomy and the reproductive system (which is necessary because of my health issues), the more I realize how complex it is. And most guys don't know a thing about how women's bodies work. And vice versa. Going into it blind is not wise. God gave us brains. He gave us the ability to research and attain wisdom. Why, in this very major aspect of human existence, would we ignore and villify needful knowledge? All this to say that in my humble but studied opinion, we have called evil what God calls good. We have turned a useful tool for self-exploration and knowledge of sexuality into a dirty, sinful thing that must always be connected to lust. Can I suggest that we take back what Satan has stolen? Perhaps (as I firmly believe) we are meant to bask in the gift of our bodies and our sexuality, privately if we are single, together as couples if we are married. It can be done without sin in the heart. I can attest to that. Now, if one struggles with addiction or lust, that is a sin and needs to absolutely be addressed. I don't want in any way to be misunderstood on that. My point is that if our heart is right before God, we can enjoy His gifts without shame or guilt. If He does not condemn or forbid it, why do we?

I did a lot of research into the health side of this issue and found that as long as it is NOT tied to addiction, it is very good for a person. I can attest to that personally. Extremely serious question, not just trying to "get around the issue". An assumption is being made here that fantasies or lusting is happening during the masturbation (a fair assumption, as it would be accurate in most situations), but if you abstain for long enough, no such thing is required. However, abstaining, in my experience, leads to extremely graphic dreams (with a release), and increased temptations. What about a situation where someone abstains, but upon reaching that point does it just to get rid of it without partaking in visual or mental sexual stimuli?

This is my experience a lot of the time as well. I won’t lie, I’ve done it with imagery in my head as well, but often that is not needed. Often, I just get absorbed in the feeling and no fantasy is required. I personally don’t feel like it’s a sin if I’m not pairing it with lust.
Read the Levitical Laws on this issue. It actually is indirectly addressed during the cleanliness laws. Short answer, its not lust. Lust is simply a synonym of covet. Paul directly addresses this in the NT. Wet dreams were addressed as a cleanliness law, but no sin offering was required of it. It doesn't simply address wet dreams but any seminal emission at all. Without sex because sex is addressed as a totally separate issue but still part of the cleanliness laws. Porn is a different issue as there's plenty of evidence to suggest there's problems with it. The real solution that's supposed to exist for wet dreams is finding a husband/wife and having regular sex. Paul says in the NT that the temptation he's worried about is fornication. Aka having actual sex outside of the bounds of marriage. Almost no modern Christian will agree with this stance because they've been affected by church history on this issue, despite it never being addressed as a sin anywhere in the Bible.

It doesn't seem to imply that it's only unintentional, and I noticed no sin offering was required. Obviously, most of the time masturbation is accompanied by sinful fantasies, porn, or addictive tendencies, but those are not requirements if your only intention is to get rid of the issue when it builds too much and move on. No one really even seems to consider that as a possible option in their analysis. Agreed that marriage is the intended solution, but even in marriage there can be extensive dry spells due to illness and other complications where it's kind of rude to expect your significant other just to take care of it. Not the optimal solution, but it's hard to point to what, exactly, the sin is. I'm definitely a sola scriptura Christian. It is truly easy to tell, but as a Christian, it's not easy to say because you may also feel that you have no place nor you are in a position to tell everyone to not masturbate. I can't overemphasize the value of having someone to talk to. Well after I quit masturbating, I wanted to tell two single Christian friends, in the hope that I could influence them. In fact, he's been free of it a lot longer than I. It was great to have someone with whom to talk, which we can do now. I've learned that he talks to various other friends about it as well, urging them to change their ways.

And very lost been down dark roads of heathenry and loneliness for so long bad situations with exs and just felt alone for so long I just started down this path and recently had a moment of weakness. I understand where your are coming from. I have the same issue sometimes. I have found that if i manage to avoid it completely for about 1-2 months, the urges decrease or go away. You have to draw closer to YAHWEH and prayerfully asked HIM to remove any sinful desires from you. I wish the church talked about this issue. Personally I had this addiction to masturbation when I was 11(I'm 22 now) and I got introduced to pornography when I was 13. I grew up mainly Hindu but was also raised on reading Psalms and praying to God the Catholic way. But we stilled practiced Catholicism and Hinduism. I would say that I've been a Christian since January of this year because before that I was following a demonic works based salvation which states that I need to work for my salvation by turning away from all sin in order to go to Heaven. I first started to seek God in the end of 2020. Regarding masturbation I had a hardcore addiction and I still struggle but not as much as I used to but I still do it a lot. I want to get rid of this sin because it's been ruining my relationship. It also gave me an intense fear of talking to people, so much that I've tried to avoid any possible interaction with people. I want to truly become a man of God but it is not possible if I keep falling into this sin. This sin has been stagnating me for years, for over a decade. I do however cut down a lot on my pornography consumption with the grace of God. I believe I watched porn only less than 10 times this year, but before I new Christ I would watch it until 3:30 am and for hours and I would need to go to high school during that time and wakeup at 6 am. I wish that I could get rid of this sin from my life so I could find my purpose. It's also ruining my relationship with God.
Praise God your right! And I have my wonderful parents to help keep me accountable and my brothers help as well, so I am very blessed. But even so, God has helped me get further and further from these sins.
I am gay and celibate in Christ. I don’t feel called to or comfortable with marriage with a woman, but I still feel tempted and fall into masterbation and lust. I know sex isn’t everything in marriage, but it seems like all of the married christians that say that seem to enjoy it plenty and that makes their assurance that it’s not all it’s cracked up to be fall flat. I will pray for you too. I have had many struggles in my life also. You have a tough cross to bear, but the medicine of God’s grace can help you over time. As Christ transforms our hearts and we are filled with love for God and others, we can lose some of our inclinations to sin… but some never completely go away. These can be real thorns in the side. But through this, know that God loves you… I mean he REALLY loves you. Through struggles we can draw closer to God. This is not easy at all… but persevere and know that even though your struggle might be different from that of many, that we are ALL united in the body of Christ. This is something I’ve slowly learned in my life, as I’ve often felt like I lived on a different planet from others with all the internal struggles I’ve had. Satan loves for us to have that feeling of isolation. But we are not alone. I hope you have someone in your life you can speak to about your stuggle. I think the issue many Christians are repressing themselves and are trying to do right but in reality they are human beings with needs . Masturbation is addresses in the Bible loosely and is never labeled as a sin. The argument that "lust" is required for it is also a false narrative. Lust in the NT was a synonym of covet. Paul literally says that "How should I not know lust if the law did not say thou shalt not covet?" While I am not a KJV onlyist, this is a huge thing the KJV actually gets right. Personal conviction doesn't matter. What matters is what the truth of God's word says. It doesn't matter if it's wrong to me but ok to you and vice versa, it's wrong period if it does not line up with the Word. Masturbation with or without porn is not healthy. The most practical way to help overcome this sin is to find a biblical church and gain an accountability partner, someone you can be open with and has struggled the same ways you have. I haven't had sleep paralysis in 2 days, I been sleeping with the bible next to me, and I've woken up when it usually happens, but moved and gone back to sleep. There is freedom!! I want to encourage you to confess to a brother in Christ that you are close to and ask them to hold you accountable. Confession to God is absolutely invaluable but having someone you respect to go through this with you is extremely important too

Very true. I know from experience. Compulsive masturbation will affect the sex life of a marriage adversely how? A person has become accustomed to getting orgasm through masturbation compulsively that he may not get orgasm from intercourse with a female or may not be able to maintain a firm erection or even get an erection period. There are many people who would rather masturbate than to have intercourse for the reason I just mentioned. Some people may not have any issues like this but there are those who do.
This is one of the many reasons why I would advise against masturbation. It can be a deterrent to marriage or having a healthy relationship with the opposite gender. We already know it is a deterrent to one's spiritual relationship with Christ. No way a person can masturbate and not feel guilt afterwards. Once the climax is over then the feeling of I shouldn't have done this or I won't do it again....but it is a lust that craves more. It's never satisfied. I would admonish people to abstain from masturbation period.
Masturbation will never bring true meaningful fulfillment because it falls short of the real thing: husband and wife joined together as one enjoying each other sexually emotionally spiritually. Masturbation opens the door to all sorts of sexual perversion because it allows one to use the mind to imagine or fantasize in order to "get off". Even if you are not thinking about another person sexually you thinking about the last masturbation high and you want to experience it again or something even more arousing. So either way; masturbation is not harmless. It is a doorway to a cesspool of sexual depravity.
The enemy often uses masturbation to turn a person from normal sexual desire for the opposite gender. How? Person becomes fixated on his own sexual organs and his own body. Hopelessness, divorced, & never to be with anyone again. Broken, lonely, so much emotional pain it physically hurts. Many prayers but no understanding of how anything can ever get better. Many tears. I’ll keep praying for Jesus to take over.

God has acted in many ways to heal me from my own past of trauma.
One of the biggest results, as I’ve walked through that pain and healed from it, is that as it’s fallen away, so too has the desire for porn and masturbation. I was falling into that sin in order to salve the pain inside.
As the pain receded, I no longer felt the urge to cover that pain with porn.
I pray that you find healing from your emotional wounds. The path to healing isn’t from them, it’s through them. Let God take you through the pain and show you the truth of your identity in Christ.

I struggled in this area for ~11 years of my life. Two years ago I finally got to a breaking point, so I talked to my Mom about the struggle. We talked every Sunday for accountability, but I still struggled. What helped next was applying the principle from Ephesians 4 to put off the old man, be renewed, and to put on the new man. Basically, replace old habits with new habits of holiness. As my sin always started with lusting in my mind at night, I started memorizing James 1, then reviewing it with my Mom. Whenever I was tempted, I would just start going over the scripture in my mind. Slowly, it became easier and easier to say no. I'm currently over two years clean. My Mom and I ended up memorizing all the book of James 2-3 verses a week.
Anyway, scripture memory and accountability helped me, so hopefully it can help others too. Put your mind on the things of God not on lustful images.

Brother you can do it but you have to take strong steps. First truly want to stop and ask Jesus to truly set you free, then removed everything that causes you to lust which may even mean get rid of your phone for a season or two. The battle starts in the mind you have to rebuke lustful thoughts and speak scripture over them and ask Jesus to feel your mind with his wisdom and to remove carnal thoughts. That's a daily battle and on top of these things make sure you have a daily prayer, scripture reading and worship. Don't forget to have your occasional fasting and communion as well. You can't just say it's hard but not fight back with Jesus's tools

I know, and am friendly with many people, including church family and blood family, but I would not count them as true kindred, as true confidants. They are friends, just not close friends; I do not share life with them beyond the superficial or the "safe," topics I know they are on or topics we may disagree about but can do so amicably. This is an intimacy I cannot experience yet as someone who is waiting until marriage. This is something I desire because I desire intimacy with my life partner. I have never had one. So yes, part of it is that chemical physical desire, but I do think I masurbate because I want sexual intimacy. To be frank, I have never desired anyone in that way, so I wasn't sure I could feel that way. Now that I do have that desire, I will have to learn what to do about it.

When I was in my early teens I felt dirty when I did it. It even kept me from a girl that really liked me and I liked her but I felt ashamed when her friends told this girl liked me. I was divorced at 56 and saw that girl now a lady when I was visiting the place I grew up. She had lost her husband to cancer and we have been together 15 years and my pure love for her conquered my sexual addiction.. She always thought about me when up she was down and didn’t have a very loving marriage. We have a love for each other that we never knew was possible. She says her life has been like putting her shoes on the wrong feet but finally figured it out and walks straighter and taller than she ever has with me and God. . we are both Born Again.

I have decided to take big step as in finding a support group through church looking to find those in Christ and ask for help. The Lord said not to cover our sins but confess and pray for one another. I also for the longest I thought I didn’t want to get married but the Lord remind me instead of seeking this outside marriage which is a sin why not have it in the proper context. So I have kneeled to my Father to help me find a partner and was once against having children and the Lord show me that children are a blessing. If more and more Christian’s stop having children the faster I feel our society will fall it’s already bad but children are for the glory of God. I am a woman and struggle for years I have judged and analyzed myself and by the grace of God this sin is dead I will not seek it out for comfort. Loneliness was a big part of it for me.

One thing I've learned the hard way is that an inconsistent sleep schedule will destroy your productivity. If your job requires an inhuman sleep schedule, or you’re staying up late often or skipping on sleep, you will destroy your focus and set yourself up for being blind to fatigue. I am a girl who has been struggling with mast since I was too young to know what it was. To protect me my parents never told me what it or sex was, which while I appreciate, I think it backfired. I knew deep down that it was wrong, but I convinced myself it was okay until when I actually knew what it was, I had already been drawn into habits that were leading me further and further down this path. I related to so many of the things in this video that I had never heard before.
I can't describe how painful (in a good way) it is to hear someone actually lay out the truth of this sin. I used to, and still do sometimes, hate myself because I had the "bad" sin, or that I had the sin only guys are supposed to have. Watching this video has given me hope, not only did you give me practical steps to avoid temptation and heal besides just "have more faith" but you also helped me self-reflect on why I have struggled with this for so long.

Since everything is the literal subset of all options in existence, sexual pleasure is covered by that. Mast*rbation is submitting to yourself (wants, needs, lusts, etc.)

Yeah don't listen to that maturation guy. The issue with masturbation isn't the act itself (so he's half right), it's the elements that you need to use in order to get there. This video is spot on in regards to the fact that when you find your partner, you may find your body not being able to finish and you will have to flood your mind with all that have already watched online in order to 'get there'.
I've struggled with this for almost 3 decades. you hit the nail on the head with the expectations part. It, paired with porn/stimulating media corrupted my sexual expectations and ruined my marriage because I was getting more satisfaction with myself in less time than being with my wife and so I never wanted to be with her. I'm going to get that book because that is the core of my struggle, detoxing and changing how my mind and body handle stress/anxiety. This addiction is a chemical one, it is my fix to calm myself and so it's a routine and what my body is used to in those times. Something I recently heard from a therapist that really stuck with me is pornography and related sexual fantasies involve sex with professionals, no regular person can live up to that.
I'm a bit nervous to come out and say this cuz my brother sometimes uses my account but, i am currently suffering with this pitiful addiction. I was so innocent 'til a few weeks ago and it makes me feel so guilty and dishonourable and like I am a waste of God's breath. I feel like I'm in a dark place and I please want to say to anyone that is struggling with this, you're not alone and others are struggling just like you. It's so much harder than it sounds to cold turkey something like this. When you're single and super lonely and it feels good and doesn't seem like it hurts anyone, it becomes easy to just go ahead and let some of it out and just feel good and be less stressed out but that guilt afterwards reminds you for sure. What if God is calling me to be single?
Besides the litany of things that are pointing me away from marriage and kids - short temper with interruptions, struggles making relationships from ASD, major emotional fragility, etc. - it looks like He’s blessed me with great creative writing skills, and I believe He wants me to use them for the Kingdom and focus on them in a way that having a family might inhibit.
Now I am well aware I might be wrong about where I’m being called. But my point still stands - if, like Paul, I’m called to singleness, what do I do about this call to reproduce?
It was a lack of hope for me. Fear of never getting married and concluding m*sturbation was the best I would get.
I quit thanks to God’s power but I struggle with wanting to resume the addiction.
For me, I was free for 3.5 months after surrendering my life to Jesus and no longer being lukewarm but all in for Christ. Then I slipped up and the last year since has been a battle like I'll go 2 months slip up for a few days, then go 2 weeks and slip up a day then a month and skip up again etc. I just slipped up again and really feel horrible. I think I need to completely get rid of my phone for about 6 months.

This is over spiritualized. I know countless men who are married to cold and unfeeling women who show no affection to their husbands. These men do this thing in private rather than cheat or put away their wife. I knew a coast guard cook who struggled with it for years. Very kind man, one of the most righteous men in my life. Abstinence from this action does not make you a better man. However, accepting that God’s love is enough does make you a better man. Make this the focus and the private behavior will control you less. You may not be perfect all the time, but you will be a better man.

What if you feel unworthy to be in a relationship? What if you hate yourself. I know no matter the situation there is no excuse. Sin is sin. But they suppress their emotions. And try not to express their thoughts or feelings. Like they sabotaged themselves.
I used to feel that way too. But there is no justification for wrong. It helped me to see that God's law is there to save me not because God will lose something but because we lose him. He died for us so that he wouldn't let us be separated from him. And he gave us this grace without us deserving it. And how do we respond to his unconditional love? Which in the end will benefit us by honoring our body because he died so we don't die in our sins. Will my low self-esteem betray God? After he forgives me just because I think I am unlovable? Remember God is the kind of God that wants everyone on earth to be saved. Even though you can't see your relevance, remember God still chose to save you. And when you start to see your value, you stop justifying it and let go of the sin. Remember your body is also a temple so when you hate yourself you are hating the Holy Spirit that is meant to dwell within you. Would people's love matter, those who can't save you? When the king came down and chose you.

Make sure that you understand that adultery has to do with marriage. Jesus was teaching a culture who married as young as thirteen or fourteen, as Mary and Joseph did. That is the prime of hormonal change and the beginning of trying to understand what sex is truly about. None of the scriptures that speak against sexual immorality address masturbation as you know. Idolatry, extremism, lust, and covetousness (and, of course, adultery if involving marriage) are the real problem, and masturbation has a tendency to bring all of them into play. I don't know if it is a sin, but I do know that it is dangerous.

If you don't masturbate (assuming you aren't married) you risk prostate cancer - I know, I've had it twice. My urologist actually wrote on the diagnosis report showing the cause as "....inadequate ejaculatory frequency".

I may be the only one in this thread to share this viewpoint, but my goal is to speak truth and spark more dialogue on this topic. Forgive some longwindedness!
This had been a long struggle with me. Purity culture and a very scant sex education influenced my views. All I was taught was that masturbation was sin, but I wasn't told why, or even if that was Biblical. So I set out on a journey to see what Scripture truly had to say. I wanted God's Word to be my guide, not man's. Thus I have come to a brand-new view on this topic. Biblically, I see our sexuality as a gift from God. He has given us needs, including sexual needs. It does not make sense to me that this major need would have no outlet for some people (singles, divorced, people in bad marriages, etc.). I'll state right here that Scripture never condemns the actual act. I studied it. In fact, Leviticus matter-of-factly gives washing instructions to men who ejaculate...alone. So, as far as the physical act, there is nothing in Scripture to prohibit it. (The sin of Onan has nothing to do with masturbation, by the way. He was having sex with his dead brother's wife and failed to obey God's command to impregnate her to specifically raise up children for his brother.) That brings up the intent of the heart, which is what Jesus cares more about. One can explore one's sexuality purely, without lust. Porn does not need to be in the equation (though I think "porn" is a broad term and demands a separate discussion). Masturbation can be used as a time to pray and praise God, to thank Him for our bodies and sexuality (instead of seeing it as dirty, which was part of my struggle), to wisely learn about your unique hardwiring, and to pray for your future spouse (again, without lusting for any specific individual). Why do we make dirty what God has given us? He gave us the need to eat, to sleep, to be touched, to have fellowship...all of which can be abused if our intention is wrong. But they can also be blessings if we use them rightly.
Another thing that struck me is that it makes no sense to go into marriage with no knowledge beforehand about your body, about male and female anatomy and arousal, and the differences in achieving pleasure. We study up on everything else before we try something new (a job, a hobby, a diet, a medical procedure, etc.), so why is sex the one thing that we've made hush-hush? The church, sadly, has made anything connected to sex as shameful and embarrassing, and that is so wrong. God describes sex (in marriage) as beautiful and glorious...and erotic. Has anyone ever read Song of Solomon? Very explicit sexual acts are described! Yet single Christian men and women are told to not learn about it or think about it until their wedding night. That is NOT the time to find out all that stuff. No wonder we have practically sexless Christian marriages, unsatisfied spouses, bored (and wandering) husbands, wives who get little or no pleasure and thus would rather just skip sex altogether...all because there was no learning beforehand. I stress again that the learning, the exploration, is to be done in purity, but it needs to be done. The more I learn about female anatomy and the reproductive system (which is necessary because of my health issues), the more I realize how complex it is. And most guys don't know a thing about how women's bodies work. And vice versa. Going into it blind is not wise. God gave us brains. He gave us the ability to research and attain wisdom. Why, in this very major aspect of human existence, would we ignore and villify needful knowledge?
All this to say that in my humble but studied opinion, we have called evil what God calls good. We have turned a useful tool for self-exploration and knowledge of sexuality into a dirty, sinful thing that must always be connected to lust. Can I suggest that we take back what Satan has stolen? Perhaps (as I firmly believe) we are meant to bask in the gift of our bodies and our sexuality, privately if we are single, together as couples if we are married. It can be done without sin in the heart. I can attest to that. Now, if one struggles with addiction or lust, that is a sin and needs to absolutely be addressed. I don't want in any way to be misunderstood on that. My point is that if our heart is right before God, we can enjoy His gifts without shame or guilt. If He does not condemn or forbid it, why do we?

As to masturbation weakening men's "life force", a lot of studies, made by both secular and Christian scientists and physicians, say the opposite. Frequent ejaculation actually helps stimulate sperm production and benefits men's health in other ways. I did a lot of research into the health side of this issue and found that as long as it is NOT tied to addiction, it is very good for a person. I can attest to that personally. It helps me with headaches and period pain (both of which I suffer greatly from). So the narrative that it somehow drains you of sexual ability or energy or other such teachings is nonsense. The problem comes from allowing it to rule your life, elevating personal pleasure to an idolized place, or becoming obsessed with/lusting for someone you're not married to. That is the sin.

Extremely serious question, not just trying to "get around the issue". An assumption is being made here that fantasies or lusting is happening during the masturbation (a fair assumption, as it would be accurate in most situations), but if you abstain for long enough, no such thing is required. However, abstaining, in my experience, leads to extremely graphic dreams (with a release), and increased temptations. What about a situation where someone abstains, but upon reaching that point does it just to get rid of it without partaking in visual or mental sexual stimuli?

This is my experience a lot of the time as well. I won’t lie, I’ve done it with imagery in my head as well, but often that is not needed. Often, I just get absorbed in the feeling and no fantasy is required. I personally don’t feel like it’s a sin if I’m not pairing it with lust.
Read the Levitical Laws on this issue. It actually is indirectly addressed during the cleanliness laws.
Short answer, its not lust. Lust is simply a synonym of covet. Paul directly addresses this in the NT. Wet dreams were addressed as a cleanliness law, but no sin offering was required of it. It doesn't simply address wet dreams but any seminal emission at all. Without sex because sex is addressed as a totally separate issue but still part of the cleanliness laws.
Porn is a different issue as there's plenty of evidence to suggest there's problems with it. The real solution that's supposed to exist for wet dreams is finding a husband/wife and having regular sex.
Paul says in the NT that the temptation he's worried about is fornication. Aka having actual sex outside of the bounds of marriage.
Almost no modern Christian will agree with this stance because they've been affected by church history on this issue, despite it never being addressed as a sin anywhere in the Bible.

Obviously, most of the time masturbation is accompanied by sinful fantasies, porn, or addictive tendencies, but those are not requirements if your only intention is to get rid of the issue when it builds too much and move on. No one really even seems to consider that as a possible option in their analysis.
Agreed that marriage is the intended solution, but even in marriage there can be extensive dry spells due to illness and other complications where it's kind of rude to expect your significant other just to take care of it. Not the optimal solution, but it's hard to point to what, exactly, the sin is.

Even if that was true, it's a logical fallacy called fallacy of origins. Just because a married person says this is sin, doesn't make their view irrelevant. You have to deal with the actual reasons. And if that's not good enough for you, I'm a single guy in college, never even been on a date, and I'm telling you with all certainty masturbation is a sin and you shouldn't do it.
There is no reason for this kind of complaint. It is truly easy to tell, but as a Christian, it's not easy to say because you may also feel that you have no place nor you are in a position to tell everyone to not masturbate. It's not hard, it's IMPOSSIBLE without Christ. Even Isaac struggled with this, I have watched his previous videos regarding this kind of sin.

The more you masturbate to porn the less likely you are to get pleasure from real life sex, so you’ll need porn to get off again. Your dopamine levels are way higher and more stimulated when you watch porn than even real life sex so your body gets adapted to unusually high amounts of dopamine and needs another hit that’s higher in order to get off again. Married or single, it is still a massive struggle to quit porn for those who are addicted.
I was totally blind all my life to all my sin and selfsihness especially in this area and how it made me make the worst choices. At 53 living alone in a tiny one bed apartment, lost my career because of mental illness, complete insomnia and on the verge of insanity all directly because of this ghastly sin. I was an easy sift for Satan. I am lost and going to hell litterally.

I can't overemphasize the value of having someone to talk to. Well after I quit masturbating, I wanted to tell two single Christian friends, in the hope that I could influence them. One soon moved away, and I hesitated bringing it up with the other for fear of it being awkward. Time passed, but to my surprise he told me one day that he doesn't masturbate. In fact, he's been free of it a lot longer than I. It was great to have someone with whom to talk, which we can do now. I've learned that he talks to various other friends about it as well, urging them to change their ways.
Laying beside my wife every night as she sleeps and clearly knows I wanted her is the reason I started this cycle. I got tired of being rejected by her or having to get her drunk to take advantage all that clearly lowers a man’s self esteem

I am finding my way along this path. I am new. And very lost been down dark roads of heathenry and loneliness for so long bad situations with exs and just felt alone for so long I just started down this path and recently had a moment of weakness. I have found that if i manage to avoid it completely for about 1-2 months, the urges decrease or go away. Ironically, but giving in and"releasing the tension" i find i am more easily brought down again over the next few days.

There is something you should be aware of ,either you are demon possessed ( in that case seek deliverance)or your flesh is taken hold of you.
And remember that when you are masturbating, you're not doing it alone but with a demon cuz any sexual pleasure involved two persons.

I wish the church talked about this issue. Personally I had this addiction to masturbation when I was 11(I'm 22 now) and I got introduced to pornography when I was 13. I grew up mainly Hindu but was also raised on reading Psalms and praying to God the Catholic way. But we stilled practiced Catholicism and Hinduism. I would say that I've been a Christian since January of this year because before that I was following a demonic works based salvation which states that I need to work for my salvation by turning away from all sin in order to go to Heaven. I first started to seek God in the end of 2020. Regarding masturbation I had a hardcore addiction and I still struggle but not as much as I used to but I still do it a lot. I want to get rid of this sin because it's been ruining my relationship. It also gave me an intense fear of talking to people, so much that I've tried to avoid any possible interaction with people. I want to truly become a man of God but it is not possible if I keep falling into this sin. This sin has been stagnating me for years, for over a decade. I do however cut down a lot on my pornography consumption with the grace of God. I believe I watched porn only less than 10 times this year, but before I new Christ I would watch it until 3:30 am and for hours and I would need to go to high school during that time and wakeup at 6 am. I wish that I could get rid of this sin from my life so I could find my purpose. It's also ruining my relationship with God.

I am gay and celibate in Christ. I don’t feel called to or comfortable with marriage with a woman, but I still feel tempted and fall into masterbation and lust. I know sex isn’t everything in marriage, but it seems like all of the married christians that say that seem to enjoy it plenty and that makes their assurance that it’s not all it’s cracked up to be fall flat. I feel doomed to a sexless and lonely life. I want to feel joy in Christ alone, but all of my friends are off getting married and building families. I feel left in the dust and neglected by all. I will pray for you too. I have had many struggles in my life also. You have a tough cross to bear, but the medicine of God’s grace can help you over time. As Christ transforms our hearts and we are filled with love for God and others, we can lose some of our inclinations to sin… but some never completely go away. These can be real thorns in the side. But through this, know that God loves you… I mean he REALLY loves you. Through struggles we can draw closer to God. This is not easy at all… but persevere and know that even though your struggle might be different from that of many, that we are ALL united in the body of Christ. This is something I’ve slowly learned in my life, as I’ve often felt like I lived on a different planet from others with all the internal struggles I’ve had. Satan loves for us to have that feeling of isolation. But we are not alone. I hope you have someone in your life you can speak to about your stuggle. I know it helped me when after many years I finally opened up and shared my struggles.

I think the issue many Christians are repressing themselves and are trying to do right but in reality they are human beings with needs . Also yea god wants us to get married but there’s a lot of young men that don’t want to wait until because they feel the time frame of waiting is too long, not only that women have too much power in marriage today, which scares a lot of them off from the idea. There’s morality and reality and it seems religion never respects or acknowledges reality of life and human beings. For example why would a young man wait until marriage when a girl says she want to wait two years, what about him he has needs too, he supposed to build an emotional and spiritual connection with her and completely ignore his sexual feelings like they don’t matter. It’s just not realistic, morals make sense but it needs to be realistic otherwise your just setting yourself up to fail or feel neglected/repressed

Masturbation is addresses in the Bible loosely and is never labeled as a sin. The argument that "lust" is required for it is also a false narrative. Lust in the NT was a synonym of covet. Paul literally says that "How should I not know lust if the law did not say thou shalt not covet?"
While I am not a KJV onlyist, this is a huge thing the KJV actually gets right. All future versions thought this was a mistake and tried to "correct" it. In the Greek lust and covet are the same root word.

The Bible is not shy about mentioning all kinds of perversions. It makes no mention about self pleasure. The argument can be made that it is not sinful.
That may or may not be true, but the lustful thoughts that accompany it are.
It's not mentioned by word directly but that doesn't mean it is ok. I used to say the same thing. But the Bible mentions categories of sin. Galatians 5:17-20 gives the works of the flesh: Adultery Fornication Uncleanness Lasciviousness..... at the end of the list he says "and the like" won't inherit the Kingdom of God. "And the like" means anything like or in the categories mentioned.
In addition; all four terms addressing sexual sin are broad and covers any sexual activity outside of, apart from marital sex between husband and wife. (Premarital or extramarital) Uncleanness is a broad term including all sexual vices including bestiality homosexuality pornography masturbation any and all perversions like exhibitionism; fetishism; sadomasochism; molestation; rape; voyeurism; and so on. Lasciviousness covers any form of unbridled unrestrained out of control sexual lust. We know masturbation and pornography whether together or separate are very addictive, compulsive, enslaving in nature. That's why we are having this conversation. Many of us struggle.

I'm kind between both camps at the moment. I recently Saw a video talking about this, the preacher Said that the word for "masturbation" already existed by the time of ancient egypt, so why would scripture not use the term clearly, as It does with the other kinds of sexual perversion, If It meant tô condemn It. Though, in the levitical law, It IS said that a Man that expels semen is impure, he must bathe and by sunset he Will be pure. It does not adress ejaculation as a sin, Just a thing you need to be cleaned of. Either way, there is a debate to be had
It's going to come down to personal convictions. What's wrong for me won't necessarily be wrong for someone else. People masturbate you don't need porn to do it honestly you don't and if you're married there will be times when you can't have sex with each other, post pardon or working trips etc there's more avenues porn is obviously out. Personal conviction doesn't matter. What matters is what the truth of God's word says. It doesn't matter if it's wrong to me but ok to you and vice versa, it's wrong period if it does not line up with the Word. Masturbation with or without porn is not healthy. It is sexual immorality, meaning ANY sexual activity that does not land within the context of sex between a man and a woman in marriage.

Please find this in the Levitical laws. Find it in the New Testament. This was a tradition of man, its not in the Bible.

So going back to my point, sexually immorality is ANY sexual act outside of marriage between man and woman. That includes masturbation. It is a sexual act where you're pleasing yourself. While the act itself is not specifically mentioned in the Bible, there are passages that talk about discipline and self-control of the body, especially when it comes to sexual relations.
