Three-day category 5 atmospheric river clobbers Southern California!

- Three-day atmospheric river clobbers Southern California with flash flooding, landslides, boulder falls, and mountain snow! Locations across the Los Angeles metro had big problems. Today, the threat will be from the cold upper low with heavy snow in the mountains and flash flood potential in the San Diego area. A tornado warning was issued in San Diego, yesterday.
For those not familiar with the area...the Santa Ana river is typically contained to a small, 4 foot wide, 6 inch deep trough in the center of the river floor. That was an extremely unusual amount of water flowing down the river during the storm.
Oh, really?...lol
I live near this river and it's always like this during a heavy storm. It's not that unusual
@@2Phast4RocketI too live near the river. The water height that was reached yesterday has been hit 3 times in the last 15 years. That's based on USGS data. You may not consider that to be unusual, but I do.
Now I've learnt something. 🙄
The question is, is that where they filmed the car race in the movie grease?
And also is it the river near CJs mums house in GTA San Andreas?
@@Slikx666 Lol, no, that was the LA River for both of those, I believe.
Reed, thank you for coming to California to cover our weather. We appreciate you!
Back in the 70s it was common to see that River be bank to bank, especially in the Spring. It’s a beautiful sight. Thank you for showing us.
That's a 3-slurp Rainbow 🌈
4:23 - This is the mouth of San Juan Creek. It runs past San Juan Capistrano -- the place famous for swallows -- and dumps out at Dana Point. Reed's drone shows I-5 as it curves to follow the Pacific Coast all the way to Tijuana. San Juan Creek is usually not dry, but it is running high now.
Impressed that even with this insane amount of rain LA had the LA River stayed within its concrete banks.
That's because this wasn't as bad as some El Nino's I've seen in the past. Back in the early 80's both the LA and the San Gabriel rivers slopped over their banks and onto the roads and freeways nearby.
too bad they cant hold and store that water. Hopefully some reservoirs are being filled
Acid rain. 🤢
The Los Angeles river was contained in the cement enclosure to stop flooding. Unfortunately, no thought was put into channeling any of the water to reservoirs. It all goes straight into the Pacific Ocean.
@@bspeegify unfortunately taking all the trash with it no doubt...
@@CrazyKazy With that much rain falling it no doubt scrubbed the atmosphere
The reservoirs are currently full from all the snow melt.
I've never seen flooding like this there ever...I'm from San Diego living in Missouri now...
Lol, it's always like this during a big storm. At least all the Socal beach piers are still standing. There are years that storms raged so viciously that many piers got washed away
You must be young then. Because I grew up in Cali and am 60, and I've seen several of these Pineapple expresses growing up in the Bay Area, near San Francisco.
@@MrEricmopar 56 hun but I've bn in Missouri now for last twenty yrs..
Thanks so much, Reed !!
What a beautiful part of our great country, and many prayers to all affected by this. Also, to the brave first responders and other people who have been serving around the clock.
Could this be the beginning of a scenario of a mud flood event that many are researching that occurred in ancient times? This crazy flooding has been happening all over our country and also worldwide. We all know, deep down inside, we are entering tumultuous times and basically feel it inside. But, most will just brush it aside and are afraid to talk about it.
Beautiful rainbow and sunset video. The drone footage was great too. CBS said that California has received twice as much rain as Washington this year. That’s crazy!
GAVIOTA Santa Ynez Valley Santa Barbara currently getting hammered again. Its dumping water. This isn't regular rain. Stay safe everyone
Thanks for sharing my home with me while I'm living my best life in New Mexico❤
Belíssimo Vídeo Com Lindas imagens da Natureza
Reed sempre nos ensina sobre tornados, furacões qualquer catástrofe eu sigo ele e aprendo muito.
Was that the end of a chocolate shake from In-N-Out Burger I heard?? 😂😂
I noticed that was the first place he hit after getting his rental car lol 😆
Hence the double rainbow at 7:10.
Thank you, bless you for sharing this with us so we can be alerted and praying
💯
Due to abnormal ocean heating, rainfall and floods are rapidly increasing. They have become atypically strong and destructive. And the more the ocean heats up, the more water will evaporate from its surface and, as a consequence, the number of floods, storms and hurricanes will increase.
Between 1970 and 1979, there were 260 major floods. And from 2014 to 2023 there have already been more than 1,500 (!) major floods. That's a difference of more than 6 times.
This is normal forever in California and people are starting to study it more using the vast amount of satellite data that wasn't available before. Basically this is the climate pattern that comes and goes, and it is predictable that the weather service gives us warning ahead of time
Factor in that in the 70's, the metropolitan areas were much smaller. There was not as much development, the rain could flow into farmland and other open areas. As with wildfires, as the population density increases and people move out and develop traditionally open lands, we see greater flood and fire damage. It is not so much that the flood or fire was necessarily larger, but that the economic impact and the cost of rebuilding has increased, therefore "damage has increased". Also, because of modern technology, we get near realtime data, so it seems that things happen more often. No, we are just more aware af them sooner.
@@2Phast4Rocket This.
Good ‘ol geoengineering will do that, added to the ocean heating. Don’t believe it’s ongoing rather than mere proposals, there are patents dating back to the 1930s and I am talking well beyond typical cloud seeding as they’ve done over the Sierra Nevada for probably 100 years.
Thank you Reed
Dana Point showcase. Excellent.
What a beautiful place
Thank you! 👍
Stay safe and well! 🙏
It is awesome that you were able to catch that double rainbow too! 🌈🌈🥰✌️❤️🦋🙏
Those were some absolutely marvelous scenes you captured. I can't help but notice your camerawork has only gotten progressively better as time goes on as well. 🙂
Beautiful footage
I’m sad I missed all the coverage but I suppose it gives me something to watch this weekend.
Beautiful double rainbow! Beautiful sunny day in Palm Springs today. We were spared the brunt of the storm.
Still stormy here in Hawaii.
Grew up right near Dana Point in the 1970's every winter we get storms that filled those rivers. I can remember riding a bike to school cold rain hitting my face all the way to school 7 miles hair soaked.
7:10 That's original. Nothing captures the sound of a double rainbow. Quite like a slurping straw...🥤
It’s so purely happy 😂
If you could let me know the GPS coordinates of the centre of that rainbow and an estimate of its diameter it would be appreciated Reed, awesome capture!
Mother nature doing some housekeeping.
Beautiful 🙌🕊
Great reporting , no tide data ?
Drone footage was spectacular!
Grew up in Southern California. In late 1960s family had to evacuate our home when rainfall caused canyon in San Bernardino mountains to flood. Later helped shovel mud out of homes that got hit by the flood. Good Video account of what happens when this occurs. Thumbs Up, to Reed,
That ocean sure is pretty.
That rainbow needs to be shared with FPV Angel channel 🌈
MrMBB333 would certainly play it on his channel too; he loves colourful atmospherics. It starts at 6:54 btw
Why does the sound keep cutting out? 4:20
Really liked the great drone shots❤ truly magnificent double rainbow 🌈
7:09 Bow of promises and it was double too.
Oh oooo
In 2021 British Columbia (where I live) was devastated due to several atmospheric rivers, and several pineapple express cyclone bombs that occurred together in a relatively short period of time. Before that I had never seen anything like it. It wiped out every major highway/freeway across the province, knocked out power for over 350,000 people, we lost thousands of head of livestock and it devastated crops, and it was the most expensive natural disaster in British Columbia history. Every once in a while Mother Nature comes around and kicks our ass. She likes to remind us who’s really in charge. And it’s no secret, but it’s not us.
🙏🙏
Beach footage was awesome !
Did you find the gold?
Wish some of the rain would come to North TX
Storm is moving East. We shall see.
We would GLADLY give it to you😉! Hi from San Diego👋
Give it time, Arizona is already getting hit with some flooding from this storm heading east. It probably won't be anywhere near as strong through by the time it reaches you and may only hit southern Texas.
So sad!
The trees in the river are like, “What are you humans going on about? We’re down here in the midst of the bullsh-“
6:52-7:25 That double-rainbow is spectacular, Reed! Nice filming! ❤
Thank you for all you do, Mr. Timmer!
Chances of tornados in central or Southern California
Earthquakes in Oklahoma.
A helicopter with five marines went down during the storm. They found it in Pine Valley. 😢
That stunning 🌈
God's promise to never flood the earth again.
Until a few days later 👍🏻🙄🤷♂️
No that's just light refraction it happens when light shines through falling water
Thanks Reed. Welcome to South Orange County. Love it here.
Here in San Diego county we're having rain storms too and it's been coming down pretty good
Very crazy
Liked
San Clemente Track Closure due to wash out . Halt to train service through San Clemente is indefinite following new landslide
Hey next time in dana when it’s raining Checkout the (storm drain) water fall! It flows right under 📍Bluff top trail, down to Dana point harbor dr🤙🏻
Trail head is off Amber lantern👍🏻
☀️
Thanks reed, for all that info in another part of world. As i sit inside from the Cold.what amazing footages from the drone😮..watching from Az.
Wish you guys had been able to make it up to norther Cali during last years Record Breaking atmospheric river event that lasted 12 days.
Thoughts and good vibes to everyone in SoCal having to deal with the aftermath, at least the rain is almost done. The runoff will continue thru the week unfortunately.
That drone is amazing. Wow.
the goat mr reed
What are your feelings about the potential for heavy snow in Oklahoma on Sunday?
I am guessing that California won't complain of a water shortage for a few years.
Behind the Orange Curtain!
Thanks for the updates. I’m curious how the storm drainage at Doheny State Park beach is being affected.
Stunning
IT'S A DOUBLE RAINBOW!!!!
Never underestimate the power of water. If this footage doesn't show case this, I don't know what does.
What's the over/under on couches that have reached the beach or into the ocean?
Is there a usual place where debris can be sifted by size before it hits the ocean?
be like so smart to have a plan to capture some water for the dry times...just saying....
😮
The Ocean is a person.
How about those so called wildfires in Chile?
Great double rainbow 👍
Fantastic video footage especially the double rainbow !!!!
Saw some man’s home get a mudslide go right into his home, crazy!
theres another potential atmospheric river event coming end of next week starting on the 17,18,19,20,21 and probably beyond that.
Paint ka 😱😱😱🌪️🍳 1:27
Great Drone work Reed! I hope you are enjoying your “Vacation” to our lovely state of California. Double rainbow!
🌈❤️🌈🧡🌈💛🌈💚🌈💙🌈💜🌈
Sad how such a disaster can bring out something so beautiful.
All that water NO STORAGE shame on NEWSOM!!
Maybe California should use that water instead of sewage 🤷🏿♂️
Now it's real Los Angeles River 😮
Lord protect your people 🙏🙏
A little rain won't stop the 46th Annual Wintertime Open at the original disc golf course, Oak Grove. I'll be making the 450-mile drive tmrw. If y'all could pick up some of the debris, it'd be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for the update. Dr.Timmer is the best.
Wow that is some seriously amazing footage! And the rainbows look beautifully surreal.. Thank you for sharing this with us!😮🌈🩵
😂 I'm a politician. Rest assured that Major Problems is squarely under my command... And will ruin public lives as ordered. There is no weather to be seen, return home and go to sleep 💕
A double complete rainbow!!! What does it mean 😂😂😂
Since when are rain storms categorized and named? A category 5 atmospheric river? How about calling it what it is: Storms coming in from the Pacific that bring a lot of rain. It is nothing new. There is not a city in California along the coast, or inland that did not flood when these storms came through. The dams Newsom is tearing down stopped the flooding. Well, what do you think will happen when the dams are removed?
Cyclone bombs and atmosperic rivers are made up to scare people. When people are scared, they give up their rights when falsely promised safety. Legislated safety is Marxism. Marxism is the polar opposite of freedom. California used to be about freedom. Now its about boxing people in with fear. Our freedom diminishes with each new law passed by a year around legislature. We don't get to vote for any of the laws that take more of our money and freedoms.
Anyone can look up the history of floods in California. They were common in the late 1800s thru the mid 20th century when dams began being built. When fire burned away ground cover, the state would spread seed that helped prevent land slides. Why dont they do that anymore? Because there are people that want everyone out of certain regions of the state. The entire coast is what they want. Then they will take the forests. Look at Lahaina, Maui. Climate Change is bs.
Coming soon: Beaches closed due to biohazard risk. I can only imagine what’s in all that storm runoff…🤢🤮🤔
Currently 9 million gallons of raw sewage spilled into Alamitos Bay, Long Beach. Also, the Dominguez channel and San Pedro are reporting the same. It's gross but happens with storms. Just stay clear of the water.
Lol. Just rain
Somewhere ...over the rainbow, Cali is.. floating.....away
Well I hope the American citizens in California recover from their losses. Such a bad time for them to be in need with the other 40% of californias census population able to just go someplace else.
Where next? Geoengineering. Weather warfare. Depopulation.
Double layered tinfoil hats?
@@RippieFarmer look up!
@babskaz74 solid advice. Perhaps you should take it for yourself. I don't spend all day looking down like most right wing Americans currently do.
See... there's this thing that's been ongoing for most of my life, lots of people refer to it as accelerated climate change. In order to keep my farm out of the red, I have to adapt to the changes that this shift causes for my local weather.
Water is wet piece of mind
Poor Reed- surrounded by devastation, but has to settle for shots of the not-quite-full aqueduct. Content is a tough racket. I hope you find your "water over the bridge shot".
I guess a category 5 atmospheric river sounds more severe than a category 5 storm . Storm Propaganda much ... 😂😂😂
@Brianv.otoole586 now if you can work your magic and take the parts where he has captured the ocean waves coming in and going out and put it on a loop of at least an hour. That would make an awesome sound to use to fall asleep. 😴 💤 🛌 🌊
