I'm legally blind (loss majority of my central vision) and as such use assistive technology to watch videos and to read/write text om my computer. I found this video so easy to follow and your simplistic method of instruction is so conducive to my type learning needs. I use a 2/3 cross-over iron off o the tee because I have such a difficult time lining up the ball squarely off the face of the club. I have pretty good success with the long irons and I'm looking forward to trying this new technique the next time I play golf. Thanks again. Steve, Ottawa, Canada.

Ok, I tried this yesterday and today. I was feeling so down about my swing lately and this TOTALLY CURED my swing!!!! I cant believe how much of difference this simple to implement tip changed my game. I am amazed!!!! My golf buddies were blown away at the transformation. My drives and irons were straight as an arrow and long! It took me a range session to get this down, but now that I have it I can see some great golf in my future! Thanks so much for your awesome videos!

Clay, I started using this little bump of the hips method and it's changed my distance, on my driver, and it helped me square up my irons as well. My drives are almost 300 on carry, and my 6 iron easily hitting 200. Just from this 1 move. I went from 92+, to 88, to my best score ever, 81. Thanks for changing my game for the better. RUclips is the great instructor!! Glad you're apart of it!! Thanks again for the help I needed.

Clay I want to thank you for this video, the back tilt and the hip movement have really helped me out. I am 64 years old, I started playing golf 2 years ago. I could hit a driver consistently 220 to 240 yards but always with either a small slice or a HUGE slice. After watching this video I went to the driving range and NEVER sliced a ball, I felt really weird like a fish out of water, but it just worked. I have a Garmin Approach S62 watch and yesterday whilst playing gold I never sliced my drive and I was consitantly over 240 yards and on one drive (and no it wasn't down hill) I hit my drive with a beautiful small draw 304 yards.
Thank you mate I now just have to convince my old body that it is comfortable :-)

I have been trying to fix my slice/fade for many years. I’ve watched thousands of videos and even paid a virtual swing coach to make adjustments to my swing. THIS VIDEO FIXED MY DRIVE!! I have NEVER been able to hit a draw with my driver… until I watched this video. I had already tried leaning/tilting my upper body during setup. However, the trick that fixed it all was slightly closing my hips during setup as described in the video. Immediate results! First hit with my driver was a nice little draw right down the middle!

My wife and I have just started playing - both of us are 45 - and we have been on the course (9 holes) about 20 times in the past month. We have had 5 lessons with a golf pro, but the RUclips videos and insight from Clay Ballard have really helped and have actually provided more insight than the in-person pro lessons. Not a member of Top Speed yet, but I'm a believer. I have seen videos instructing players to ensure they complete a full backswing, but this lesson operationalizes that and provides a useful tool to ensure that you get a proper turn. It helped me move from walking through the woods to hitting the fairway with my drives. It's amazing how much more fun golf can be when you stay on the fairway and aren't being eaten by mosquitoes...

A total yardage difference of 100 yards! I shall never again setup with square hips! Clay, I recall a Golf Digest article from a long time ago revealing a 42 yard gap between square and 9 degrees outside in. Your path was more pronounced, so bigger numbers, but even if it wasn't a 20 degree difference like in your example, say like in the Golf Digest example, only a 9 degree difference results in 42 yards! How much would we pay for a driver that gave us 42 stinking yards! Alot! Much gratitude for this vivid demonstration of what might be THE most unconsidered element of distance in golf instruction. (Until You!)

this is easily the best video and tip on changing your swing path. I have always had an outside-in swing, which of course does exactly what you explained, almost like bi*** slapping the ball causing giant fades or slices for me. Sometimes it does help to play a big fade or cut depending on the hole, if it is dog leg right.... but when every shot ends up fading or cutting too much, it hurts me more than it helps. would you say this tip applies to iron shots as well? i would assume so... going to try adjusting like this on the range next time

For some reason, I always thought an "outside to in" swing path (for a right-handed golfer) just meant that the ball starts to the left and that the actual curve from left to right (fade/slice) was caused by the clubface being open in relation to the swing path of the club, ie:
Club path is 7 degrees to the left, clubface is 5 degrees = ball starts left and curves back to the right (clubface is open 2 degrees relative to the swing path).
Club path is 7 degrees to the left, clubface is 9 degrees = ball starts left and curves even more to the left [hook (clubface is closed 2 degrees relative to the swing path)].
I think the suggestion that swinging "outside -> in" is causing a slice may be an incomplete assertion. An outside -> in swing, with the clubface open relative to the path of the swing, causes the big left to right slice.

Amazing video! I was carrying 270 on my drives but felt like I had more in the tank since I have a high swing speed. This video made so much sense crushed a drive 315 today by implementing this drill🎉
