Jennilyn Arceo if you have a good memory you don’t need to be good at maths. I suck at math but after a few years dealing my memory was so good I could remember phone numbers without writing them down till I got home (pre-cellphones 1999) and I could add up a 20 item drive-through order in my head. I lost this skill when I left the job.

You should hear what they call me when I am making a floor ruling after a player went all in, left their hand unprotected and it gets mucked before they get to the showdown! ;) "I am sorry, sir, but I simply can't take your word for it as to what your hand was. Please protect your hand in the future..."
Washing for a minute per hand will take a lot of time out of the game though. I'm not saying you're wrong, but there has to be a happy medium between pace and fairness of the deal.

In other situations where no department in the casino keeps their own tips, it can be a very quick transition into the poker room, and if everyone keeps their own tips in table games, then it really depends on the action at the tables and the culture of the poker players.

I just joined as a paid member. I dealt for one year at a local casino back in 2000. I just applied to a different casino as a poker dealer and need to brush up on my skills. They need dealers desperately and I should get an audition this week or next. I dealt in the pre-NL era, of course, and don't have much experience dealing NL, but I've been playing (mostly online) for all of my income for the last 16 years, so the transition won't be a problem (especially after watching your course, which I am looking forward to). I learned a slightly different way of riffle-shuffling and I'm having troubles with your way. This may be a function of the type of cards I'm using to practice. My practice cards are better than Bicycle cards, but inflexible. Another problem is definitely my shuffling surface. I don't have time to order appropriate cards (or a card matte), so I'm making due with what I have on hand. Instead of laying all three fingers of each hand flat on the cards, I learned by applying pressure with the index fingers. The cards most often butt up against each other instead of interlacing. It also doesn't help that the surface I'm using is a padded cloth overlayed onto a hard surface. The cloth bunches up a bit. It's probably not too necessary that I re-learn how to shuffle well, as the casino has shuffling machines, but it's a good skill to have of course, and the machines may malfunction.
Thanks for joining and thanks for the comment! As long as your shuffle does the job, is clean, and is professional, you should be fine. My intent is not to say that my shuffle is the only acceptable one. I just teach this one because it is easier to teach one shuffle method than 10! And yeah the cards and the surface can have a lot to do with your experience. If you do want to continue learning my method, maybe try shuffling on a mouse pad or sofa until you get a more casino-like surface. Best of luck on your audition!

What an informative series of videos. Logically ordered and easy to follow. I elected to deal poker at a stag last night. I've played texas holdem, but never seriously. I practiced your shuffle, pitch and bank maintenance videos for a couple days before the stag and ended up being mistaken for a hired dealer 'cause of it. Awesome times. I didn't make any money (all to the husband to be) but if I offer my services again and get paid, I'll give half my first income to you in exchange! Only fair.

"If the players are watching what you are doing.. You are wasting time!" As a former General Manager of a 37 table poler room, that was my mantra. Mark... You do a good job training. But, there are always 'Tricks of the Trade' that can help all of us. You were taught to do it that way. Not your fault. Your trainer did not know the best information. You sort of 'dissed' me by asking.. 'I don't know if you play poker or not'... Well... You have just met one of the most well respected trainers, dealers, tournament directors and GMs in the Biz. Retired, now. (And my fingers have slowed.. Dang-it!) I broke in in '74 in Nevada. Earned the shared title as one of the best three dealers in No. Nevada. Was in Mgmt within 2 years. Doyle Brunson was an owner of the club in CA when I was hired and became one of the most well known Tournament Directors in the country.. Was in Card Player every other issue.Owned a D-Training school in Colorado. Trained dealers in CA, WA and FL. Became the GM at a 37 tables room in Florida when they first got poker.Trained a staff of 50 dealers and 6 supervisors from scratch.Turned out some of the best. Some even went to.. WSOP A-Rotation.... When I visit the various casinos, still come up to me and say 'Thanks'. Most of what you are showing is terrific. But, Two things I noticed right away... One, lesser thing. NO NEED to square the deck with your index finger. If you 'Square' the deck properly after the previous riffle, the deck should split evenly and you can just riffle. No Need to 'Fore-Finger' the two piles. Now.. About ?????????WASHING... UGHHHHHHHHH... What a waste of time. But, Mark, it goes back to the Previous Step!!! You know where you 'WASH' the deck? As you are bringing in the discards and..and..and.. when you 'slide' the deck out of your left had into the Muck! Then, as you pick up the discards to shuffle, your Right Hand grabs some from the top.. some from below and scoops the pile up to be squared... NEVER will anyone see the last hand. If they can, you are not handling the Muck properly (Or, improperly is you consider the mess it should be. When you take in discards, they should be.. Slid into.. not placed on.. the discard pile. Every card gets... Schmooshed... into the Muck! The left had Slides the stub off... quite quickly, into the discard pile and then your right hand takes random cards from the Muck to be Schmooshed into the pile in order to pick it up to be squared. You are basically 'Washing' the deck as you bring it in... NO NEED to do a 10-15 second Wash. Total waste of time. Say, with my room, we had 20 tables going only 16 hours a day... You are WASTING 15 seconds a hand. OK. I look at the bottom line. What is THAT costing me??? 15 secs. .. at only 30 Hand/hour... That is 450 secs. or 7.5 minutes an hour...Wasted! Times 20 tables for 16 hours??? That is 2,400 minutes a DAY At 2 min/hand that is 1,200 Hands per day WASTED.. A year? 438,3000 HANDS!!! At an average $2 rake.. Your WASH is costing me..... $876,300 a year. And, that is PURE PROFIT! Your washing is costing almost a Million a year out of my pocket! . You are teaching some great techniques. But, remember a good teacher is a good student. Learn from others who can show you something new. I have not watched any of you other videos. Washing is definitely a Pet Peeve. (Oh, exception. New deck? Lots of the same card? 'Quads', etc? give the muck a short wash.. That is OK!) Keep up the good work! Here is a video of an 'A-Rotation' dealer training session prior to my opening the 37 table room. At the end, see how my left hand 'slides' the stub into the muck? It's automatic. All cards a Schmooshed as I pick up the stub. (And, no forefinger.)
Hi Larry. I know it's been 2 years since you wrote this, but RUclips flagged it as spam because you included a link and it never showed up in the comments as a result. It went to a distant and hidden section of the youtube backend that I just happened to notice today. That's awesome that you have been around the block in poker so much. It's nice to meet you on this level, and I super appreciate your interest in this video and these comments you made. Yes I agree with the squaring the deck comment. I got that feedback as soon as the video came out, and I left it alone because i don't consider it a huge deal for poker rooms to train their staff when they see things like that. As for the wash. I am in no way suggesting washing for any significant length of time every hand. This is a video meant to teach people how to do all of the things that may be required of them as a dealer. My approach here is to teach it and allow the casino they work at to guide them after that. There isn't a poker room in the world that would allow a dealer to wash for 10-15 seconds every hand for the reason you mentioned. I agree that it could be clearer in the video that this isn't done every single time, but I do think it's pretty clear. As for the mini wash I referred to, it takes roughly the same amount of time as the method you mentioned where you pick up the muck a certain way. The difference is that it includes a higher level of integrity. The mini wash makes it much harder to identify any cards accurately. Your method could result in a player seeing cards that were in the muck and knowing what someone folded. And i completely disagree that your method protects the winning hand that didn't go to showdown. Seat 5 can still see those cards the way you did it.
I used to think I knew. Now all I can say is that I have not forgotten about it, and I don't know when I will get to it. I recently moved back down to Florida where I made the first set of videos, and I am back working in the same poker room as before (Calder Casino and Race Course in Miami Gardens, Florida). On my days off, I am currently with my son. All I know is that I will get settled at some point and continue with the videos!
I am not surprised that no one has said anything to you because this is a minor detail in the grand scheme of things. It is definitely preferred to collect antes after shuffling the deck, but before cutting the deck though, and I would recommend making that small adjustment.

Thanks alot i've started playing poker with my friends (10$ entry winner takes all ) and i don't really like gambling my money over cards so i deal most of the time next time i can show off a bit :p and very nice in dept guide after 5-6 try I can do it with a kind of ease.
That answer varies a lot and depends on what your employer wants. The policy is usually different when a shuffle machine is involved too. My ideal procedure for this would be in non shuffle machine games to require a full wash every dealer change, at the start of every tournament level, when changing game types such as in a game like HORSE, and then require mini washes in all other hand. Then in shuffle machine games to only require a mini wash between every hand.
Firstly, thank you very much for these videos. They're excellent. I'm currently training to become a dealer, and at my new place of employment, one of the senior dealers is coaching me very closely. One of the things they taught me when coaching on the riffle, riffle, box, riffle, was that when you start the riffle you don't pull the two halves very far apart. He told me to just pull them apart far enough until the top half 'snaps' off the bottom half. Is that right?
Practice is the best answer here. Also, do not be discouraged if the riffle does not actually have alternating cards. While there are dealers who can literally get every card to alternate from each half, most dealers can never get the riffle to be that pure, and it is still acceptable.
If you keep practicing on that surface it will eventually become easier to do. But if you get either a proper poker table, a card mat or (how a lot of people learn) is to get a scrap piece of carpet about the size of a spread deck of cards and the surface they have sort of grips the cards so that you get an even spread
If you're referring to when he does that right after the wash, it just makes it easier to pick up the entire pile smoothly. That way you're now holding the bottom card in your hand already, instead of fumbling around trying to find the bottom card.
The reason you do it in shuffle machine games is because the mini wash also protects a player who folded from having the cards that they folded from being identified when the dealer squares up the deck. Sometimes, when there is no wash and the dealer just collects all the cards and squares them up, the players in seats 4, 5, 6, and 7 can see what those cards were.
Really the best advice I have is to be social with the people who work in poker. Talk to the poker dealers at your place, and be social with the managers in the poker room. Ask them questions about their jobs in poker, make sure to avoid write ups and have pristine attendance at your current job. Along with this, I want to be clear that it is very important to be socially aware in the casino industry. Bothering people is never going to help, so be careful :)
Perhaps you could put the deck in the hand with a thumb and use a scissor pitch with your other hand where you grab the cards between your index and middle fingers to pitch them. Just a thought.
Thanks for the question. I probably confused a few people with that one. You can use any card. I teach the top card because it is right there, easy to get a hold of since it is on the top. It has nothing to do with the shuffle. If you happen to be holding any other card, use that one instead!
Hi Mark, just starting poker dealing class so I thought I would do a little pre-studying, great video, very well paced, great explanations as you go along and much appreciated
After the cards riffle together, use your pinkies on the outsides of the deck to push the deck halves together. If you watch the videos closely while attempting this, you should be able to get it!
The feeling of blisters is normal, but it probably means that you are gripping the deck too tightly and forcing your pinkies to push harder than they have to. It may also mean that your cards are all sticky. Sometimes that can happen if you are practicing on a surface you also eat on.
Boxing the cards is different from stripping the cards, which is what you are doing in the video and calling it boxing. It may be that this is a 'regional' definition, but as far as I know, boxing the cards means taking a portion (usually around one half) out of the middle of the deck and placing it on top of the deck. I only know this because our two-deck shuffle was: riffle, riffle, box, strip, riffle (and then sometimes 'feather', if a shuffle-check was required).

First, congrats on the job! That's a really tough question to give a general answer to. It can really depend on a few factors: If the poker room allows the dealers to keep their tips and table games are not allowed to, then it can be a long wait (months for a really good employee and longer for someone who does not perform as well).
Getting into the casino business as a dealer this Friday at a free dealer training event in Philadelphia area. I will be learning how to properly deal in pit games (blackjack, craps, roulette) but not sure if it will include poker but I am willing to learn if poker is offered by the casino.
Wow that sounds interesting. Let me know how it goes. Typically it takes about 3 - 4 months combined to learn blackjack, roulette and craps! But I'm guessing it's a charity thing so probably not that serious. Let me know!
Update: Now I currently work as a table games dealer in Atlantic City. I currently deal blackjack and carnival poker games. I am currently learning craps (week 5 in a 8 week course). I finally got my feet wet as a poker dealer too in a poker room. I don’t want to say where I deal but I only dealt tournaments in AC and it was only NLH. Tbh, I enjoy dealing poker more than table games but I will stay the course in table games for now until the next big tournament poker series in town. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Exactly, it's standard practice to always face the cards towards the dealer to prevent the players from seeing the cards and possibly predicting the outcome. You normally don't have to worry about the dealer cheating but instead the player. He also got the box wrong, what he showed was a strip, not a box.
Stephen H In table games such as Blackjack, the cards face the dealer so that the players can't see them. In poker, where the house has no interest in who wins, the cards face the player to make it more difficult for the dealer to set the deck. My videos are meant for poker.
I dealt my first time last night on a rough surfaced plastic table. I just had to do a number of practice hands before the night began to get a feel for how the cards interacted with the surface. It's all just muscle memory, bro.
Sadly, it is unusual for two trainers to teach the shuffle exactly the same. The good news is that both trainers will usually be "correct." See, in the industry, as long as the integrity of the deck is maintained and surveillance can verify everything they need to verify, there does not have to be exactly one method for an aspect of dealing such as the shuffle. So the short answer is that there are many ways to shuffle that are correct, including but not limited to the way I teach.
I have never known a dealer who could deal without a thumb. I have known a dealer who had only a thumb and was missing the other 4 fingers on his pitching hand and he got the job done and then some. My best advice for you would be to do the same thing that you do in everyday life. Observe how things are normally done with a thumb and come up with your own version of it without a thumb. As long as it maintains the integrity of the deck, I am sure it is fine.
Great explanation, I've picked up learning how to deal cards professionally, I love how you teach, very clearly and straight to the point. There is one thing I'm kinda confused, that's when I split the deck in half, there always a card at the bottom of the deck left on the table. How can I adjust my fingers to just get the whole deck without leaving any cards? Thanks again for your wonderful job
That is probably because you are trying to do this on a flat surface like a dining room table. It needs to be done on a piece of felt with proper padding underneath. Try on a mousepad or a sofa if you don't have felt and padding
As for the shuffle, I know I said to let the cards fall, but yes, depending on the cards you are using, you can put a little pressure on the cards with the middle knuckle of your index fingers. That will give a bit more control.
It sounds like you are practicing on a hard surface instead of on a felt with padding underneath. If you look at the shuffle train with me video, you will see an example of what to practice on at the beginning of the video - felt with shelf liner.
Your speaking of a greek deal, but the fact is many people have used a bottom deal to cheat at cards but very few have used a greek deal to cheat at cards, just because there are ways to get around the cut card doesnt make the cut card inaffective.
I really like the way some European dealers/croupiers deal poker cards it's like a fluid one-motion machine shooting cards from the dealer to the players... Anyone know what I mean because I only ever see dealt on some Poker vids from Europe., namely Paris France.

Your tutorial is so clear and easy to follow that even total beginners like me can easily learn and follow it! I think that the shuffle really is the hardest part. I just can't get a nice stack and there are almost always a few cards that are perfectly parallel to each other so that I can't push the cards together after the shuffle! Do you perhaps have a tip of how to prevent that?
It's hard to tell from your description, but I would consider buying plastic copags online. Your problem could be the cards you are using. It is also possible that your finger positions aren't exactly the same as mine. Are you pinkies flat on the outside? Are your other fingers flat on top? Are you letting the cards fall together?

That’s why I like to protect my cards with a chip, and why I keep my cards behind the betting line, where a betting line is available.

The best way to shuffle a deck matematicathly is the first one when you shuffle all the cards on the table. It's the most important step.

The cards most often butt up against each other instead of interlacing. It also doesn't help that the surface I'm using is a padded cloth overlayed onto a hard surface. The cloth bunches up a bit.
It's probably not too necessary that I re-learn how to shuffle well, as the casino has shuffling machines, but it's a good skill to have of course, and the machines may malfunction.
Thanks for joining and thanks for the comment! As long as your shuffle does the job, is clean, and is professional, you should be fine. My intent is not to say that my shuffle is the only acceptable one. I just teach this one because it is easier to teach one shuffle method than 10! And yeah the cards and the surface can have a lot to do with your experience. If you do want to continue learning my method, maybe try shuffling on a mouse pad or sofa until you get a more casino-like surface. Best of luck on your audition!

What an informative series of videos. Logically ordered and easy to follow. I elected to deal poker at a stag last night. I've played texas holdem, but never seriously. I practiced your shuffle, pitch and bank maintenance videos for a couple days before the stag and ended up being mistaken for a hired dealer 'cause of it. Awesome times. I didn't make any money (all to the husband to be) but if I offer my services again and get paid, I'll give half my first income to you in exchange! Only fair.

visit the various casinos, still come up to me and say 'Thanks'.
Most of what you are showing is terrific. But, Two things I noticed right
away... One, lesser thing. NO NEED to square the deck with your index finger. If you 'Square' the deck properly after the previous riffle, the deck should split
evenly and you can just riffle. No Need to 'Fore-Finger' the two piles.
Now.. About ?????????WASHING... UGHHHHHHHHH... What a waste of time. But, Mark, it goes back to the Previous Step!!!
You know where you 'WASH' the deck? As you are bringing in the discards
and..and..and.. when you 'slide' the deck out of your left had into the Muck!
Then, as you pick up the discards to shuffle, your Right Hand grabs some from the top.. some from below and scoops the pile up to be squared... NEVER will anyone see the last hand. If they can, you are not handling the Muck properly
(Or, improperly is you consider the mess it should be.
When you take in discards, they should be.. Slid into.. not placed on..
the discard pile. Every card gets... Schmooshed... into the Muck! The left had
Slides the stub off... quite quickly, into the discard pile and then your right
hand takes random cards from the Muck to be Schmooshed into the pile in order to pick it up to be squared.
You are basically 'Washing' the deck as you bring it in... NO NEED to do a
10-15 second Wash. Total waste of time.
Say, with my room, we had 20 tables going only 16 hours a day... You are
WASTING 15 seconds a hand. OK. I look at the bottom line. What is THAT
costing me???
15 secs. .. at only 30 Hand/hour... That is 450 secs. or 7.5 minutes an
hour...Wasted! Times 20 tables for 16 hours??? That is 2,400 minutes a DAY At 2 min/hand that is 1,200 Hands per day WASTED.. A year? 438,3000 HANDS!!!
At an average $2 rake.. Your WASH is costing me..... $876,300 a year. And,
that is PURE PROFIT! Your washing is costing almost a Million a year
out of my pocket!

I have not watched any of you other videos. Washing is definitely a Pet
Peeve. (Oh, exception. New deck? Lots of the same card? 'Quads', etc? give the muck a short wash.. That is OK!)

Yes I agree with the squaring the deck comment. I got that feedback as soon as the video came out, and I left it alone because i don't consider it a huge deal for poker rooms to train their staff when they see things like that.
As for the wash. I am in no way suggesting washing for any significant length of time every hand. This is a video meant to teach people how to do all of the things that may be required of them as a dealer. My approach here is to teach it and allow the casino they work at to guide them after that. There isn't a poker room in the world that would allow a dealer to wash for 10-15 seconds every hand for the reason you mentioned. I agree that it could be clearer in the video that this isn't done every single time, but I do think it's pretty clear.
As for the mini wash I referred to, it takes roughly the same amount of time as the method you mentioned where you pick up the muck a certain way. The difference is that it includes a higher level of integrity. The mini wash makes it much harder to identify any cards accurately. Your method could result in a player seeing cards that were in the muck and knowing what someone folded. And i completely disagree that your method protects the winning hand that didn't go to showdown. Seat 5 can still see those cards the way you did it.

I used to think I knew. Now all I can say is that I have not forgotten about it, and I don't know when I will get to it. I recently moved back down to Florida where I made the first set of videos, and I am back working in the same poker room as before (Calder Casino and Race Course in Miami Gardens, Florida). On my days off, I am currently with my son. All I know is that I will get settled at some point and continue with the videos!
I am not surprised that no one has said anything to you because this is a minor detail in the grand scheme of things. It is definitely preferred to collect antes after shuffling the deck, but before cutting the deck though, and I would recommend making that small adjustment.

Thanks alot i've started playing poker with my friends (10$ entry winner takes all ) and i don't really like gambling my money over cards so i deal most of the time next time i can show off a bit :p and very nice in dept guide after 5-6 try I can do it with a kind of ease.
That answer varies a lot and depends on what your employer wants. The policy is usually different when a shuffle machine is involved too. My ideal procedure for this would be in non shuffle machine games to require a full wash every dealer change, at the start of every tournament level, when changing game types such as in a game like HORSE, and then require mini washes in all other hand. Then in shuffle machine games to only require a mini wash between every hand.
Firstly, thank you very much for these videos. They're excellent. I'm currently training to become a dealer, and at my new place of employment, one of the senior dealers is coaching me very closely. One of the things they taught me when coaching on the riffle, riffle, box, riffle, was that when you start the riffle you don't pull the two halves very far apart. He told me to just pull them apart far enough until the top half 'snaps' off the bottom half. Is that right?
Practice is the best answer here. Also, do not be discouraged if the riffle does not actually have alternating cards. While there are dealers who can literally get every card to alternate from each half, most dealers can never get the riffle to be that pure, and it is still acceptable.

If you keep practicing on that surface it will eventually become easier to do. But if you get either a proper poker table, a card mat or (how a lot of people learn) is to get a scrap piece of carpet about the size of a spread deck of cards and the surface they have sort of grips the cards so that you get an even spread
If you're referring to when he does that right after the wash, it just makes it easier to pick up the entire pile smoothly. That way you're now holding the bottom card in your hand already, instead of fumbling around trying to find the bottom card.

The reason you do it in shuffle machine games is because the mini wash also protects a player who folded from having the cards that they folded from being identified when the dealer squares up the deck. Sometimes, when there is no wash and the dealer just collects all the cards and squares them up, the players in seats 4, 5, 6, and 7 can see what those cards were.

Really the best advice I have is to be social with the people who work in poker. Talk to the poker dealers at your place, and be social with the managers in the poker room. Ask them questions about their jobs in poker, make sure to avoid write ups and have pristine attendance at your current job.
Along with this, I want to be clear that it is very important to be socially aware in the casino industry. Bothering people is never going to help, so be careful :)
Perhaps you could put the deck in the hand with a thumb and use a scissor pitch with your other hand where you grab the cards between your index and middle fingers to pitch them. Just a thought.
Thanks for the question. I probably confused a few people with that one. You can use any card. I teach the top card because it is right there, easy to get a hold of since it is on the top. It has nothing to do with the shuffle. If you happen to be holding any other card, use that one instead!

After the cards riffle together, use your pinkies on the outsides of the deck to push the deck halves together. If you watch the videos closely while attempting this, you should be able to get it!

The feeling of blisters is normal, but it probably means that you are gripping the deck too tightly and forcing your pinkies to push harder than they have to. It may also mean that your cards are all sticky. Sometimes that can happen if you are practicing on a surface you also eat on.
You are why these videos were made.
Boxing the cards is different from stripping the cards, which is what you are doing in the video and calling it boxing. It may be that this is a 'regional' definition, but as far as I know, boxing the cards means taking a portion (usually around one half) out of the middle of the deck and placing it on top of the deck. I only know this because our two-deck shuffle was: riffle, riffle, box, strip, riffle (and then sometimes 'feather', if a shuffle-check was required).
terminology gets mixed around over time across the many casinos in the world. You aren't wrong and neither am I.

Super normal. It takes dealers about 3-6 months to get their speed up after the get hired. Never focus on speed and speed will come to you.

That's a really tough question to give a general answer to. It can really depend on a few factors:
If the poker room allows the dealers to keep their tips and table games are not allowed to, then it can be a long wait (months for a really good employee and longer for someone who does not perform as well).

Getting into the casino business as a dealer this Friday at a free dealer training event in Philadelphia area. I will be learning how to properly deal in pit games (blackjack, craps, roulette) but not sure if it will include poker but I am willing to learn if poker is offered by the casino.
Wow that sounds interesting. Let me know how it goes. Typically it takes about 3 - 4 months combined to learn blackjack, roulette and craps! But I'm guessing it's a charity thing so probably not that serious. Let me know!
Update: Now I currently work as a table games dealer in Atlantic City. I currently deal blackjack and carnival poker games. I am currently learning craps (week 5 in a 8 week course). I finally got my feet wet as a poker dealer too in a poker room. I don’t want to say where I deal but I only dealt tournaments in AC and it was only NLH. Tbh, I enjoy dealing poker more than table games but I will stay the course in table games for now until the next big tournament poker series in town. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Exactly, it's standard practice to always face the cards towards the dealer to prevent the players from seeing the cards and possibly predicting the outcome. You normally don't have to worry about the dealer cheating but instead the player. He also got the box wrong, what he showed was a strip, not a box.
Stephen H In table games such as Blackjack, the cards face the dealer so that the players can't see them. In poker, where the house has no interest in who wins, the cards face the player to make it more difficult for the dealer to set the deck. My videos are meant for poker.

I dealt my first time last night on a rough surfaced plastic table. I just had to do a number of practice hands before the night began to get a feel for how the cards interacted with the surface. It's all just muscle memory, bro.
Sadly, it is unusual for two trainers to teach the shuffle exactly the same. The good news is that both trainers will usually be "correct." See, in the industry, as long as the integrity of the deck is maintained and surveillance can verify everything they need to verify, there does not have to be exactly one method for an aspect of dealing such as the shuffle. So the short answer is that there are many ways to shuffle that are correct, including but not limited to the way I teach.

I have never known a dealer who could deal without a thumb. I have known a dealer who had only a thumb and was missing the other 4 fingers on his pitching hand and he got the job done and then some. My best advice for you would be to do the same thing that you do in everyday life. Observe how things are normally done with a thumb and come up with your own version of it without a thumb. As long as it maintains the integrity of the deck, I am sure it is fine.

There is one thing I'm kinda confused, that's when I split the deck in half, there always a card at the bottom of the deck left on the table. How can I adjust my fingers to just get the whole deck without leaving any cards?

That is probably because you are trying to do this on a flat surface like a dining room table. It needs to be done on a piece of felt with proper padding underneath. Try on a mousepad or a sofa if you don't have felt and padding

As for the shuffle, I know I said to let the cards fall, but yes, depending on the cards you are using, you can put a little pressure on the cards with the middle knuckle of your index fingers. That will give a bit more control.

It sounds like you are practicing on a hard surface instead of on a felt with padding underneath. If you look at the shuffle train with me video, you will see an example of what to practice on at the beginning of the video - felt with shelf liner.

Your speaking of a greek deal, but the fact is many people have used a bottom deal to cheat at cards but very few have used a greek deal to cheat at cards, just because there are ways to get around the cut card doesnt make the cut card inaffective.
I really like the way some European dealers/croupiers deal poker cards it's like a fluid one-motion machine shooting cards from the dealer to the players... Anyone know what I mean because I only ever see dealt on some Poker vids from Europe., namely Paris France.

I think that the shuffle really is the hardest part. I just can't get a nice stack and there are almost always a few cards that are perfectly parallel to each other so that I can't push the cards together after the shuffle! Do you perhaps have a tip of how to prevent that?
It's hard to tell from your description, but I would consider buying plastic copags online. Your problem could be the cards you are using. It is also possible that your finger positions aren't exactly the same as mine. Are you pinkies flat on the outside? Are your other fingers flat on top? Are you letting the cards fall together?
