      Me too man - it didn't play that well, but it made me feel so uneasy/desperate that I played it and replayed it. The disgusting design Mercury put into the game was awesome.

      I had a lot of fun playing this game and I wish there were more games willing to take the "M" seriously. The story was great and I did enjoy the characters, to include their interactions like when you swap into a character and they comment "Ross is that you???". I liked the fact that you play as "Ross" a disembodied member of the team so that swapping felt more like his choice not yours. The only thing I started to dislike was the repeating of enemies where you would fight the same type of boss 3 times in a row. otherwise the body horror is one of the best I have ever seen and it made me feel like the fate of the characters was really on the line. Entering further into the Demon hell scape was really really fun.

    I really liked Jericho. Not only for the story, but the fights actually make you feel like you're on a full scale war against overwhelming evil. Enemies are insane bullet sponges until you learn how to kill them effectively. Your squad is shooting indiscriminately and going through them ineffectively to make room for you to shine, because otherwise with 5 people and all their firepower battles would be trivial.

    say what you want about me, but I love this game. I know gameplaywise it isn't all that great, but when I got it in 2008 (I was 14 btw) it blew my mind with its story, designs, concepts, spectacle. I dunno, it just felt awesome from the moment I saw the first monster and started shooting at it, to the epic conclusion, it was quite a journey, felt really amazing going back in time up to Sumer (I didn't even know what it was back then). And to this day I enjoy replaying it from time to time.

    I actually really enjoyed this one but will admit that the team AI is pretty bad. The combat isn't all that engaging either but the scenery and story keep me glued, it's pretty unique for a videogame. I used Delgado mostly, doing a combination of his minigun and the fire dragon. I also used Abigail a lot as her sniper ghost shot (or whatever it's called) is pretty useful, and I would use her rocket-launcher shot Quake-style, aiming at the ground and letting the blast damage kill enemies. When you get into a groove and learn how to really mow down enemies it's fun, but I'd say the first playthrough for anyone will probably be pretty rough.

  • @CptCaretaker

    Cool how Clive Barker actually wrote the story for this unlike someone whose name is on Ubisoftgames...

    • @aedanclarke
      @aedanclarke 9 лет назад +61

      “The“Caretaker Well, considering Tom Clancy is dead as fuck, it's hard for him to write anything.
      With that said, Tom Clancy's name with his games was more to do with his producer position and ownership of those respective franchises. Just because he didn't write every game doesn't mean his name should've been discarded. And now that he's dead, it's a sign of respect to a man whose franchises have brought Ubisoft a good amount of money.

    • @aedanclarke
      @aedanclarke 9 лет назад +15

      “The“Caretaker Aha, don't worry about it, mate. A bit of innocent ignorance, which everyone's guilty of. And now you know why Tom Clancy's name is attached, so that's one more thing you know now that you didn't 24 hours ago. As they say, you learn something knew every day. :P

    • @TheBrainPolice
      @TheBrainPolice 9 лет назад +16

      +Aedan Clarke Tom Clancy didn't have shit to do with either the Ghost Recon or Splinter Cell franchises. Only Rainbow Six was based on his original material, and his involvement in any game development has been nearly nonexistent besides the use of his name. So if anything, the use of his name was to only to market these franchises to those already familiar with his moniker and brand of espionage/military fiction, and to introduce a new gamer audience to him. Not to give him credit for contributing much of anything. And Clancy was alive when 95% of games in these 3 franchises were released and still contributed nothing besides the lone Rainbow Six novel from 1998. So yeah, it's pretty cool that Clive Barker actually wrote the story to a game instead of lending his name for promotional purposes and getting a check in the mail for contributing nothing to the development.

      Reeo Thec the artstyle is instanty recognizable, especially the Monsters. It's the closest thing to hellraiser in terms of artstyle. Story is nothing special and is nothing that the game itself emphasizes, it's more about style than substance.

    • @DavidToast
      @DavidToast 6 лет назад +7

      Well how, easily. I don't think gameplay is bad at all myself.
      Having different characters instead of just different weapons is neat.
      Environments and enemy design is just amazing. There is no other game with this style. (Well soon enough there will be Agony which I'm looking forward to for this very same reason.)
      It simply feels lot like Serious Sam/Painkiller type of shooter just with less enemies so you progress trough each level more swiftly. Which is perfect because shooting itself does not feel quite as fun as in those games.
      I was actually really suprised when I learned that this game is so hated, when it came out I played trough it several times as well. Pretty much purely to go into that world again.

    A guilty pleasure for me I will admit. Part of the reason are the characters, the Jericho Squad, especially when you take the time to read some of their backstories once you unlock them. The story is really interesting, but they never gave it a proper resolution and it could have been awesome if they made a sequel, while improving the gameplay which was one of the biggest complaint people had with the game.

    I showed my friend Hellraiser, and it blew him away a couple of weeks back. He then sent me a steam code for this game. I had never heard of it. I loved it. Clive Barker's style oozes from every corner of this game. I don't think the reviewer knew how the game was supposed to be played. There are serious flaws, but I feel that is how most forgotten games from a decade ago are. This game is amazing. I never felt it was a horror game, or it was meant to be. I think it was supposed to be a Clive Barker game. Just like Hellraiser and Nightbreed, they have a style that is all their own, and if you go in expecting horror, you are going to have a bad time.

    Got it for 5 euro and honestly I enjoyed it... Once you learn how to place your team when facing exploding enemies you don't have to revive your team very often you can let the priest do that,same vs the bosses.... Which is why you may enjoy it it more on a second play, already knowing how to place everyone. It's flawed but I still think it's not as bad as people say. If you love the art style and can deal with some shitty qtes, it's worth a shot for a small amount

    I agree with you in aspects of the difficulty, but I am disappointed that you didn't mention that in spite of the game being released in '07, it is AT LEAST 2 or so YEARS ahead of its age in terms of visuals. Clive Barker is my favorite horror writer and I'm not surprised that video games made over a novel or short story of his doesn't work out. Most about a Clive Barker experience is what goes on inside your head and it just can't be translated onto a screen, in part because it is so deeply dependent on the individual's personal experience. How do you portray a million individual experiences within a game?
    Another thing to mention is that games depend to a large degree upon activity, action on part of the player while Barker's books make room and actually expects the reader to pause and let each scenery or dialogue "sink in" and take possession of that inner experience of scenery that I refer to above.
    The transition to movie worked with Hell Raiser because they were story-tellings. The movies were marvelous on their own terms yet they were not the real thing, not "really" Clive Barker but portrayals and indications of what you might find if you read the author's books and short stories.
    This is just my personal opinion, of course, but I think in the video game example reviewed here it is quite apparent that I'm not completely wrong. That being said, I also realize that a lot of graphical technique and skill has come under way since this game was made, and who knows, maybe something more representative of a real Clive Barker story is possible in the future.
    Just don't forget that Clive Barker is all about physical up-close biology in deepest detail along with smell and sound that comes with it. I have to wonder if it will ever be possible to translate that into a video game.

    I wonder how hard it would be to make/find a combat rebalance mod for this game, since that seems to be the big issue. With a little tweaking -- and, perhaps, doubled health bars -- the game could probably be something more fondly remembered.
    I was SUPER pumped for this game before it came out, but as soon as I saw reviews I put off buying it until I found it cheap -- like, three dollars cheap. I was playing on easy, and even at that level the bullet sponge nature of the enemies was just aggravating in the extreme, and I made it maybe an hour and a half into the game before giving up.

    The underpowered nature of the weapons makes sense once you realize there's a cheat code to do decent damage, and that cheat codes were a paid service.
    Most of Jericho's faults, like characters being made of wet papers, have a corresponding cheat code too.
    If you find a save with codes unlocked, revisit the game. It's a different beast then.

    This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the whole game, great potential with a story that could of worked really well considering the writer that wasn't fully realised. There were rumours Barker had intended to make more then one game and I'd hoped he would get the chance, largely to have it improved simply for the sake of his name being attached.

    Download ammo is what you get when you have a nerdy witch, think of them as premade scrolls only in digital format.
    Also I didn't find the characters underwhelming, I found them to be fairly powerful and shotguns were integrated into other's weapons.
    But when facing hordes of the undead... Would you really take anything else than a machine gun? You know, the type of weapon that can just keep spraying death against things that do not seem to want to die?
    Also how the hell is the sniper under powered? If you actually guide it properly you can kill several enemies with one shot, just don't shoot the immortal undead in their chests.

    I really liked this game, i played it on the hard difficulty, and i found it kind of challenging. Lots of people say that the classes should have been more powerful, but as for me - they are balanced, and the fact that you can't go around and just shoot the crap out of everyone adds to the realism in this fantasy game.

    I had this game back in my PS2 days. I liked the game......it puts me in mine of "Gears Or War", "F.E.A.R", "& The Darkness".....i read that the reviews on this game wasn't good but you have to give a chance.....the story is bland but the game mechnics was excellent. I like the fact you can switch characters at any time. How i do it is depends on the envoirnment, i would use "Abigail" to shoot long range enemies. I would use "Billy or Delgado" for boss fights. Overall its a interesting game to play.....its not perfect but if you like horror shooters check this one out ! 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

    When i first played the game, age 8, it was something i adored so much simply because i felt a demonic halo vibe and some actually scary moments. Whenever i wanted a more harder game i played this and some parts of the game were just abusive and i loved it for that, the final boss fight was an utter pisstake tho simply because there's 2 dps characters left and 2 support and well support are basically useless and the AI mostly just targeted the player so your dps character were down pretty quickly. i loved the Gothic style the game had for the main characters and the actual twisted and more stylish monsters made it feel horror styled.
    Maybe after about 4 years since the last time i played it i'll feel differently but i'd still love the nostalgia it brought me. Anyone else watch the intro cinematic before the menu and think that was how the game was gonna start with Abigail black (sniper) kicking the bucket?
