6 to 8 months? I wish I had been so lucky. After 30+ years in retail, and during a 6 year period doing Price Change at Home Depot where I was required to walk all over the store, climb ladders and get down on the floor, I developed Trochanteric Bursitis in my right hip. I dealt with the pain my 5th year at Home Depot until I couldn't get up off the floor after doing lower shelf price changes. I was on my knees in hardware crying like a 2 year old because of the intense pain that I could only describe as being jabbed with a hot poker between my hip and leg joint. I had never heard of bursitis before going to the ER later that day. It's manageable to some degree. I don't baby my hip or push it beyond it's limits. And my right hip can predict rain 5 days out lol. Rain and cold weather seem to make it worse, but ibuprofen or naproxen keeps me moving on the days that it acts up. Staying well hydrated helps too. I'm almost 51, diagnosed in 2015, and still going strong.
I fell out of one of my tucks at work and onto the metal steps of another truck three years ago. I have been in so much pain and find it difficult to sit and lay comfortably. I just recently started physical therapy and I am hoping that will take care of it.
I have greater trochantric bursaes on both hips, cant lie on my sides also can't have anyone touching the side, I'm getting more pain now in work mainly it nearly has me in tears, having steroid injection tomorrow(dreading it as I know they'll have to touch my leg
Wow this is the first real information I've gotten about my horrific left hip. 6-8 months? I wish, still suffering 6-8 YEARS. I love crossing my left leg when sitting and will stop this immediately. I am convinced my weak abdominals and lower back pain resulted in this PAIN. I will search for exercises to relieve the pain and strengthen the muscles that support the hip. I found the one with the tennis ball to place on my hip area and rotate against a wall and that stretching is futile. I've had a lumbar epidural which did nothing. Then a shot into my hip which was wonderful but only lasted about 45 days. I know where it originated, for years sleeping on my left side on a small sofa which restricted my movements. Now I'm paying the price. Why hasn't my rheumatologist or pain doctor ever mentioned that I have BURSITIS which sounds much easier to resolve instead of a hip replacement! Never once has any doctors done these simple tests.
Been dealing with it for 15 years. My treatment started out with anti-inflammatory medication, then physical therapy, then steroid shots. I've had two shots, the first one lasted about 2 1/2 months and the second one lasted about 6 weeks. I've tried all the stretching and strengthing exercises. Still dealing with the pain after 15 years. It limits what activities I can do. I can't imagine the freedom I would feel if the pain finally went away. UPDATE AS OF SEPTEMBER 2023: Ortho doctor said I need a full hip replacement. Said it would fix the pain permanently. I have been researching hip replacement surgery and talking with people who had it done. Will seriously consider since I am now having pain in both hips.
This scares me so much. I've had the pain for 6 months now, and got a steroid shot which helped for 2 months, but the pain is back now. I've been doing all the physio exercises assigned to me, am fairly fit and active, maintain a healthy lifestyle. But it's just not improving.
Ugh. Pretty much echoing your comment. Mine started 5 months ago (never ever had this before) 33, very fit and played sports my whole life. Went 3 months of PT/trying to return to working out. Way too much pain. Finally did an injection. 6 weeks later the pain is creeping back. I refuse to sit out from working out or activities I love again so I don't know what I'm gonna do other than constant ice, heat, recovery tools and massages and hopefully another steroid injection when my sports ortho allows it.
JR Jones; I feel ya man. Mine came about after a hip replacement. I used to work as a physical therapy aide. The best piece of equipment for bursitis is something called a TENS unit. There’s numerous videos on here about how to use it. It’s transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. It’s been a game changer for me! It breaks up the pain signals and massages the area. It feels tingly. You can use it up to 4-5 times a day. I work out extensively, so my bursitis flares up regularly. Ice and tens have been the only thing that has helped me. Also, I don’t eat inflammatory foods like sugar, dairy, meat and trans fats. My stomach cannot tolerate NSAIDS anymore either. So I had to go at it from another angle. Hope this helps and that you find relief.
@@jackiee9014 I totally understand the first thing they will say is your young and fit but with my experience push for a MRI so they can take your issue more seriously and just running alone can cause a flare up as well as walking up and down stairs, injections are good only for so long bc in the long run what they don’t tell you is the shots actually makes it worse especially if you’ve been getting them for years like myself, I’ll update my MRI results when I get them and don’t trust the X-ray bc mine never showed anything but a messed up pelvis 😂instead of the actual hip 😅

I had an Xray done about a year ago which confirmed Trochanteric Bursitis. I took the steroid shot and it felt it better for a while, but it recently came back. As an active middle-aged man, I'd say it's likely from certain activities. This time however I have a pretty big rash. Is this common and is it likely due to an infection? I'd be interested in knowing how this happens.
I had an injection, hurt so badly that kinda screamed , felt like it hit a nerve.. pain that evening anfor the next 30 -40 hpurs was excruciating. Got mine from taking 2 flights with a 3 hr layover. Too much amashed in seating. Got some steroids, hoping to find some excercises.
How r u now ? Hope u recovered
Great explanation. I’m suffering from it. NSAIDs helped but not much. May be exercises help. Don’t want steroid shot’s.
I had an injection, hurt so badly that kinda screamed , felt like it hit a nerve.. pain that evening anfor the next 30 -40 hpurs was excruciating. Then subsided and had improved 70 % for abput 3 weeks.. coming back , now after about 2 or 3 m9nths back to square one.. sleep very interupted.. work not easy as sitting is almost impossible and difficult to exercise as what can ypu do which doesnt involve your hip!???
Did you have your injection done with ultrasound guidance? Surely they couldn't know where to inject if they went in blind?
👍👍
Question: when people have trochanteric bursitis, or perhaps any bursitis, is it common to find another place with an inflammation? Thank you
@Holly Smith watch Dr Eric Berg on inflammation. He has very nice tips.
What doctor specialty could help in diagnosing if there's an underlying (kidney?) infection causing the trochanteric bursitis, especially if on the left-side?
Are these related? I'd love to know.
U have just had a left kidney procedure to repair a chronuc issue, and also have this hip pain. Why do u think these might be related ?
Mine was caused by sitting too many hours one day.
Thé cause of mine was hip abduction exercises i put a disc of weight of 10kg on my hip and performed thé exercises😭
Tell me more about this. What weights? How did you wear them? What exercises did you do?
