Most bluebird agencies recommend having the boxes face south. The prevailing winds in the USA are from the southwest. That would have rotating boxes mostly facing northeast.
I think you need to drill a hole in the pipe just above the lower board and insert a self tapping screw to prevent someone from taking it. It would be harder to hide if the pipe was fixed to the house and it would still rotate with no problem. That's just my opinion otherwise it looks good

I don't have Bluebirds and I'm afraid if i put these houses up it would only attract squirrels and larger birds like bluejays starlings etc.. suggestions on attracting Blues? Thank you , Joe

Interesting Idea. We really don't have problem of people stealing them luckily.
Thanks for the review i mostly make Peterson boxes that vary a bit but these are good ideas.
Yes there are lots of ways to make a bird house, this one was just a little different angle but very close to Peterson style.

Could you use a 1x6 for same bird house just smaller at top?
You want to make sure you have good overhang on the roof so you have a good drip edge.
I prefer using 100% natural materials with no chemicals.
All the synthetic stuff is on the outside protecting the main box from weathering...It's a great system..50 years???!!! 👏 Fantastic!!
Where can you purchase these boxes?
I need to check in with my buddy Tom from Michigan who made these and see if he is still making them.

@@hikertrash2956 Also the height of nest mount: Bluebirds: 4-6 feet, sparrows more than 6 ft
Eliminate sparrows, put box in open space.
What about sparrows?
Gotta watch placement as yes sparrows can come in and be a factor
